[Q] Updating rooted device - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i recently did this "one click root" thing, because my computer was broken. Anyway, i would like to ask if i can update system through the "Update center" or w/e the name is. If so, will the root privileges remain?
Thank you. Martin

You can't take OTAs while rooted, however you can still update apps through the update center. It us very rare to have an OTA work while rooted, so if you want to take an OTA you need to unroot.

It's just as simple as unroot with SuperUser? With any rooting method?
Thanks

Not always because your RCT checker will still say rooted in most cases so you need to flash back to stock.

Is that not a one time unroot? I thought that if you unrooted with that method you could not root again until you reflashed the phone.

[Q] Ok to update the latest Sprint update after rooting?

I rooted my EVO using unrevoked and I received a notification from Sprint that there are new updates. Is it ok to update after my phone is rooted?

You will lose root, just like it says in their instructions.

Yes you will lose your root, but its not as bad as everyone makes it sound now. With Unrevoked out it is easy to root so just run it then re root with unrevoked. I did the exact same thing on purpose knowing it would unroot me but it was fast and easy to root again and I felt better knowing I was up to date with Sprint's official stuff.
So with UnrEVOked, future OTA updates still work? I'm also thinking about updating the radio, WiMax, etc. (link)

Thus far, that's the common consensus.

The latest update wouldn't work for me. I had to download the update to my pc, transfer the update to he root of my SD card and run the update from recovery and when it was done I lost root, but I just ran unrevoked again and was rooted once more.
BTW the update isn't exactly a quick process, maybe 20 minutes or so. In fact it was taking so long that I thought it locked up, but it didn't and it worked.

I cannot connect to the network and want to install the OTA to loose root, and then root again later. I installed the OTA via wi-fi but get an error when installing.
Where can I find the unrooted version of the latest ota to download to my PC?

[Q] I received the D851 10m OTA today. Some questions.

I have rooted, and I have xposed installed.
What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Another question, I found the ota.zip should I make flashable/rooted version? As far as I have looked, no one else has done it yet

Got this just now...but don't wanna lose root. The notification is annoying as hell. I would flash and update if it won't bork everything but I'd settle for just getting rid of the notification. Anybody know how to get rid of it??
Everything I do or have is custom.... Period.

When I long press, I see "App Info" and when I press it, it shows Google Play Services.
When it is disabled, does the update go away, or is it still on my G3 waiting to be installed?
Anyone know how this happened? I'm rooted, with custom everything, and I have OTA updates disabled!
I'm doing a TWERP backup anyway.
Anyone that has installed the update - did you get root back?

Reverse root back

Does anyone know how I can get rid of the root access. I'm gonna give phone to my wife, and don't want her to have root access. That could be bad

You can unroot via SuperSU, and if you want to untrip the LGRCT flag then you need to use the flash tool.
Do you think the flag or the root is causing update to fail?

I tried to reroot with Vroot and it fails .
How to fix this problem?
apologize for bad english.
Never take an OTA after rooting...
If you tried rooting again using the same method, that means the OTA you took broke that root method...possibly on purpose.

Can you "unroot" a G3 after rooting using "Purple Drake" method

I have a G3 on vodafone in the UK (LG-D855) on KitKat and i rooted it myself using the Purple Drake method, can i just unroot the phone and upgrade to latest OS via the normal route using the over the air method?

Thanks for the reply neutrondev, excuse my ignorance i know very LITTLE about any of this stuff.
You say "reflash to stock" i presume you mean reflash to my default ROM (bit like an image on a windows PC) i can't seem to find a stock rom for my phone, I have gone to http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-stock-roms/ but can't find anything for "Vodafone" or am i being a complete idiot about this and missing the point?
In an ideal world i'd like to be able to do OTA updates in the future, if poss or do i always have to update using a ROM?
Sorry for the stupid questions.

If you are rooted you lose OTA. Try to go in supersu apps settings and there should be an option to remove root completly. Try that then check with rootchecker
