[Q] Uninstall Cyogenmod US Note 8.0 n5110 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hello,
I installed Cyogenmod on my Note 8.0 almost a year ago, but I'd really like to go back to stock ROM so I can use the Samsung/stylus apps. I haven't found any guides to uninstall cyogenmod. To top it off I seem to have lost my original backup since my laptop crashed about 10 months ago. Any help would be appreciated.

1) Download your stock rom, either from the forum or from samfirmware.com. Just be carefull, if you flash a 4.4 rom you will get Knox in your bootloader, so it's better to go to a previous version if you plan on rooting.
2) Download Odin 3.09
3) Go to download mode by turning off your Note, and turning it on while pressing Vol down and Home buttons.
4) Open Odin, load the stock rom with the AP button in Odin, connect your Note to USB and click Start. (You have to have the Samsung drivers installed on your machine)
Enjoy!
PD
If you use linux instead of Windows you can use Heimdall to flash.

Thanks for the help! I just finished the install

Thanks for posting. I want to flash back to stock to sell my device and needed this. Will this also remove the custom recovery?
Much appreciated

Yes

that leads me to a follow up question. Will I need to re-root my note now?

Yes, if you want it rooted, you have to re-root it because flashing stock firmware will lose your previous root.

Better alternative?

Have you ever considered using CM 11 with CM SPen Add-on, Note Buddy and Myscript Stylus Beta OCR? Simple Notepad for notetaking organizer.
I would never return to Samsung 4.4.2.

[Q] Can't get Recovery/Root. Need help please.

I NOW HAVE ROOT AND RECOVERY!
Thanks to mariostar32 and krankdroid!
Hi all,
I've just bought a Note II and am trying to get root. I've followed this tutorial carefully
HTML:
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-on-linuxubuntu/
and everything completes without error, but whenever I try and boot into recovery it just get a garbled Samsung boot logo and it never gets to recovery.
Now I can't go back to stock updates since my device has been modified, so I'm commited to getting root and custom recovery now.
Can anyone help me with what is going wrong?
Thanks
download the last version 4.1.2 and flash it via odin. If you need any help tell me.

I can no longer download updates from Samsung since I have tried to root it already.
I can't use Odin since I don't have Windows.
I have tried the method in the link above using Heimdall (Odin equiv. for Linux) and everything went fine (no errors, terminal output was as expected) but cannot get into any recovery (stock or custom)
Before you proceed with tutorial, make sure:
You have installed your Galaxy Note 2 N7100 USB drivers on your PC.
You need to enable USB debugging mode which is deactivated by default.
You smartphone should have 70-80% charge remaining.
Your Galaxy Note 2 N7100 should be factory unlocked.
Backup your important data like Call logs, SMS and other data in stored in phone memory so in case if anything goes wrong, your data is not hurt.
The update is only meant for Galaxy Note 2 N7100, so don’t try it on other variants.
Step 1) Download Android 4.1.2 XXDLK7 for Galaxy Note 2 N7100. " I can't post outside links so type in google galaxy note 2 xxdlk7 "
Step 2) Download ODIN v3.07. It's an old version but you can download a newer version of odin from google but it works np
Step 3) Turn OFF your mobile and go to Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home Buttons together for few seconds followed by Power button until you see Android logo with triangle on screen.
Step 4) Now open ODIN on your PC and connect your Galaxy Note 2 N7100 to your computer.
Step 5) Once your phone is successfully connected to your PC, the ID:COM box on ODIN will turn yellow and will show the COM port number.
Step 6) Select the downloaded file to install by following below steps:
Click on PDA and select file with HOME or CODE in its name.
Now click on Phone and select file with MODEM in its name.
Next click on CSC and select file with CSC in its name.
At last click on PIT and select file with .pit.
Step 7) Again to to ODIN window and check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options.
Step 8) Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the installation process. The process will take few minutes to complete.
Step 9) When the installation is completed, your phone will restart. I hope that i helped you GoodLuck

I can't use Odin, there is no Linux version.
I've found the TWRP for the Note II:
HTML:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/115
Does anyone know if I flash the latest .img file from that using Heimdall will that give me a recovery to then install Super-SU from?
I've only just bought this phone and can't afford to buy another if I brick it, so I'm hesitant to just try without some expert knowledge.
you must be rooted first before putting twrp.

