New Touch Pro 2 from collegue broken. Common problem?

Both my colleague and I have a new Touch Pro 2 WWE Rhodium since about 2 months.
My colleague was, since he has the telephone complaining about very short battery life. Mine lasts easily 7 days in regular use (now shorter because 24/7 direct pushmail connection). His battery is completely drained within 24 hours.
We contacted the dealer and they have ordered a brand new battery for him. He tried the new battery and I now have his "bad" battery in my phone. But his battery is still dead within 24 hours and in my phone it lasts 'forever'.....
Today I offered to upgrade both phones firmware to make sure all settings were cleared and both phones are configured exactly identical!
Well. I first went to go give both phones a cold boot (call+end+power > vol up). On my phone works perfectly, but my colleagues phone does not respond to the VOL UP button, it completely freezes and does not respond to any button, so I have to pull out the battery. Tried it over at least 20 times!
At last I just updated both firmwares which went OK, but even after that the COLD RESET is not possible.
Finally I found out the END/HOME button didn't respond. My colleague just always used the on-screen end button, so you couldn't accidentally skip the option to create a call note.
After that I tried to get into the COLD reset screen by only using the CALL + POWER button, and that worked!
To make a long story short, the phone is now going back for service. It's a plain DOA and I am positive this is related to the battery drain problem. His phone gave very high "device usage" durations.
PS. Why the long story? At the end when typing this thread I found the cause of this problem. I was hoping someone could point me to the solution but I found it myself.
My final little question is: Is this a common problem with this type of phone or is my colleague just plain unlucky? Do I have to worry about the buttons of my phone? My HTC TyTN buttons broke down on me twice and once on my colleagues phone.

Amazing... mine wont last more than 8 hours with gprs connected 24/7, 1 push exchange account, 2 push yahoo account with seven, 2 hours call, 100+ emails a day, IM+.
Can you give details what apps running in your phone?

Maybe he uses his phone way more than you? I use mine a lot and if I was away from a charger for 24 hours it for sure wouldn't make it.

I just had to warranty my phone tonight because the end key is dead on my phone. I have the Verizon version and the end key is actually a combination button that is also the power key. It acts like its stuck down so when the phone boots it immediately tries to turn itself off and i have to watch it boot so i can select "No" to the power off question. After that I get zero response from the key. I know it works though because if I pull the battery out I can turn the phone on with it. Hopefully these are isolated and this doesn't become a common problem with these phones because I love it otherwise.

Do you have the Touch Pro 2 or the Imagio? Doesn't the Verizon Touch Pro 2 have the power button on top like all the other ones?

Yeah that's true. It works differently for the Verizon TP2 just as the guy above me has mentioned.

You should have given this post a different name, along the lines of " hardware button issues " or something like that. You might have gotten more feedback from the community.
I got mine a couple of weeks ago (at&t branded tilt 2) and it's pretty damn solid. My Business partner has had the telus world phone version for a little while now and no problems there, as well my friend bought one of the European models (htc branded Touch Pro II) a while back and he has no issues with his.
The battery thing is definitely normal, my tilt II barely survives a day. Seven day's is ridiculous.

That is how they all are. The top button puts the phone to sleep like any other phone. Turning the phone off actually turns it off, no incoming calls or messages.

That's weird that Verizon uses the End Key to power the phone on and off.
The Tilt 2 has it as Silence, which is what every single HTC phone I've used in the past, despite carrier, has had it as.
I don't think anyone should realistically expect this phone to last more than a day unless it's used for nothing but text messaging and an occasional phone call (let's face it, there are people who SHOULD have a dumbphone texter like a Rumor2 but insist on having this phone because it's great looking and expensive). Smartphones, in general, last 24 hours and should be charged when you get home. I mean it's a miracle if my Palm Pre can last two days.
Until battery technology catches up I advise getting really friendly with your charger and/or dock

that is not the way they all are. I have a TMoUSA TP2 and the top button is clearly marked power and if you hold it pressed it will turn the device off. If you just tap it it will, as you say, put the phone to "sleep". (Turn the screen off). BTW I have no problems with any buttons so far and going on two months. None of my previous HTC devicces gave me trouble either.

