Missing the style that comes with HTC, where a long press gets you the numbers and alt characters (and the characters are shown on the keys).
Is there a way to achieve this easilly on the Arc?
I find myself taking ALOT longer to type stuff that my HTC Legend (which even has a smaller display).

Search SmartKeyboard on the Android market, it's a pretty awesome third party keyboard.
It includes themes such as the official HTC one
You can use htc ime app and its the htc keyboard for all other android phones, you can find it here in xda forum, if not just google it as "htc ime v27" =)

Thanks, bought SmartKeyboard, it's only a couple of quid and works great. Happy bunny now.
It's a shame the Arc has such a lousy keyboard by default. Thankfully Android allows up to change Everything..
PS anyone wanting to not spend money could also look at Go Keyboard (you might need Go Launcher EX, not sure). However I wasn't that impressed with it, it seemed very tailored to asian languages and language swapping, rather than being a simple to use keyboard.
Really liking SE's stock keyboard
Maybe it's because I use it for over a year now / since I have the X10.

Same here, I really prefer the SE Keyboard than the others

Custom skins for Jonasl's HTC_IME high res.
These are signed with the exact same certificate that jonasl uses so if you can install his, you can install these and go back and forth with no problem.
These are no longer flashable update.zip files, all you need to do is download the zip file, extract the HTC_IME_hi.apk to your sd card and install with a file manager (linda, or something that supports reinstalling for future installs).
Special note, if you have not already installed v22 or higher, I highly suggest you read Jonasl's thread here for important information regarding this keyboard. You will need to re-enable and completely reconfigure this keyboard after installing (only if you haven't already done v22+).
One last note, there is a new hi res Clicker.apk available too. I have not included it in these downloads, you will need to get that from the official HTC_IME Mod download if you haven't already! Update: or get it here -> Clicker_hi.zip
v24 links removed because v25 is now available in the kitchen, screenshots represent some of the many themes you can create there!

I have a few onscreen keyboard problems. I was trying to find a better onscreen keyboard. I tried 2 different types of HTC Touch keyboards, one was a "20" key and the other a "12" key. I didn't like either one of them, because they messed up my hardware keyboard on my Hermes/8525. The "XT9" and "abc" would keep running, and would affect any key presses on my hardware KB.
I eventually found PCMKeyboardEN and love it. I uninstalled the 2 Touch KB's and they were completely removed from my PC except for the KB choices popup. So here are my 3 questions.
1. How can I remove the "Touch Keyboard" & "Touch Keypad" from the keyboard choice options popup at the bottom of the screen?
2. While I'm at it, how can i remove the "Block Recognizer" and/or "Letter Recognizer" (I want to keep one, but havent decided which one.
3. Where can I get a "Black Normal Keyboard"? I tried about 5 different ROMs this week. I believe Schaps 4.31 had this Black Keyboard, that was way nicer then the plain white one. Where can I get that black keyboard? I searched all over but couldn't find it.

Thanks so much, both CABs are very useful and I will keep them for the future. I did try some serious searching and found some other "black keyboards" but not this one. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any info about removing keyboards easily. Thanks for taking the time to post a reply.
I am trying to search, but I'm a newcomer here and it's very hard to find some answers...
1) Is it safe to use pockettweak on Polaris? (WM6, original ROM)
2) Will this remove selected SIPs form memory after reboot?
I would like to use PhonePad and PCMkeyboard, but as I have some quite complex SPB stuff in the Today screen, I am not able to use both of those SIPs - only one can be selected and working, but if I select the other one, the default keyboard appears instead. I will NEVER use the the block and letter recognizers, so I would like to uninstall them and free the RAM, but because they are parts of original ROM, they are not in the Remove Programs control panel and I dont know other way to get rid of them.
Thank you very mach for answers!
hey guys,
first of all i have to say that this forum helped me alot, since i am a x1 user now.
my question is:
is there any other layout for the virtual keyboard on the x1. (the one u can use if u want to type in with stick). Somewhere I have seen some modded versions, but cant find the link anymore.
does anybody know about that?
Google "fingerkeyboard 2.1".

I use this one, for me it works fine and it will work with the standard ROM.
Xperia Keyboard
You can find lots of useful CAB's in the ROMs section of Xperia X1. I am currently running Ijte's 5.061 and it works great.

Do you now how to set this keyboard to QWERTZ?
you have to press a button on the left of the keyboard. Cant remember right now 'cause I dont have it installed anymore.
You need to keep the button pressed and a menu should appear...there were somewhere some settings to change the layout/language.
If that wont help, try to change the language in the sip settings
You may like the new layout I've made for FingerKeyboard 2.1 - SoftTouch MaxKey. All the keys are bigger and I do think it improves the typing experience.
Hi,
maybe you can try PocketCM Keyboard 0.14 with the skins pack I made for WVGA here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3577639#post3577639

im experiencing problem while running new gingerbread keyboard.
I'm croatian and prefer qwertz keyboard over qwerty, so while using sense roms i just sticked to Deutschland language settings. I even got specific letters like š and č while long pressing on basic letter (s and c).
In cm7 i started with german language to get qwertz, but specific letters are missing. When i change settings to croatian, which is on the list in cm7, i get keyboard which doesnt show all numbers on long press(they dont even show above letters - see pic). Specific letters are not working as well.
Anyone knows how im supposed to fix this, and whats it all about?