Ok, so how can I root it?
The only Linux tutorial I've found doesn't work since I can't get a working recovery in order to install Super-SU and get root.
Is there another way to get root? Or another method that might give me a recovery so I can get root?
Ok after you did the tutorial you got rooted or not ? download root check from play store and check

No I do not have root. I wish to get root access and install a recovery, then Super-SU.
Try this, It's a root way without odin.

You can get the mobile Odin that let's you flash firmware from the device itself.

Great! I'll get that to install TWRP or CWM then, since Heimdall seems to be corrupting the recovery when flashing it.
I've got root now (thanks to mario above!) so mobile odin is a good option
Thanks!

All of my posted recoveries work fine. You didn't follow the directions close enough. Make sure you flash the universal root.zip once you get the recovery working. If not, it will re-install the stock recovery automatically.
Please explain how you are trying to add TWRP or CWM to your device. Do not leave out any details. This what we can see if you are missing a step. It should be a very simple process if the steps are followed correctly (as mentioned above). So please explain how you are doing it and what tools you are using.

I think step 7 is where you might be going wrong. Again, I THINK, I could be mistaken. But I would say start the tablet in normal mode before attempting to go into recovery. After the tablet starts, go ahead and shut it down. Then try and go into recovery mode.
Also, did you start Odin as an administrator? It sounds like you are OK in that regard as you got it going and loading. But if you are still having problems then try executing Odin as administrator.
Which .tar file are you loading? Is it one of the recovery files such as TWRP or CWM?
The only other thing might be the version of recovery you are trying to load. Make sure it works with your tab and firmware. I am sure you have already checked that, but just in case you forgot.

Factory reset will not work. You will stay in kk4.4.2. And there is some situation with the boot loaders that are locked on kitkat.... not sure if you can roll back to jb.

If I understand you correctly, your Galaxy Tab 8.0 is currently on 4.4.2 - either NE9 or NG1. You tried to use ODIN and flash the MK1 (4.2.2), but it failed.
Firstly, I haven't downgraded modem or the whole firmware myself on my Galaxy Tab 3, but I did it for my Galaxy S4 phone. It requires that you flash it twice. Here is what I would do.
1. Go back to SamMobile, and download the Kitkat firmware that you currently have (NE9 or NG1). Use ODIN to flash it and make sure that ODIN is working. This serves as your safety net; i.e., whenever things go wrong, you know you can at least bring your tablet back to a working state.
2. Now try to downgrade just the modem (not the entire firmware).
Read Post #19 on this page. This is what you need to do for "flashing the modem twice with ODIN".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/modem-4-4-2-i337mumufne3-t2815999/page2
To get your own modem.bin file, you need to extract it from the md5 file:
- find the MK1 md5 file you downloaded from SamMobile earlier,
- unzip it, and you will see the modem.bin file
3. Finally, use ODIN to flash the entire firmware (MK1 md5).
Proceed at your own risk.
Good luck.

I'm tried. But I failed again. Sorry I'm Turkish. I'm not understand you. Do you know turkish?

Try this:
GalaxyTab3 Toolkit v1.1
Get the TWRP recovery installed on your GTab, then flash the GalaTab ROM. It's not hard, it just seems like it from some of the failures and horror stories.
I'm no expert, but I'll try to describe what to do. NOTE: There may be other ways to do it, but this is what I did.
Do you have a recovery (TWRP or CWM) on your tab? If not, that's the first thing you need to do. You are going to need to install Kies, Odin and then the Toolkit.
Note: TWRP works with the GalaTab ROM, and it's fairly simple to use. Install TWRP so we are all on the same page.
Lots of stuff, but the goal is to get a recovery on your Tab. Once all this is installed, start the Toolkit and connect your Tab to the PC. The Toolkit has great instructions, so follow those.
Once you have done all of that and you have a working recovery, get the GalaTab ROM onto your Tab and flash away.
Get a recovery onto your Tab first, and the rest is easy. Try just getting a recovery working and post your results and we'll go from there.
Note: This is for the SM-T310 only!