Button Problems and First Root Ever

Hi, Everyone! This is my first post on here but I have spent the better part of the last week reading all the different threads. Yesterday my Samsung Epic 4G decided to go a little insane on me. It was working eprfectly fine (especially for a 2 year old phone) when all of a sudden my power button seemed to start cyling and the power off screen kept popping up and the volume keys did the same. I turned the phone off and even tried taking the battery out and giving it a rest but the problem persisted.
Another issue was that some of the numbers no longer worked correctly. The even numbers both on the touch screen and keypad would dial
"2468" instead of the corresponding number; very weird! The phone had never been rooted or modded at all. Well I was able to get into the phone after figuring out a way to input my passcode with the faulty numbers and I performed a hard reset. The phone is back to completely stock but the power button and camera button do nothing. The volume up button works well but the volume down (besides lowring the volume) button causes google search to pop up and then a bunch of letters and numbers to be typed in both the google search bar and in the message of box of the last person I texted. I can still use the phone by opening the key pad to wake the screen up and I can text and call fine as long as I don't touch the Volume Down button. Also, battery life is ridicolously low. I am up for upgrade but don;t really feel like upgrading to the S3 just yet. Sorry for the long post. I know it is against forum policy but I wanted to get the whole story out there. So here is what I am looking to do:
I want to root the phone and install one of the roms to maybe eek out a couple more weeks out of it. Again it works ok now, just the sliding out of the keypad and lack of power button sucks. The phone boots up if I take the battery out and put it back in wihtout touching the power button.
I have read up on Odin and that looks somewhat straightforward. Just trying to see what you think is my best course of action. Again, I do not have a power button working or camera button and a faulty Volume Down Button. Maybe I can do the whole slip in the battery while holding "1" to get it into download mode? This will be my first time rooting a phone so any help is great and appreciated. Thanks and again, sorry for the really long post!

I forgot to mention that the phone is currently running on Gingerbread 2.3.6. This may or may not make it more difficult to root.

Did the phone get wet at all? Use it in the rain?

was thinking this as well

It actually got wet about 1.5 years. I threw it in rice for about a week and never had any issues. The phone has never frozen or had issues the past year and a half. Yesterday it was in the kitchen charging (with a samsung charger but not one for this phone specifically) and it started doing the whole power button/power off screen flashing. I was able to get it in download mode earlier today but i don't know about recovery mode since the power button is dead. Maybe I should root it to see if its a hardware issue?
Edit: I forgot to mention that the phone gets really really hot while charging as well in the area above the battery. Hopefully nothing short-circuited.

It could take a while before the corrosin gets bad enough to affect your phone. I dropped a phone in the toilet once, and it was over 2 years before it crapped out. Took it apart and it looked like an old Chevy wheel well inside.

That is a good point. I never thought of that. It was also in the kitchen which was humid and hot as ever yesterday. Do you think any kind of root or rom could help me squeeze a little bit of life out of my old phone.

So I left the phone alone for a couple days with the battery out. I go to turn it on today and it worked perfectly. Then after about 5 minutes the power button stopped working again, but everything else is ok. No random letters and numbers and the volume buttons work as well. Now, I'm kind of lost as to what to do. I do have a parts phone, same one as this. Maybe I need to replace the power button? It clicks and everything and even worked for a couple minutes but now is non-functional again.

Anyone else saved by the "Detached Pen" alert?

I saw a post where someone called the missing pen alert a gimmick. Well the "gimmick" saved me a problem tonight. I was leaving the Vet's office with my dog pulling on the leash and dropped the phone. Thank goodness no damage, I just popped the battery cover back on and all appeared good. I was out the door when I got a beep-beep. Looked at the phone and got the Detached Pen message. I went back in and found the pen under a pet supply display 5 feet from where I dropped the phone. The thing is; It was late, I had a busy evening planned and was rushing to get places with no time to play with the phone. I would not have used the pen again until tomorrow at the earliest. Assuming it hadn't been swept up by the cleaning crew by then I doubt I would have thought to look at the Vet's office anyway. The gimmick saved me the replacement cost plus loss of use. This is my first Samsung and I'm impressed with how well thought out the device is. Good by HTC, I enjoyed our time together but I have found a new and better love.

