Stuck on HTC load screen after attempted rooting - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently got a sprint HTC One M8 to transfer my service to. Being a noob I thought this would be a simple process, so suffice to say 24 hours ago I didn't even know what APN settings were, and that's what launched me down this rabbit hole of trying to unlock my bootloader, flash a new recovery, and s-off my phone all so I can get to the damn APN settings. So I followed the "wonder how to bootloader unlock" instructions (2nd result if you google that phrase because I can't put links in here) almost exactly and got my bootloader unlocked successfully and rebooted with no issues. I downloaded superSU-2.79 onto my phone, downloaded twrp-3.0.2 to my computer and then flashed it. I forgot to clear my caches before booting and it got stuck on the HTC screen, so I rebooted it in recovery mode and wiped my caches (yes, including dalvik) and rebooted again with the same issue.
So now i'm kind of at a loss, I don't know if I should try to reflash with the sdcard method using the stock RUU or a TWRP file. I feel like I made some obvious fundamental mistake that I didn't recognize and well, I kinda need a working phone so any help would be greatly appreciated! :fingers-crossed:

Would any of those pose a problem with my s-on, I feel like I've seen comments here and there with conflicting views on flashing through twrp with s-on. I don't want to go back to started over with the sprint m8 RUU but I don't know what would be easier/more possible with my limited knowledge of this stuff

Can u post a pic of your bootloader screen .
Power off phone .
Press POWER+ VOLUME DOWN .
click pic and upload here .
If you are having s-off phone then be caution while flashing RUU . A GSM RUU can hardbrick your device .
Post a pic of bootloader i will post the links of the specific files .
If you dnt want to go through the RUU route then flashing a custom rom is best option now .

U have a sprint htc m8 ( Harman kardon edition).
The easiest option is download a stock rooted rom or a custom rom.
Stock rooted rom --(credits to @Captain_Throwback)
https://basketbuild.com/filedl/devs?_e_pi_=7,PAGE_ID10,6926975543
Procedure -
Same as custom rom.
There are many custom rom in ANDROID DEVELOPMENT SECTION . Download anyone and flash zip via recovery .
Procedure:-
Download custom rom zip
Reboot to recovery
Wipe - advance wipe - data, cache, dalvik, system
Install - select rom zip
If u want sprint ruu .( credits to @OMJ)
U have to relock bootloader for this to flash .
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?_e_pi_=7,PAGE_ID10,2505757169
Procedure:
Download RUU.
Rename to 0P6BIMG and place in root of SD card .
Reboot bootloader and Relock bootloader via fastboot commands .
Place sd card in phone
Again reboot to bootloader
It will automatically read the RUU.
Proceed with RUU.

Any conflicting view is simply incorrect. You do NOT need s-off to flash ROMs (with TWRP). Folks who say you need s-off are wrongly referencing older HTC devices (where you had to manually fastboot flash the kernel, or otherwise have s-off for the kernel to flash). Or the other exception is the Verizon version (which prohibits unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev.com, therefore s-off is required) which also does not apply to your device.

Thanks a bunch guys, I've been busy with work all weekend but I'm giving it a try today, I'll let you know how it goes. Also thanks for pointing me to an appropriate ROM, I was having trouble deciding what to use

Ooooohkay, so I eneded up downloading ViperOneM8_6.1.0 and installed it with no problems, phone booted up in like 45 seconds and seems to be working great. Now I'm trying to do the last bit of S-Offing the sona ***** with firewater and when i go to reboot it with adb i get this: "This adbd's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set; try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device." I've looked it up and tried to delete the adbkey.pub and adbkey under C:/Users/$Name/.android but it still comes up with the same message. Any suggestions?

firewater won't work, no matter what you do. firewater requires an online server component, which the devs took offline in December 2014. So the firewater method no longer works since then.
Currently, Sunshine ($25) is the only working s-off method.
But what exactly do you want s-off for? Most folks don't need it. You don't need s-off for flashing ROMs, kernel, root, or a great many other things (s-on is fine for those).

uh... oh, well that's one vital piece of knowledge i missed, didn't realize it was an online thing. That's what is so ridiculous about this, all i need to do is change my apn settings and name and switch to gsm to get access to my current provider's network and i'm having to do all this just to be able to access those settings and sim unlock my phone. If there's another way to get that done I haven't found it, being all locked up tight by Sprint and all. Feels like i'm taking a real scenic route to get to the destination.

