I'm running OsiMood ROM which is based on Android 2.3.5 version. I'm having some signal issues and was thinking of trying another modem. Is it possible to install UCLJ3 from bubor's link here on this ROM?
Is there a repository somewhere for modems in zip format (or any other easily installable)?
Yes it can be done,I think that is zip-aligned. I have seen people upgrade there modems only on the s3's no problem, but I have never tested this on this phone *shrugs*
If it ends up not working, a Nand backup restore should restore the old modem too? Is it possible to brick the device with an incompatible modem flash?

no,and I dont think so.
you can download all modems here: http://dualhoki.vim.hu/bubor/dev/modem/
Rename modem bin to UCLJ3.bin, and put into http://dualhoki.vim.hu/bubor/dev/UCLJ3.zip ( ovewrite that file), and install new zip file.
Flashed. It's working so far. I'll have to test if there are any improvements or regressions.
EDIT: Not working very well. Looses signal every so often and refuses to activate data sometimes. Trying RUXKJ5 now.
RUXKJ5 works fine for now. Much better than UCLJ3, still have to see how it compares to UCKL1 I had originally.

Well I've been reading about rooting and installing roms on the galaxy note 2 for about 2 weeks now. However, I have the t889v wind mobile variant. which as I have read has a lot of problems attached to it. I don't understand why or how but all I know is that its there. The rooting process as someone explained it to me doesn't seem hard and too different from the t889 version.
But the problems arise in that you install a rom and you run the chance of losing your imei. you have to flash a modem which i hear gives some phones bootloop problems and some not. I also read that the roms have a problem running on the t899v.
Well i guess my question is that, is this a problem that occurs on every t889v or is it just some. If it is only some than what did you guys do wrong? and what are the steps to fix it. Because I really wan't multi-window feature and I don't know how long it will take Wind mobile to push out their updates I'm assuming close to never lol. Therefore I'm more reliant on Roms and rooting but I don't wan't it to the expense of rendering my phone useless.

If you can live with slow data speeds root it, the only thing is you cant go back to stock and NEVER and i mean NEVER flash the T889V modem because youll just screw up your phone
You should be ok with either CWM update zip ROMs or Odin flashable ones that don't include the modem.bin image in their tar file. For those ROMs that do include the modem image, you can repack the ROM to keep only the system and boot.img, (Cygwin's tar binary works well for this.)
As has been said before, flashing modems can get ugly if you make but one mistake.

thanks for the replys but, by modem you speak of the t889v modem that has been posted on the developers page that said for canadian users to flash
-and as for data speeds, why do they become slow all of a sudden? and is there any way I can extract the modem from the stock rom on my phone, and then later flash it onto the phone after I flash the custom rom?

They become slow because its using the tmobile modem, and if you flash the t899v modem available it will make your phone go into a reboot loop (Happened to two of my note 2), and im not sure if you can get the modem form your stock rom right now

well that's a shame if only there was a way i could just extract my modem and use it...I guess i'll just wait till more brilliant minds fix it. As waiting for wind to update is highly unlikely.
Actually rooting is really easy.
Download the toolkit.
Takes like 2 minutes.
Then you can use some very useful apps like titanium backup / adfree, etc.
Recovery is also useful.
You can use custom roms too. See details here:

Not too long ago I was on the same boat. I was pissed off when I got my gn2 with wind only to find out there is very little support for it. I read some horrible stories on xda but I can personaly say I didnt lose my imei or bootloop. I used the toolkit to root and then flashed jedi x14. With this particular rom you select the option to retain your modem so you will not be flashing any modems. This is the only rom I am willing to vouch for as I have not tested other ones. Make sure you flash twrp recovery and backup your rom with efs modem and everything before flashing anything. Always wipe before flashing and follow OP. I have not noticed my phone being slower but then again I never bothered checking my speed when my phone was stock either. Good luck

ok so as you all know ive been having this problem with my note 2 eversince i flashed a mk4 rom and updated prl firmware version i guess it updated my baseband and all sorts of things i flashed the odin wifi fix and it made mk4 wifi work and everything was glee.. well i wanted aosp 4.4.2 back because it was simply gorgious i guess i had a thing for it. well i went to flash it after wiping factory data reset and after it flashed i let it run for over 30 minuts and it never made it past the cyanogenmod boot screen so i assumed it was a bootloop or bad download. my answer to this is i believe its the baseband or prl version not letting me run this. because before i ran mk4 and did all the updates i could always revert back to 4.4.2 without a problem now all the sudden i cant even load any aosp 4.4 rom. i can load all of 4.2.2 4.1.2 all those aosp roms but not the newest rom which is frusterating. if anyone has a fix or a recamended solution please help me because i have done just about every factory reset availible such as billiards back to stock and some other one. both not helping.
below here is the data i have recorded from my phone
PRL 2011
Baseband L900VPAMC2
PRL and baseband should both be irrelevant. Your problem is most likely a corrupt download. Have you checked hash sums?

