Google Now Launcher not showing OK google from any screen - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to get "OK google" from any screen settings to appear. I only get the standard option from the home screen. A week ago I installed the launcher and it worked. I did a system restore and updated now it doesn't. Anybody know what causes this. I know I have the latest app and GPS.

From what I've seen inside the app, you need English US activated.

The clearing the app's data, force stop it, and restart.

[Q] Chrome Browser Icon changed to an Android figure?

I don't know what happened but I just noticed that my Chrome browser button has changed to an Android figure. Any idea what caused this? I would post a picture but I haven't posted here enough to do so yet.

That normally means it isn't installed anymore but there is still an existing shortcut to it. Does it still work?
Under the apps menu it showed correctly, so I just replaced my shortcut and all was back to normal.

Yup, or simply a broken short cut. Replace it and you'll be fine.
Or you can have a panic attack and tell Google about it
Sometimes it means the package name changed after a particular update in the Play Store. Some launchers don't keep track of package name changes very well, so an update that changes the package name could cause the icon to vanish from the home screen.
Ok thanks. It works fine, just the icon changed all of a sudden. I thought maybe I had done something to change it and wanted to try and replicate it. I like the icon so I'll leave it be until it stops working.
LOL, and no, I'm not panicing in the slightest. If it wasn't working I'd just uninstall and then reinstall.
Thanks,
A.
Something similar happened to Maps a few months ago. I think they changed the package name, and it caused my Maps shortcut to vanish from Nova Launcher on both my phone and tablet.
this actually happened to me yesterday as well. i laughed. the droid is cool. but still, wtf?

Google Nav crashing with flashing white/black screen

got an issue with the google nav app crashing on me.
a little background first though.
had this issue on the std rom, and tried flashing the current ARHD 31.3 rom in the hope of fixing it, it hasnt!
from a fresh boot, i can go into the google maps app, choose a location and then use the nav app go to there, no issues at all.
next time, i open maps, no issues at all, choose my location, and as soon as i hit start navigation, the nav screen opens, showing the next turn to make at the top, the voice is telling me where to go, but the main map screen, is flashing black and white.
it flashes like that for 5 or 10 seconds before crashing, the only way to restore navigation to a working state is to reboot the phone.
its getting rather annoying now, as i dont use the nav very often, i tend to need it occasionally, and its irritating to have to reboot the phone just to get the nav working.
as far as i am aware, the GPS works fine in everything else, (Maps, strava, gps test) it just seems to be nav thats causing the issue.
i've already tried clearing the cache from settings, apps, clear data, but i still get the same issue
any ideas on what might be causing this
cheers

Had this too on CM, thought it had something to do with the ROM but after reverting to stock exactly the same issue. You're not alone

Any update on this issue? I have exactly same issue on stocked One X with Sense 5.0, Android 4.2.2.
I have exactly the same problem. I'm wondering if it's a Sense or app issue. Either way, I submitted a bug report.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
I turned off the hardware overlay in the Developer section, and it seems no problem anymore... Not thoughtfully tested yet, tho...
Still flashing and crashing HTC One X+
Google maps to navigation is still flashing and crashing - even after turning off hardware overlays.
Works 1st time after reboot. If I swipe the app away from recent apps screen, then it starts failing.
3rd time I start it, working again, but I figure it's going to happen again.

Anyone ever get an answer to this? Last post I found was December 2013 and still nothing.

I think I've found a kind of workaround to prevent this problem.
When you search the location you want to reach, and you are faced to the tile with these info:
8 min (3,1 km)
some info about trip
[MAP]
Start navigation
Instead of click on "Start navigation", click on "8 min (3,1 km)", then when the map is open, click on "Departure" and maps should not crash.
I hope the explanation is enough clear, I've translated texts from the italian app so I'm not sure if I've did it in the right way.

Totally works! Thanks!

I was so annoyed with this...
I have had this problem for the last year using the stock, rooted AT&T Rom for my HTC One X + My wifes phone that is an HTC One X does not seem to do this. I found when I removed the maps update it worked well. When it updated it seemed to work a few times then the flickering and crashing started up again.
I tried the other suggestion above.
Finally I noted that when I clicked on start nav and as soon as it tried to open the map if I hit the power button and waited a second and turned it back on the image was stable. Sometimes I couldn't catch it before it crashed but if I did it would do the trick.
Why doesn't google fix this?
Same here. One X with rooted stock ROM.
When the flickering starts, i turn off the screen and then back on. This works for me in most situations. Still really annoying.

