Hello,
I want to save my battery, is there any program to turn off your 3G (and only use 2G) when you don't need it?
It would be great if you can turn 3G on/off in the comm. manager
Try installing Schap's advanced Config for changing the buttons in Comm Manager to add a 3G button.
Or WMLL for optional 3G : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519

Okay thanks! looks nice... BUT...
I don't yet understand what's the difference between those 2 apps?
Schap's advanced Config can tweak a lot of things, and what WMLL does i don't know yet... i see only a lot of warnings not to use it to much bla bla bla...
The only thing i need is a switch between 2G and 3G, looks like Schap's advanced Config can do that, but i not installed it yet because i don't need the other options ... is there not a simple registery-hack or cab i can install to get a 3g switch at my comm. manager?

I dunno. Install Schaps Adv. Config, Change the Comm Manager and uninstall it if you don't want it any more.
WMLL is a program to disable 3G except when you use Opera or Google Maps. It's in early stages but the next release look promising.

I Installed Schaps Adv. Config and changed comm. manager, i do get a 3G on/off button, but the button doesn't do anything so that's not supported yet...

Anyone else have any ideas.

Bump. I also want to know how to do in in Comm Manager. I was able to do it in my TyTn II but using advanced config tool does not work - the 3G button is shown but clicking on it does not work. Can somebody please let us know how to fix this. Thanks.
Its a lot of clicks but what you can do is:
Start -> Settings -> All settings -> Personal -> Phone -> Band, and switch the network type box between Auto (depends on signal), GSM (2G) and WCDMA (3G).

Thanks Chainfire. I was already aware of this and just wanted to make it a few more clicks less - that's why I was asking if anybody knows how to fix the 3G button in Comm Manager as this is the easiest and fastest way for me to switch from GSM to AUTO (3G).
Check here, one touch will do it, if you map a shortcut of Toggle_Wcdma-Gsm.mscr into a hardware button, it's inside allinone attatchment.
Isn't disabling 3G the same as disabling the data connection (last item in the COMM MANAGER) ? I though that it's the same...
bandswitch and commmgrpro changes between 2g-3g-auto modes correctly on TouchPro2....

No. After disable 3G the phone can still use 2G data connection (GPRS & EDGE).
To disable data connection you need the Advanced Configure Tools or do the regi tweak by yourself. Edit: Seems also has some app called 'nodata', search for it.
Also, if you want disconnect (not completely disable) data connection, beside using the comm mgr, can use HTC EndKey app. That is more convinient than comm mgr.

Yes & more functionalities provided.
Ggreat app, Dani.
The T.I.R update has the feature built in and works great turns 3g on and off through the comm manager flawlessly, a hard reset is required before install but it makes it easy to do without anything but an single click. and it changes alot of the sickly green to a nice shade of blue
What about the NoData utility? Always worked for me, can't believe it hasn't been suggested already?
Here's the link http://htcdriver.com/index.php?page=nodata
Don't know if this is the latest version but seems simple enough to not need updating. This used to be installed by default on a lot of carrier branded ROMs but Vodafone decided to leave this one out this time on my TP2.
You simply toggle the connection to be on or off, simple as.

Becuse NoData disables the data connection but does not switch bands - and that´s what the OP wants.
Simple, elegant solution with no 3rd party app: create a link in Windows/Startmenu/Programs to "CMBandSwitching.exe" found in the Windows directory and map it to a hardware button - there you have HTC bandswitching interface.....good looking, easy and quick!

Ah, I overlooked that part of the question! Good solution though.
How much difference to the battery does switching the 3G connection off make incidentally? I'm guessing that the OP doesn't use data much if at all to consider switching the 3G off altogether?

Can´t give you exact figures. Fact is that a 3G/UMTS/HSDPA data connection uses a lot more power than a GPRS connection (no surprise....much higher speed). If you are not using data connections much, than 3G provides for longer standby times (if the signal quality is adequate) than 2G, however 2G provides longer talk times. So it depends on one´s usage pattern (amount of data traffic, amount of active calls etc.) which setting will yield the best battery performance...
also useful if 3g isn't even in your area, so as soon as mine gets here, i'm turning it completely off first thing. Long as the standby time is still a day+ then ill be fine with it. (id love 2 or 3 days out of it tho)
Does anybody know how to disable wispr on the at&t devices?
I have tried to look up the security aspects of wispr and haven't found much. I can tell it authenticates, but I can't tell if the connection is required to be encrypted. As such, I'd rather not connect to an AP I didn't ask it to connect to. Maybe there is a way to disable it thru the diagnostics app on Focus.
Thanks in advance.

