Recovery mode ADP update ?? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont want to bury this in my other post.
Has anyone managed to update the box firmware via the recovery console (USB keyboard alt prnt scn i method)..
My box is stuck in a loop of old firmware that insists on an update before it will boot and outside the USA where they wont give an update to. Catch 22.

To my knowledge, ADB is disabled in stock recovery. And furthermore, USB peripheral mode is disabled in the kernel. Therefore I know of know way to do anything useful with stock recovery.

If your PC has two network connections (e.g., wifi and ethernet), you can connect to the internet via VPN with one connection interface, and set the other to share your PC's connection and connect the Fire TV. For example, setup a VPN connection via Wifi on your PC, then connect the Fire TV to your PC via ethernet, and set your PC to share your wifi connection over its ethernet port.

[Q] Anyone have ethernet access for N7 LTE working yet?

Hi
I am trying to get ethernet access on the N7 LTE using a USB OTG cable and USB-Ethernet adapter. Has anyone had success with patching the stock images, or is there a development ROM that has this available.
Thanks
Alex
Yes. Take a look here. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58868
There's a lot to go through, but the condensed version is that a fellow made a new boot image that supports Ethernet connections via USB OTG. Your bootloader must be unlocked in order to flash the boot image.
Thanks, but it is still not working.
I have downloaded the N7 LTE patched boot image from the thread and flashed it. My N7 boots successfully but using the OTG cable + USB ethernet adapter the ethernet is not recognised (I am using a USB 2.0 ethernet adapter from the company 'Plugable')
I have also tried to extract, edit and repack an official rom, but I get an error during the repack stage. I am trying to use Android kitchen and cygwin.
So I am stuck. Help!
Update.
Using the patched boot image, then rooting, and then issuing the command 'dhcpcd eth0' in terminal I can browse the internet in Chrome. However GMail and Play store don't work connect correctly
Everything seems to work now except Youtube app.
Frustrating thing is that I have to connect to a wifi source, disconnect, and then ethernet works (I am not using a sim). If I dont connect first to wifi, the apps dont see the connection!
I went to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app over ethernet and the device does not see a network! Would have thrown the device in the garbage disposal shute (if I had one).
Finally there is a solution to get ethernet working on the Nexus 7 2013 LTE with all apps without connecting to Wifi first and praying to the heavens. I found that installing the latest stable Cyanogen Rom works, so I can now use this needlessly hampered device for what I purchased it for.
Hope this saves someone some valuable time, unnecessarily wasted by ? at Goggle for reasons unfathomable.

[Q] "Unable to connect" using ADB -- so no sideloading

My Amazon Fire TV seems to work fine. I can access the ADB Debugging option via: System>Developer>Options>Debugging. I can select "ON," and it changes to a blue highlight.
I also know the IP Address both via the Fire TV and via my router (running Tomato), where I assigned a static IP address to the Fire TV. I've tried to acces it via terminal both on my Android phone and on my Linux machine (with ADB installed).
But when I do the sequence outlined here:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb connect <ipaddress>
I get this error: "unable to connect to <ipaddress>"
Anyone have any idea why? The Fire TV is connected via wifi, but I'm not sure why that would matter.
I've seen a number of random posts around the web with the same question, but no solution. So help is definitely needed!

Few suggestions. First, it could be an issue with your router, firewall, wifi, etc. Also, make sure your computer or android device is using the same router when you try to connect. I have two in my house, and almost went crazy when I could not connect to the 3rd FTV I tried to program until I realized my phone was on the other one.
These devices are easy to sideload, so IMO it is probably your router and id check that first. If you have another router, id try that too. Wired up on ethernet.
Have you tried pinging the FTV from your PC to make sure your PC can actually "see" the FTV on your network?
try adding :5555 to the end of the IP.
Thanks everyone! Byrdcfmma was right: It appears that not only must the FireTV be on the same network, but also on the same exact router. I have multiple routers on the same network, and it would only work if I am on the same exact router.
I solved this by ensuring my android device was on the WiFi network of the router that I then connected, via ethernet, to the FireTV.

"adb stopped"
I am new to fire sticks, Kodi and ADB and am having trouble connecting to my stick using ADB fire. I have installed everything as per all the you tube videos and online guides tell me and can connect to my fire stick using cmd prompts (which it tells me is successful). Yet when i open up ADB Fire, i have added my stick and the correct ip address but it say "ADB Stopped" in the bottom right hand corner. In all the guides ive seen it always says connecting and i cant find a solution (5 hours in and counting!!). I am using an EE fibre router and need some help pls. I cannot find a site anywhere online that covers this and i know its something super simple i am missing! Below is the log:

[Q] How to access USB storage via WiFi on Amazon Fire TV?

Hi,
Now that Amazon Fire TV officially supports USB storage, is there a way to connect to it via WiFi from a PC?
I'd like to be able to send files to the attached USB stick. Is there a way to do this?
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:

You need to be rooted. Then you can run an Android Samba app. Expect slow transfer rates. Probably quicker to unplug the stick and plug it into your PC.

Thanks so much for your response. My firmware does not allow rooting. Is there no way to do this without the root?
Could the HooToo TripMate Nano Wireless N Pocket Travel Router set up and connect the USB storage through adhoc wireless mode to the FIre TV / Stick without root?
connect the hard drive to ur pc or android device via an otg cable and push the files using adb
If all you are looking for is to manually transfer files without root, there are several apps out there called something similar to "WiFi File Transfer" that run on Android devices and let you connect to them via an ip address in a browser on another device, I've used the free version of this one (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer&hl=en), which is limited to 5MB file transfers, on other Android devices, it was very simple. I haven't tried this on my Stick, though it might be easy if you install Google Play first.
If you are looking for SMB network sharing, then I agree with everyone else, you need root or you need to connect the hardrive to something else like a computer or your router.
I havent tried this without root but you could run a ftp server app on the firetv and connect to it that way.
I tried googling it but got conflicting answers if it will work without root.

Help! Bricked Firestick2 by Disabling WiFi

I sideloaded settings.apk to my Fire Stick 2.
I opened it up, & accidently disabled wifi.
Now the stick barely boots past the logo, and displays a no network WiFi error message. It wants to connect to a network, but won't since Wifi is off. Rebooting has no effect.
Worst of all: the remote will no longer communicate with the stick. I guess that connects over wifi too.
I need to enable wifi again to unbrick my device. Or factory reset. But I can't use the remote. I have no way to input commands, that I know of. So the remote reset is a no go.
I will try to reset using adb commands over windows, connected via micro usb.
And/Or find a way to reflash the stock rom, or a custom one. I don't care about root. My stick is not rooted, runs some version of Fire OS, and its got Kodi and a few other apps sideloaded. Install Unknown Sources and Adb debug should both still be enabled.
Please help me guys! I need my tv back. What's my best course of action? Anyone got any steps, instructions or helpful links? I'm no expert, and I'd love experienced input.
If you can connect via ADB, then see this guide on how to control it: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-remotely-control-an-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick-via-adb/
Your other option is to use an OTG cable with a USB keyboard. See here: http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-fire...d-ethernet-adapters-via-usb-otg-without-root/