Are you implying that accessing the APN settings will SIM unlock the phone? Or you are trying to SIM unlock the phone and also access the APN settings?
Not only are they 2 different things, but I don't believe s-off will help with either of them.
With Viper on the phone, you should be able to change the APN settings. Is that not what you are finding?
Also, no amount of changing the APN settings will result in anything, if the phone is SIM locked. There is not working mod to unlock the SIM. Your best bet is probably to buy the code from an online vendor (around $10).

No I know that won't sim unlock the phone, I already have a sim unlock code but can't get into the apn settings to put the thing into my phone, and no, calling any combination of *765# will not input it and my phone doesn't automatically ask for sim unlock code. I also thought that having viper would solve that problem, but when i go into my connections to change it the apn settings are still blanked out, unable to be selected. From what I understand, the S-ON status is keeping me from accessing those menus, like I said, scenic route there all to just change the apn.

Oh my god.... I just changed the network mode (which i didn't realize i had access to) to gsm/umts only and it allowed me to open the apn settings, now however, I can't add any new apns, the add symbol is blanked out like the menu options before.

I've never seen anyone enter a SIM unlock code through the APN menu. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I've never heard of anyone doing it that way.
Typical method, is when you insert another carrier's SIM, the phone will ask for the code. Are you saying you inserted your carrier's SIM (non-Sprint), and it didn't ask for the SIM unlock code?
You would probably then have to enter your carrier's APN info, in order to get cell internet service. But the SIM should work for voice and SMS without even touching the APN settings; as those only apply to cell internet/data.

So you can't add a new APN, and you are locked out from changing the individual settings on the existing APN (presumably Sprint APN).
The Sprint CDMA variant has some peculiarities, and I can't claim to know for sure. But on the GSM M8 versions, even if the APN settings for the carrier are locked (can't change the existing APN), you can usually still add a new APN. So its unusual to see the option (to add a new APN) locked out, especially on a custom ROM.

Last night after looking around some more I found out that this is a common problem with either the Sprint model or the Harmon Kardon edition, doesn't matter which in my case. The problem being the APN settings editing and saving, the proposed solution is to reboot your device until you get access (or factory reset which is what I did) and then using the back button instead of the save button (which deletes it...) and that actually allows you to save edits to the original APN or create a new APN. I however, have found that I am only able to edit the original and not add another, so I now have the correct APN settings in my phone for my carrier now but stil, STILL, cannot get the sim unlock code prompt to show up or find a way to enter my code. I know the two should be unrelated, but I was hoping fixing one would fix the other, like if I got the sim unlock code entered it would be able to save the APN settings or vice versa, especially with all the weird kinks this phone has. Could this all be as simple as a faulty sim card? I've only found a handful of people that have this sim card prompt issue with the M8 but it seems that about half of them got a new sim card and it worked and the other half just gave up, which I do not want to do.
Going back to your previous reply, yes my carrier's (straight talk) sim card is in the phone and no prompt. I can connect to wifi (if that's what you mean) but no calling, text, or mobile data. I expected that to be the case with the phone being sim locked, is that not what you mean?

Could be. It happens. Especially if its a new SIM, and you haven't validated (and/or not able to validate) it works in another device. Most carriers will give you a new SIM for free, so its worth doing. If nothing more, to at least eliminate as the problem.

Yeah, that is basically what I meant. You didn't explicitly say you had another carrier's (non-Sprint) SIM, and tried inserting it. I assumed you had; but its better to confirm the seemingly "obvious" in the event the issue is something easy.

Interesting heads up, and correcting myself a bit here:
Apparently, sunshine s-off includes SIM unlock. This is according to the sunshine developer, beaup starting at Post #4933 of the "Help" thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/help-thread-htc-one-m8-questions-t2897783/page494
Surprised by this. Along with a few other very knowledgeable helpers (that you will see responded to beaups post), I also was not aware of this for the longest time.
So apparently, $25 for the sunshine app will get you s-off and SIM unlock.

