Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....
Hey guys, so im running the energy ROM on my tp2 and it works great, however I have problems connecting to secure wifi sometimes. WIFI Monster says I am connected, but Im really not. When i try to go to my comm manager and connect I get this message "Pocket PC Networking: Cannot obtain a server-assigned IP Addres. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network Settings."
Any advice? How do I go about finding a suitable IP address? I tried to renew it in the Advanced options from the Comm Manager, but it didn't work.
Noob in need of some help please thanks!
is there anyway I can connect my phone the internet through my computer? that could partially solve my problem. I tried using internet sharing but it says you need to tmobile data or tmobile internet as the Connection source (ie not the computer)

Yeah...when you're connected via USB/Activesync you can use the PC's data connection on your phone, you just have to enable that option in activesync or WMDC, whichever you use. The option is just labeled "allow data connections when connected via USB"
Much thanks Sir Phunkee haha

No prob...it's something commonly not known with new users
On your original problem connecting to a secure wifi network...did it give you the screen where you enter your network password? And is this a network at your home, or..?
Gee, thanks! But the first time it did (its my home network). I set it up to automatically put the WEP Key in and it rarely pops up anymore. When I try to connect at my school it never drops, if it does, I went out of the range of the wifi.
Also, I just enabled the data connection and it worked. Sweetness!
I just reflashed my phone to the New Energy ROM and it connected to the internet first try. Hopefully this is a pattern
EDIT: Im not sure if I would liek to keep it this way because it was really glitchy :\ ugh

Well at least you've proven that it's not a harware issue, and it's possible to get it to work. Before you think about flashing back to stock or another ROM, first go through all related settings and take note of what the NRG ROM set them to, it may just be matter of duplicating them all again when you get a ROM on there you're happy with
thanks for everything! its much appreciated.
Tried this with my home network. I've enabled data connection and used the HEX key to enter code successfully, but I always get error, "Could not locate remote server" when trying to connect to any website. Can someone please help me with this issue? Thanks.
I would like to invite everyone to try if they have the same problem
For me, I have done a lot of testing, and I have found that, with any open WiFi hotspot (ones doesn't require wifi password to connect, with captive login or not), even G4 saved the network, half times it won't autoconnect.
When you go into wifi setting, the network is there, and there is an message below the nextwork saying:
"internet is unavailable, cannot autoconnect"
But if you tab it manually, it will connect and fine. I tested it with multiple hotspots and all have the same problem. I tried all different ways like delete the networks and re-add, nothing works.
Any of you have same problem please confirm below and let us know if you have found a solution, this is yet another ridiculous problem LG4 has and not fixing it, who are they to decide internet is available or not on a wifi hotspot?
my G4 is 812 10c
Any one encounter the same problem?
Yes I have this issue also. Don't know what would be causing the problem

Thanks for confirming,
Very annoying issue and I am surprised it hasn't be raised and discussed in here.
For me it is way worse than occasional touch issue
Any solutions will be appreciated

I can confirm I have the same issue with mine. Very annoying.
Thanks for confirming, again showing it's not an isolated instance.
Is this issue only for Hotspots? Or any Wifi device? I ask, because I don't see a problem with my WiFi router at home.

For me it is only for open Wi-FI (no password required to connect), the tend to be public hotspots.

That underlined bit is interesting.
so it seems this only occurs with open networks ie ones that don't require a userid/pass.
otherwise you have no problems connecting when there required login is required and is saved already.
eg. your home wifi ?
some more reading led me to this post.
My G4 doesn't have any problem with the open network at my work. It connects automatically as soon as I drive in the parking lot, if I leave and come back, as soon as I'm in range it re-connects just fine.

Have we considered this might be done on purpose as a safety thing?
You shouldn't want your phone/laptop connecting to any OPEN network automatically that you haven't vetted. This is how scammers skim passwords, etc., by offering 'free' wifi hotspots in busy areas.

Not quite, it happens on open networks that I have connected to before i.e. saved and as you put it vetted.
Connecting to saved networks that are passkey protected works fine.
Yes that's right, for me the network that requires password has no problem to auto connect
And the post you linked for refresh DHCP, I tested and it doesn't solve the problem

Then there is no problem here is there ?
I also have this problem.
To clarify, my situation is for open wifi where the provider redirects you to a webpage where you click "ok" or "accept" to proceed.
The first time I connect, it's fine. But, when my phone tries to auto-connect the next day, it gives the error described. So, I have to manually open up wifi connections, view the list, select the wifi name, and connect.
So it works fine after some manual intervention, but there is a bug I think in how the G4 handles these types of open wifi connections, once they are saved in the phone's history and you try to connect again later. So there is a problem here, but it's somewhat nuanced and easy to miss.