i have redowloaded roms 2x and still no luck i reset the phone back to stock 5 times and still no luck it still bootloops makes me wonna sell the phone and be done with samsung.i should of never did the 4.3 rom because it gave me nothing but problems. i downloaded another aosp rom to my internal sd to see if my sd card was currupt and it did the same Bootloop. i have no clue what it could be. ive used CMW and tWrp and both did the same
How many times you've downloaded is completely irrelevant. You've either verified the md5 hash and thereby confirmed your downloads are good or you have not. I presume you have yet to do so.
Before any other steps can be advised you have to do that 1st basic step.
The download is good
im not sure what to do about this stupid problem but its aggrivating me to no end. ive done just about everysingle thing there is to make this work but it fails

One question...your baseband says MC2, did you unroot at any point following the MK4-upgrade (and wifi "fix") back to MC2? I have a theory, if you have not unrooted to MC2 firmware, and that is just because you didn't update radios...you might not like it...
The MK4 radio works fine IME with 4.4 ROMs FWIW.
i chose the oldest return to stock from billiards. i wanted to see if that fixes anything and it doesnt do squat. i just wonna figure out a resolution to this mess. my current baseband and prl and firmware version are

Crap...you just shot down my working theory.
In flashing 4.4 builds, you're using complete wipes? What GApps package are you using? ParanoidAndroid 4.4 Apps?
im doing a complete wipe and flashing the rom first to see if it even boots. and no go.
This doesnt make sense at all and makes me revert back to the baseband theory. i think somthing with the version of my phone has somthing to do with it.
the wifi patch wasnt the problem the recovery isnt the problem the only think i can think of is my phone is corrupt and wont flash 4.4.2 roms which aggrivates me. i want to get to the bottum of this
literally any aosp 4.4.2 rom bootloops.
the only one that booted up fine was omni rom and it didnt even have mobile data or signal seemed like it was for att or a gsm company because it had no support for my phone.
if i could just get ahold of a 4.4.2 kernal such as carbons trinity kernal or pretty much any 4.4.2 flashable kernal i think i could fix it as it seems that might also be the case
Did you try wiping your internal memory? I had a similar problem once, that was the solution.

The 2.05b kernel of Plasma works fine with Omni. I've been using Omni builds for the last full month on my L900. Baseband is MK4 and PRL here is 2006.
No radios working sounds like you were using TWRP and not CWM or PhilZ recovery to a T. Maybe the latest TWRP has fixed its compatibility problems with 4.4+, but last I tried using TWRP to flash any 4,4 build-all it got me was no wifi/cell service. Be sure to use the recommended Paranoid Android GApps package for 4.4 with Omni.
Could you provide me with a link to the kernel that will work with cyanogen mod omni doesn't have data or mobile service
I have the philz
I don't flash any Google apps until i see that the rom is working which I've had no success. The weird thing with omni is that it doesn't even support sprint it only supports gsm

Something has to be bizarre with your handset. Seriously, there's no other way to describe it. OmniROM for L900 is NOT GSM only, something in your flashing got altered in the middle of all your flashing. See my screencaps below if you don't believe me.
My only theory is that that "wifi fix" scrambled something in your radio for AOSP 4.4 ROMs....and that whatever it is isn't purged by a normal flash of a new/old baseband. It can't be the PRL as that is irrelevant and if you had a bad PRL it wouldn't work even under stock ROMs, and the baseband shouldn't matter but as you can see below I'm on baseband MK4 and I work fine.
let me revert back to stock one more time and do the 4.3 update and get the latest baseband version and ill report back to you after rooting and trying the omnirom or cm ok? i dont have a clue what the hell is going on as of now but its boggling my mind
OK so I'm on the latest baseband I flashed cm and no go kept sticking at the cm logo animation nothing else
I flash the kernel and it does the exact same. Fwi I'm using clockwork mod recovery
ok so i managed to get omni running without a problem the only issue is Root privilages. it doesnt have root. ive installes super su but it doesnt go into recovery and flash the binaries which doesnt make sense. ill try one more rom before i flash back to mk4 smoothest for a while. wish i could get this sorted out