Sunshine, of course, worked perfectly. After all of the trouble I had doing everything else I expected it to tell me some error message in the prescreening it does but I had no problems at all. I really wish I had known about this before I put all the time and effort into tying to do it myself, definitely worth the $25! Turns out Sprint is just REALLY good at making their phones locked up tighter than a nunnery. Thank you so much for your help red!

[QUEST] To save a ex-blacklisted Hero

Super condensed prologue:
UK T-Mobile HTC Hero bought from ebay
Unlocked via an IMEI generated code (i.e not serial cable method)
Worked fine for 3 months
Sudden onset of 'No Service' and 'sim cannot connect to this network
The battle:
Use CheckMEND to find status of IMEI
It's bloody blacklisted! (Seller is conducting insurance fraud...)
Contact T-mobile - they confirm there are many problems with the IMEI
Contact the seller - no help
Explain to seller I have figured out his full name, address, phone number and that I now know his wife was recently prosecuted for benefit fraud (she is actually the registered seller)
He tells me he will call later
No call - I call him, he says I won't get my money back
The uplifting moment:
I call Tmobile - they have now removed the blacklist
The seller must have informed Tmobile that it wasn't really lost
The crash:
The blacklist seems to have modified the handset so it's locked to Tmobile again.
T-mobile SIMs work.
All other report No Service.
Also, going into the test mode (VOL DOWN + PWR ON) I find that the SIMLOCK status now reports FILE OPEN FAILED!
Quest?:
I will fix this problem....
I've already:
Made a gold card
Flashed Generic latest ROM
Does anyone know how to re-flash the SIMLOCK area - even to default would help?
Would running the CID commands through a serial cable help?
To note: Now rooted with instant root. Will try and flash a recovery image and see what happens.
[METHOD] (source forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4750940&postcount=4 - edited a live download location for Instant Root)
I first followed the instructions on making a goldcard and then flashed the 2.73.405.5 WWE rom fine.
Now make sure you have the cm-hero-recovery.img (content.modaco.net/dropzone/m...covery-1.0.zip) on the root of your sdcard.
Aswell as Instant Root (tecnophone.it/wp-content/uploads/Instant-Root-by-tecnophone.zip) now install Instant Root on the phone.
It should pop up with a notification "instant root was successfully" or along those lines. (If you have a problem installing Instant Root make sure Settings>Applications>Unknown Sources is checked)
Instant root then allows for root access with adb shell using the following 2 commands:
1) adb shell
then
2) su
the icon should change from a $ to #.
Now flash the recovery image with the following command:
1) flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
[/METHOD]
If flashing fails I'll try doing this with serial commands. I've seen a few people about the net with similar issues so hopefully if I am successful!
Just some extra info...
The handset may not be locked back to t-mobile as you cant lock a handset OTA, T-mobile are the only UK network that can actually amend the blacklist for other networks as its owned by T-mobile. When a csa/csr what ever they call them, removes the blacklist it removes it from T-mobile only as the assumption is you should not remove another networks blacklist request. If you are not the original owner of the handset and some CSR has removed they they have made a mistake (you bonus) but if it was not originally blacklisted by t-mobile the other networks will stay dead to it..
Thanks for the reply.
I called o2 who say it is not blacklisted on their system.
Hmmm, I'm not sure where I am left...
It works on T-mobile. but not other network.
It doesn't ask for an unlock code - Is there another lock somewhere?
I have just remembered the name of the system "Dali" if you speak to a team manager and say you have been told you need the blacklist removing from it if its still on..
If its not showing on that then it must be a handset issue..

It is definately no longer blacklisted - meaning it's handset.
So this could be coincidental timing? I have a copy of the CheckMEND report saying it had been blacklisted.
Are we sure that T-mob cannot do something OTA?
Is there any way to restore the simlock data to default - I.e. relock it so I can re-enter my unlock code?
Im not sure about re locking it tbh, good luck!!

I get:

I'm using a custom ROM but is based on a stock one.
I have an unlocked phone and I also get the same output regarding simlock.

