I saw a post where someone called the missing pen alert a gimmick. Well the "gimmick" saved me a problem tonight. I was leaving the Vet's office with my dog pulling on the leash and dropped the phone. Thank goodness no damage, I just popped the battery cover back on and all appeared good. I was out the door when I got a beep-beep. Looked at the phone and got the Detached Pen message. I went back in and found the pen under a pet supply display 5 feet from where I dropped the phone. The thing is; It was late, I had a busy evening planned and was rushing to get places with no time to play with the phone. I would not have used the pen again until tomorrow at the earliest. Assuming it hadn't been swept up by the cleaning crew by then I doubt I would have thought to look at the Vet's office anyway. The gimmick saved me the replacement cost plus loss of use. This is my first Samsung and I'm impressed with how well thought out the device is. Good by HTC, I enjoyed our time together but I have found a new and better love.

Glad it saved you! It does work but it is just not as "techy" as it could be... It saved you this time but might not rely on it in the future as it is hit and miss for a lot of people, but I have left my stylus on my couch and it's went off a few times on me... Saved me from walking a longer distance! LOL
yeah ignore all those fools who call this a gimmick. how is this a gimmick
For some reason this feature doesn't work for me. I can take out the pen and walk around without it and it never alerts me.

Myself neither. Ensured it's enabled in the settings menu then tested by walking down the hall of my building and back with it in my office.
It was not working for me but after reading some other posts on the forum. .. It was said you need to not only ensure the feature for the alert is on. .. but the screen needs to be sleeping as well. .. tried it just now and it works fine for me ...I tried it earlier with the screen not sleeping and no alert. ..so confirmed the screen needs to be in stand by mode and not on.

that was the key! Thankyou

I guess thats because you can already see in the notification bar the "S-Pen detached" notification when the screen is on.

I also thought it was a gimmick. I left my S pen on my table and walked around the room steadily holding my phone waiting for an alert. Nothing. Then I read in a thread here that holding the phone steady in your hand testing the feature doesn't really work. Holding the phone steady doesn't simulate "walking movement" it is as if your are sitting there with your phone in hand with your pen resting on your desk. The phone needs to jostle a little (my words) to activate the alert. I tested with a little "jostling" and it worked just fine.

Yesterday I was taking a shower and I had my phone laying on my towel awaiting a vibrating noise "since my sound doesn't work" to which was a important phone call. I heard it go off and I unfortunately was in the middle of washing my hair with shampoo rushing down my head to violently rape my eyes, I instantly shriek and wave my arms violently. Thus the nexus flies in the air making a horrible smack onto the tub spilling out the battery. Now I'm battling the shampoo sting and anger towards myself for this stupidity of an act. (It took on major amounts water) I dry off both parts and rush it to the living room/kitchen. The rice thing didn't come to my head yet so I initially try to boot it up and low and behold it does.. But it had issues.
The boot up took almost 2 minutes on the Google Logo. Afterwards it booted but with a wonky screen. Touch didn't work and the screen was flickering. (It started making machinery noises, clicking etc.) I deboot it and then try to boot it back up. Nothing came up. It was dead. No sign of life was in my Nexus eyes. So eventually I remember the rice trick and set it up to till I woke up and did some things. It brought my nexus from the dead however not without some issues. It brought back my sound which has been gone for almost 6 months. However I think my camera is dead. I tried launching various camera apps and none of them will let the camera boot. It always says reboot the phone.
I haven't noticed anything else major as of now but I'm still hoping its only the camera. So the question in asking is could a spill of this magnitude cause damage to the camera rendering it useless?
Thanks in advance and I hope you enjoyed to story

First of all.... booting it right after being soaked with water was the dumbest thing you could have ever done. You put it in rice and wait about a week or so to let all the moisture dry out. Turning it on while it's wet causes shortages along the circuit board. You're lucky it still even works. I don't think your camera is dead, rather a malfunction with the main board. I doubt replacing the camera will solve the issue.

