Porting the HTC One keyboard as a installable APK also for qHD screens and non HTC devices?
I would like to use the occasion to motivate skilled developers for this cause. No doubt we all have demonstrated ability to donate when the results hit the forums.

Ability to install the HTC IME apk on an android device that runs Android 4.4
Screen resolution qHD 540x960 - 240 ppi (HDPI)
The HTC keyboard had been released as separate App on the Play Store, unfortunately only usable for HTC devices. (http://www.gizmobolt.com/community/thread/download-htc-sense-input-keyboard-apk-version-6-2-795212/)
I think this keyboard is pretty useful also on other devices.
What is so good on all HTC keyboards?
- the hide keyboard button
- the arrows allowing the precise placement of the cursor on the text. Especially useful on today's big screen devices, as placing a cursor within a sentence with the finger is far from precise.

HTC keyboard will never work on non HTC devices without sense framework. Only solution for this is to port sense framework to your device(which is almost impossible without any errors) or install swift keyboard for free in which you can install themes which look like htc keyboard

Thanks for the info!
Found a handful of alternative keyboard apps. Which may do the job.
I think one had the HTC themed keyboard smart keyboard, which according to the ad can have arrows added.
Well I wanted to switch from a current HTC device to a newer smartphone that has equal parameters but is more wisely priced. HTC
has pretty good design, metal surfaces etc. But this is an area where devices have a lifetime of about 2 years to become absolute obsolete, and 6 months to loose actuality, tech advantage.
I think it is insane to cash out +600 Euro for such a device again.
Though I am pretty thankful to the community for being so heplful and informative. I initiated 2 years ago the development of "Button Savior", Kiumiu then developed a pretty good App, that was and still is very useful for the HTC HD2 running android.

This is my first skin for Wisbar Advance Desktop, and I think it's pretty good... The white circle at the bottom is an on-screen scroll wheel, sort of like an iPod, to make on screen navigation easier and quicker. The Windows Icon launches the programs list (i.e. start menu). It also features a new start menu almost identical to beta versions of Windows Mobile 6.5, as well as a sort of TouchFlo 3D-esque interface. I will be releasing it along with a new website later this month, as I still have a few things left to do on both the website (giovani-design.com), and the software. I promise it's gonna be sweet though! Anyway tell me what you think and hopefully I'll be releasing it soon!

it seems good. i wana try.
From where i can download the theme ?
thankss
why are the picture such high resolution?
dont want to say that it is a fake, but the device has only a wvga-res...
The images aren't screen shots, they are mock-ups made in photoshop. The sofware isn't done yet but it will look exactly the same as it does in the pictures (just not as high res).
Well I hope it's fast and fluent the res is important but when there are glitches it's a big turn off for me .I prefer speed that's useful in everyday useage and if it's bug free that will be my new WAD UI for sure.Hope it works as great as it looks keep up the good work if you need testing I volunteer right away.
I am optimizing it for the Touch HD, and it should run very smoothly. I am still working on it and so far there haven't been any problems. I will be posting the website soon, but the software will not be available for at least another month. But I would be more than happy to let you beta test it, once it's in the finishing stages. I'm in school right now so I have a limited time to work on it, otherwise it would be done by now
Hail SILLWANDERZ!
FANTASTIC!!
Please release this soon..
Keep up the great work..
UI
How do you create your own UI like yourself?
First off I appologize if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know where to start this thread as both the Topaz and Rhodium have a similar zoom bar above the hard keys, there may be other devices too so it would be great if we could develop such an application to work on all these devices which feature a pretty useless zoombar.
I used to own a Touch Pro (Raphael) and evolved to a new Touch Pro2 (Rhodium), the one thing I miss the most (besides the camera LED) is the D-Pad and Enter button.... when the phone is in portrait mode.
I think this image describes my idea pretty well:

I have no programming skills so I am seeking the great help of all the developers here on XDA. I hope some of you like my idea and post comments and hopefully someone will try and develop this for us to use.
It should have 5 main functions, slide Left, slide Right, tap Up, tap Down, & tap Enter.
What do you think?
im in the same boat, id love to see this come to life.
for the HTC Diamond its possible so it must be possible on this to !!
i'm all for it! i still cant understand the idea that htc had to remove the dpad! :S
anyone working on this?
while i get a touch diamond 2 for chrismas and my father owning a rhodium, we both would be amazed by this mod!