Just flash supersu installable zip from recovery
i dont have the flashable zip
didnt see anything on the omni post either.
my question is why did this rom run without a flaw but when cm or pa flashes it has issues
I have an s3, it's broken from what i can tell, it sometimes rings someties outs out calls but it's not fuctioing correcyl. It was completely stock.
Its a rogers i7147m on 4.42 I factory rest it, still not working properly so I tried to use old FW only to realize after i soft bricked it the knox must have locked the bootloader.
I install a Verizon rom (the only one that seemed to work in Odin) and it booted without wifi, I then reinstalled an AT&T FW for specifically for teh i747m and it booted no WIFI I then installed a rooted Rogers i747m via CWR and it wouldn't boot I then tried the rooted FW with Knox and it worked BUT no WIFI, I would at least liek to get wifi on this and use it as a mini tablet,
now I want to try to revert it to a non rooted Rogers to get it all back to normal, the only way i can get a rom into this is via CWM odim fails on boot and all the roms I download are in zip and within them an MD5 which CWM doesn't let me install.
Anytips? I have the stock rom ready to go but it's in odin format
What can i do? And is the wifi issue a kernal issue? how can i at least resolve the wifi problem.
Thanks

Although this area is for the i9300 s3 I would think installing a Verizon rom on a at&t phone is the cause of all your issues I would think.
Sounds like the efs may be corrupt. Either was this is the wrong section for you. Flashing anything here will brick it.
I will ask a mod to move it.
Also you need a rom zip to flash through CWM

Rogers SGH-i747 is nearly identical to AT&T's SGH-i747 - as a matter of fact, I believe they can still use each others' ROMs.
So this is the right spot for it to be.
Look for a d2lte common CWM or a d2att version and you should be okay.

I am an international user lol so I have no knowledge of US phones lol but good to know.
Hi,
I rooted my I747M and installed CM 11 D2LTE Rom 4.4.4 KK. (I tried with CM kernel and Quantum Kernel)
Everything work well, except the Wifi, it's not stable, going up and down all the time. So i tried to install different modem, all the other modem (From HERE I747M) are not working (WIFI is working very well with thoses modem but I have no Signal with Koodo) .... dont know why !!!
Should I try the AT&T modem ??
The only modem that work is the I747MVLUFNK2 Baseband & Modem (Koodo).
Is there other Baseband / modem that I can flash to get a stable Wifi !????
Thx
PS : Sorry for my bad english
What bootloader is on your phone? You should make sure the baseband/modem matches your bootloader. Does the problem occur with stock ROM?
My baseband/modem matches my bootloader. I didn't want to go back on the stock rom because i hate all the samsung Apps. But I think i have no choice, I will try it tomorrow to let u know if it is working good or not.
Thx for your fast answer
You should verify your bootloader before trying to go back to stock as attempts to downgrade a 4.3 or newer bootloader could brick your phone.
Hey all. I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to rooting, though I have done a few succesfully in the past. I currently have the newest version of TWRP installed on my Samsung I747M. The I747M I have is not from one of the major carriers, but as far as I am aware, the phone is factory network unlocked. Carrier is GCI, in Alaska.
I currently have a 4.4.2 Touchwiz Rom installed and started having problems after I attempted to flash the ROM Dandroid, which is 4.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121506). I had created a backup using TWRP before flashing the ROM and reverted back once I noticed the problem.
The main issue I am experiencing at this time is the Baseband Version, IMEI, and other information related to the modem is showing "Unknown" and features such as wifi will not toggle on.
I had also attempted to flash the most current version of the modem that I was able to find thru Odin. Odin showed the flash as successful. The version I flashed to the phone was I747MUMUEND3: modem_CWM_I747MUMUEND3.zip - 18.80 MB - April 3rd, 2014 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898)
At this point, I can still get into recovery, download modem and I am able to boot up the phone and access most all functions. The next step I was going to try was going to be to flash back to stock firmware from sammobile's website (Was using to use the Roger's version of 4.4.2), though I don't want to cause more issues than I can handle or resolve thru software.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated or even just how to get the modem/wifi features functional again would be helpful. I'm just as happy staying on my current ROM at this point if I can get the phone fully functional again.
It's possible that the rom is not compatible with the kk modem and bootloader.