Glad it saved you! It does work but it is just not as "techy" as it could be... It saved you this time but might not rely on it in the future as it is hit and miss for a lot of people, but I have left my stylus on my couch and it's went off a few times on me... Saved me from walking a longer distance! LOL

For some reason this feature doesn't work for me. I can take out the pen and walk around without it and it never alerts me.

Myself neither. Ensured it's enabled in the settings menu then tested by walking down the hall of my building and back with it in my office.

It was not working for me but after reading some other posts on the forum. .. It was said you need to not only ensure the feature for the alert is on. .. but the screen needs to be sleeping as well. .. tried it just now and it works fine for me ...I tried it earlier with the screen not sleeping and no alert. ..so confirmed the screen needs to be in stand by mode and not on.

I guess thats because you can already see in the notification bar the "S-Pen detached" notification when the screen is on.

I also thought it was a gimmick. I left my S pen on my table and walked around the room steadily holding my phone waiting for an alert. Nothing. Then I read in a thread here that holding the phone steady in your hand testing the feature doesn't really work. Holding the phone steady doesn't simulate "walking movement" it is as if your are sitting there with your phone in hand with your pen resting on your desk. The phone needs to jostle a little (my words) to activate the alert. I tested with a little "jostling" and it worked just fine.

Wife and I debating whether to introduce the kiddos to IronMan tonight and not sure how long it was - bring up my wrist to wake the 360, "Ok Google, how long is the ironman movie, " 4 seconds later on screen: '126 minutes' with a pic of Ironman in the background. Wow. Wife hadn't even finished picking up her phone yet! That was just cool
I haven't had this much fun with a device since my Nexus One[emoji12]

THIS is what a smartwatch is for. It's sad to see so many people saying they're useless. It's just the opposite - as features in Android wear grow, so do the possibilities.
I just got my 360 two days ago and I'm already in love with it. As with many the initial setup was a headache with the battery dying during the update, but since then smooth sailing.
I'm seriously considering getting the Moto Hint too, when it comes out. This will be the PERFECT marriage for the 360. Then I'll rarely need to take out my phone at all while I'm on the go!
By the way, to search even quicker, after you bring the watch up to view, instead of saying ok google, just tap the screen.

I kinda had the same thing:
I was driving, wanted to know what time it would get dark, because I had some stuff to do in the yard. I have an app on my phone that tells me, but that's too much work.
I tap my screen "What time is sunset?". Wife next to me responds "I don't know", not realizing I wasn't asking her. A few seconds later I get response from Google telling me the exact time.
That's exactly what a smart watch is good for. I have a big ass Note3 and I love the screen size for surfing, typing emails etc , but for these quick things it's too much work to dig it out of your pockets.

that's the one great things of Google now
unfortunately it doesn't work well with a accent like my dutch, but can't wait to buy it here.

I'm Dutch, moved to the US about 6 years ago. I guess I don't sound that Dutchy anymore. Google Now has no problems understanding me

My first "Wow!" moment was when I found out that I can pause/play a movie playing on my chromecast (provided it was started from my phone). Prior to that, pausing a movie meant digging out my phone, turning it on, and (if for some reason, the controls weren't available on the lockscreen, which for some reason happened quite often) unlocking the phone and pressing pause in Google Play Movies. Now, it's a flick of the wrist and a quick tap. Soooo nice!

For me its setting timers. I have two kids and unless a timer is set, chores take forever. If they aren't done before the timer is over, a toy is taken away, privilege is lost, etc. The moto 360 makes that effortless. Music control is nice as is chromecast control. I hope roku makes an app. The remote tends to get lost around here.

That was my first wow moment too (with lg g watch unfortunately lol)
But now it makes me wish they would give you more than just a pause button, can't they add rewind/fast forward and volume too?! That would be awesome.

If you actually open the card (small up-swipe), you can then left-swipe for FF/REW options.

I don't get that on mine, at least not for controlling Netflix through the Chromecast. Maybe it works for google play movies.