IMEI unknown, but phone working normally

Hi folks,
strange issue, I bought the HTC One X locked to our network, from another guy. It was rooted via HTC dev with Mike's revolution over it. Everything was ok, except it was locked to a network I dont want to use with.
So I tried with HTCSimUnlock.com, purchased unlock code, received it instantly, and tried several times to insert it. But every time, display showed "unknown password" and no luck.
What I discovered when I took to record the procedure of unsuccessful inserting the code to claim for money back, was that imei number is missing, and actually in the settings imei showe as "unknown". The most interesting thing is that phone is working normally, with of course, sim card from the network that the phone is locked to.
I wrote to HTCSimUnlock.com ,and waiting for the answer, but I dont know should I do something, try to get the RUU back to stock rom, or hard reset, but am little afraid that phone could stop working...

I wrote to HTCSimUnlock.com ,and waiting for the answer, but I dont know should I do something, try to get the RUU back to stock rom, or hard reset, but am little afraid that phone could stop working...

you could try the hard reset or RUU. whether the phone will stop working or not, i personally would try it, but you make your own choice. its a risk best thing i can suggest is play it safe, sell it on and get an unbranded one
How could you buy a unlock code without IMEI in the first place? And secondly, if you reboot into bootloader and choose "show barcode" then I guess there is a IMEI? In that case, just try a new rom, or better yet a ruu.
Download the appropriate Ruu and update it, this is a common issue on the S2 as well with ics during flashing, possibly someone updated it before you and it didnt go according to plan.
first time i have come across IMEI known, i know the serial number came back unkown once, try the RUU, like i said i dont think it will mess up your phone because your restoring it to factory conditions obviously.

no, imei was there in the first place, and after my attempt to unlock it, it dissapeared...
Then, I listened to you, and went to barcode, and imei was there normally.
Now, when I bootup, imei is here! Crazy staff...thanks...I really dont understand what happened...

Unlock t889 issue - SOLVED

SOLVED:::::::::: Thanks to Pirobo_Colmbino
I recently was issued an official unlock code for my t889 from tmo. I tried to unlock the device using an ATT sim and got the "network unlock unsuccessful" message. Apparently, I'm a dunce and didn't read AND follow the instructions properly and entered the wrong code more than once. Now I am told that my device is PERMANENTLY LOCKED and cannot be unlocked. Is this correct? Is there a way to fix it? HELLLP

Hi, im not sure if this is gonna help, but the way I unlock mine was with the help of a simple youtube search. Im new her so i cant post a link.
Steps: dial *#197328640#
step 1: umts
step 2: debug screen
step 3: phone control
step 4 network lock
step 5: perso sha256 off ( wait 30 seconds than hit the menu key and hit back)
step 6: nw lock nv data initialliz (wait about 1 minute and exit.
reboot and that should be it.
Try that out and if it does not work "meaning you dont see all of the options" all you have to do is downgrade to an older version of Stock " yes you will have to root again but it gets the job done.
If it helps dont forget to hit thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I tried this before and all the worked until it comes to step 5. When I go back, the item "nw lock nv initialliz" (in your step 6), isn't there to select. Perhaps downgrading is the answer?
The part I don't seem to understand is that TMO says because I entered the wrong code multiple times, I lost the ability to unlock. Does this method overwrite or fix the permanent lock they spoke of?

You, sir are correct. I was able to downgrade via Odin, but I lost some functions (which didn't matter since it was only temporary). I performed the steps you provided and tested with an ATT sim. It worked. Then I updated to current stock ROM and rooted. Tested again with ATT sim and my device is still unlocked. Thanks for your help. I hope anyone else who runs into this issue, can find this post and learn like I did.

