Hi there.
I have a problem. I installed a kernel called ElementalX-m8-1.04-GPE.zip.
Now my phone wont display anything other then the HTC logo when turning on the device.
After the logo has disapered. the phone goes dark. I can hear when i touch the display that something happens. (i can hear dial pad sounds).
I can also hold down power and volume down and hear a screen shot sound.
I can restart the phone my holding down power + volume down + volume up.
I wish to enter recovery so i can undo what i just did. Hope someone can help me.
My phone is a brand new HTC one M8... so this sucks.
Yeah, hard situation. I had the same on my Live with Walkman, but I went to a service where they ressurect my phone. Anyway I think you installed a wrong type of kernel that's why you see dark. Can you tell me when you plug usb to your phone and computer is LED on red? When yes, try to charge the battery. I heared that sometimes work
Yeah the light does turn on.
I'll try charging it then.
The computer can see the device btw, if that's any help.
i just tried HTC sync manager. Just to see if i could restore the phone that way. Sync manager can see the phone, but it says somthing about it's not connected properly. So the restore button is grayed out. I can't press it.
Please post to the apropriate forum for your device

Hello everyone,
I received my cousin's phone asking me to see if I can repair it for him. I've tried turning it on and there is the initial vibrate, and thats it. No sound and no display. Nor do the buytons light up. It's like there is no andriod installed at all lol. I have mangead to get it to boot in hboot but again, there is no display. I don't know but could the screen be dead? Is there any advice that may help fix the phone?
I don't even know what firmware it would be running. All I have managed to do it install the HTC Bootloader while trying to root it.
Thanks all in advance
Simon
Go to hboot --> clean storage
if it not works:
did you rooted? if yes, with clockworkmod installed, you can make a hard reset and install other rom
Hello anmnimo95,
Can you tell me how many times I have to press volume - then power button as ike I said, my screen is completely blank, even on hboot mode. It doesnt look like the screen or the front buttons are powering on but the phone itself seems to power up as it vibrates to say its on.
I don't think this phone is rooted but I can't exactly see it as, like i said, screen seems dead

you have to press volume+power pressed at the same time for 3-5 seconds
sorry, i meant as in the hboot menu. I can get into it but i dont know how many time i need to press vol- to get to that option
right.. found the source of the problem. Decided to dig deep into the phone... LCD digitzer and the LCD screen ribbon cables are broken. Going to replace these in the hope that it will work. FINGERS CROSSED!

Can you access the HBOOT?
Don't think so... Pretty much when I put the battery in and press the power button it just flashes dimly.
You need to hold Vol- and then press power.
can you go to hboot this way?
It will not go to hboot. Just flickers again when I try to.
Put the phone on the charger(and keep plugged in) for a few minutes and then try booting.
No luck.. just the same old flickering again
Pull the SIM, microSD and Battery for a few minutes then put back the battery and press power while holding the volume down button.
this won't help. waiting, put in/out/in/out battery and stuff is useless.
If you can not access hboot you can only try to flash the ruu again and if this does not work it's a case of guarantee.
Hold volume up and power after removing the battery. Does it vibrate?
Edit: obviously once you put the battery back in!

How would I flash the ruu again if I can't access hboot or get the device to turn on?
If I hold volume up and power after removing the battery there's no reaction at all, no vibrating or anything a black screen just starts flickering on and off

Please follow these steps very, very carefully to get into HBOOT.
1/. Remove battery for 5 seconds and then re-insert battery.
2/. Press and Hold "Volume Down" button (DO NOT RELEASE).
3/. Press and Hold "Power" button for about 5 seconds until the phone vibrates.
4/. Release both buttons and you should be in HBOOT.
The screen is white with Three Andoids on Skate Boards.
Job Done.
Let us know if this works.
Good Luck.
there's nothing you can do anymore. send it to repair.

I did read.
I believe he did it wrong, hence my reply.
He said he used Volume Up button and I don't think it was explained clearly about the PRESS AND HOLD bit of the sequence.
Just trying to help like a lot of other good people on here.

That's my fault I told him to do volume up so I could see if the phone vibrated to tell us if it were alive.

Have you tried getting a refund. Say something technical to some dumb service dude and they will give you the thing on the spot normally.
If you cant get a new one then theres always eBay to sell it. And if that doesn't work I'm sure somebody would buy it over XDA market.
If all else fails build a little house out of loads of bricked phones if you have lots.
If not just mail it to the UK so I can smash it with a hammer it use it for parts lol.