I understand that but filled with adrenaline, anger and to mention I had a panic attack in the shower earlier. I just wasn't thinking.
Thanks for the camera answer though!

I actually have another question if someone might know the answer.
While my sound came back I never thought of testing media and instead tested call. So my ringer etc. Works but none of the media sound. I did turn on media. I switched it from low to high to low, checked mute etc. And nothing. Is there a reason to this or am I simply missing a sound option muting my media?

Hey guys, dropped my note about 6 days. I was in the shower, and dropped it. I know, I know. I always do it though to listen to music, and it's always in a plastic bag. But on that day, I guess I didn't close the bag properly, and it feel out. The bathtub was drained though, it was a little water. It was still on and working(expect the volume kept going up and down on it's own). I took out the battery, dried it and turned it back on right away(Mistake number 2). Well, it didn't turn on. Now it's day 6.
What I've done so far:
1) Put it in a bag of rice
2) Took it apart and cleaned it with 99% alcohol.
3) Dried it with a heater
4) Let it sit for 2 days
Still nothing. I'm assuming that my board is fried, since I took the battery out, and it works in my brothers Note 2, but not in mine. It doesn't charge or anything. Is there any way for me to find a replacement board online? I tried etradesupply(I'm in Canada) but they don't have the PCB part(I think). And or anything else I can try?
Thanks.
Edit: Oh God. Let me guess, the most expensive part about the smartphone is the mainboard itself...FML. Alternatives to try? :/
I would suggest a replacement device...
It seems that once they get taken apart....they never work the same again....
Your call of course...