I'm not so sure it had much to do with the version, although I am no expert dev. Mind you, this happened in a short period of time.
TIMELINE:
I was on The stock (shipped) rom when I first bought my GN2. I got it new and broke the seal on the box. Upon opening and starting the device, I got an OTA update (don't remember the build but not the LL4 ota). I started doing some reading on XDA, since like most, I like tinkering and tweaking. Not long after that (Mid Jan 2013) I got the OTA from TMO that had "minor fixes and security changes". This is when I read somewhere on XDA that it is not recommended that we accept the OTA update. But it was too late; I had already done it. I came across the unlock instructions posted earlier in this thread but I couldn't get pass all the steps. A few days later I rooted via ROOT66_TMO_UVALL4 rom, which gave me access to SuperUser. [I have this ZIP saved if anyone wants it and wants to show me how share it.] Then I got an official unlock code from TMO.
I followed these instructions that TMO sent me with the unlock code
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Samsung device.
Please be advised a non T-Mobile SIM card MUST be used to unlock this device.
1. Insert a NON T-Mobile SIM & turn Device on
2. The Device will automatically prompt you to enter code into an empty field.
3. Click/Tap in the empty field above the "Unlock & Dismiss" options (this will display a key pad on the screen).
4. Using the key pad input the Unlock Code provided by T-Mobile.
5. Press the Back button to remove the keyboard from screen.
6. Click/Tap the "Unlock" option; handset should display "Network Unlock Successful".
Please note that if you are unlocking a flip device please use steps 1, 2, 3 and 6.

In my haste, I didn't follow the instruction EXACTLY as written. Somehow I managed to enter the unlock code while using my TMO sim and not the "NON TMO sim". When I did this, I got the message in step 6. I thought I was good from here. I tried an ATT sim a few days later to verify but it asked me again for the sim unlock code but the operation was unsuccessful. I tried entering the donor phone's screen unlock code a few times as well as zeros and 1234 and again failed. I tried again with another donor phone with the same result. TMO sent me a second unlock code which also failed. I did tell them that I had done the OTA update and the rep told me it shouldn't matter. I did not tell them I was rooted stock though. The rep told me that due to entering the wrong code multiple times, the device went into "security lockout" and could not be unlocked. I read into several threads and posts and could not find the answer, Thus my original post. I down graded my Rom to T889UVALJ1, successfully performed the unlock procedure posted above (NOT TMO official), and re-installed the ROOT66 rom. Everything is now working perfectly. I put in the ATT sim and it pops right up as ATT.
The real question now is, does the OTA issued by TMO block the unlock exploit and is that what they refer to when they mention "security features"?
Thank for Solving this issue goes to user Pirobo_Colombino see post 2
I encountered the same problem couple weeks ago. The problem is not caused by the TMO firmware update but rather the fact that you tried to unlock the phone using the hack you found on the internet. Per instruction on the free unlock hack online, you selected "PERSO SHA256 OFF", this step is what prevented the phone from being successfully unlocked with TMo unlock code. In order for the TMO unlock code to work, you have to select "PERSO SHA256 ON", then follow the instruction steps to unlock using TMO code. That is what I did and it worked for me. Hope this helps anyone who will run into this problem in the future. Cheers :good:

Interesting....... This is the first I've heard of this. Not to say this info is not out there; I just never came across it. I cannot say it will work with HK sim since I have NO experience with that card or even overseas. However, I can say that ATT&T sim works every time I put it in the phone. Have you ever used a HK sim in another phone? If you did and it worked, I don't see why it wouldn't work in this one.

Latest OTA is 4.1.2
I'm not sure how you are trying to do your unlock. In order to use the unlock method detailed in post #2, I needed to downgrade my firmware. The method in post 2 WILL NOT work after the OTA update.
If you are using the instructions from your carrier, follow the instructions they emailed you EXACTLY. If you have issues with the carrier instructions, contact them; It's up to them to give you proper tech support on THEIR product.
As I understand, the "hack" method is for mostly intended those who have modded/altered/rooted/other-than-stock devices. Whichever method you use, be aware, YOU RUN THE RISK OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE. That being said, research your steps BEFORE you end up with a dead device.
I AM NOT a developer nor claim to be an expert at any of these methods. However I have been modding my devices for years by reading and researching XDA. I have had success and failures and so will you. The best advice I can offer is to continue reading the posts CAREFULLY and be patient.
I hope this helps

Yep I did in detail what has been said in post #2. ( By default my device is 4.1.1. )
When it didnt worked, I asked tmobile for the network pin. I also followed their instruction thoroughly, after i entered the pin they gave, it gave the message network unlock successfull. I noticed that there still was no signal so i restarted my device. However it still keep asking me for a network pin. When I asked them about this, they just said that they dont really know why.
I also did a factory reset.
Wonder what could be the issue. Any thoughts?

