[Q] Odin can't read PIT - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Phone Stats
Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710)
Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Stable)
Last ROM update flash was months ago, no issues
TWRP latest
Can not get into recovery
Can get into download mode (using HOME+VOL-DOWN+POWER)
Using Odin 3 (1.85)
Phone was sitting on table, just started boot looping.
Tried to flash (everything) - stock Sprint image, CM ROM, etc.
Odin fails when it gets to reading the PIT information.
I looked everywhere for a Sprint GS3 PIT file, only found one, but it was labeled "i710" (probably by accident) and did not work.
If anyone has or can dump an image of their partition information (PIT) I would be extremely grateful, and willing to compensate you, because I'm an Android developer and kinda need my phone =)
More information:
Yes drivers are all installed and working. Phone is recognized as usual on three different laptops.
Yes phone was charged at least over 80% when trying anything.
Yes, tried multiple cables and USB ports (esp. powered ones) - phone connects fine.
Brought it to Sprint - they actually tried to flash it for me (nice guys!) but the software denied b/c of the custom binary.
Yes, I read every post here/elsewhere containing the keywords "PIT", "S3", and "brick" - many solutions would work, except for the fact that Odin won't get past reading the PIT.
No, I didn't do anything dumb like flashing GSM, international, custom crap, or by checking "repartition" or anything like that.
Not using any custom kernel or anything else - only the recovery (TWRP) and ROM (CM10) are custom.
Even more information (yes, I'm desperate!):
I tried all methods I could find - literally days worth of searching - including reinstalling the drivers, installing drivers while in download mode, connecting from Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Linux (Ubuntu - Mint).
Tried flashing stock recovery.
Tried flashing stock Sprint/Samsung image.
Tried flashing various PIT files claiming to be Sprint SGS3.
I basically gave in and was going to buy a new phone, but the dude at Sprint even said "this is fixable - you just need that PIT file", so I'd like to give it one last try before calling it. The phone really has been good to me, otherwise.
Any help is greatly appreciated! If you read all of this, you're a saint =)

Thanks. That's real helpful. It's not my thread, it's a related one I found after I posted, and this info is still relevant.

Samsung galaxy SIII hard bricked will not boot no power, but ODIN 1.85 can recognize it, (not the new Odins), when I try to re-flash it with Odin I get stuck at setupConnection..
any help? can I use the small USB mod
If you don't mind me asking, how you brick your phone?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
i have the same problem i used the Odin3 v1.85 and installed CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 zip but it failed. so then i tried to reboot it and said firmware update encountered an issue and something else. then i looked up how to unbrick and the post said to downloaded the zip CF-Insecure-SGS3_XX_NEE_ALE8-v1.2 and used Odin to install now i got nothing but a black screen buy it will go into download mode and Odin read it
You're not hard bricked if Odin can read your phone. Reboot your computer then reconnect and flash a stock rom to be safe.

If I'm not wrong ODIN uses TAR files and not ZIP files. Try unziping and see if there is a TAR file if there is then thats what you have to use in ODIN.
Same as OP's phone

Do you get a message when you plug it into your computer? Does the red LED turn on? Editing the scripts is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing!

I'm not saying that was the problem or that you did it wrong, but maybe the ROM was forced to flash and was truly not compatible or was corrupt, bricks are highly likely to occur in this case

The roms I have downloaded are supposed to be for Sprint s3 I was running stock JB 4.3 if that makes any difference, any help on what to do know, thinking of trying the unbrick mmc card trick .... idk what else to do... thanks : ) and something went wrong somewhere for sure... lol I also found out my exact model number if that helps. SPH-L710MBBSPR again thanks for you responses..
Ok, a few things I noticed....
1. You are using a very old version of Odin. I recommend only using 3.07 or 3.09.
2. The COM port box is yellow, which probably was trying to caution you about something.
3. You have a Sprint model S3. This is the T-Mobile S3 forum.
4. You have a Sprint S3, but were trying to flash old T999 firmware! This simply will not work, and if it were to flash, insta-brick!
What you need to do is start using the Sprint forums. Only flash items you find in those forums, and nothing else. While some of our roms might flash and boot on yours, they will never function very well. This is one of the things the asserts in an updater script are intended to protect against.
Finally, just a bit of posting advice. Please use proper punctuation. Small mistakes are ok, but posting with no punctuation at all just makes it difficult for people to read, and many will just close the thread and move to the next without bothering to help.