Sorry, I don't speak French or Turkish!
I found this on the Samsung ROM page:
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T310 TUR T310XWUAMG3 Android 4.2.2 23.07.2013 1174257 Unlock Download File
I'm assuming that will be in Turkish from the start. It SHOULD be the ROM that would come stock on a GTab 3 purchased in Turkey.
Is it a language barrier causing trouble flashing your tablet? Perhaps we could try screen caps to help. Wish I could be more helpful.

I don't know Turkish either. You can try translating using Google. Copy and paste the following text at the following website:
Ben de Türkçe bilmiyorum. Google'ı kullanarak çeviri deneyebilirsiniz. Kopyalama ve aşağıdaki web sitesinde aşağıdaki metni yapıştırın:

I agree with Tromatic. If you are still having problems, forget custom ROM or recovery, just go back to factory using ODIN. But...
Since you already have a French ROM with 4.4.2, you need to use a Turkish ROM in 4.4.2. Unfortunately, the only Turkish ROM available on SammMobile is 4.2.2 ROM (which Tromatic kindly provided a link above). It is unclear whether we can flash a ROM with an older version using ODIN. So you need to try it and find out.
Flashing of factory ROM is best done using ODIN. To begin, you need to make sure that ODIN is working.
You need a Windows computer, with the proper Samsung driver installed. Also search and download Odin 3.09, and have it ready to run.
The Turkish 4.2.2 ROM is linked in the post above by Tromatic. Download that.
To use ODIN, follow this guide:
http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-tutorials/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s4-and-remove-root-completely/
Step 1. Power off your tablet and hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power button together for about 5 seconds.
Step 2. When you see the warning screen, hit Volume Up button to enter ODIN Download mode.
Step 3. Connect a micro-USB cable from your tablet to your computer.
Step 4. Download and run ODIN 3.09 program.
Step 5. Unzip the stock firmware, you should find a file ending in “tar.md5″. That is the stock firmware you will flash using ODIN.
Step 6. DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE but hit the PDA button, select the stock firmware “tar.md5″ file and hit “Start” button. That’s it. This should take around 5-10 minutes. If you get stuck right after hitting “Start” button, try another USB port and turn off Kies in Task Manager.
Step 7. When done successfully, you will see “PASS!” and your tablet will reboot.
If for some reason, you get “FAIL!” during the ODIN flashing process, simply reboot your tablet into ODIN download mode and try again. Also, if you see some type of “Firmware error” during boot, just try running ODIN in that mode, that’s same as ODIN download mode.
Step 8. Once rebooted, your tablet should be fully back to stock firmware.
Step 9. If for some reason, your tablet doesn’t boot up or you want to erase EVERYTHING on your internal storage and the phone for returning for warranty, you can do a factory reset using stock recovery.
Power off your phone (or pull battery) and hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power buttons together.
Step 10. Keep holding down Volume Up and Center Home buttons but let go of Power button.
Step 11. Once in stock recovery, choose “wipe data/factory reset”.
Step 12. Choose “delete all user data”. WARNING! This will ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!
Step 13. Once done, reboot system.
Step 14. Once rebooted, you should find your Galaxy S4 completely back to Day 1 you got the phone, congrats!
If you are not successful in flashing the 4.2.2 Turkish ROM, go back and flash the French 4.4.2 ROM.
You can download the French 4.4.2 ROM from here:
http://samsung-updates.com/details/30982/Galaxy_Tab_3_8.0/SM-T310/XEF/T310XXUBNG1.html
Repeat the above steps, but use the different ROM file.

