I can walk you through it. It's not too complicated. There's a couple ways to unlock the phone;
**Install LS980 drivers if you haven't already. You can find them all over the internet by simply searching google**
#1. Root the phone with Ioroot 25 if you are on 4.4.2, and if you are below that then root with Ioroot 22 for 4.2.2. Ioroot download instructions can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522346
#2 Download the T-Mobile Rom http://savoca.co/dr87/D801_4.4.2_Recovery.zip, The LS980 Baseband http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407584588, and lastly the LS980 Kernel https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407591371
#3. Once all three files have been downloaded put your phone connection in MTP mode, then copy and paste each file onto the root of your internal storage of your phone. This will take about 3 to 5 minutes depending computer speed.
#4. After you've completed the root, go ahead and download the LS980 auto rec.apk from Couldyfa here http://bit.ly/g2_AutoRec Place that apk on the root of your phone as well, and then install the apk from your phones file browser. After you're done installing the Auto Rec, open it. It will downgrade the bootloader, flash a lokified recovery, and you will boot into TWRP Recovery. Good work! You're almost done!
#5. Make a nandroid backup in TWRP by tapping backup, then swiping. Once that's done wipe data factory reset, wipe dalvik and wipe cache.
#6. Now navigate to install and then flash the T-Mobile rom, the LS980 Baseband, and lastly the LS980 Kernel.
#7. If all flashes correctly, simply reboot and you will be on a T-Mobile rom, unlocked for use with any GSM carrier on your Sprint LG LS980. The T-Mobile rom will ask you to perform a software update when connected to wifi, DO NOT DO THIS, IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. When you connect to the wifi and it asks for this update, simply hold your finger down on the update notification in the drop down, and tap "app info", then uncheck show notifications. From here on out you should be good to go! If I helped you please let me know by giving thanks!
Sincerely, Terrell at Phone Geniuses.

Then i just put in my sim card?
Place it in Root file?

After everything has completed, simply enter the sim card. You will need to reboot the phone as you cannot enter
the sim card with the phone turned on. Once rebooted, with sim card in phone, you should have text and talk, possibly internet connection.
If you are not showing data, simply add the APN settings for you carrier, under settings, tethering and networks, mobile networks, access point names (apn) from there input your carriers apn settings and then save. You should be rolling with data, talk, and text!
Please thank me if this guide helped you successfully unlock your phone!

Thanks guys i got my phone unlocked
But using the twrp and cloudyg3 rom
Att is a no no but t mobile works fine!!!

[Q] Unlock bootloader not found anywhere online

Hey guys. I'm very new and have spent the last few days researching about how the whole rooting, unlocking sim, unlocking bootloader, flashing radios and installing customer ROM's work.
From what I understand the process all start with having an unlocked bootloader so that you can install a recovery like TWRP. From there, you can flash ROM's, radios and kernels (if you want to) via zip files, from an micro sd card.
**please let me know if I understand this process correctly**
The problem is, I can't find a single place online (searched on this site and on google for over an hour straight last night) that actually tells you specifically for my model I317M with 4.1.1 (if that matters, I'm not sure) HOW to unlock the bootloader. I've seen a lot of people asking and no answers.
If someone could please tell me exactly HOW to unlock the bootloader for my phone that'd be amazing.
Is flashing the bootloader done via odin? (there is an option in odin for it) If not, how do you flash a bootloader?

