Ok So I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy s3 (SGH-T999L) (LTE Version). I previously rooted it and installed custom ROM using Cyanogenmod, then changed to TWRP later. Then, i wanted to revert to stock and unrooted my phone. I was told to install latest firmware and did so (Android 4.3 T999LUVUBOH1). Since then, i went from T-Mobile to MetroPCS. The phone is unlocked. When trying to use metropcs sim card on s3, it works for about 5 minutes (able to call & text), then all of a sudden i get NO SIGNAL and cannot do ANYTHING! I used my husband's metropcs sim card and same thing happened. Then, I tried my mom's AT&T sim card and it did seem to work fine for awhile. I tried accessing mobile networks to change APN while I had my mom's sim in there and was able to but when i insert my sim card it says: "Insert Sim to access network services" and there IS a sim in there. Our sims work fine on other phones. I don't understand what's going on. I've tried to flash a modem and even rooting it again, but Odin keeps failing or not responding. I cannot flash ANYTHING!!! Please help!
Flash back to a stock ROM and make sure everything works. Once this is done, call MetroPCS to see if they need to register the phone's imei on their system.
Thanks. It had official stock Rom already on it. I can try again if Odin decides to work for me. I have USB debugging on. I'll let you know what happens. I will also call Metro PCS. thanks again.

Omgoodness!! Thank you SO much! Calling metro pcs worked. I'm in disbelief! So simple, I didn't even think of it. I really appreciate your help!
No problem. Glad it worked. We're all here to help and learn from each other.

I got an unlock code from Tmo and borrowed a AT&T SIM from my friend. She doesn't have internet, and I put in the unlock code in and it was unsuccessful. Then, when I got home, I tried using another AT&T SIM, but this one is not active. When I put it in and rebooted, and there was no prompt to unlock. Am I doing anything wrong? Or what is the proper way to do it?
Oh yeah, I pulled the battery when I changed SIMs.
Does it matter if you are stock ROM or a custom? Mine worked on stock just fine, never tried it any other way though.. Maybe a factory restore? It shouldn't matter if the non-carrier SIM is active or not either..
Im on Jugg 5.0....
Should come up as it detects the different carrier. Try making a call on the ATT Sim. You might already be unlocked for some reason.
Hi, and firstly, thanks to any and all who offer their knowledge to assist my conundrum.
I recently purchased a Bell Canada version of the SG Note 2 (i317), I am on Telus so I attempted to Unlock the phone. I looked online and found people were having success unlocking these phones for free using the *#197327640# method, (whereby you go into the service mode, turn off the PERSHO_256 and then INITIALLIZ).
I tried this method and the phone then seemed to work with my telus sim, but only for voice, not data. When I put in a Bell SIM from a friend, both voice and data worked fine - which tells me its not a hardware (radio) issue. I also tried using another friends Telus SIM and had the same results as mine - which tells me it's not a SIM error. Also, all the settings in the mobile network area appeared to be correctly set up.
So, my next step was to try and reflash the phone to the stock Bell ROM and then just buy an Unlock code. I downloaded the stock ROM (2 different ones actually) and used Odin 3.07 to reload the ROM. I've tried it several times now, with both Bell ROMs and each time it says it's been successful, but the phone remains in the same, partially unlocked state.
It seems as though by using the PERSHO_256 method I have permanently, PARTIALLY unlocked the phone. I can't seem to re-lock it by installing the stock Bell ROM, and since it's unlocked, I can't get the foreign SIM error to come up to enable me to put in my purchased unlock code.
If anyone has any insights, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

did you check and/or setup the apn? it may be just the apn is not set correctly or you have to manually input hte apn
sounds like just APN needs setting...
APN?
How would I check/setup the APN? Is this to allow me to do a full reflash to a stock ROM or to access data with the phone in it's current state?
left ownsho
So I went into ACCES POINT NAMES and checked the sp.telus.net box, no change. Did a restart. No change Any ideas?
Wooooo Hooooo!!!
So, it's working now!!! I dug a little deeper and found the correct APN settings for TELUS. NOW IT F*@^&#*&@ING WORKS!
Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction!!!
I'm trying to unlock my phone, I bought used on ebay, I found found a thread here that shows you how to unlock, but can't even do the first step. when I install a different sim card, I don't get the message Unlock, the phone reads the sim as a non support sim.
the sim I'm putting in the phone doesnt have service on it, Is this the reason the unlock message doesn't come up?
Please Help
Maybe your phone is already unlocked