THIS WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME/AMAZING/BAD ASS!!!! I really like the idea of it and how its shown in the pics on the actual touch pro2.. this def. needs to be developed cause it would be WOW!!
anyone have anything?
still waiting for a developer to see this

i moved from the ppc 6700 apache witht ehexcelent joystick my wife had the mogul and now the touch pro with the dpad. I have the tp2 rhodium and that and the flash are the things i miss most. i actuaqlly did not want to upgrade from the apache to the tp2because the lack of the joystick. for a while itried everything and have given up and just got used to it the way it is. I still miss the one handed contro for reading articles on the web and making phone calls as well moving the cursor to where i wanted it. I sometimes am forced to open the keyboard and use the arrow keys. I used the rhodium keyboard control to assign the up down volume control and the power button as well as the mute button on the back but did not end up using it. i had tap double tap triple tap and press and hold. i tried the actual dpad on the screen but that didnt work for me. the other one that use the zoom control i didnt like becasue you had to slide this one looks much better and looks like it might work. i would be willing to donate to a developer who can make it happen
Believe it or not those ugly arrow keys that come with our stock evo's keyboard could finally come in handy!!
As some of you may know, adobe's mobile flash only works with games with touch input, and not keyboard input (i believe).
I'm trying to find an efficient and non-obtrusive way to fix that!
Here's what I figured. We managed to chop the arrows out of the original keyboard, leaving us with a stock keyboard minus the arrows.
So what if we did the reverse and then added a couple keys for extra functionality such as enter/return and maybe a few customizable keys such as AB & XY.
See the image below for a thrown-together-in-few-minutes example (imagine without the purple hue and obviously better fitting)

Optimally it would also be transparent (to a degree set in the keyboard preferences).
Though 85-90% opacity oughta do just fine.
A button to quickly switch from arrow keys to WASD would also be nice.
I was thinking a long-press on the keyboard retraction button would be nice and not space-consuming.
I know this is possible, but I hardly have the time or resources to make it a reality.
Thoughts? Flames?
Let's hear em!

I don't get it. How would a soft keyboard with just the arrow keys solve that problem?
Incidentally, AIR for Android (the "Flash as .apk" solution) does allow soft keyboard input, so presumably keyboard support will be added to a future Flash Player release or patch.
In that case, this would be a great idea for phones like the EVO without a D-pad to interact with flash games. Hell, why stop with the SENSE UI hack? Make it look like an SNES controller while you're at it!
great idea
We need this. But I want it for a different reason.
I want it for those small links on web pages. I know its a big screen but sometimes I can't touch where I want.
So if it could have the arrows and maybe an enter button too that would also work on the web pages like a virtual trackball

It solves the problem because most games use the arrow keys or WASD as the controls.
Try playing this game on your phone.
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/59593
But wait, I can't move anywhere!
It's possible to use the controls to move, for example on the original droid you can use the hardware keys.
For some reason the sense keyboard doesn't work, but it can be made to work if the browser believes the input is coming from hardware keys.
The point is, I highly doubt adobe is gonna make us a specialized soft keyboard that only has what's needed for gameplay and nothing more.
Our current keyboards are too big and would cover the screen, which is why we need something that isn't obtrusive and is transparent so we can see everything behind it.
Missing the style that comes with HTC, where a long press gets you the numbers and alt characters (and the characters are shown on the keys).
Is there a way to achieve this easilly on the Arc?
I find myself taking ALOT longer to type stuff that my HTC Legend (which even has a smaller display).