SENT FROM MY SAMMY TO YOUR? EYES USING TAPTALK
UHey gang,
About a week ago I got ****-faced and woke up the next morning to find my beloved S Pen was lost. Every now and then, my phone is still delivering the S Pen detached message to me. It might just be in my head but I feel like 90% of the time that I get the message is in one particular spot in my apartment. Is it possible that the phone is trying to tell me that S Pen is nearby, or am I just crazy?
Thanks in advance!
P.s. I'm aware that there is an option to turn the message off.
UPDATE:
So here's the deal for anyone who's interested. First off, I have found no definitive information anywhere on the internet so far regarding whether or not the Note 4 will detect a lost S Pen, or more specifically, an S Pen that has been lost for a day or longer, and "notify" you of its potential presence by displaying the S Pen Detached message, sometimes even 3 or 4 separate times in about a minute or 2 (in my experience, at least).
I did not find my S Pen in the area of my apartment where the message seemed to be displaying itself most frequently. What I did find in that area of my apartment, on the table (which in and of itself, as well as the space under it and the chair I sit in, make up the majority of this "area" of my place) hiding under a few random pieces of paper, was the baggie of extra S Pen tips that came with the phone. When I got the phone, I didn't know at the time what the heck was in the baggie, assumed it was put in there by mistake, and carelessly tossed it aside, where it eventually became covered by some random papers and sat idly, from the day I got the phone. Which poses another question in the midst of this conundrum. Could the baggie of extra S pen tips alone have somehow been being detected by my phone, causing the S Pen Detached message to display itself, sporadically I might add, as I rose and walked away from said table? The reason I say sporadically is because it wasn't happening anytime near every time I got up from the table and walked away. Less than 30% of the time, I dare say.
Alas, two days ago my beloved S Pen was found stuck in the passenger seat of my Ford F-150, while I was searching for a business card to give to someone else. In case your interested, I did find a stray business card, but it was half covered in dirt, I decided to give it the person anyway (apologizing for having only a dirt encrusted card, of course), they haven't called.
Anyway, I know i didn't mention this earlier, only really for the sake of keeping my query concise, but if there was any place other than that spot in my apartment that I noticed the S Pen Detached message displaying itself more frequently than anywhere else, it was certainly whilst exiting my car. Again, this could all be in my head, but I think I'm onto something here.
Verdict: Inconclusive. Just do the best you can not to lose the damn S Pen. And if it is lost, do the best you can not to lose hope!
OMG find it. It's possible it's near by. Don't buy the one from ebay if you get a new one, there absolutely fake. There made by wacom and a dealer only item.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yea I'm pretty sure if that warning goes off it means the pen is nearby. Keep looking, the pen is made by Wacom like sandman said so you would have to contact Samsung to ship you a new pen from wacom if that's even possible.
So in the thread "how's battery life? Any overheating?", Zeljko suggested I start a thread so here it. This will be a long term type test. Itll basiclly run till I either a. Get a new phone or b. Bust this one to peices.
So lets start with a basic run down. I buy my phones outright, I use them on Verizon's prepaid service. I've used a Motorola since the original Droid x and am very biased. I've used an xt1080(maxx 1)for the past few years.
From the battery life thread, which you can read if you please, I got a Moto Tubro 2(which i will refer to as a t2) a few days after launch. I believe I got a defective device battery wise. Which I did, after retiring that one and grabbing new one ****s been cash.
Now I am incredibly rough on phones, and absoulty hate cases. I work in construction and am 22 years old, so i do tend to drink quite frequently. And as we all know accidents happen. So let's start with my personal t2. It's a 32gb, grey ballstic nylon version. This is my last few weeks of use.
I got my new t2, it runs great, a little hot at times but that's it. Battery life as I expected. I can get almost 48 hours out of it but with only about 3 hours of sot or Nearly 7 sot hours of hevay use if i use it all day. That's a baseline, will see how much worse it may get. I have also to yet play with any settings, except disabling NFL mobile and Google services background data. I also run a few battery tough apps. The phone still to this day has the out of the box wallpaper
So let me set down some ground rules, I will only charge the device with the charger from the box, no other(I've always been strict with my self about that). The first few weeks I tried to stretch it. Now I plug it in before bed.
Well move forward with what this t2 has been through over the weeks I've had my hands on it. It's had 2 full beers spilled on it. And it works perfectly fine, a bit sticky, no display, speaker or camera issues. The volume rocker seems to be a bit hard to push from that, but that's it, an easy fix honestly. It was thrown at a wall full force in a drunken rage, due to the first beer spilled on it. It was stuck in the sheetrock of my buddy's living room. It's also been dropped on pavement and hardwood floor many times.
So here's some pictures of it, the display is very well already scratched, which I'll ride out till I cant see it, and there is a very clear black stain on the nylon. I even spilled more beer on it last night. Itll be hard to get pictures seeing as I need another person's phone, and this thread might not be the most common updated thread but it will be updated.
Any questions fire away.
Thx for starting torture test. Please continue and I'm sorry for pure phone
So you felt the best idea after accidentally spilling a beer on your phone was to throw it through a wall? Not to clean it off? Lol, also how are you getting 7 hours of SOT? I find that hard to believe since I'm struggling to get 5. I couldn't even get 7 hours SOT on the OG Turbo.
You can replace the plastic top screen, it's about $30, put one of the flexible glass Verizon protectors on top of it and it should be a little more scratch proof. I usually hate screen protectors because of the drag on them, this one doesn't have that problem.
Perhaps you should squirrel away the money intended for your next phone and apply it to an anger management class.
Yep 7 hours. And throwing it at a wall, I was just god awful pissed that it got beer on it. Here's a full day of use from last week. No major settings played with. Swear up and down .
I know the stock protector is replacable, I'm not to worried.

No scratched on the screenshot
I must say, I was skeptical of the 7 hours SOT also, that is until last night when I hit it with relative ease. and 30%+ battery to spare. This was a first for me, usually I had been getting 4-5 with 30% remaining.

What did you change to get over 7h? With 36% left you may reach 10h.
This is all I have to say. I disabled/uninstalled all bloat this time around.