"Unfortunately, Home has stopped"

I am getting this error message essentially making the phone useless. I got notification I had an update on Friday. It auto updated, I installed it, it rebooted, and this message continuously pops up and I cant use anything. Factory reset did nothing, and the only semi work around is I was able to get Nova Launcher on there. It semi works but the message comes up every time I lock and unlock the phone.
Nobody seems to know the answer to what the hell this is or what happened but I need someone who is smarter than I to help me fix it please. Any advice is very much appreciated. Phone is unrooted.
Thanks in advance.
Go to setting, General, Apps, All Apps, and fine "Home". Clear cache and reboot.

tried that, it didn't seem to work. Is there something I'm missing? Do certain apps cause this?
Having the same issue right after updating to 6.0; clearing cache didn't work for me either. I suppose I'll try a different launcher in the meanwhile.
"Unfortunately, Home has stopped
I am now rooted using the video instructions from ROOT JUNKY, but I am getting this error message "Unfortunately, Home has stopped" I went to the Apps setting and resets app preference and also clear the home cache but to no effect. i am able to get the simple home setting but not the other advance home setting. please help if you can. Thanks inadvance
LG G4 H815
Problem solved for Lg G4. Go to Settings, General, Apps swipe left to "All" then scroll down to "HOME" not easy home. Open it and clear cache and also "clear data" you will get a warning message when you try to clear data, but that's ok. I was afraid to do this but it works for me, It will only clear and Home screen preference or shortcut you had. You can setup your preferred shortcuts after again. restart and select "Home" as your default. Let me know if this helps
Think not.. Still home crashes
Nope, that's not a fix. All it did was wreck my app placements and settings.. Nothing else. Immediately after clearing the cache and data it crashed exactly the same way.
Home has stopped is becoming increasingly annoying, and also increasing in frequency. I'm going to try Uninstalling the app update that started it all: Voice Mate 4.70.10.
I'll see if this works. If so I'll post here. If not, consider this an open thread and hopefully someone in the G4 community with some skills and knowledge will find a solution.
Anyone found a solution to this problem?

If you have an LG G4 you may have seen this message and waited for the home screen to re-start again, only to happen again and again, I’ve searched all the forums to no avail, so I installed another home screen to got rid of the problem, now have a permanent fix, you have to disable Smart Bulletins:
Go to apps, hit menu, select home screen settings, turn off Smart Bulletins.

Google now "always on" feature keeps turning itself off.

I check it in the settings and then try to use it every once in while and it doesn't respond. When i head back into the settings the option is unchecked. Re-checking works until it randomly stops working once again. Any ideas?
Any ideas? It keeps happening.
Stock? Rooted? Custom launcher? Try signing out of Google and clearing the data in the Google app. If you're using a custom launcher, make sure there aren't settings in there that are turned off. I know Nova has something along the lines of turning on or accessing always listening. Good luck.
Sorry - can't help you, except I will confirm it did it regularly on 6.0.0 for mine -- every few days -- and (fingers crossed) has stopped turning itself off on 6.0.1.

stock, not rooted. I use the standard launcher. I am using 6.0.1 at the moment but it did it beforehand as well. I tried clearing the search portion of the google app. Apparently they split the "clear data" section for this app in to two separate pieces. One's for search stuff, the rest of for launcher stuff. Maybe i should clear that too. It doesn't seems like that would be related though. Looks like i got an update to the google app today though so i hope that'll help something. If not i'll try the signout and clearing it all like you suggested.

Android P Beta: Weather on AOD not consistent / not working

When I enrolled into Beta and upgraded I saw that on AOD and Lock Screen the current weather is shown.
Then it was disappeared shortly after that.
I discovered, that disable and enable Google app temporarilly fix the problem. When observing its behavior I saw, that it won't get updated. I don't know if the data is pulled from Google app, or from somewhere else. It stays the same, despite the Glance Widget shows the change in temperature.
For just in case I also check the Pixel ambient services app and grant location permission there, for just in case...
Bottom line: Weather on AOD & Lock screen is shown for limited amount of time, but when it should be updated, it is lost.
Did any of you played with it? Does it work for anyone from you?
Happening to all of us. No known fix yet. I assume it is a bug they will need to fix.
My alarm goes missing as well. The first week on dp2 I just chalked it up to a dirty flash. I factory reset Tuesday and had both the weather and my alarm show for the first 2 or 4 hours. They both have been missing ever since.

you will have to revert the google app to the version that shipped with the P beta, and turn off automatic updates for the google app.
version 7.24.34.21.arm64 is the only one known to work.
Confirmed working: It does show up after restart & it does autoupdate. Been working fine for a whole day now.

It did for me for about one shift at work, just a few hours. Now it's gone again.

Did you enable location permission for Pixel Ambient Services app? I did.. Anyway I will see how it will behave. I did perform a couple of restarts in the meantime. First is off, but when swiping to Google now and refresh the Feed it shows up instantly and working fine ever since.
Location permission is enabled. It's not that I really need the weather, but I like it. Maybe the next DP will fix that.