Oops! Just realized the pic in the op wasn't yours! But still, theyre all good points you should check before flashing. Also make sure kies is uninstalled or disabled on your computer.
But most importantly, you need to be in the Sprint forums. We can help a bit here, but you need to ONLY use stuff from your devices forum. And a lot of it we simply may not be familiar with.
Good luck!

Thank you.. I knew I was in the wrong forum and that is why I said my s3 was a Sprint device... My problem however was the same exact problem. I got it fixed with file from another forum, while follow info from yet another forum, the file that worked for me was HomefixSprint_S3_L710.img the debrick_sph_l710.img would not work for me. I used win32diskimager and burned .img file to class 10 32gb card, stuck it in went in to download mode and used odin to write firmware file... Anyway back up any running.. I didn't download any t-mobile roms or anything that wasn't for the Sprint S3, what I did do was try and load an older JB rom that was under V4.3, it wasn't that long ago when a person could flash any android version one wished, it looks like Samsung is getting as bad as Apple you can move up but not back. Any tips on how to safely downgrade? Anyway thanks for taking the time to respond. : ) Cause no one has in the Sprint S3 forum yet.

No, Samsung is not turning into apple, there is a reason you cannot downgrade from a Knox bootloader. And to downgrade, with this device we can just flash an older ROM and it will work, maybe its different with the Sprint variant? Try to search in their forums if you haven't already

Possible Return to stock via ODIN??

Ok, so I attempted to download a couple of roms from this site, used Odin to install TWRP recovery. Problem is every rom I attempt to download is hosted from an incredibly slow site, so it takes 3 hours to download a single rom. I would like to return to stock, BONE STOCK. I remember with my Sprint Epic 4G I was able to download a tar/pit file that had the original modem and rom in 2 files: a PIT file, and a TAR File. Using Odin to flash this would return my phone to factory/bone stock configuration getting rid of all recovery/root/ect. I would like to know if there is such a file for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S-2.
Anyone know?
My phone has been useless for the last 9 hours and every rom ive downloaded has not worked at all. (No Signal, No gapps, Not booting/black screen hang, ect)
I know I can download a similar app from HTC that will restore an HTC phone to stock settings, what about Samsung?
Also, does anyone know where I can download the latest ClockworkMod RECOVERY from so I can try to flash roms with that? I was thinking this TWRP recovery is the issue.
Thanks!
Have you read the stickies?
[HOWTO] ROOT, Install ClockworkMod Touch Recovery & get into Download Mode for newbie. It also has instructions for using Odin to get back to stock.
For the latest CWM...have you searched in the dev thread? Used Google/Bing?

I have read the stickies, in particular the one you attached. I also searched google (and bing, its still default on this pc) for the latest version of CWR, links I found are dead. Still didnt see anything in regards to what I asked specifically. Is there a way to restore, VIA ODIN, a STOCK ROM (PIT and TAR Files) similar to what was available with the older samsung Galaxy? I just downloaded the Jedi ROM and it actually booted with a signal, so Im giving it the "10 minutes" before I touch it. (Bummer everyone uses this wierd Dev Hosting site to host the files, download speeds of 37KB/sec are crazy slow with a 400+MB File).
I Thought about using Kies to restore to stock, not sure if thats even possible with a phone that has no rom installed since Ive never used Kies before. Guess I'll find out how well this rom works.

Im not trying to be a **** but you couldnt have searched. If you followed the link for an Odin file in the page I linked earlier, it would have led you to THIS page which has a working download link for stock Odin (Gingerbread).
If you would have Googled exactly what you want, the 2nd result would give you the ICS download.
And Google also returns the main page for CWM
Hope that helps.