I would call Tmobile again and talk to someone else. Maybe ask for tier 2 support. Many times, the first person you get is a low level customer support person that only knows what the computer screen shows them unfortunately.

[Q] Unlock bootloader not found anywhere online

Hey guys. I'm very new and have spent the last few days researching about how the whole rooting, unlocking sim, unlocking bootloader, flashing radios and installing customer ROM's work.
From what I understand the process all start with having an unlocked bootloader so that you can install a recovery like TWRP. From there, you can flash ROM's, radios and kernels (if you want to) via zip files, from an micro sd card.
**please let me know if I understand this process correctly**
The problem is, I can't find a single place online (searched on this site and on google for over an hour straight last night) that actually tells you specifically for my model I317M with 4.1.1 (if that matters, I'm not sure) HOW to unlock the bootloader. I've seen a lot of people asking and no answers.
If someone could please tell me exactly HOW to unlock the bootloader for my phone that'd be amazing.
Is flashing the bootloader done via odin? (there is an option in odin for it) If not, how do you flash a bootloader?

You are lucky to have the device you do because the bootloader isn't locked! Some carriers lock the bootloader on some devices (it varies, like note 2 on at&t is unlocked but note 4 is locked). Some manufacturers even offer instructions or tools to unlock (ie htc offers Dev tools, on Google's nexus line it's a simple adb command "fastboot oem unlock").
Now for the i317, the procedure is simple. Gain root access with cf auto root (it's a tar.md5 file you flash with Odin. As a side note: Odin is a tool you will come to love because it can fix nearly anything you break. Just load the stock firmware for your device in Odin, flash and done. From there you can reroot or remain stock). Once you have root access after flashing cf auto root, have your custom recovery tar.md5 on hand to also flash in Odin.
So Odin, cf auto root, and recovery of your choice. (To flash the phone with Odin, the phone must be in download mode: vol-, home, power. Connect to computer and load up Odin)
Once you have flashed your root files and recovery, you can then enter recovery by holding vol+, home, and power, make a backup of your current stock setup, and then flash whatever rom you like as long as it's compatible with your device.
One more piece of advice: if you want to do anything like carrier unlock the device, I would do it now while you're on 4.1.1. In kitkat 4.4.2 and above some of the built in functionality of dialer codes and such were removed by Samsung... and people looking to carrier unlock who have already updated have to go through the tedious downgrade procedure to do so. Therefore, if that is something you are planning on needing at some point (or to just up the resale value of the device a bit), go ahead and root + recovery, then carrier unlock the device using dialer codes as specified in some of these threads. Then you can flash whatever you want and nothing can undo that unlock (mine is an att i317 on tmobile, so I highly recommend carrier unlock, you never know when you might need it!) Just do it before you move from 4.1.1 if you do want to do it
Good luck

Wow! Thanks a lot for that detailed reply. I wasn't expecting that
I managed to get a recovery installed and working. I've tried two ROMs today and that was neat. ( I put them on the external sd card and flashed the .zip from recovery ). Now my main problem is, finding a ROM that actually works decently (any suggestions would be nice) and unlocking the sim.
Now, I was on 4.1.1. and when I was there, I followed these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 and it seemed to have worked. It went just like the steps said it would.
Then, I actually went to a WIND mobile store today and asked if I could use a SIM to see if it would work with their network. It didn't (their network didn't show up on my phone )
I've since then tried that old method again but I am getting this error "connection problem or invalid mmi code" So I couldn't try doing that again.
Now I'm kinda stuck. I have been trying to find out if I can flash the radio with some firmware to fix it but I've had no luck finding anything.
I know this is a newish problem, but if you can guide me in the right direction or help me out I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I might just have to buy a new phone.