Since you tried to install an official HTC RUU, HTC will repair your device according to your warranty terms.
Hello guys,
I don't know if anyone have seen this problem but anyway here it is:
A friend of mine gave me his ace 2 that have a totally broken software, this means the phone is not turning on, neither entering download or safe mode. When the phone is plugged into the power outlet there is no battery that appears on the screen. NOTHING at all. When I plug the phone into the PC and press the power on button, the phone does nothing but the PC make this beep sound (when a USB is inserted) and then directly after 2-3 second it makes another beep sound (when USB is removed) and take note that on those 2-3 seconds I did nothing, I just tried to turn the phone on and NOTHING happens. When I retry to press the power button again I can also hear the beeps sounds but still nothing on the screen. I tried to press it for the 3rd time, the same thing happened. Tried to enter download mode, it the same, beep sound then nothing.
When I tried to ask him what have he done he told me that something appeared on the screen (wipe, reset, something similar) and he just clicked yes and ok for everything.
I guess the problem is either that the battery is down and it needs to be changed, or that he completely reset the flash memory of the phone.
Any solution guys? Please help and thanks.
Remove the battery for few seconds and reinsert..
Then try to enter the Download mode...
If it is not working still, then, sorry to say, I think the phone is hard bricked..
I just rooted and S-off my HTC via rumrunner.
No flash roms install or custom recovery installed.
I wanted to see if I still had CWM from my last root (I returned to stock via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216&highlight=s-on.
So I went into the bootloader or fastboot (I don't remember) and hit recovery. This did not send me to a CWM, but it appeared to be the stock version of recovery. The process took too long (I know impatient) so I turned it off via power button + volume down.
Now I come to you in need, my phone is constantly turning off/on only displaying the green htc text, no red text, then pausing for 8 seconds, then off again to black screen. The whole process lasts 12 seconds, and this had been going on for about 10-15 min atm.
Plugging it in, my computer does not have the time to recognize it with adb, or fastboot.
I cannot use the power button + volume down to go into bootloader, and pressing the power button does nothing.
Please help me.
So the problem still persists and I assume it's going to keep turning on and off for a while.
I'm just going to wait until the battery dies and see if it can charge and turn it back into bootloader. I'll report back on that.
On a side note in the case that this is bricked, anyone recommend any future phones out there better than the one with verizon? If not I'm probably just going to stick to this phone.

Hold down the volume down and power button at the same time, until the white hboot menu appears.
This may take a good 15 seconds or more, keep holding them down until the hboot menu appears.
Sounds like you aren't holding down long enough. If that doesn't work, try both volume up and down and power all at once.
Then when the screen goes black, let up on the up volume key, so that you enter fastboot via volume down and power.
Then you should be able to fastboot flash whatever you need to get back up and running again.
I wouldnt just let it keep looping until it dies though.
Probably won't damage anything but I doubt that it's real great for the device.

So here's the update.
Screen is now black, meaning the boot up/down process has stopped.
I have tried these:
A. Hold down the volume down + power button for 20+ seconds.
B. Hold down the volume up + volume down + power button for 20+ seconds and let up on the volume up button when screen goes black.
These two methods results in a single boot up to green HTC text then black screen.
I suspect the device has lost most of its power. Tried it for a third time, the device is now unresponsive and remains at black screen.
Now I plugged the usb cable connected to the power adapter.
The device enters the aforementioned continuous boot loop.
I tried method A and B, and there are no results, the boot loop continues. Now the device returns to the low or no powered state.
Now the device is connected to the computer. The same happens as if it were connected to the power adapter.
Method A and B still do not work.
Results: holding down buttons longer do nothing for me. The device seems to have lost power, but when charged, immediately the device enters the boot loop state.
Note: when doing method A and B the trials were done when screen is on and when screen is off, still no results.
Now the screen is off and not connected to anything. The problem still persists.

leave the phone charging for at least 10-15 min on the AC adapter. press and hold both vol buttons then press and hold power for 2+ minutes. after 2 minutes, let go of all buttons except volume down. success?

actually doing that will destroy the battery. well maybe destroy is too strong of a word but it will damage it for sure. this is a very useful site for anything battery...

I actually tried the 2+ minutes because I saw someone had success with another phone and they said they did it for 3 1/2 min. However it did not work.
Update: Welp, I gave up. I'm going to get my replacement soon and I'll be turning it into Verizon. Really it's not that bad of a loss since I just wiped the phone, only thing is I lost my screen protector and carbon skin

have you tried to just let the phone bootloop while holding vol down?

Bootlooped too!
Hello I have a HTC Thunderbolt that is S-ON Unlocked and unrooted with stock recovery that is in a bootloop that does now show on ADB or Fastboot. PLEASE HELP!!!!! I REALLY NEED IT!!
Hi! I have an LG x Power (posting here because the power doesn't seem to have a forum yet) and when it was booting I held the power button and the two volume buttons down by accident... It turned off and it wont turn back on again even after charging. now here's the wierd part: when I plugged it into my computer to check if I could see what happened, it instead of giving me nothing, downloaded some drivers.
sounds like you might be in some sort of download mode. Have you tried just holding the power button in, like a forced reset
hey buddy in case you still didnt figure this out you have put it in bulk mode but you can hold volume down and power for awhile and it will reboot

hold power and volume down for a bit and it will reboot had same thing happen, it is odd but what you discovered is something I mentioned a couple weeks ago that for some reason it goes into qualcomm bulk mode when doing that combo of key presses same thing happens on mine, but sadly I cant see the partitions when it is in that mode like normally wish I could cause then we could maybe send a custom rooted system partition to it but sadly that doesnt work, but you can still run scripts from the download mode on it at least, but so far I havent found one that will actually work for rooting it seems the same restrictions apply in marshmallow as when it is actually booted on the com ports hopefully someone can piece together something from the quad root exploit that we are still vulnerable to on this device to eventually get a root shell.