I dont think your trying to be a **** at all so its all good, id tell anyone the same thing, I did do several searches searches, but sifting through 900+ pages in one of hundreds of threads is a little daunting...
Also the link I believe your referring to (http://www.technoxide.com/2012/11/galaxy-s2-jelly-bean-4.1.2-I9100XXLSJ-update.html) <<No 2 in google results for a Samsung i9100 SGS2, I downloaded that one, installed it, had a black screen after the samsung logo and the phone started getting very hot after I let it sit for 15 mins or so. Tried rebooting several times, same thing.. The model number for mine is a SGH-T989, are they the same? I tried that link and followed its instructions anyways, and like I said, no go...
Thanks tho man I do appreciate it, all is well with the Jedi Rom, seems to be working awesome without the bloat.. (Just took 3.5 hrs to download from that janky hosting site its on.)

Erm...the 2nd result was THIS thread, and partway down the page is THIS link listed as "T-Mobile SGH-T989_UVLI4 (Stock Odin ROM)" on the page.
Glad Jedi is working for you.
edit: oh. You dont have a T989 looks like you have an I9100? Might poke around the I9100 forum to find your Odin image.

[Q] Failed Sprint Note 2 Root Stuck in Loop, Dev not answering

I attempted a root on Samsung Note 2 Sprint version (in white). Followed all steps, however phone got stuck in a reboot loop right after I put the option 2 (root only) Odin step in. Sprint ver LPH889 (I believe that is what Odin is calling it, option 72). Toolkit used was ADB 4.1.0.
Original symptoms were that the Android updater was looping trying to load everything; being new I made it worse and tried recoveries and reloads which also failed. Now it boots, goes to splash, circling blue oval image and...it stays there.
Good news: I have access to download mode and recovery reset mode (including sideloading).
Bad news: every thread I've followed has given me an issue.
I have recovery access but I need some idea of where to go from here and searches have shown near but not exact symptoms. I have unplugged it from the pc, removed the battery, done a factory reset, attempted to reflash via Odin (root) attempted to reflash stock via Odin and so far I am still stuck in a reboot loop. Windows detects the phone but shows a problem in device manager because possibly it won't stop rebooting. Any help you can provide is appreciated and if at all possible I need to recover some form of working phone here, and soon. My girl needs it for work and Sprint's network in my area barely works from day to day (which they admit but don't credit my account for). This phone has problems sending/receiving calls, they claim it's fine, and I was forced to try a root to get some form of working device. That failed too.
I'm a newb at this...it's been years since I flashed a phone (Razor v3), so...any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to crawl to sprint/samsung and get it replaced, which I don't want to do. Thanks.

I thought it would to but I did not want to dig through 70+ pages of the thread when searching failed...unless I really needed to. Most of it is old and doesn't apply.
I was directed by the referenced Youtube vid. I used the options referenced for the phone in this thread with that toolkit. I backed up existing files (not as one unit, but internal files and I think OS), went for the option 2, followed the instructions and things went great through odin...until android went to update and started looping with the 'updating files' percentages. At that point I tried to restore to basic and started clearing caches and such and that is how I got to where I am.
When that failed I started looking at the leaked stock flash and that failed on shoot.ini which that guy never addressed because he thought his international version was all versions (that's why I choose 'doesitwork?' as screen name ). So i'm down to sideloading or something. I really need guidance, and I emailed the toolkit author but I'm still waiting on a reply.
Any thoughts?

When used the toolkit a year ago, I found that I had to turned off all firewalls and antivirus apps for it to work properly. Once I did that it worked fine....give it a shot...can't hurt......might even be able to repair what you've done so far.....Good Luck!!!
I'll give this my best shot...download a rooted rom from the development section and place it on your SD card.
Download toolkit from here (I take no credit for this) http://d-h.st/iu0
Put phone in download mode.
Open ODIN and uncheck "auto reboot". Then click "PDA" and add the .tar file (recovery).
Plug phone into PC (make sure to have samsung drivers installed).
Once ODIN sees the phone you can click "start".
When the recovery flash is complete, pull your battery to ensure power down.
Boot into recovery : volume up, home, power all at the same time.
Flash rooted rom.
Toolkit is an extra and unnecessary step.

