[Q] Bricked Phone? - HTC Wildfire S

12342343242

Can you access the HBOOT?

Don't think so... Pretty much when I put the battery in and press the power button it just flashes dimly.

You need to hold Vol- and then press power.
can you go to hboot this way?

It will not go to hboot. Just flickers again when I try to.

Put the phone on the charger(and keep plugged in) for a few minutes and then try booting.

No luck.. just the same old flickering again

Pull the SIM, microSD and Battery for a few minutes then put back the battery and press power while holding the volume down button.

this won't help. waiting, put in/out/in/out battery and stuff is useless.
If you can not access hboot you can only try to flash the ruu again and if this does not work it's a case of guarantee.

Hold volume up and power after removing the battery. Does it vibrate?
Edit: obviously once you put the battery back in!

How would I flash the ruu again if I can't access hboot or get the device to turn on?
If I hold volume up and power after removing the battery there's no reaction at all, no vibrating or anything a black screen just starts flickering on and off

Please follow these steps very, very carefully to get into HBOOT.
1/. Remove battery for 5 seconds and then re-insert battery.
2/. Press and Hold "Volume Down" button (DO NOT RELEASE).
3/. Press and Hold "Power" button for about 5 seconds until the phone vibrates.
4/. Release both buttons and you should be in HBOOT.
The screen is white with Three Andoids on Skate Boards.
Job Done.
Let us know if this works.
Good Luck.

there's nothing you can do anymore. send it to repair.

I believe he did it wrong, hence my reply.
He said he used Volume Up button and I don't think it was explained clearly about the PRESS AND HOLD bit of the sequence.
Just trying to help like a lot of other good people on here.

Have you tried getting a refund. Say something technical to some dumb service dude and they will give you the thing on the spot normally.
If you cant get a new one then theres always eBay to sell it. And if that doesn't work I'm sure somebody would buy it over XDA market.
If all else fails build a little house out of loads of bricked phones if you have lots.
If not just mail it to the UK so I can smash it with a hammer it use it for parts lol.

Since you tried to install an official HTC RUU, HTC will repair your device according to your warranty terms.

HTC One X Stuck in SAFEMODE

Does anyone know how to get the HTC One X out of Safe Mode? I tried turning off the phone and turning it back on...nothing and also the down button doesn't work at all, maybe a part of the safe mode.

when I get to bootloader only the up volume button works, I can get to my home screen on the phone, it just has that "safe mode" in the lower left hand corner and it wont allow 3rd pty apps to run at all. I downloaded the stock ruu from xda to my laptop. going to give that a shot when i get home. I just thought maybe there was a button combo to fix it.
Have you tried holding the power button for 10 seconds (or however long it is) to simulate a battery pull.
Other than that, maybe try turning on with both volume down + volume up held as it boots up?

this may be your clue. Sounds like a hardware fault with the vol+ button stuck down on boot.
Either that or your battery died while installing something.
Fixed
Pressing and holding the power button until the three lighted buttons at the bottom flaedh solved the issue for me. I also had a good press and release of the volume buttons first but presume it was the hard reset that did it as I'd tried messing with the buttons already.

I hope it is merely the volume key being stuck for some weird reason, fixing it is pretty straightforward: release the cover and carefully detach the screen. The volume buttons along with the power button will fall off. Try replacing them or perhaps turning the volume keys.
If the keys are not the cause you'd better hope you didn't void warranty.

Bootloader with a non-working Volume Down button

Hello xda!
I'm in the process of sending my phone of to be reclyced. Gets me a bit of money and helps the environment or a third world person!
However, I think I have bricked my HTC Desire.
I wanted to put stock ROM on it, and I tried to flasjh a custom rom too it. Now its stuck at the purple circle at boot. (T-Mobile Desire)
Obviously could fix it going into bootloader, but the Vol Down button doesn't work so I don't know how to do it!
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Tim
Have you tried pushing, really really hard?
I thought mine was completely broken until I really had no other choice but to push it very hard.
Try that and when it does not work, battery out and in and try the same until it works.
Dont push so hard that something breaks inside
Just so u know my buttons dont work for bout 90 seconds so maybe just leave it for 2 mins.

I dont know what you mean you hold vol- down and switch it on, when the htc sign comes up it didnt work.
So you push that vol down very hard and keep pressing it and turn it on
When it works you are in the bootloader 3 seconds after you turned it on.
Black screen and then the bootloader.
When you see the HTC sign instead of the bootloader, take the battery out immeadiatly and retry.
Do that maybe 5 times and press a little harder each time.
You can also turn your phone off and hold the back arrow button and power on, from there you can go to recovery with the volume up button ?!

