[Q] Nexus 7 Car Stereo Questions.... (Kernel) - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Okay, so I get it, Timurs kernel is probably the best option for what I am looking for. With that said, I am reaching out to see if there are any free solutions to what I am trying to accomplish before I cave and purchase (after all, why spend 40 dollars if you don't need to)..
I am trying to install my Nexus 7 (2013) (it currently has the ElementalX kernel installed) into my truck as the primary stereo. I have encountered a few problems (kernel related) and wanted to see if there were any solutions besides Timurs...
1. Power issue, I drain really fast when the truck is not on... probably ~20% in 8 hours and when the tablet reboots, it doesn't detect the OTG is plugged in and charging.
2. OTG charging with FastCharge
3. JoyCon functionality. For some weird reason, when I push any of the car steering wheel buttons with the JoyCon, the lights flicker and the the JoyCon stops working. It works fine when I calibrate and when I plug it into the computer.
4. USB DAC (I am thinking about using the Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter, C-Media Chipset.)
So, I need a kernel that can put my tablet in a deep sleep, can support OTG charging, can handle the JoyCon and supports USB audio. Thanks and any help is appreciated.

Not jacking your thread, but yeah, I'm may be mis-understanding something, as I'm having the same issues, but apparently not too many others seem to be having this issue:
So here are my tests to document what I'm getting.
1st attempt: change /sys/module/msm_otg/parameters/usbhost_charge_mode to 1 RESULT: no charge/detects USB HDD/stable
2nd attempt: change /sys/module/msm_otg/parameters/usbhost_charge_mode to 1 AND enable OTGCM=1 in elementalx.conf RESULT no charge/detects USB HDD/stable for about 2 mins and then reboots, repeats..( loops).
3rd attempt: enable OTGCM=1 in elementalx.conf RESULT no charge/detects USB HDD/stable for about 2 mins and then reboots, repeats..( loops).
4th attempt: enable FC=1 in elementalx.conf RESULT no charge/detects USB HDD/stable for about 2 mins and then reboots, repeats..( loops).
So basically I can't get the tablet to charge as long as the hdd is plugged in. I did toy around with plugging the drive in after the boot, and it only charged on attempt 2, and 2 mins after detecting the hdd, the tablet shuts down and reboot loops as described earlier.

Yeah, aside from power, using an HDD is a completely separate set of issues that I haven't even starting looking into. I just want to see what kernel offers the best power options with the least amount of hassle.

1)Don't need Timur's ElementalX is free and has OTG, OTG+charging, and FastCharge.
2) If you want to OTG+charge the N7 you need the OTG-y cable. And then you can only charge no fast charge as the 5th USB pin is already in use for data.
3)Our issues seem to be 5V related. Most suggestion seem to advise on building better OTG-y cable and providing a self-pwred hub, which is what I'm trying next.

ElementalX is an okay kernel, but it doesn't allow deep sleep (or firm sleep, hibernate... whatever you want to call it) and when it reboots, it no longer recognizes the OTG Y cable is there until you unplug it and plug it in again.
The firm sleeping mode is key in car the car stereo hookup. Without it, you will be pulling the dash out every week to charge... (that's what I have to do). Again, I am running CM11 with ElementalX kernel. I have saved a little by dropping to airplane mode whenever I can.

Dead Nexus

Hi,
I've had my Galaxy Nexus 1 hour - didn't bother charging it as I wanted to play and set it up [like I did with every other mobile].
Plugged it into my USB port and my PC recognised it - then 20 seconds later the screen went blank and I've not been able to boot it since...
I've plugged it into the mains and removed battery and tried to reboot - no luck.
What's wrong?
how long did you discharge it for???
if you ran it down to zero, it may take a while before the phone actually shows anything on the screen.

The phone needs to build up a charge before it boots up. And it doesn't actually charge if your using it while it's plugged in via USB because it's low powered.

[TS] Charging

For some reason my KF will only charge when the screen is on... I've tried using 6 different ROM's. Could this be because I'm charging through USB to walljack? I don't have the charger that came with it. Also, no matter what ROM I'm using, USB storage mode won't work.

Did you have the same problem on stock or just on other ROMs?
mine does that because the 3.0 kernel but if i reboot it show that it actually did charge might be your problem but im not sure
it will not charge while completely shutdown but if you go to settings about phone status the device will show charging if not unplug and replug till it says charging when it goes to sleep or standby it should continue to charge pay little attention to the led light its normal with the 3.0 kernel to act strange

[Q] How to fastcharge gt-I9192

I'd really like to have access to USB fastcharge in this phone, but so far I can't get it to work. I tried c0bain's kernel and Amestris kernel and plenty of apps from the store. For example the fastcharge app, they allow me to enable USB fast-charge, but when I plug the cable to the computer, it still tells me it is charging through USB (instead of AC) and the data connection is available.
Anyone got fastcharge to work in this phone? What am I missing?

Use a program to see what amp it charging at. Having data mode doesn't necessary mean it not doing fast charge. If you draw above 400/420mA though your PC USB, you're doing fast charge.
USB 2.0 limit at 500mA
USB 3.0 limit at 900mA
I haven't found a good amp measurement app, it appears that the amp is not actually measured by the phone, so these apps just estimate it and that might not be reliable.
Instead, I used Tasker to save the exact time the percentage of battery level changes, and it is quite obvious that even USB 3.0 is 3 times slower than the AC charger, even though I enable fast charge in the Fast charger app.

USB otg + charging problem

So I'm planning on installing a nexus 7 2013 (FLo) in my car. I've been trying to use timur's kernel for 6.0.1 MOB30X in fi mode, as soon as i disconnect the usb y power my dac turns off and tablet goes in suspend which is the intended behaviour, but the problem is when i connect the power again to the usb y cable, the tablet resumes but my dac doesn't come back on. This also happens with elemental X kernel on the same android version, but i tried cm12.1 with elemental x and it works just like it should, as soon as i connect the power, the usb dac is on. I would use cm12.1, but the standby power usage is a little too high even with tasker profiles, deep sleep and greenify, also the booting up time is around 50seconds so turning it off is not a solution. And that's why i am determined to figure out why i have problems on stock firmware mob30x, but i've been stuck for the past 5 days.
Update: Now fi mode stopped working completely after reinstalling the firmware and kernel, also in non fi mode it seems to work without problems.

Question Reboots when left on charge overnight

I'm having peculiar behavior with frequent reboots on the Fold 3 when it's fully charged and I leave it in a fast charger overnight.
Originally I thought some rogue app or module was misbehaving.
Now I've noticed the reboots only seem to occur when charging. I left it in a high speed charger overnight – it rebooted every cca 40 minutes.
Also, yesterday I had a reboot right after plugging in a powered HDMI monitor hub – before starting Dex. That was a single occurrence – on the charger it keeps rebooting. Tried three different chargers – same behavior.
Now, 6 hours since the morning, not plugged in – no reboot. Can this indicate anything – any ideas anyone?
Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot (simulates pulling the battery).
Has the OS been upgraded without a factory reset afterwards?
It shouldn't be rebooting by itself. A hardware failure seems most likely explanation.
Overheating will cause a auto shutdown but not a reboot. If it's returnable, do so.
Otherwise it will likely need repair service.
Check
Device Care -> 3-dots -> Automation -> Auto restart at set times
I used this to set the phone to reboot at 3am.