Grab the one click flavor of choice. Use the one with 1090526 in the name as that's the full version.
Open in windows, put phone in download mode and flash. Easy Peasy.
Let me know if you have any issues with this.
Sorry for the late reply, I had some issues with the "catchpa".
The one click fix worked like a charm, thank you! I will soon be making a contrib to the site. It's a shame I couldn't root as easily  .
I know the level of work that goes into this stuff and the desire to keep on top of new gear while maintaining support for the old and I appreciate the community coming to my aid, so again, thank you!

[Q] cant flash 4.1.2 after botched 4.3 ROM attempt?

I wasn't paying attention to the model numbers I was looking at and tried to install an N7100 ROM on my SGH-T889. I installed it, fudged my IMEI and tried to rollback to the previous ROM I had in place but it didn't resolve my IMEI unknown issue. I tried to restore my backups, nothing. I have tried multiple stock firmware versions for my phone I have found on here but ODIN fails on every single one, most of them sitting at boot.img, MD5 hash invalid or getting stuck on system. I am unable to get into recovery, only the download screen. I think because the ROM I tried was 4.3 it messed up my bootloader and wont let me go back to 4.1.2 but I cant put anything on it at this point. Ive tried multiple versions of ODIN, different USB ports, cables, rebooted my PC and Im out of ideas at this point. I apologize in advance because I'm sure the answer is out there I just cant find it and I've been looking for a few days.

Its possible that when you tried to flash 4,3 rom you also ended up with the stupid KNOX security thing. Which means you cant go back to older roms only 4.3. (as far as i know, im still a bit of a noob with this stuff)
It might be usefull to post what you get on the screen when in download mode, hat will give people more info to help you with i guess.
I did a similar thing too you a while ago and lose my imei and such, i cant exactly remember how i fixed it, i think i just flashed a stock from from sammobile.
If you havent tried that, then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032849
Did you try flashing stock 4.3 ROM for SGH-T889 from sammobile ?
Try flashing the MK7 modem ? You can find it under development forums.

I have tried a 4.3 stock ROM, to no avail. I will try it again now though.

I did indeed, although The modem I tried now that I am looking back through my downloads I believe was for the N7000 model. I will look through it and try to find it. Thanks for your reply.
I seem to have gotten myself out of the hole Ive dug. Hopefully if anyone else gets this deep, this will help. Given the fact that I erroneously flashed a 4.3 ROM I screwed myself over for going back but I was able to flash the latest firmware from sammobile (4.3) The file should be named T889UVUCMK7_T889TMBCMK7_TMB. I unzipped it, reinstalled ODIN 3.09 and tried a few times with negative results. However, Ive seen several conflicting posts about Kies, some say delete it completely, some say use it so I reinstalled it BUT I ended the process in task manager before I connected my phone and opened ODIN. I flashed only the firmware in the PDA section, no .pit files, no .phone files. It completed after about 10 minutes and I now have a stock 4.3 note 2, wifi capable and data service enabled. My download screen still shows custom binary download8 counts) which I know I can revert using triangle away but current binary and system status both show samsung official. The Knox warranty void still shows:1. Tmobile has sent me a replacement due to my negligence and ignorance in reaching out to them and I have 2 phones, the one I just fixed and the warrantied replacement on 4.1.2 sitting next to it. Should I just return the replacement back to them and tell them I fixed my issue or should I send them the old phone and keep the refurb? Im not familiar with the procedures phone companies follow when it comes to inspecting phones that are sent back to them but it seems to me that it is an expensive gamble because if they get my old one and see the Knox tripped, I imagine they would claim its out of warranty and charge me some astronomical amount.