I do not have Google now enabled and I accidentally turned off location from the quick drop down while messing with Bluetooth. The main thing though is that the brightness was set at 5-10% for most of the day. I have tasker profiles to dim screen while indoors and auto while not connected to home/work networks.
I could have hit 10. I was curious to see how far I could go, but had already spent a few consecutive hours on it.

And yes zeljko, I saw that a few weeks ago its amazing.
A small update, I dropped my phone the other night in accident trying to put it in my pocket. I missed the pocket and it fell 1 story onto hardwood floor. A new scratch on. The screen but that's all. No other issues
I think we both have more or less the same usage of our phones. This is my 2nd t2, the first one still works but is destroyed visually from showing of the durability of the screen. Stepping and jumping on it is not advised.
I had oneplus 2 before this one and the UI speed is a huge difference. It demolishes any other 810 phone I've had.
Overall very happy with performance and battery. I use lux to get same sot as op, and you will need an extra layer to avoid scratches even after the first day, the front screen layer may take on drops but not your finger nail.
Happy Xmas!
Update! Like I said it won't be the most updated but will be overtime. So the t2 has been through quite a lot here now. The frame is pretty smashed up from several horrible drops and the display has many more scratches. Can't get photos at the time but I will as some point. There is also some crusty substance in the speaker that makes no sound. Haven't felt the need to get it out.
Some hardware is damaged in the device though. Colors on the display do so.e starve things. But only certain colors, mostly on the browser. I can't even get a screen shot for you guys, seeing as screen shots don't show it. The phone still works fine, still get a little less then 7 hours on screen.
The colors strange colors I have adjusted to and it no longer bothers me. I'll try to get some more pictures soon. Beside that everything else is great.
Another quick update. Another night of drinking last night at a buddies I wake up to one dead pixel in the bottom right of the screen.
I also noticed using the phone outside(now that it's cold) the funny colors go away. Imo the 810 is having some heat issues. Device has been running very very warm for a few weeks now, it still runs fine. Just a bit warm for my taste.
Ps not running any battery/temp apps.
Just figured out (check topic subject) that you don't have Turbo 2, Tubro 2 instead
Hey!!! I want a Tubro 2!!! Where can I get one!!!

Closest Verizon or Best buy?
Guys, I need help.
My One M8 finally gave in-or so i thought. After the volume rocker failing and falling off, and both cameras failing I started looking for a new phone.
Then the power button died.
So now, the phone semi-functions, at least it is usable for a backup for the time being. But, since i dont have any buttons, i cant get the phone to open.
Does the phone automatically boot itself when charge reaches 100%? If not, is there a way i can get this phone to open, I will get it repaired but i doubt it'll be done without the repairs formattiong the phone, which wont make sense...
Thanks!

No, why would it do that? Some folks like to charge it overnight, with the phone powered off; and not want it coming on for no reason in the middle of the night.
I don't think there is a way to power on, without the power button.
nice!
i just realized my sd cart got bent too-i think i have to say goodbye to all the stuff on that phone :I
the S7 seems like a nice phone

That poor phone...
What did you do to it!?
I dont treat my phones well after a certain point, with that point being a single scratch or dent or something.
I was doing an experiment, and i spilled motor oil (castrol edge 5W-40 if anyones interested) and it stained my case, and from that day on I didnt use the phone with a case. i forgot the phone on the table during a flash summer rain-front camera destroyed, rear camera i have no clue how it went out lol
it was like new for a year and a half though... ;P

You should be regularly backing up your data then (many good solutions around). Really, everyone should. Wondering how to get data after the phone after its broken, is too late.
I never store anything important on internal storage. One day it will be inaccessible.
I feel sorry for your abused phone.
eh, its nothing too "important" just pictures that i received on whatsapp. rest were on my dropbox.
i got a silver S7, so i guess this thread can be closed.
I also looked into what I could do, turns out the power button is built in to the daughterboard. thankfully, i found and ordered one for $38, hope it'll at least work enough for me to get the data off it!