You are lucky to have the device you do because the bootloader isn't locked! Some carriers lock the bootloader on some devices (it varies, like note 2 on at&t is unlocked but note 4 is locked). Some manufacturers even offer instructions or tools to unlock (ie htc offers Dev tools, on Google's nexus line it's a simple adb command "fastboot oem unlock").
Now for the i317, the procedure is simple. Gain root access with cf auto root (it's a tar.md5 file you flash with Odin. As a side note: Odin is a tool you will come to love because it can fix nearly anything you break. Just load the stock firmware for your device in Odin, flash and done. From there you can reroot or remain stock). Once you have root access after flashing cf auto root, have your custom recovery tar.md5 on hand to also flash in Odin.
So Odin, cf auto root, and recovery of your choice. (To flash the phone with Odin, the phone must be in download mode: vol-, home, power. Connect to computer and load up Odin)
Once you have flashed your root files and recovery, you can then enter recovery by holding vol+, home, and power, make a backup of your current stock setup, and then flash whatever rom you like as long as it's compatible with your device.
One more piece of advice: if you want to do anything like carrier unlock the device, I would do it now while you're on 4.1.1. In kitkat 4.4.2 and above some of the built in functionality of dialer codes and such were removed by Samsung... and people looking to carrier unlock who have already updated have to go through the tedious downgrade procedure to do so. Therefore, if that is something you are planning on needing at some point (or to just up the resale value of the device a bit), go ahead and root + recovery, then carrier unlock the device using dialer codes as specified in some of these threads. Then you can flash whatever you want and nothing can undo that unlock (mine is an att i317 on tmobile, so I highly recommend carrier unlock, you never know when you might need it!) Just do it before you move from 4.1.1 if you do want to do it
Good luck

Wow! Thanks a lot for that detailed reply. I wasn't expecting that
I managed to get a recovery installed and working. I've tried two ROMs today and that was neat. ( I put them on the external sd card and flashed the .zip from recovery ). Now my main problem is, finding a ROM that actually works decently (any suggestions would be nice) and unlocking the sim.
Now, I was on 4.1.1. and when I was there, I followed these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 and it seemed to have worked. It went just like the steps said it would.
Then, I actually went to a WIND mobile store today and asked if I could use a SIM to see if it would work with their network. It didn't (their network didn't show up on my phone )
I've since then tried that old method again but I am getting this error "connection problem or invalid mmi code" So I couldn't try doing that again.
Now I'm kinda stuck. I have been trying to find out if I can flash the radio with some firmware to fix it but I've had no luck finding anything.
I know this is a newish problem, but if you can guide me in the right direction or help me out I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I might just have to buy a new phone.

Im at work so I don't have a lot of time to explain, but the unlock probably worked fine. However, when you add a new Sim, you also have to program the access point name (or more commonly, APN). If you don't set the apn, the phone won't know which network to connect to. You may use a wind sim but if you still have the apn set for tmobile, it's gonna look for tmobile's network.
Apns can be configured under settings > more networks > mobile networks > access point names. You can have multiple apns programmed and switch between them as often as you switch sim cards. Search for wind apn and you'll figure it out (I keep a text file with lists of tmobile and at&t apns just in case.
Also you probably flashed a newer rom where Samsung/Google have removed the built in dialer codes, so you won't be able to use them anymore, but you can launch the codes you need using shortcut master (an app) where you can find the code you need and launch it fine with root permissions.

Help Needed to read SIM on unrooted S3- NO SIGNAL

Ok So I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy s3 (SGH-T999L) (LTE Version). I previously rooted it and installed custom ROM using Cyanogenmod, then changed to TWRP later. Then, i wanted to revert to stock and unrooted my phone. I was told to install latest firmware and did so (Android 4.3 T999LUVUBOH1). Since then, i went from T-Mobile to MetroPCS. The phone is unlocked. When trying to use metropcs sim card on s3, it works for about 5 minutes (able to call & text), then all of a sudden i get NO SIGNAL and cannot do ANYTHING! I used my husband's metropcs sim card and same thing happened. Then, I tried my mom's AT&T sim card and it did seem to work fine for awhile. I tried accessing mobile networks to change APN while I had my mom's sim in there and was able to but when i insert my sim card it says: "Insert Sim to access network services" and there IS a sim in there. Our sims work fine on other phones. I don't understand what's going on. I've tried to flash a modem and even rooting it again, but Odin keeps failing or not responding. I cannot flash ANYTHING!!! Please help!
Flash back to a stock ROM and make sure everything works. Once this is done, call MetroPCS to see if they need to register the phone's imei on their system.
Thanks. It had official stock Rom already on it. I can try again if Odin decides to work for me. I have USB debugging on. I'll let you know what happens. I will also call Metro PCS. thanks again.

Need help unlocking LG G2 LS980 flashed to boost mobile.