Putting a 100$ bounty for someone to fix my phone (SGH-i317M)

I am at my wits end to try to repair my phone. It is softbricked and responds to download mode only.
I've had chat with xda members and read threads on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/nand-write-start-fail-odin-soluction-t2851096
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-1/help/help-help-unbricking-galaxy-note-10-1-t2872125
and many others. in the end, my phone is still stuck with the NAND Write Start error with odin.
I know it happened after i tried creating a backup of my phone in recovery mode (phone was rooted with cf auto root and had a version of CWM on it). CWM gave me a warning about possibly bricking the phone, i agreed to the warning beacuse it always worked in the past, but when i rebooted, it was bricked this time.
this phone is not dead but samsung won't fix it beacuse it is rooted. I refuse to throw it away. I have read many people have it this error since kitkat 4.4 so surely there is a fix somewhere. I am hoping somebody will be more resourceful/experienced than i am.
I have tried changing to several different USB ports, without a hub, using original cables (bunch of different ones too) in many many different order and fashion. I tried enough variation to be convinced it is statistically impossible that all my hardware that was previously working for flashing has stopped working all at once. aka - it is not a usb port or data cable problem
may be related to data charging port on the phone though I highly suspect it given how it started.
I tried different roms, different versions of odin, i tried depackaging and repackaging roms, i simply do not know what to do anymore.
i tried reflashing with kies but kies just dies on me.
i tried flashing it with adb but adb won't even connect. when i plug the phone windows recognizes it and usb driver seems to work ok (not getting an error)
I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers several times, rebooting in between installs. no difference.
i tried flashing different bootloaders as well as entire roms, no difference
I tried changing the pit file but that failed as well (odin couldn't even write the pit so my phone is not dead even if i failed pitting it)
i have access to both windows and ubuntu linux if it makes a difference.
Here are the terms of the bounty:
Price : 100$ (payable by paypal from eniac0 @ "some google mail domain starting with gm"
goal : find a fix that works on the latest firmware for SGH-i317M (Rogers, Canada)
how : i don't know but i need to be able to reproduce it. I am not new to flashing but anything advanced will need to be explained clearly.
I don't really know how this sorts of request usually turns out but i am serious. you even got my google mail address to bill me up if i fail to pay.
have you given a look at this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711825 it might give you some ideas to help you out. also did you try flashing a new recovery to see if you could at least get it to boot to that?
dont care about the bounty just trying to toss something out there that may help you
Did you ever try flashing the stock recovery - JUST the stock recovery - through Odin?
If not, grab the recovery.img and make your own tarball for Odin in Linux.
Hopefully that will flash and get you closer.

Since you mentioned Ubuntu, you can also try using heimdall instead of odin... http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/ . Unfortunately, I think it may be a hardware problem?
Since you are willing to pay to have it fixed, if all else fails, you can always send it off to http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-note-jtag-brick-repair/. It will actually be cheaper than what you are offering to pay ~$40 + shipping
good luck
Thanks all for your help, I've messed around and gotten no closer. I'm beginning to lean on a hardware failure, perhaps from the usb data port either that or the way bootloaders are packaged in kitkat 4.4 is different. which is why initially this thread gave me hope: http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/nand-write-start-fail-odin-soluction-t2851096 but i tried far too many times now to believe I'm going to succeed. In fact, I've gotten confused as to what i tried, in which order, with which rom. I'm basically trying anything and that's a recipe for bricking the phone for good. so i've stopped.
I'll also thank kozmo21 for the link to the repair shop. i was unaware this existed, as a last resort I'll be sending them my phone. If it turns out they are able to repair it, I'll honor my word and give you something for having been part of the solution.

Have you tried going to sammobile and download the newest firmware and only flashing that in odin?
Use CF auto root. Put the phone in download mode and flash it in Odin. I soft bricked my phone and it fixed it.
Also this guy had great walk through videos on how to do everything you need.
http://www.rootjunky.com/samsung/samsung-galaxy-note-2/
If it works to fix your phone. Keep your money. I'll take the karma points for putting you on the correct path.

More than likely its a bootloader issue my phone did that and all i did was flash the bootloader then it worked again but hes done so much idk what he needs now that's y i said to try a firmware to see if that helps
Download toolkit and select option to push file into phone.
Download a ROM of your choosing, push it into your phone, restart in recovery mode and select file.
Update?
Did you get it fixed? Just my two cents, in case you didnt, I had a similar problem and alll I did to fix it was flash the JediMasterX2 ROM with CWM and everything worked out.
