Hi all
just wondering if anyone uses a usb audio dac with their m8? If so which rom/kernel are you running? Some internet research tells me that it works natively with the stock rom, but I'm wondering if anyone has gotten it to work with any AOSP based roms? I tried with CM11 stock kernel and excalibur but it didn't work with my fiio E17 or HRT Microstreamer
Thanks

As you have read in the title, Jacknorris have made a MOD for almost all AOSP based ROMs to enable USB Audio!!!:victory:
Just some things to keep in mind:
1. The mod was made for the Nexus 7 but it works in a lot of OTG enabled devices.
2. The mod was made for 4.1 and 4.2.1 but works with 4.2.2 just fine.
3. The result will depend mostly on the ROM you are running, as an example: for me CM10.1 nightly from 07/09/2013 works but the audio does not get routed back to headphones when the USB DAC is disconnected, in PARANOID works like a charm!
4. Whit this MOD, the infamous and ignored Headphones muted when playing audio+mic remains unchanged in all AOSP based ROMs, I think this is something the ROM devs will have to fix, maybe some day who knows.(i don't know why I was hoping that the MOD could help )
Here is the link for the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029728
WARNING: Always make a NANDROID backup before trying out!!
As for me Paranoid seems the best option, now if only someone could fix the headphones issue the i9300 would almost perfect
Try it and report in the original thread if it worked for you and with what ROM, also don't forget to give thanks to Jacknorris for this awesome MOD.:good:
does anybody know which 4.4 rom currently has MHL support?
I just bought a MHL from newegg and to be honest I dont know if the MHL that is not working or the ROM that does not support it.
Im currently on Carbon 4.4 ROM (1/1/14 build) and it doesnt work for me. Can someone please recommend me a 4.4 ROM that supports MHL?
I've heard the beanstock 4.4 ROM supports MHL, although you may run into heat issues with the slimkat kernel that's included (I think it's overclocked). It's based off of cyanogenmod 10.2 which, although is 4.3, will support MHL if you decide to go that route. Besides that, I haven't seen support in any other 4.4 ROMs unfortunately, but I haven't personally tried any either.
Hi,
I am running SlimKat 6(latest stable release) and BMS 2014-07-01. Anyone else experience this problem when connecting to your car via bluetooth?

I would suggest you try another kernel (or version of that kernel), BT is controlled by it.

BWolf56, thanks for the response! I attempted to run LeanKernel and tried the stock kernel for SlimKat as well. The bluetooth functionality seems to work on a reboot, but it dies if I try to use it again. It might just be the ROM itself.
Thanks!

im using xKat 5.0 with xluco v3 kernel. OTG cable works, but i think for charging it might be a pin issue withing the OTG cable itself. some OTG cables dont carry a two way charge pin, so they can power a usb drive but not be charged through it.

I would like to have a try. Another question , can the original Samsung Rom 4.4.2 be installed into the xluco V3 Kernel?
Or should I maybe install vkat ROM before installing the Kernel ?

You can flash the xluco kernel to the stock rom, the aroma installer for xkat will give you an option to install the xluco kernel.
I really like the boost hans gave to his rom, its based on stock and debloated to an extent.

Could you please take a pic of your otg cable when it's charged
aaa
I know most ROMs are lollipop, and devs are probably focused now on Android M, however I would really like to try some good kitkat ROMs. Reason? need to test performance ?.
so, any good kitkat ROMs that you can recommend, I'd appreciate it... CM preferably but I can also do TW.
cheers!
Me too....I'm running stock 5.0.2 but it doesn't work with usb dacs. I hear the original kitkat 4.4.2 worked great with dacs.
So yeah, any good recommendations for TW kitkat roms. ...or for that matter, any good roms out there at all that support usb dacs?