Search SmartKeyboard on the Android market, it's a pretty awesome third party keyboard.
It includes themes such as the official HTC one
You can use htc ime app and its the htc keyboard for all other android phones, you can find it here in xda forum, if not just google it as "htc ime v27" =)

Thanks, bought SmartKeyboard, it's only a couple of quid and works great. Happy bunny now.
It's a shame the Arc has such a lousy keyboard by default. Thankfully Android allows up to change Everything..
PS anyone wanting to not spend money could also look at Go Keyboard (you might need Go Launcher EX, not sure). However I wasn't that impressed with it, it seemed very tailored to asian languages and language swapping, rather than being a simple to use keyboard.
Really liking SE's stock keyboard
Maybe it's because I use it for over a year now / since I have the X10.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Same here, I really prefer the SE Keyboard than the others

Custom skins for Jonasl's HTC_IME high res.
These are signed with the exact same certificate that jonasl uses so if you can install his, you can install these and go back and forth with no problem.
These are no longer flashable update.zip files, all you need to do is download the zip file, extract the HTC_IME_hi.apk to your sd card and install with a file manager (linda, or something that supports reinstalling for future installs).
Special note, if you have not already installed v22 or higher, I highly suggest you read Jonasl's thread here for important information regarding this keyboard. You will need to re-enable and completely reconfigure this keyboard after installing (only if you haven't already done v22+).
One last note, there is a new hi res Clicker.apk available too. I have not included it in these downloads, you will need to get that from the official HTC_IME Mod download if you haven't already! Update: or get it here -> Clicker_hi.zip
v24 links removed because v25 is now available in the kitchen, screenshots represent some of the many themes you can create there!

.....used since my X10.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me a better keyboard replacement for the G4? Things I would like it to have;
Theme-able (Not really a big deal, just nice to have options)
Arrow Keys (My #1 Feature)
Dedicated Number Keys (would be nice, but not a deal breaker)
...That is pretty much it, just really want to have the arrow keys for easier text corrections.
SwiftKey ... No matter what other keyboards I try I always come back to SwiftKey. (and it has everything on your list (and then some) )
Few screen shots for ya

For me, nothing beats Kii. Unfortunately it's no longer available through the app store.
It's all about fleksy!!!! Fastest keyboard in the world, Guinness world record breaker and as well very simple and straightforward
I swear by SwiftKey. No keyboard is perfect, but all of SwiftKey's pros far outweigh any con.
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
SwiftKey for sure!
I like the Google keyboard. Used to be an avid Swiftkey user as well. There are so many you have a ton of options
Just downloaded Fleksy. I was in the bets trial but it seems to have improved a bit. The auto suggest is kinda funky. I am an IT network engineer and throw around lots of acronyms that it doesn't catch. I like the stock android/LG keyboard style where a backspace will revert the autocorrect. Most keyboard apps do not do this (thumbs plus does but I get lots of double letters).
I'll give it a week and see how I like it. The smart punctuation is driving me crazy though.
SwiftKey best keyboard alternative ever!
..Sent from an impeccable LG G4 on Verizon..
100% SwiftKey
Yeah. Has to be SwiftKey for me too. Tried a few others but always come back to it. Very customisable.
Cheers.
Eoin.
Let's throw Swype in here as well My fave keyboard by far :good:
The one thing about Kii that I really can't live without is the customizable auto-change feature in the dictionary, where you can set it to change whatever to whatever. For example, mine is programmed to change "y" to "why", "c" to "see", "r" to "are", "brb" to "be right back", "addr" to my full address, etc. etc. etc. I must have 50-60 shortcuts programmed, easily. Makes for wicked fast typing when you can use all those shortcuts
Well after all the votes for Swiftkey I opted to grab it (and much to my surprise I had already had it before, lol. Must've been on one of my old school HTC devices). Needless to say I am very happy with it as it offers everything I was looking for and then a little bit extra on top.
Thanks for the info guys/gals, I do REALLY appreciate it.
For years I used Smart Keyboard Pro: themeable, shortcuts (as per above), customizable, etc. One of the best features I liked the most is being able to slide/swipe/flick your finger left or right to move the cursor. Not sure how that is not cooked into the stock keyboard as it is such a useful feature.
Is there a way to add the numeric keys to the google keyboard?