I've tried the Power On + Back Button, doesn't boot into anything, same purple-never ending screen.
I've tried pressing the Vol Down button really hard, nothing. Weird, as all other buttons are fine!

the language barrier here isn't going to work..
this phone doesn't even have a menu button so how could you have help it for 7 seconds??
IT is KNOWN that to hold the power + volume to get to fastboot..
As I said, you hold power + volume down for a LONG time don't let go until in fastboot... could take up to 20 seconds..
then you get to recovery and flash your ROM, or backup..
nothing new was discovered here.
we just fixed your user error.
Personally if you can get into recovery (team win recovery project) or stock - try just doing a factory reset (wipe data and cache).
Also- you are in the wrong forum. This is the USA Verizon wireless HTC One forum. You should be in the international One forum.
Thirdly - it sounds like you really don't understand any of this so you need to do some reading on how the entire process works because if you end up having to wipe your system its going to get complicated

[Q] Bootloop help (cannot access fastboot/adb)

I just rooted and S-off my HTC via rumrunner.
No flash roms install or custom recovery installed.
I wanted to see if I still had CWM from my last root (I returned to stock via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216&highlight=s-on.
So I went into the bootloader or fastboot (I don't remember) and hit recovery. This did not send me to a CWM, but it appeared to be the stock version of recovery. The process took too long (I know impatient) so I turned it off via power button + volume down.
Now I come to you in need, my phone is constantly turning off/on only displaying the green htc text, no red text, then pausing for 8 seconds, then off again to black screen. The whole process lasts 12 seconds, and this had been going on for about 10-15 min atm.
Plugging it in, my computer does not have the time to recognize it with adb, or fastboot.
I cannot use the power button + volume down to go into bootloader, and pressing the power button does nothing.
Please help me.
So the problem still persists and I assume it's going to keep turning on and off for a while.
I'm just going to wait until the battery dies and see if it can charge and turn it back into bootloader. I'll report back on that.
On a side note in the case that this is bricked, anyone recommend any future phones out there better than the one with verizon? If not I'm probably just going to stick to this phone.

Hold down the volume down and power button at the same time, until the white hboot menu appears.
This may take a good 15 seconds or more, keep holding them down until the hboot menu appears.
Sounds like you aren't holding down long enough. If that doesn't work, try both volume up and down and power all at once.
Then when the screen goes black, let up on the up volume key, so that you enter fastboot via volume down and power.
Then you should be able to fastboot flash whatever you need to get back up and running again.
I wouldnt just let it keep looping until it dies though.
Probably won't damage anything but I doubt that it's real great for the device.

So here's the update.
Screen is now black, meaning the boot up/down process has stopped.
I have tried these:
A. Hold down the volume down + power button for 20+ seconds.
B. Hold down the volume up + volume down + power button for 20+ seconds and let up on the volume up button when screen goes black.
These two methods results in a single boot up to green HTC text then black screen.
I suspect the device has lost most of its power. Tried it for a third time, the device is now unresponsive and remains at black screen.
Now I plugged the usb cable connected to the power adapter.
The device enters the aforementioned continuous boot loop.
I tried method A and B, and there are no results, the boot loop continues. Now the device returns to the low or no powered state.
Now the device is connected to the computer. The same happens as if it were connected to the power adapter.
Method A and B still do not work.
Results: holding down buttons longer do nothing for me. The device seems to have lost power, but when charged, immediately the device enters the boot loop state.
Note: when doing method A and B the trials were done when screen is on and when screen is off, still no results.
Now the screen is off and not connected to anything. The problem still persists.

I don't think I like the tone of this post. Instead of posting the same thing over and over needlessly (and in bold and caps, which is normally construed on the internet as YELLING); how about providing actual useful information, such as what appears on the screen (since you say it still goes off and on) and why you think it won't go into bootloader (what button sequence did you try?).

Sorry cause last time I posted this I got replies where people keep telling me to use ODIN and obviously that doesn't work (cause ODIN is for Samsung) so it ticked me off too much.
Tried every button sequence

You must have asked in one of the "noob friendly" threads. Often n00bs are trying to help n00bs there, and yes ODIN will definitely not work.
Hold down the power button + vol up until your phone goes to reboot (could take up to 20 seconds). AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK slide your finger from vol up to vol down. This will boot you to bootloader.
Alternatively, if your phone is already powered off, simply boot it up by holding power + vol down. This will also take you to bootloader.

Okay, well posting in an angry fashion isn't going to help matters. The folks that ticked you off probably won't even read it, or care that you are angry. And folks like me that just want to help will just be turned off.
My suggestion next time, would be to ask in a diplomatic way "please don't tell me to use Odin, since it doesn't work on HTC devices", or something to that effect. Get your point across, in a way that won't piss of others.
But thanks for editing the top post.

So it flickers on when you try the button sequences (and which ones, if they don't all have the same result)? And how long does it say on for, and what does it show (HTC logo, bootloader, or something else) when its on? Then it goes back off until you do another button sequence?
More detail is always better when troubleshooting this type of thing.
Also, I know you said you can't remember which ROM you flashed, but if you can recall anything at all, its pretty important to determine what you did and what the problem may be. Did you get it from the M8 development forums here on XDA? Anything else you can recall is possibly relevant.

I would agree to try this. Depending on the status of the phone, it may even take a minute or more holding power + vol up before a reboot is initiated. Folks often will say they tried the button sequences, but not realize they didn't hold the buttons long enough.
Also, try to charge the phone for a few hours, and try again. Try the button combo with and without the wall charger attached (strangely, some folks have had luck doing the button combo with the charger attached).
Also, if/when the phone reboots, once you slide your finger down to the vol down button, its important not the let go, until the bootloader screen appears. If you let go too early, it will fail to go to bootloader.