Your description sums up the situation well.
Doing what you want could create a problem of another sort. read this.
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/64380/stop-wifi-connecting-to-open-networks
No this is not the same.
i only want G4 to autoconnect to network I saved before, meaning the one i have used before and want to use it again.
The problem you are referring to is having android auto connect to random networks, which of course should not happen.
Also G4 currently does not connect to open wifi that doesnt require login either. Even it clear have good internet connection, it wont reconnect, which is clearly a bug

see this is where it gets tricky, that post was referring to networks set up by a telco around the city. the ssid is the same its not a random network. This is exactly what you want.
you accepted it when you were in location a, now you are at location b and want to connect. so it should connect automatically ie no different than if you were to return back to location a.
You said home wifi works, so leaving wifi on, walk out of range and then come back in range and it connects automatically. And you expect the same behaviour with an open wifi that you accepted prior.
Way i understood it is that guy is complaining about what you want with open wifi
Thanks for clarifying.
I went back to re-read the post you pointed out. OP of the thread wants to block all the open wifi hotspots with paywall. It is not because he/she used one paywall network work in location A and doesn't want to use it again in location B. OP never used the paywall network (because it charges) and doesn't want to ever connect to it again, in that case, delete it from the saved network list should solve the problem.
In fact, Op also wants to use non-paywall open wifi, which is same as what I want here with G4. We both have the same need, which is auto re-connect to known, used, and trusted network. Here is exactly G4 cannot do and clearly having a problem. As I said before, even for network that is open, no paywall, and no log in required, G4 simply cannot auto connect, and claim "internet is unavailable", which is false and need to be fixed. Furthermore, even if there is a captive login, G4 should not refuse to auto connect before informing user so. While LG clearly has no problem sending tons of notification for their bloated LG smart notices, right now there is no single notice about WiFi auto connect failure, you will only discover the problem after you open WiFI set up page.
I copied OP's own words from the other thread FYI
"here are random open wifi networks everywhere that allow my Android to connect to their network but won't give internet access because there is a paywall"
"There are a wide variety of providers like BTOpenZone. I'd like to block them all, adding exceptions if I ever find a non-paywall connection"

I was just wondering...
I called AT&T tech support and they didn't understand what I was talking about, however they swore that this system is SECURE.
The H810 recently got the 21y update which makes it the second AT&T phone to get the Wifi calling option. Its a cool feature, but I WILL NOT do this on a public LAN. Here is why:
1) on a telephony network, a phone can not connect to another phone because they are on a sub-network that doesn't allow for multiple devices to communicate.
2) on a LAN network, I can samba share because the network is not set to the level of security as the phone network is.
3) I can Wireshark my network, find the VOIP data packets, string them together, & rebuild the audio file of the wifi calling conversation
4) Cain & Able has an auto tool that does this, but you have to know how to arp poison if there are firewalls.
How secure is this? As secure as the Wifi network you're on...
What are your thoughts?
Anyone willing to create a Youtube of this?
I am really busy & may not get the chance to do this for another month or so...

I'm fairly certain it uses IPsec, so I'm guessing it's secure.
Hello, I have 2 Moto z2 play XT1710-07, one of them I've never "messed with", just OTA updates, the other one I unlocked, locked, etc,
Both have IMEI and are on Stock Pie PPS29.133-30 and both of them suffer from wifi drops when the screen is off / slow connection after some time.
I'd like to solve this, maybe downgrade to OREO or go to a NON-STOCK, or some other solution, whichever is easier.
Can anyone give me a hand please? Thanks guys!
PS: I have already tried factory reset, and also the "shut down wifi & bt search" solution, no go. (sorry if not the right words - Brazilian user)
Up, help please!
No one? ?
I don't have enough information to diagnose your problem. You should use the device help and see if there are any issues with your Wireless Lan adapter that way. Then you might want to see if the issue with the disconnects occurs while your phone is in Safe Mode. Then you also might want to enable Wi-FI Verbose Logging in the developer's options so you can get information about your WiFi connection. Which WiFI band are you connecting to? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? You could make sure that the developer option Mobile Data always active is turned off and then turn off mobile data to only connect via WiFi. You could disable all battery savers so that when the screen is turned off it doesn't shut off anything else. That's just some of the things you can try but it could be any number of things which causes the issue you have.

Thanks man! This is a VERY common issue on this Brazilian version, there is a GIANT topic on the official lenovo PT Forum, it's a major problem. I guess i'll have to go the a custom rom.