Hey, I just need someone to point me to the right direction.
I bought my LG G2 off ebay last year, it came flashed to boost mobile. All I need to do is flash it back to sprint and unlock the GSM on the phone.
I just found this forum and don't know where to start in this process..
Im on 5.0.2
Software version LS980ZVI
Model # LS980
Thank you if you can help
this thread has everything you need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/general/ls980-lollipop-update-root-sim-unlock-t3357837
After you install TWRP successfully but before you unlock the sim card, You can install the latest version ZVI that is already rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/development/rom-ls980-stock-5-0-2-zvi-flashable-t3303163
for unlocking the SIM card I would use this procedure instead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/general/ls980-lollipop-update-root-sim-unlock-t3357837
Thank you !!
Since you are on ZVI already, you could try the steps in this thread

Hey I did all the steps and got it unlocked but I cant to get my simple mobile sim card to work.
When I select the network mode global I have full bars, but when I try gsm/umts all my bars go away.
The phone is reading the sim card, but im not able to make calls/text. I Also get a authentication error when I try to update the prl/profile settings
did you do the twoclick procedure to unlock the sim card?
did you edit your apn? from the dialer, dial ##3282#
i am on freedompop so i changed my apn to freedompop.foggmobile.com. Simple mobile might require it to be mvno.att.net or something like that( i used that for airvoice).

Yep I did the two click method but on both of my sims my phone refuses to connect/ find networks. I get emergency calls only.
I used a freedompop sim too and changed my apn to freedompop.foggmobile.com. but it still wont connect to the network. When I go into the freedompop messenger app it says. I dont have any data.

that;s strange. It worked for me as soon as I added my APN. Does your phone see the APN for three.co.uk and 3hotspot when you have the freedompop SIM in there?
I don;t even use the Freedompop Messenger app. i just use the sim for data. i can test the functionality of the sim slot because I have a freedompop CDMA/Sprint sim card along with a GSM one.
there are a couple of other ways to unlock the sim slot-they're all based on the same way so don;t know if anything will be different. there is a simfree.exe and there is a thread by someone named summercat for a 1 click procedure. try one of those

yep thats the first apn I see "three.co.uk"
im gonna tot back to zv8 and try this one more time or im just gonna go with ring plus or ting.
But thanks for all the help.
And you used ##3282# to add the new apn, correct?
I would go down to zve, then do the Ota update from sprint to zvg or zvh, then do the unlock and root and sim unlock. It's worked fine for me on zvh and zvi.

Yep, I enabled the lte/cdma, rebooted, then enabled gsm, rebooted and I got it to say freedompop on the lockscreen but after a couple of min. It went back to searching for networks.
im gonna try zve to zvg with the two click method
Good luck. The way you know it is supposed to be correctly installed is that your boot animation changes for the yellow sprint spark animation to some swirly wavy rainbow. The carrier image gets swapped to a gsm version.

Stuck on HTC load screen after attempted rooting

Recently got a sprint HTC One M8 to transfer my service to. Being a noob I thought this would be a simple process, so suffice to say 24 hours ago I didn't even know what APN settings were, and that's what launched me down this rabbit hole of trying to unlock my bootloader, flash a new recovery, and s-off my phone all so I can get to the damn APN settings. So I followed the "wonder how to bootloader unlock" instructions (2nd result if you google that phrase because I can't put links in here) almost exactly and got my bootloader unlocked successfully and rebooted with no issues. I downloaded superSU-2.79 onto my phone, downloaded twrp-3.0.2 to my computer and then flashed it. I forgot to clear my caches before booting and it got stuck on the HTC screen, so I rebooted it in recovery mode and wiped my caches (yes, including dalvik) and rebooted again with the same issue.
So now i'm kind of at a loss, I don't know if I should try to reflash with the sdcard method using the stock RUU or a TWRP file. I feel like I made some obvious fundamental mistake that I didn't recognize and well, I kinda need a working phone so any help would be greatly appreciated! :fingers-crossed:

Can u post a pic of your bootloader screen .
Power off phone .
Press POWER+ VOLUME DOWN .
click pic and upload here .
If you are having s-off phone then be caution while flashing RUU . A GSM RUU can hardbrick your device .
Post a pic of bootloader i will post the links of the specific files .
If you dnt want to go through the RUU route then flashing a custom rom is best option now .