sorry for my bad english
Two options I see:
1. Try to restore your device using Kies3
2. Flash newest firmware (get it from sammobile) for your region using PC-Odin.
Putting "need help urgently please :'(" does not help you in any way, in fact it makes it more likely that people will simply ignore the topic. Topic titles need to be descriptive, not generic non-descriptive.
Your problem is that like many newbies you cant be bothered to do research, read and learn before messing around with your device.
You should boot into download mode and flash a stock rom. Preferably a older one that doesn't have knox. Then flash a stock rom(without knox) in recovery mode. All the info you need is here on forum.

i forgot to tell that one of the things changed that my mobile lost the usb support in the normal mode as there is no change when i connect it to my pc except it charges only but it works in the download mode and when i reflash the stock rom v 4.3 the screen freezes after a few seconds of turning it on and i have to remove the battery .. do you think that flashing the 4.4.2 sthock rom will make a change ? as the solution of kies isn't possible due to the lack of usb support !
is there a way to format the sectors that the pation " param " which flashed by the sumsung star dous stock rom is in it and make that conflict to delete that ??
What was your last stock rom on your device before messing up?
I do absolutely not agree with those horror tales about knox, most people don't use and easily get rid of.
Do you remember your last bootloader? MK4 or above? Then don't take any risk by flashing 4.3 firmware and go straight ahead to 4.4.2.
It will be the safest way to get a working device again.

So you can also try the NA1 firmware, but nothing beneath that. NA1 is a knox enabled BL, so whatever you flash successfully will have Knox in it.
DON'T TICK REPARTITION!

OK, I see. Try a wipe from stock recovery, wipe all possible.
Another option: Kies!
I know, you said not recognized but you must get it to work. Uninstall all drivers from PC an re-install drivers until Kies can restore your device.
Very last option: Find a Samsung repair near to you.

As you mentioned you already have been on NA1 firmware and as it seems you have flashed latest 4.4.2 with "a kind of success" I find it hope- and useless to even try this rescue rom. Bootloader is the reason why you can't successfully flash. NO DOWNGRADE POSSIBLE.

Can you illustrate your words ? For kies it's unpossible to connect my mobile to any pc the drivers works perfectly for any similarphone the fault is in my mobile not the driver and for sumsung care it will be high cost as the warranty ended ! And I wipe every thing possible through the stock recovery but noyhing changed !
I am beginning to lose my patience cause you don't follow my advice or even don't consider that I am right.
Look into system on your PC if there is an unknown device.
Whenever hardware is connected to PC Windows starts to search for drivers.
It doesn't matter that other devices are recognized correctly.
Wipe all Samsung drivers and re-install. Even re-install Kies too.
Start Kies and try restoration, maybe it will fail, but try. AND with current drivers you are supposed to fail.
At last: Try to find a friend with knowledge who can help you at your home or his.

[Q] Need some helpful advice on updating

It's been a long bloody time since I fiddled around with stuff on this phone. So I'm still on a rooted 4.1.2.
My questions are is it worth the upgrade to KitKat? And if so, what's the easiest way for me to do so? Hopefully retaining root, but not too necessary.
Help would be appreciated. For dummies.
Hey there.
I've gone through the process myself recently. Here is what you should do :
1. Download a custom rom from the Android Development forum. For example I downloaded the DN3 v5.2, but whatever catches your eye is fine.
2. Just follow the instructions the rom' s topic states.
3. If you have trouble getting to the recovery mode, you should flash with Odin some custom recovery. I like the cwm recovery.
4. Most guides provide info how to root your phone but if not then there is a topic in the Android Development forum about it.
I suggest backing up everything you can before- copy the phone contents to your pc, run the efs professional program to backup your efs.
Cheers