I put a metro pcs sim that has service on it, but when I try to make a call, it say, not register to network, and or mobile network disconnected? Aso also tried to put the apn setting, but when I try to save the apn setting, they disappear??
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks for the reply
you can use free unlock from general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
but of course you have to do it from uvkl1. but--you can do a nandroid, and after you unlock it, restore your backup! it will stay unlocked

Seems your phone's ROM/Radio mismatched or not for MetroPCS. This exactly happened to my phone also, until I flashed a new radio for my rom(I am using TMobile, flashed new TMobile ROM but not new Radio. Then it had the problems as you have now).
New sim fixed

The sim card I was putting in the phone was already register to a different phone.. I had to put a new sim, not active yet, then register the new sim to my imei and it worked fine.. I bought the phone used from ebay and it was already unlocked..
so i installed TWRP on mu unlocked and S-OFF phone, and rooted the phone. then from the recovery, i made a nandroid backup, wiped the phone, and installed this ROM. even though all traces of Verizon software is now wiped off the phone (i hope!), it still only connects when the Verizon SIM card is in (and it shows the Roaming sign; fyi, i am in Canada now). it won't give me a voice nor a data connection with my Telus SIM card nor with my Rogers SIM card. so, i went into recovery, wiped cache, and afterwards, the phone was stuck in the boot...i had to go to recovery again, wipe everything, and restore my nandroid backup. the phone is now back to stock Verizon software, and it still only connects when the Verizon SIM card is in. it should at least give me voice connection with the Telus or Rogers SIM card, but it won't. something must have happened to the radio when i flashed the ROM, and i can't figure it out.
do you guys have any troubleshooting ideas? can anybody guide me towards a fix/troubleshooting method? i'd appreciate any help...

This ROM is still very early and has some bugs. Making it work for people not using it on Verizon isn't a concern of Santods at the moment. Switch to something that does work for you until he gets the rom further along.

thank you all for your help. it's not just APN though; with that ROM, i cannot even have a voice connection, let alone data. and even though i restored my stock backup (and now running the original ROM that came with the phone), the voice still doesn't work; it only functions with a Verizon SIM card.

Well.. when you were on cm you couldn't get any service? Is your carrier lte/cdma or gsm based? Are you showing global mode when on cm? It also can be a case where some qpst work needs done to enable the extra radio bands needed to pickup your carrier.

i'm guessing by CM you mean CyanogenMod, right? if so, i was never on CM. i was using the stock ROM (4.4.3, Sense 6.0, Verizon bloatware), and then i flashed the Lollipop ROM by santod. the phone initially could connect to Rogers and i had voice and very slow (i.e., EDGE) data speeds, but after flashing the ROM, my phone lost the ability to provide any sort of voice connection except when i'm using my old Verizon SIM card (that shows the Roaming icon, because i'm in Canada now).
i could try CM, if you think it has less possible bugs. do you suggest i do a factory reset while on stock ROM and then flash CM?

Yes. Factory reset on stock recovery. Then flash twrp and sideload the latest cm build. I would probably stay with cm11 for now too.

yeah, sure. i have flashed MDMower TWRP 2.8.1.1; do you suggest i use 2.7.1.2? also, what do you exactly mean by "sideload"? i'm just a newbie; this is my first ROM flash experience. thank you

Well you can do a factory reset on stock Rom and let it boot up and then copy cm over to phone storage for flashing.....or...adb sideload.
When you boot into twrp under the advanced options there's an adb sideload feature. Once the phone is in this mode you can use you pc to send a Rom over using the command "adb sideload nameofROM.zip". Your pc will send the Rom over and the phone will flash it once it's copied over.
Backup the internal sd card of your phone before you factory reset. I've forgotten so many times it isn't funny.

ok, i did all that with MDMower TWRM 2.7.1.2 this time. CM11 is up and running now, but i still have the same issue. my Telus and Rogers SIM cards lead to a "No Service" icon, whereas my old Verizon SIM gives the Roaming indicator. funny thing is that with all three SIM cards, the correct set of APNs is loaded by default when i boot the phone, but selecting those APNs don't change anything. i also tried Global, GSM only, WDCMA preferred, and some combinations of those modes to no avail (the only SIM that leads to service is Verizon's). it seems like the phone is hard-coded for that particular SIM card, no matter what.
any other ideas? could the radio have become corrupted somehow during unlocking/S-OFF'ing/flashing? if so, what is a workaround for this?