U have a sprint htc m8 ( Harman kardon edition).
The easiest option is download a stock rooted rom or a custom rom.
Stock rooted rom --(credits to @Captain_Throwback)
https://basketbuild.com/filedl/devs?_e_pi_=7,PAGE_ID10,6926975543
Procedure -
Same as custom rom.
There are many custom rom in ANDROID DEVELOPMENT SECTION . Download anyone and flash zip via recovery .
Procedure:-
Download custom rom zip
Reboot to recovery
Wipe - advance wipe - data, cache, dalvik, system
Install - select rom zip
If u want sprint ruu .( credits to @OMJ)
U have to relock bootloader for this to flash .
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?_e_pi_=7,PAGE_ID10,2505757169
Procedure:
Download RUU.
Rename to 0P6BIMG and place in root of SD card .
Reboot bootloader and Relock bootloader via fastboot commands .
Place sd card in phone
Again reboot to bootloader
It will automatically read the RUU.
Proceed with RUU.

Any conflicting view is simply incorrect. You do NOT need s-off to flash ROMs (with TWRP). Folks who say you need s-off are wrongly referencing older HTC devices (where you had to manually fastboot flash the kernel, or otherwise have s-off for the kernel to flash). Or the other exception is the Verizon version (which prohibits unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev.com, therefore s-off is required) which also does not apply to your device.
Thanks a bunch guys, I've been busy with work all weekend but I'm giving it a try today, I'll let you know how it goes. Also thanks for pointing me to an appropriate ROM, I was having trouble deciding what to use

Ooooohkay, so I eneded up downloading ViperOneM8_6.1.0 and installed it with no problems, phone booted up in like 45 seconds and seems to be working great. Now I'm trying to do the last bit of S-Offing the sona ***** with firewater and when i go to reboot it with adb i get this: "This adbd's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set; try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device." I've looked it up and tried to delete the adbkey.pub and adbkey under C:/Users/$Name/.android but it still comes up with the same message. Any suggestions?

firewater won't work, no matter what you do. firewater requires an online server component, which the devs took offline in December 2014. So the firewater method no longer works since then.
Currently, Sunshine ($25) is the only working s-off method.
But what exactly do you want s-off for? Most folks don't need it. You don't need s-off for flashing ROMs, kernel, root, or a great many other things (s-on is fine for those).

uh... oh, well that's one vital piece of knowledge i missed, didn't realize it was an online thing. That's what is so ridiculous about this, all i need to do is change my apn settings and name and switch to gsm to get access to my current provider's network and i'm having to do all this just to be able to access those settings and sim unlock my phone. If there's another way to get that done I haven't found it, being all locked up tight by Sprint and all. Feels like i'm taking a real scenic route to get to the destination.

Are you implying that accessing the APN settings will SIM unlock the phone? Or you are trying to SIM unlock the phone and also access the APN settings?
Not only are they 2 different things, but I don't believe s-off will help with either of them.
With Viper on the phone, you should be able to change the APN settings. Is that not what you are finding?
Also, no amount of changing the APN settings will result in anything, if the phone is SIM locked. There is not working mod to unlock the SIM. Your best bet is probably to buy the code from an online vendor (around $10).

No I know that won't sim unlock the phone, I already have a sim unlock code but can't get into the apn settings to put the thing into my phone, and no, calling any combination of *765# will not input it and my phone doesn't automatically ask for sim unlock code. I also thought that having viper would solve that problem, but when i go into my connections to change it the apn settings are still blanked out, unable to be selected. From what I understand, the S-ON status is keeping me from accessing those menus, like I said, scenic route there all to just change the apn.

Oh my god.... I just changed the network mode (which i didn't realize i had access to) to gsm/umts only and it allowed me to open the apn settings, now however, I can't add any new apns, the add symbol is blanked out like the menu options before.

I've never seen anyone enter a SIM unlock code through the APN menu. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I've never heard of anyone doing it that way.
Typical method, is when you insert another carrier's SIM, the phone will ask for the code. Are you saying you inserted your carrier's SIM (non-Sprint), and it didn't ask for the SIM unlock code?
You would probably then have to enter your carrier's APN info, in order to get cell internet service. But the SIM should work for voice and SMS without even touching the APN settings; as those only apply to cell internet/data.