Im at work so I don't have a lot of time to explain, but the unlock probably worked fine. However, when you add a new Sim, you also have to program the access point name (or more commonly, APN). If you don't set the apn, the phone won't know which network to connect to. You may use a wind sim but if you still have the apn set for tmobile, it's gonna look for tmobile's network.
Apns can be configured under settings > more networks > mobile networks > access point names. You can have multiple apns programmed and switch between them as often as you switch sim cards. Search for wind apn and you'll figure it out (I keep a text file with lists of tmobile and at&t apns just in case.
Also you probably flashed a newer rom where Samsung/Google have removed the built in dialer codes, so you won't be able to use them anymore, but you can launch the codes you need using shortcut master (an app) where you can find the code you need and launch it fine with root permissions.

Airplane mode will not turn off

Hi all, I've been battling this problem for days now. Airplanr mode is stuck 'Turning off...' and wont connect to my mobile carrier. Things I've tried:
Restarting phone with and without SIM inserted
Factory reset from settings
Factory reset from recovery mode
Flashed to the same build twice using the flash from SD card method (build 3.36.709.3)
Turned airplane mode on and off with wifi/mobile data/NFC turned on or off
I have no idea what to do next. I doubt it's a hardware problem as the phone detects the sim card when I put it in and asks if it's O2 pay and go or pay monthly, so it can even read it, it's just the phone wont come out of airplane mode.
I am on holiday without a PC but feel free to post ideas that requires one. Device is currently S-on and unrooted. I would rather not root or s-off the device just yet, and would rather stay on stock ROM as it's still in warranty. Problem is, it's in the UK and the warranty is held in Taiwan, which means sending it internationally to get it fixed. It's also a problem as there is a language barrier between me and their support for phone calls and their live chat button appears to always be greyed out.
Edit: I found this for the M8 which I think is in the right direction:
"Even I started thinking same way but it wasn't hardware issue.
I used ##786# to reset the phone completly (it did asked me my MSL/SPC) and everything was wiped from the phone. ( I am sure this reset is different from normal factory reset)
now my phone is up and I can toggle Airplane Mode On & Off however now there is another thing which I came accross
1. No roaming option or extended options in "Mobile Data" option under Wireless & Settings
2. No Network Sharing option
Even tried after running RUU_M8_WHL_K44_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_Harman_2 .16.654.4_R2_Radio_1.08.20.0612_4_NV_SPCS_1.52_003 _release_384670_signed_2"
How do I do this with the M9? aLogcat comes back with no MSL so I need a free unrooted way to get that, and that # code doesn't do anything on the M9 either!
Edit2: Tried*#*#4636#*#*
Option is there to turn on the radio, but pressing it does nothing. Changing preffered network type does nothing either (I select any option from the drop down and the original choice remains). SIM is with O2. Currently set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Please help -_-
damn you really tried an m8 RUU on M9? please don't be stupid! it will never work lol. is your phone unlocked, so you could flash twrp recovery? otherwise you need to find a RUU matching your mainversion/CID. but this time not from m8 lol

The M8 RUU was a quote from someone having the same issue on their M8. Sorry if that wasn't very clear. I am running a fresh M9 latest RUU, I'm not dumb enough to put an M8 RUU on it and the stock flash utility (download mode) isn't either.
I still haven't found a solution to this. Can anyone help?
tried in *#*#4636#*#* on the menu button the frequency option? if you are fully stock, ask HTC, if they have no other fix, send it for warranty
I've tried everything in that screen. Here is what I have also tried today:
Bootloader unlocked
Custom recovery installed
Rooted
Model number and CID changed to developer model
Developer rom installed (android lollipop) same problem
Latest developer edition firmware installed
ViperOne 4.3 installed, same problem
Cryno... Something... I forget the name, but another custom rom installed, same problem.
It's fair to say that the problem is probably hardware related. The SIM card is detected, but the radio willnot turn on. In this instance, what is the most likely hardware cause? Is it worth replacing the sim card reader or is it more likely to be a chipset issue? I would be happier replacing the sim reader if the sim was not detected at all.
Btw, all the custom software stuff was done because HTC Taiwan said they wouldn't touch it. According to them it's out of warranty even though UK support say it's in warranty with the taiwan support centre.