I would bet they are using a frequency that's not currently unlocked on your radio. There is a lengthy how to posted on Google about how to enable Qualcomm radio bands.

aha, great! i know that Verizon HTC One M7 uses
CDMA 800/1900 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
UMTS/HSPA 1900/2100MHz
LTE 700MHz (Band 13)
according to this Wikipedia page, Telus has a HSPA+ network on 850/1900 MHz (so at least the 1900 Mhz band should give me something, shouldn't it?), it has CDMA service that's supposed to shut down completely in 2015 (it is out of service in some places in Canada, but i'm not sure about my area), but has no GSM service at all.
thanks for the tip about enabling radio bands; i'll search for it...
I got Verizon Note 4.
Verified that it is unlocked. Not stolen. No contract binded from Verizon store and through phone (Clean phone)
Android Version : 5.0.1
Location: Las Vegas
Insert AT&T sim card. No signal.
Change APN setting following the information on AT&T website. Still not working. No signal.
At&t store rep. said I need to l unlock the phone ( I already check with Verizon via phone and store)
Verizon rep. on phone said: I should be able to use the phone with At&t sim card
Verizon Rep. in store said : Galaxy note 4 won't work on AT&T. It needs to be rooted by an expert. Only Galaxy S5 or later version will work.
I searched websites and many say that they are using Verizon Note 4 on AT&T network (At&t sim card)
I just need to use phone and text message. No data needed.
Anybody can help me?
I was able to use SIM from AT&T before yesterday, but after trying to update the firmware using Software Upgrade Assistant tool on Windows 10, it's now stuck at 'searching for service'.
Did you change the network settings from global to lte/GSM?
I am reading this. Maybe a solution.
Did you try to insert a different carrier sim card and entering the unlock code?

After reading post i see you have a att sim sim on verizon phone. This could be a problem as verizon and att dont play nice. Stupid question is did you actually pay for service?

Yeah. Me either.
Did you do a factory reset after software update. Usually helps. Also mess with APN settings. Reboot after changing APN.
Problem solved.
Changing APN settings and reboot did not work. I just inserted the Verizon SIM came with the phone and made a phone call. Of course it's not activated, so I hang up when it reached Verizon automated system. Guess what, now SIM from Lycomobile works. H2O Wireless SIM also works. It means that it now can work with AT&T and T-Mobile network.

I'm in a similar boat as you (4.4.4 on Cricket Wireless, wanting to upgrade to 5.1.1). I just want to make sure I understand what you did to restore service:
1. You had phone working on AT&T with an older Android version (KK?)
2. You upgraded to a newer version via the Verizon upgrade tool (I assume 5.0.1 since 5.1.1 is not yet available via the tool)
3. You lost AT&T service after upgrade
4. You were able to restore AT&T service by using an inactive Verizon SIM and making a phone call
Is this correct? TIA

Mostly, except that I tried to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1, but found that 5.1.1 was not yet available via the tool, but the process of installing the software on windows 10 and maybe I also used the Verizon SIM during the process which might have messed something up. I updated the firmware to 5.1.1 by downloading the zip file in a thread here and flashed it through recovery. The network connection problem was then solved by making a phone call with the SIM came with the phone.

I just updated via the Verizon tool (BPA1 finally showed up) and it was, surprisingly, perfectly fine. I first backed up as much as I can (via Smart Switch and Helium app), then pulled my mSD card, left my SIM card in the phone, and proceeded to update. After the first boot stuff (app optimization, etc.) I soon saw the AT&T sign in the notification bar, and I was able to make a phone call without doing anything else. With all the reports of SIM card locking after updating I was worried that I might run into the same issue, but was pleasantly surprised that I didn't. I had to re-enter the APN setting as the upgrade seemed to have removed it, but after re-adding Cricket's APN I was able to get cellular data as well.
Thanks again for your help
You need to access the hidden menu and change your radio and modem protocols. There's a forum on XDA called domestic and internation sim or network unlock for spring but should work the same on verizon
fyi, i got my note 4 working on gsm using 2 different freedompop sims-the at&t lte sim gets lte via band 4.
the global sim based on t-mobile did get hpsda+
just change the apn