It just connects you to ATT hotspots automatically and not any random wifi AP. If you are still paranoid, you can just disable wifi when not in use.
I understand it's only at&t hotspots, but I'm not sure how that helps. I have no idea what type of security if any is implemented on those hotspots.
I do realize I can simply turn off wifi, but I don't always remember do to that. The fact of the mater is they pushed out a change to my device that allows it to connect to aps that I simply didn't approve or set the device up for. I should be able to isolate this feature and turn it off.
Hey,
First off thanks for the root and roms that are available... Okay so a lot of the time im mostly in wifi areas... Now what would you guys recommend for an app that automatically enable/disable wifi? I used llama before but I noticed when I am not in a wifi area, wifi is still enabled and searching for a network which I assume is killing my battery... Now I just downloaded auto wifi enabler hoping this would work... I just want the wifi to be picked up when I am in one of my known networks and then automatically disabled when Im not...
Thanks!
Does anyone know how to stop the WiFi from turning on automatically ? I have all of the options for the WiFi off and I'll turn the WiFi of but my WiFi will still turn on and say there is a hotspot available.

You mean the options under Advanced in Wi-Fi settings you have off right? If so I am not sure I have not noticed my Wi-Fi coming on without me hitting the toggle.
Yes all the settings in advanced are unchecked,I will turn off my WiFi and next thing ya know I'm getting a notification that there is a hotspot available and sure enough my WiFi is on again! Its starting to get annoying that I get the hotspot notification all the time

That is odd, one of the options under advanced is to make it so it does not try to connect to hot spots in general, also the other says to make it not scan while Wi-Fi is off. If both those are unchecked and it is still happening then there is some sort of issue I would guess. Hopefully someone else with the issue pops in here after a bit.
Me too
Yes, this is happening to my Note 4 as well. All settings in WiFi>Advanced are "off" and when I go walking through the neighborhood and turn on the phone I get a screen showing a list of wi-fi networks.

Im gonna guess everyone has saw this already but thought i would post it anyway. In the advanced menu in wifi, there is a section called Always Allow Scanning. Description says "Let google location service and other applications scan for wifi networks, even when wifi is off". Sounds as if that could be the issue but if everything is already unchecked in the advanced settings menu, then im at a loss as well. Im gonna test this on my Note 4 and see if i am getting the same issue you guys are getting.
Nope no issues here i don't get that i turned it off, and i would know this cause if i walk in Walmart i use to get that on the the Wifi Hotspot not no more since i've turned it off, use to tell me the same for kmart or the AT&T Store where i live no more since i've turned it off!
Try disabling AT&T Smart Wifi. Could be the cause, especially if its alerting you to "hotspots".
I have the T Mobile version and it does the same. The white menu pops up telling that there is Wi Fi available, listing hotspots.
On my previous Note 3, it did not present itself as a page over my screen even if I had Wi Fi turned on. I simply had notifications of available wi fi's turned off. But it seems with the Note 4 one has to turn off wi fi completely for this to not show up?

Check in Location Services... Specifically the google stuff. One of them allows the use of your WiFi & GPS data even if they are turned off... Meaning if you choose the high accuracy mode (instead of GPS only) the location services will periodically turn those things on to better pinpoint your location (and send that data back to google)
Hello,
Here is the problem.* My phone is rooted with CF-Auto Root. I downloaded SuperSU successfully and then downloaded the .APK for Wifi Tether Router.
It successfully downloaded! * I open the application and go to configure WIFI ROUTER, I then receive a notification from the program saying, "WARNING You are currently using Android 4.3/4.4 If the network is not transmitted, disables (UNCHECK) the 'Scan always available' from the screen that appears.*
That message was verbatim from what my phone was saying.
Once I close the message the phone automatically opens my phones IP settings. Network notification tab is unable to be turned on and of, it is currently selected as "ON", and Passpoint is currently selected as "off".
I press the back option on my phone and it takes me back to the configuration screen for "Wifi Tether Router". I then begin to change my device settings starting with method. I choose* Method 3-(HostApd) and press back. I choose WLAN0 as my interface. I scroll down to Prevents Stand By and make sure IT IS checked. after that I Make sure that HostApd Patch is checked off as well.
I scroll down to APN settings and my screen is completely grayed out with all the different Access Point Names unavailable. the ADD option is also grayed out.
I then set my Hot spot settings.
ssid- wififorme
encryption - wpa2-psk
wifi password -* ihatecheeseburgers
wifi channel- 1
*
Im done at this point. I press back and I am at the home screen for the program. I select ENABLE WIFI ROUTER and phone request ask me to grant* access. I do. The phone disables router then resets the radio and the phone is enabling WiFi Router.... waiting... phone grants access and it displays my wifi settings.
The program is now running at this point but is not sending data or receiving it. I jump on my laptop and the wifi network is not showing up either.
What did I do wrong and how can I fix this issue?

I have the same issue and I can't get wifi hotspot working on my phone either. I want to use it to play my chromecast in my car.
Did you ever figure it out?
