Hi
I am trying to get ethernet access on the N7 LTE using a USB OTG cable and USB-Ethernet adapter. Has anyone had success with patching the stock images, or is there a development ROM that has this available.
Thanks
Alex
Yes. Take a look here. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58868
There's a lot to go through, but the condensed version is that a fellow made a new boot image that supports Ethernet connections via USB OTG. Your bootloader must be unlocked in order to flash the boot image.
Thanks, but it is still not working.
I have downloaded the N7 LTE patched boot image from the thread and flashed it. My N7 boots successfully but using the OTG cable + USB ethernet adapter the ethernet is not recognised (I am using a USB 2.0 ethernet adapter from the company 'Plugable')
I have also tried to extract, edit and repack an official rom, but I get an error during the repack stage. I am trying to use Android kitchen and cygwin.
So I am stuck. Help!
Update.
Using the patched boot image, then rooting, and then issuing the command 'dhcpcd eth0' in terminal I can browse the internet in Chrome. However GMail and Play store don't work connect correctly
Everything seems to work now except Youtube app.
Frustrating thing is that I have to connect to a wifi source, disconnect, and then ethernet works (I am not using a sim). If I dont connect first to wifi, the apps dont see the connection!
I went to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app over ethernet and the device does not see a network! Would have thrown the device in the garbage disposal shute (if I had one).
Finally there is a solution to get ethernet working on the Nexus 7 2013 LTE with all apps without connecting to Wifi first and praying to the heavens. I found that installing the latest stable Cyanogen Rom works, so I can now use this needlessly hampered device for what I purchased it for.
Hope this saves someone some valuable time, unnecessarily wasted by ? at Goggle for reasons unfathomable.

I've been running CyanogenMod 10.2 on my rooted HTC One for a good long while now. Since the ROM worked so well, I never had the need to connect the phone to a computer via USB in quite some time. A few months ago, when I attempted to transfer some photos, I ran into a weird and frustrating road block; my phone is simply not being recognized by any computer <see here>
I have updated all drivers
I have enabled debugging in Developer Options
I have tried rebooting Fastboot in bootloader
I have tried using the toolkits
I have tried everything I think I know
The weird part is that the phone charges via USB connected to the computer.
Since it didn't effect much, I just figured it was a glitch and I never ran into a problem again--that is, until today. I hadn't used my MHL adapter with the HTC One (only my GNexus), but after reviewing an intended installation of a Pioneer Appradio, I wanted to ensure that my One would work with the MHL. Hooking up my One to the Samsung MHL adapter (and power supply of course), I get no display on my television.
I am now beginning to wonder if the USB port is damaged. Visual inspection doesn't reveal anything, but I am curious if anyone has had this problem and would appreciate any help. Is there any way to test if I've fouled up the port?
Does the phone recognize that it is connected to a pc? Can you access the phones storage from your pc?

No and no
I installed Flashify and did install CWM 6.0.4.7 to see if it would help, but to no avail
Have you tried adb with a different rom or stock via ruu? If it still dosent work then, either your usb port or your cable is messed up.

I have tried adb, but the device never is recognized.
I'm currenty transferring my TWRP backup via WiFi.
I planned on switching to CM11 and see if I can't get it to work after that.
Is there anyway to use that internet stick with network sim card via USB with OTG Cable ?? By installing a custom rom or kernel ?
Which device are you wanting to use it on?
As far as I know the T21X (7.0) doesn't have USB-OTG support, the T31X (8.0) & P52XX (10.1) do.
In the past I've used an app called PPP Widget to use a dongle/internet stick successfully, it requires root though.
See - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068198
App - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.draisberghof.pppwidget
There's no guarantee it'll work on all USB-OTG enabled devices & I think not all USB internet sticks are supported.
May be worth a try if you can.
Hello everybody.... I write because I'm facing a problem that's causing lot of headhache:
I have this Samsung A3 (SM-A320FL) with broken screen, no USB debug, no root and stock recovery and I need to retrieve data from it.
I tried almost everything:
- programs like Dr.Fone, but the model wasn't supported
- connect the smartphone to the pc, but I can't confirm the mtp connection from the first
- used a USB otg splitter, one port filled with a mouse and another connected directly to the pc, but the smartphone wasn't even seen
I was thinking to flash a custom recovery to use adb, but:
I don't even know what version of Android is installed, nor firmware and I think that encryption was automatically turned on, so unless someone of you has a solution, the best for now is to repair the screen.
The situation is interesting but honestly I didn't see as many solutions...
Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Today I tried to transfer some files from my Pixel to my PC.
After plugging in different cables into different PCs and Ports I only could get my phone to load.
There was no way to change it to transfer mode...
Windows didn't recognize the phone at all.
In the developer options it is already set to data transfer / Android Auto.
I am using the latest December (October) patch.
My final goal was to backup my data and install a different ROM now after there are no more official updates.
Anyone has an idea how to get my phone connected to a PC again? In the past it was working well - but I don't know how long it isn't working anymore.
PS: I already cleaned to USB port of my Pixel.
Thanks a lot!
I just bought a used Pixel 2 XL and have the same problem. I've been through every solution here and on Google Pixel support with no luck (see below).
The phone connects via USB for a second and brings up ADB debugging auth, then disconnects. Every other thing I plug into the phone works fine (thumb drive, OTG camera, charger). Wireless ADB works fine, but I can't unlock the bootloader this way (that I know of). I can't get ADB or Fastboot access in bootloader or recovery.
It's got to be a software problem on the phone. I'm currently running build RP1A.201005.004.
On the factory image page, there's a new image, RP1A.201005.004.A1, Dec 2020, that I hope is a fix, but I've got no way to install it except if I get it OTA.
If anyone has any ideas on other things to try, please LMK! Thanks!
Solutions I've tried:
Cleaned port, dozens of cables, USB 1, 2, & 3 ports on four different machines and three different OS that work with ADB on other phones, every phone ADB/USB setting on/off in all combinations, cleared data for external storage, can't clear data for media storage because it's now grayed out in this build.
Hello fellow developers,
I recently rooted my A32 without any prior knowledge. I did it so i could install Nethunter app on it to essentially turn it into a functional portable kali linux device. Foolishly, i did not check the compatibility for my device with full nethunter installatiion. Turn out my device has one of the most annoying kernel. Can any android guru help me in flashing my phone with right software to run nethunter fully (everything currently works except for HID and WIFI injection).
I have tried to connect my Ralink rt3070 external usb wifi adapter with otg but my phone is not currently recongnising it as a wifi adapter.
IMPOTANT TO NOTE:
When I write lsusb, it correctly lists the device. but in ifconfig, my adapter is not being listed. as far as my knowledge its a driver issue.
Thanks in Advance.
Burhan A.
You should say it was for nethunter, just flash this via magisk https://github.com/rithvikvibhu/nh-magisk-wifi-firmware
Thank you alot. I will try to flash it if i run into any problems, i will ask.

Hi,
I installed the drivers via magisk and rebooted. Look at all the attached screenshots. Unfortunately, my adapter is still not working with my phone I think my kernel doesn't support wifi adapters because on the GitHub page for wifi drivers, the person said that it might not work with such devices.
Anyways, one thing that is bugging me Is that when I type in lsusb, my adapter is showing properly with its default chipset. But after running ifconfig, I get no "wlan1". I only see the phone's adapter which is very weird.
Look at the screenshots