Forgot to mention, this is something I did try. I attempted to flash Cyanogen Mod 12.1 (Download: cm-12.1-20151017-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (286.76 MB) ) and most recent nightly build & the most recent stable release (CM11) (Download: cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2att.zip (194.37 MB) ). When flashing these, I transferred the downloaded ZIP file to the internal storage of the phone in the root directory and attempted to run an install from TWRP. Both installs failed.
Since the phone is an i747m, I recommend flashing back to stock using Odin 3.07 and stock ROM file from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747M/
The i747m versions are interchangeable between Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
After flashing back to stock, install TWRP using Odin 3007 from here: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/twrp-2.8.7.0-d2att.img.tar
Create a nandroid backup using TWRP and then try to flash a custom ROM again.

I'll give that a shot when I get home. Stock firmware was one of my next thoughts. I have it downloading at the measly 15 Kbps offered for free from sammobile so hopefully should be done by the time I get home & update this thread with any progress.
Another possibility is a custom kernel, if you are wishing to stay with TouchWiz and not wanting to upgrade your bootloader and modem past 4.3.
Some of the 4.4.2 TW roms will run on 4.3 bootloader and modems using one of ibuddler's kernels or ktoonsez's TW kernel. This was discussed most in the Likewise ROM thread and links to the various versions of ibuddler's kernel may be found there. It may have also been discussed in TMS3KK thread. The ktoonsez kernel can be found in its own thread.
But, you may really want to consider a newer ROM in order to change to something with the stagefright fixes. I think any of these may require the latest 4.4.2 bootloader and modem. (What say you @audit13?)

I'm not opposed to any of this. Mostly just trying to slim down this phone to the basics as much as I can and am quite open to any recommendations. Main thing I want to maximize is battery life & simplicity since this is for my wife and those are her major wants in a phone. I figure any kind of ROM that just covers the basics should cover my bases & would prefer one with a darker/black skin to maximize battery life w/ the OLED screen. I am in the process of flashing to the Roger's stock ROM as I type this w/ my fingers crossed.
Just to add, no over clocking or anything of that nature is desired. If I remember correctly I ended up putting the ktoonsez kernel on one of my handsets, either this Galaxy S3 or my Galaxy S5, though I can't recall which since it was so long ago.
Alright! So progress! Wifi, Baseband version, IMEI and all other missing information restored & now works w/ stock rom flash. In process of reflashing TWRP now.
Let us know what happens.
Still all good with TWRP installed. Have not flashed back on a custom ROM yet. After reviewing some of the above recommendations, I am kind of liking the looks & features of TMS3KK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725750) and feel it would suit my needs.
I factory reset, cleared cache, and cleared Dalvik thru TWRP & then made a back up. Prior to this, I confirmed everything was still working normally w/ phone fully loaded after TWRP was installed.
One of the things mentioned on the installation instructions for that ROM is the following:
---
Do not mix and match 4.3 firmware (bootloaders/modem) with the new 4.4.2 ones. You will hard brick and I warned you. This works the same as any 4.3 or ND8port ROM with 4.3 firmware and it can use the new 4.4.2 ones also.
Link to recovery flashable i747 and i747M 4.4.2 bootloader and modem packages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...hable-t2856914
---
How would I go about confirming my current bootloader/modem versions to make sure they are both 4.4.2 before flashing this ROM? At the link provided, those files/links to the files were removed because they were causing some bricked devices per a note at the top of that thread. Here's a link to the thread I am referencing since the above link looks to be broken. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...mware-ne4-ne6-nf2-recovery-flashable-t2856914)
If you flashed the latest stock rom, you are running the latest 4.4.2 bootoader and modem.
You can download and run the Samsung phone info app from the play store to confirm this.
You should be good to flash any d2lte or d2att rom.
I recommend not flashing any modem or bootoader from this point forward unless the bootoader and modem are newer than the currently installed botloader and modem. Also, the botloader and modem must be matched to each other.

If you flashed the latest stock rom, you are running the latest 4.4.2 bootoader and modem.

Thank you so much for the help and information. I guess I never realized that the bootloader & modem were installed w/ the stock rom as I always have flashed those separately through Odin when needed. Definitely good information to have and not easy information to find. I have successfully got my custom ROM on there and am now fine-tuning it for the wife.

Glad to hear the phone is running well.
I've heard it said "Happy wife, Happy life."