Hi there. I'm using n7100. N7105 is not far different to n7100. I've recently upgraded my phone from 4.3 to 4.4. I can't see a big difference from the 2 version except 4.4 consumes more battery than 4.3. I think you should consider 4.3 first before going straight to 4.4.
Just to inform you. What I know is...4.3 and 4.4 Official Rom already have Knox. So maybe you should read about them first. And Flashing Custom Recovery like PhilzTouchRecovery may trigger your Knox and increase your Binary Counter. And you may loose your warranty.
Flashing and rooting stock ROM is easy. But you have to do it right. What I did:
1. Download Odin
2. Download Samsung USB Drivers
3 Download 4.4 Firmware for my phone at sammobile.com
4. Install Samsung USB Driver
5. Run Odin
6. Put phone in Download Mode. Check if Odin successfully detected my phone
7. Once success, load the firmware to PDA Tab/Button. Don't touch anything
8. Press start. Wait till done. Wait till your phone reboot on it's own.
9. Once rebooted, check "About Device".
10. Done!
11. Download PhilzTouchRecovery 6.26
12. Put device into Download Mode again.
13. Run Odin again
14. Connect device again
15. Load PhilzTouchRecovery.tar.md5 to PDA Tab/Button
16. Uncheck Auto Reboot from Odin
17. Click start. Once Pass! Disconnect device.
18. Hold Power Button, DON'T RELEASE till you boot into your new recovery.
19. Once booted to PhilzRecovery, select reboot system now, but make sure not to overwrite with stock recovery or else you're PhilzRecovery will be reverted back to your stock recovery and you have to flash again your PhilzRecovery.
20. Once successfully flashed PhilzRecovery. Make all necessary backups (Full backup) you can't make EFS/MODEM backup yet because your not yet Rooted. You just installed Custom Recovery.
21. Once fully backed up. Copy backup files to your PC.
22. If you want to root again. Use CF-ROOT on 4.4.2 or use Dr.Ketan's Multi-Tool-Advance-V6 in 4.3. And follow their instructions.
Good Luck. HTH.

Very concise steps, cheers for that. Might give all that a try. Just need a safe rom. Not sure what. Is there anything else that needs flashing, like modem files or anything?
Thanks for both your comments.
Only the rom is necessary. Shouldn't flash modem and kernel etc unless something doesn't work.
All the roms published in xda are fine and safe. I just went for the topic with the most views.
If you want you can also download stock 4.3 from www.sammobile.com
Just choose your device and you get a file flashable with odin. About 1.9 giga download.

Your current Bootloader doesn't have Knox. So you better search for a 4.3 or 4.4 rom that doesn't flash new bootloader. I think i saw it somewhere in the development. If I were not mistaken, it should be flashed thru custom recovery. Coz it's a zip file.
All I know is all rom files from sammobile.com includes new kernel, bootloader and modem. So if you flash this roms from sammobile, you will have a new kernel, bootloader and modem. It's all up to you. If I were you, I'll stay away from Knox. So find a rom that supports your current bootloader. Maybe a custom one.
Maybe this will help...

Fair enough, thanks.
If I try the one below, think that'd work out alright? And which to use, deoxed or not?

Yeah nice find... It should work fine... you're on the 3rd status "For those are on the 4.1.2 bootloader the rom could work normally with AGNi Kernel include in rom". I think you should go for DEODEXED for more customization and etc. Read here: http://codeversed.com/deodexed-vs-odexed-rom/.
Make sure to follow instruction precisely and strictly. And make sure to copy your Backup to your PC right after you created it. Coz if you do a Full Wipe, Reset and Clean Install, it will also delete the backup that you made. Read the instructions multiple times carefully to avoid mislead. Once you done it successfully, you will be on Custom Rom and Custom Kernel. Sounds very techie. Hahaha. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice.
Really, I wanted to upgrade to Android L but then I saw it wasn't out yet so I was like...huh, KitKat time?
I'm not even sure if it'll be any better than what I have! Mostly just want something with better battery life. Even though I just bought a new battery that lets me use my phone for 3 days and a half hour. I have noticed that Screen/Android seem to be bleeding power a lot more these days, so figured it might be worth a wipe and an upgrade.
In any case, whenever I do, I have some handy guides now. Cheers~
