I rooted my EVO using unrevoked and I received a notification from Sprint that there are new updates. Is it ok to update after my phone is rooted?

You will lose root, just like it says in their instructions.

Yes you will lose your root, but its not as bad as everyone makes it sound now. With Unrevoked out it is easy to root so just run it then re root with unrevoked. I did the exact same thing on purpose knowing it would unroot me but it was fast and easy to root again and I felt better knowing I was up to date with Sprint's official stuff.
So with UnrEVOked, future OTA updates still work? I'm also thinking about updating the radio, WiMax, etc. (link)

The latest update wouldn't work for me. I had to download the update to my pc, transfer the update to he root of my SD card and run the update from recovery and when it was done I lost root, but I just ran unrevoked again and was rooted once more.
BTW the update isn't exactly a quick process, maybe 20 minutes or so. In fact it was taking so long that I thought it locked up, but it didn't and it worked.

I cannot connect to the network and want to install the OTA to loose root, and then root again later. I installed the OTA via wi-fi but get an error when installing.
Where can I find the unrooted version of the latest ota to download to my PC?

Hey guys I have the unrevoked apk for basic superuser privlages, and I've read about unrevoked and the new ota but I have trouble determining whether people are describing the part 2 root or not. Can anyone tell me if theunrevoked app still works after the ota? Thanks.

Check software version in settings about.1.47 would be new I believe.
I got myself into a interesting situation. A quick answer would be greatly appreciated:
1. I'm rooted.
2. Trying to install the OTA so I can run 2.2 the right way.
3. I started a thread asking for help because I was confused on unrooting my phone. Didn't get much help, a quick flame, and last someone chimed in to install the OTA from Rom Manager. I asked if I could do this with Root and the thread was killed.
4. I did. The boot screen was the new one. But the radio wasn't updated.
5. I then attempted to unroot my phone. Followed the PB31IMG.zip method. Phone booted normally. Root was lost.
6. This is where I am now.
7. My question is, if I install the OTA now renamed update.zip on my SD card, will I run the chance of bricking my phone because I installed it once from Rom Manager while I had root (#3/#4)??????
Please advise so I don't MOD EDIT up my phone.................
And if you're going to flame and insist I should of just followed the 2.2 leak instructions, you're correct. But I took someone's quick answer and tried it assuming they knew a better method.

Well, "the right way" would be to wait for the actual OTA. Verizon would also have your back if you brick. But, anyway...
If you're still on the 1.00.03.04.06 radio, you can probably follow the instructions in that thread now that you've flashed back to the stock ROM. However, there still seem to be a few cases of people bricking their phones or being stuck in a bootloop after flashing leaks.
If you are confused/concerned/afraid of bricks then you just shouldn't flash the leaked OTA. This is not a flame, this is sound advice. Wait for the real one.
I'm fine with flashing. I just keep hearing about this "double install OTA and brick your phone" issue and I'm trying to avoid doing that. If the one guy didn't chime in with the suggestion to use ROM Manager, I wouldn't of had this issue.
My radio is still 1.00.03.04.06. I just want to make sure I don't run a risk of bricking.
If the hboot updated, i would say not to apply again. If it didnt update then i would say to see what happens, but dont take my word for it 100%

I personally have had a .77 HBOOT since I got my phone in April. My mom's phone, on the other hand, had the .79, which she has had since May, and she sure as hell didn't have no 720p camcorder. I don't think that the OP's phone having .79 means with any certainty that the OTA already applied once. I think the radio version listed on the HBOOT screen would be a better indicator.
But absolutely, running the PB13IMG should ensure that he's as far back as he can go, so why not try it just to be safe...

That's what I just did before I posted this thread. I installed the PB13IMG and restored everything back to stock. You asked about the HBOOT version and that's .79. I'm comfortable flashing and doing the update. What should HBOOT say? Has anyone successfully updated the OTA from .79 HBOOT?
Thank you for the help. Sorry for the questions. I completely comfortable with rooting, flashing roms, and kernals. This is going back to unroot stock is just new.
I want to install the OTA and I'm good to go. Just making sure it's safe now....

Agreed, however, I noticed after running the PB13IMG, my HBOOT was also .79, which could have only come from the PB13IMG since I hadn't tried to do the OTA yet. Just trying to add pieces to the puzzle to get a better picture for future reference...I'm sure this guy wont be the last to ask...