My 1st WOW moment, took some setup work but totally worth it! I have had my phone setup to control my home automation lights, gas fireplaces, garagedoor, etc by using voice commands for well over a year. Never really found it that practical to use daily since my corporate email requires a screen lock (i know there are ways around this). But there were still too many swipes and presses to get to the autovoice app compared to standing up and walking over the to wall switch. I don't have a wow moment, but i was in a radio shack store to buy an lg g3, (sale person didn't know they have it for sale.) So when i asked him to lookout in the computer for the g3, the repair tech came by and hear the conversation, he told me that in effect they have it 32gb lg g3 for sale. He suddenly view my moto 360 on my wrist and they guy went crazy (funny guy). He yelled at me, "You have the moto 360, how you go it, where you buy it, i tried to buy on moto site on launch day but failed. Man i hate you, don't ever talk to me again". LOL He was too funny, i show him the watch, after playing with it he offered me $300, i declined jajaj

[Q] Moto 360 not waking on wrist turn

Hey guys I recently bought my moto 360 and love it! The only problem I'm currently experiencing is that the watch face no longer wakes when I turn my wrist to look at the watch. This is extremely annoying because I want to be able to have more functionality with just one hand. Other than that the watch works perfectly. I've even been getting 16 hrs+ battery life on average. I tried looking through the settings to see if there was an option to change the wake settings but there are none. I don't see any other forums or anyone else posting about this issue so if you've had this issue please let me know what you did to fix this. ThankS!!

That started happening to me after the most recent update. Battery life improved by a few hours but then the wrist turn stopped being reliable

Since battery life is a bit more reliable, have you tried going with Ambient Mode again? While it admittedly doesn't last as long on as off, it does result in much more 'reactive' wrist turns to tell the time more quickly and repeatedly.

mine's a bit odd. Wakes fine normally, but when I mute notifications, it doesn't wake the screen unless I really move my wrist in an obvious way.

I actually got it to work now. The problem was going on when I had the keislertech stainless steel band on it. I switch the band with the leather one and the watch started waking every time I turned my wrist. I'm guessing the steel band was interfering with the accelerometers considering they use electromagnets.

Im still having this problem. And im only using the leather band. Any fix? Yesterday was working fine when i was driving to work then i noticed at work when i twisted my wrist nothing happened.

Try more of a 'flick' with your wrist than a 'turn' with your wrist.

I too am having this issue. I just did a complete factory reset on the device, still no luck. I was worried my gryoscope may be busted, but it seems to be working at least by using a testing app I found, though I am not sure how reliable that is.
No matter how hard I flick my wrist, the screen won't come on. What's more, putting it in Ambient mode will show the black and white screen for 1 second, then the screen turns off, as if the device was face down.
Quite honestly, I think it may be a busted Gryoscope, which would suck, so I'm going to test a few more things and see.

Factory Reset with no apps installed didn't help. Called Motorola, they are shipping me a new device.
Can't think of it being anything other than a busted Gyro that always points down.
Question for the OP, at any time did you use the latest Nexus QI charger to charge your device? Doubt that has anything to do with it, but want to know just in case.

Nothing was done to fix it, it just randomly started working Saturday night. The sensor test I mentioned earlier is showing full functionality now.

Candidly, you're probably smart to do so. Tech being what it is, often times you get a device with bugged hardware. Let us know how the replacement works out for you.

Same problem here... Seems to have a link with aftermarket QI charger. The first time I've put it on the charger pad the screen flipped upside down. Since then, no waking up from wrist movement and even on the original charger it's showing upside down.
I don't know what to do !!!
This is my second watch i had a crack on the first one taking it out of the box I don't want to wait another week to get a replacement !

Came back to normal without any reasons... oh well....

my moto 360 also doesn't wake anymore, but also not when i tap it
if i tap and hold, i feel the vibration that shows up to change the watch face and when i click the side button you see this menu before it goes back to the clock

Wow, this just started happening to me too! I was hoping to find the solution in this thread, so I hope this isn't a sign of universal hardware failure!

Got mine working again. If you haven't already tried, open android wear app on your phone, then toggle the setting "tilt to wake screen" a few times (make sure it ends up ON however). Also, on your watch, make sure theatre mode is off.

I was having the same problem. It was theater mode. Somehow it was turned on,I turned it off and now the wake function works again.

Mine stopped working too a few days ago. I toggled 'tilt to wake screen' in the wear app and it started working again.