So you can't add a new APN, and you are locked out from changing the individual settings on the existing APN (presumably Sprint APN).
The Sprint CDMA variant has some peculiarities, and I can't claim to know for sure. But on the GSM M8 versions, even if the APN settings for the carrier are locked (can't change the existing APN), you can usually still add a new APN. So its unusual to see the option (to add a new APN) locked out, especially on a custom ROM.

Last night after looking around some more I found out that this is a common problem with either the Sprint model or the Harmon Kardon edition, doesn't matter which in my case. The problem being the APN settings editing and saving, the proposed solution is to reboot your device until you get access (or factory reset which is what I did) and then using the back button instead of the save button (which deletes it...) and that actually allows you to save edits to the original APN or create a new APN. I however, have found that I am only able to edit the original and not add another, so I now have the correct APN settings in my phone for my carrier now but stil, STILL, cannot get the sim unlock code prompt to show up or find a way to enter my code. I know the two should be unrelated, but I was hoping fixing one would fix the other, like if I got the sim unlock code entered it would be able to save the APN settings or vice versa, especially with all the weird kinks this phone has. Could this all be as simple as a faulty sim card? I've only found a handful of people that have this sim card prompt issue with the M8 but it seems that about half of them got a new sim card and it worked and the other half just gave up, which I do not want to do.
Going back to your previous reply, yes my carrier's (straight talk) sim card is in the phone and no prompt. I can connect to wifi (if that's what you mean) but no calling, text, or mobile data. I expected that to be the case with the phone being sim locked, is that not what you mean?

Could be. It happens. Especially if its a new SIM, and you haven't validated (and/or not able to validate) it works in another device. Most carriers will give you a new SIM for free, so its worth doing. If nothing more, to at least eliminate as the problem.

Yeah, that is basically what I meant. You didn't explicitly say you had another carrier's (non-Sprint) SIM, and tried inserting it. I assumed you had; but its better to confirm the seemingly "obvious" in the event the issue is something easy.
Interesting heads up, and correcting myself a bit here:
Apparently, sunshine s-off includes SIM unlock. This is according to the sunshine developer, beaup starting at Post #4933 of the "Help" thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/help-thread-htc-one-m8-questions-t2897783/page494
Surprised by this. Along with a few other very knowledgeable helpers (that you will see responded to beaups post), I also was not aware of this for the longest time.
So apparently, $25 for the sunshine app will get you s-off and SIM unlock.

Sunshine, of course, worked perfectly. After all of the trouble I had doing everything else I expected it to tell me some error message in the prescreening it does but I had no problems at all. I really wish I had known about this before I put all the time and effort into tying to do it myself, definitely worth the $25! Turns out Sprint is just REALLY good at making their phones locked up tighter than a nunnery. Thank you so much for your help red!

Verizon 4G/LTE/VOLTE on custom OS guide!

So I was originally going to do a video for this just because it would be proof that you can get LTE on a custom rom but they wouldn't let me bring the sim card home. So here are the steps to get LTE/VOLTE for verizon on a custom ROM. This is not a tutorial on how to root your phone, how to get a custom OS, you can find those in other threads
1) Take out SIM card if it is not activated, if it is go to Verizon and get a new one
2) Unlock your bootloader and install TWRP
3) Install your custom OS
4) Install magisk and go into module and install VoEnabler (Not sure if it works, but it can't hurt. I had this installed when VOLTE kicked on with a new SIM)
5) Throw in SIM card, activate it.
Please note DO NOT go into *228 and update roaming capabilities. Doing that causes you to go to *#*#4636#*#* and have to activate it EVERY TIME you lose data or reboot your phone.
My phone is a Moto E4 unlocked on Verizon service. If these steps do not work for you, you can leave verizon and join AT&T JUST FOR THAT DAY! (if you haven't taken a phone out from them, going back to them will get you a 100 dollar bonus to your account and no charges to either AT&T or VZW)
If you need proof I will reserve spots to upload screen shots of my phone with 4G on DOT OS
Reserved for pictures of 4G on my mobile