Sense roms are different to non sense roms. Non sense use the stock Google keyboard. You could try to download another keyboard from the market or have a look around in the dev section. But if you looking for something similar to the sense keyboard then I don't know.
thank you for response.
i know about differences between sense and non sense, was just wondering whats wrong with gingerbread keyboard, look at screenshot, it got 1,2,4,5 and 0 only on long press, cant find logic behind that... so thought its bug or something like that
That isn't how it's supposed to be (neither on mine). Try 'MultiLing keyboard' on the market. It's the GB keyboard in a few styles with great fixes (and many languages supported but you must install their dictionaries through the app).

i tried multilang keyboard and i love it, but it doesnt fix the problem for me - there is no croatian language, so i stick with german for now, cos its only one with qwertz...
i did tweet dev about including croatian tho...
thanks for help
i found working solution for myself -> using htc ime mod by Jonasl, i got qwertz again plus all country specific letters i need
in case anyone wants it - its here(you have to install clicker.apk and htc_ime.apk with file manager -> do not flash it), i even added gingerbreadish theme so it fits better in cm7
all credits go to Jonasl for his mod and gIMpSTa for his theme kitchen
it works for me on cm7 nightly, should on oxygen as well
this is how it looks:
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like the color of the new keyboard. It would be great if someone would make a mod to change the color of the keyboard. If I knew how I would, but I'm rather new to the Android modding world.

Choose a different theme. You can already change the keyboard color.
EDIT: In the Personalize Menu.

However, that is dependent on the theme that is active.

YES that is correct, but then you have to use that particular theme. What I would like to do is change the color of the keyboard and keep the default HTC theme.

Go to https://themes.htc.com/ and make your own theme. When making it with maker pro you can set your own keyboard color!
Or you can install a third-party keyboard app like SwiftKey which supports lots of themes too and provides efficient typing. One thing I like about SwiftKey is the simultaneous support for up to 3 languages without having to switch.
It seems a bit of a chew to have to create a whole new theme just to change the keyboard colour. I cannot see how to just copy the default into a new theme and then just change the tiny bits I want to ... any ideas/suggestions on this ? (whilst on the one hand I applaud the ability to create some really detailed theming for those that want to, it does seem to have made what should be a very quick config thing way more complex than it needs to be).
I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me a better keyboard replacement for the G4? Things I would like it to have;
Theme-able (Not really a big deal, just nice to have options)
Arrow Keys (My #1 Feature)
Dedicated Number Keys (would be nice, but not a deal breaker)
...That is pretty much it, just really want to have the arrow keys for easier text corrections.
SwiftKey ... No matter what other keyboards I try I always come back to SwiftKey. (and it has everything on your list (and then some) )
Few screen shots for ya

For me, nothing beats Kii. Unfortunately it's no longer available through the app store.
It's all about fleksy!!!! Fastest keyboard in the world, Guinness world record breaker and as well very simple and straightforward
I swear by SwiftKey. No keyboard is perfect, but all of SwiftKey's pros far outweigh any con.
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
SwiftKey for sure!
I like the Google keyboard. Used to be an avid Swiftkey user as well. There are so many you have a ton of options
Just downloaded Fleksy. I was in the bets trial but it seems to have improved a bit. The auto suggest is kinda funky. I am an IT network engineer and throw around lots of acronyms that it doesn't catch. I like the stock android/LG keyboard style where a backspace will revert the autocorrect. Most keyboard apps do not do this (thumbs plus does but I get lots of double letters).
I'll give it a week and see how I like it. The smart punctuation is driving me crazy though.
SwiftKey best keyboard alternative ever!
..Sent from an impeccable LG G4 on Verizon..
100% SwiftKey
Yeah. Has to be SwiftKey for me too. Tried a few others but always come back to it. Very customisable.
Cheers.
Eoin.
Let's throw Swype in here as well My fave keyboard by far :good:
The one thing about Kii that I really can't live without is the customizable auto-change feature in the dictionary, where you can set it to change whatever to whatever. For example, mine is programmed to change "y" to "why", "c" to "see", "r" to "are", "brb" to "be right back", "addr" to my full address, etc. etc. etc. I must have 50-60 shortcuts programmed, easily. Makes for wicked fast typing when you can use all those shortcuts
Well after all the votes for Swiftkey I opted to grab it (and much to my surprise I had already had it before, lol. Must've been on one of my old school HTC devices). Needless to say I am very happy with it as it offers everything I was looking for and then a little bit extra on top.
Thanks for the info guys/gals, I do REALLY appreciate it.
For years I used Smart Keyboard Pro: themeable, shortcuts (as per above), customizable, etc. One of the best features I liked the most is being able to slide/swipe/flick your finger left or right to move the cursor. Not sure how that is not cooked into the stock keyboard as it is such a useful feature.
Is there a way to add the numeric keys to the google keyboard?