I appreciate the help guys. I guess my question would be if I ran PB13IMG, lost my root, back to stock, my HBOOT is .79 and my radio is still 1.00.03.04.06 and not 2.05.00.06.11, I should be at the same point as everyone else for installing the OTA from my SD card. Right or wrong?
When you read these threads and people are installing the OTA twice and bricking, are they installing the OTA again when the radio is already updated to 2.05.00.06.11?
Yep. I think you can flash it again, but be real cautious, as this is your second time flashing it, but if the radio is still the old versoin, you should be safe.

Ok I have a rooted hero and my boss has the evo so I don't get to updating it much. I used unrevoked to root the phone when they first came out and have installed no updates so far. I saw I missed unrevoked2 and 3 and reading the notes on the website leaves me with more questions then answers. I tried running the recovery console from hboot but it gave me a red triangle with !.
So now I am trying to figure out how to update since I can't access the recovery screen. Can I just update to 1.42 and then run the unrevoked3 and have full root access? Any suggestions. Thanks
that sounds like it should work, do it quick though because when froyo 2.2 comes out, u might not be able to root.
and btw unrevoked 3 is not a full root, if u use simple root it is, and just as easy, might take 15 min. though
When you are at that screen with the red triangle hold volume up and press power that should get you into the boot screen.

You unlock NAND which means you can make changes to the file system. If you want to remove stock apps, make any file changes or want to install custom ROMs, then you need NAND unlocked. Careful though, it downgrades your PRI and there is NO way to upgrade it again, even if you return to stock. If you are able to do what you need with what unrevoked provides, you are better off sticking with it.

so if I don't care about running custom roms (only really interested in wireless tether) then upgrading the phone...breaking root...and then just running unrevoked3 would be my best option?

Yes but you have to be fully rooted...nand unlocked...and have a recovery flashed to download that.

My advise, don't update to 1.42, unistall unrevoked and do Toast root 1 and 2 method, then you'll have nand unlocked so you can flash a 1.42 rom already rooted, after that you can flash any Froyo flavor you want.

Hey guys,
This probably isn't just for DHD users but seeing as thats what im using i'll post it here!
So a while back i went through the custom ROM phase. I am by no means an expert in this area, im just able to follow instructions!
I rooted with visionary and went radio-off with the one click method (My phone was on 1.32). I gave a few ROMS a go and just preferred stock battery life etc so restored the stock ROM from my clockwork recovery back-up.
My question is how do i get my phone back to the state where it will receive official OTA updates from HTC (I've read that they wont work once you've done the S-off/radio-off procedure).
If its not possible to get it back to this state then what options do i have for getting official updates (say whenever HTC push the 2.3.3 ROM!)
Thanks Guys
easy way , run ruu updater utility for your phone but you loose all data and settings
Unroot it and install stock rom. You should be able to get total updates then

Yep, that's the guide to follow
That's the one. Use 1.32.405.6 RUU. Then you must turn your phone S-ON, you can follow the instructions in my radio s-off tool thread to do that.
Is this correct that if you root and have S-OFF you won't receive updates? I asked that question at the time of rooting and was told that I would still get updates?
The only reason I rooted was to get Adfree working and get other such apps for rooted devices.
My Rom is the 1.32.405.6 as I bought the DHD all I have done is root with Visionary and got S-OFF.

I used the S-OFF tool and Visionary temp root then perm root. How would we go about restoring everything when it comes to being able to get the 2.3 update?
Kind of wish I didn't root now as I was told the oppisite that S-OFF and rooting wouldn't effect getting updates.
Edit: I just used attempt unroot with Visionary, the DHD rebooted and I used root checker from the market and it says I don't have root now. Would this be sufficient to get updates now do you think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yep, that should be alright. If the OTA does not want to install, you can just flash HTC RUU and the issue will be fixed. You will get a notification about the OTA anyway, so you do not have to guess whether it works or not.
Thanks that's good to know that the update notification will come and that by unrooting fixes any problems. In the meantime until 2.3 comes I think I'll reroot
I only rooted in the first place to get things like Adfree and Drocap2 working.

After searching the forum and reading many posts, it still is not clear to me if the 2.3.4 OTA (I'm being prompted for 4.06) will break S-Off.
When I rooted my Incredible using Unrevoked3, the custom recovery wasn't out yet or otherwise wasn't included. I believe that I am still running stock recovery (haven't flashed any ROMs).
If I do this update will I lose S-Off or lose root?
I know this topic seems redundant, but I haven't read a clear answer.
Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing.
I just got the last issue on skyraider 4.3 working again, and I don't really want to start over.

I'm having enough issues trying to get everything working with rooting my htc vivid

If the OTA actually can be accepted with your custom recovery (debatable), you would lose root IMO. I think what Stang means is that if you're s-off, you can reflash clockwork and superuser, and reaquire root easily. So it doesn't break your ability to root again.
