Hello there XDA Developers forum.
I got a HTC One M8 on contract with Three (UK) and was immediately disappointed with HTC Sense, and so, followed a YouTube guide to convert my standard HTC One M8 into a Google Play Edition HTC One M8. This guide included S-Off, and allows over the air updates. Also, the Google Play Edition ROM that the guide recommended I flash to my phone is not rooted, so the end result that I have is pretty much an exact replica of a Google Play Edition HTC One M8.
I am certain the over the air updates work, because before I "converted" my phone it was on 4.4.3, and after it was completed, a few weeks later I was promoted with an Android notification to upgrade to 4.4.4, which just worked without any problems. On the notification it even said "4.4.4 for your HTC One M8 Google Play Edition" despite my phone not actually being a "real" Google Play Edition model.
My question is, will the process be the same when Android L is released? IE, When Android L is released, will my phone get a notification like before and just be able to update like normal? Or since it's a pretty big update, will I need to flash a new ROM onto my phone? I'm hoping the over the air updates will take care of it again, but hoping someone could provide me with some info.
Thank you very much in advance everybody.

Brilliant, thank you. Do you know if i will be prompted to install the update or will I have to do it manually?
Really appreciate your help.

you'll be prompted, and depending on your setup will determine if you should follow through or not. (stock recovery, untouched sys apps, etc)
@marshedpotato - please could you provide a link to the YouTube guide you followed for conversion? Thanks.

I would not follow any YouTube guide, but the RUU guide on this forums. Don't have the link at hand though, as I'm not at my PC at the moment. Just search for it on the forums.
Following a video you'll never collect the proper knowledge of what you are doing and thus most of the time don't know how to solve a problem if one occurs.

I am kinda new to the HTC world, i have an Xperia S, which is rather easy to downgrade in contrast to HTC one. After upgrading my HTC One X to 4.2.2 my battery is draining very much, it is nearly unusable. So i wanted to if it is possible to downgrade without opening bootloader or S-OFF or anything.
The answer is simple - not possible.
Because HTC One X has S-On, you can't downgrade. And until now there is no safe nor official method to S-Off it.

only way is unlocking bootloader

Please bare with me and help me out to downgrade the same. Please be simple in using terms, as I am very less experienced in using Android (hardly couple of months).

Thanks in Advance !

Do not flash anything from this forum or follow any guides in this forum, this is for the one x only.
You need to find the forum specific to the one x+ or you will have problems

I've been stuck on the verizon s3 for a couple of years and I finally bought a new phone. Naturally I had to get the developers edition of the HTC One m9. So I am wondering if their is a specific forum for our phones? Or do I just flash a rom according to whatever SIM card I'm using that day?
Also even though it was purchased as a developers edition, can flashing the wrong kernal get me stuck with a locked bootloader again?

Your in the right forums for your Developer Edition M9, Are you still with Verizon ?
I have a bit of a repository for the DE stuff here >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=28823
Any of the Roms in the Developer forums will work fine on your phone, I have tried Leedroid / ViperOneM9 / Stock with Goodies / and ARHD
with no problems.
I would be interested in knowing how you can get Verizon to work on a GSM phone if that is the case.

Awesome, thanks for the link!
I am still with verizon! tried the vzw sim to no avail and so far my m9 is just looking pretty. am still using my vzw s3 with no power button. I may go out today and get a t-mobile Sim card. I am definately dragging my feet because verizon does have the best coverage. But I will also find out if I SIM unlocked the s3. After the power button broke I went crazy with a few dialer code apps and I got to a point where I could manually input APN's. If that's the case I may invest a few bucks to have it fixed.
I was looking at you nicely organized repository and noticed you had a copy of the stock recovery. May I ask what you used to back it up?

LeeDroid is a nice Sense based Rom, lots of tweaks and very stable/bug free and includes his own custom kernel

Anyone know if I already get them to the developer edition the update 1.40.401.8 ?????
Can you rephrase your question? I'm not sure what you're asking.
If you are asking about the 1.40.xx than as far as I know it is firmware for the international version. However you can flash it in Order to run some custom roms. I'm currently using it on my dev edition in order to run viper one.

All VZW m9's shipped with the latest OS. We have not received a single OTA yet, therefore what you are looking for doesn't exist (yet). Once it hits, you will simply need to get a copy of the otapkg.zip and run it from your SD/internal storage to update.

hi all
it's been too long since i played with my phones - rooting and flashing etc. and i don't remeber how to do anything..
if someone please direct me to instruction manual here on how to root and flash my htc one m8 i would appreciate it. plus if anyone can recommand a good ROM to flash with sense in it, and if there is one that has the option to lock the screen so i won't keep accidently delete widgets that i work long time to adjust (i know this option exist on some other user interface program other then sense but i don't like it)
thanks,
Oren.

Mine is not updating either gets the first part of the two part update it installs fine but then nothing else happens and it says the phone is up to date.
Guys... Unlock bootloader, install Twrp recovery using fastboot, install Stock MM by @xXminiWHOOPERxX and it's done
Thanks, modaifallah, I have had that rom from xXminiWHOOPERxX and it is good but because it is pre rooted it wont take updates. Still want to be on stock and get ota updates, I am thinking that perhaps that because the first part of the update is called interum maybe my carrier just hasn't made the second part of the update available yet and only have that first part ota at the moment, will contact them today to try and find out, still uncertain after talking to htc and my carrier as to which one actually provides the ota updates, they both just want to refer to the other, call htc and they say talk to your carrier, call my carrier and they say you'll have to talk to htc.

This is disappointing... HTC Desire EYE won't most likely recieve any more updates. Its cousin One M8 won't recieve Android N.. From an official comment from HTC. So the desire eye also won't recieve it being far less popular than M8. We will only have the custom roms option for future updates. So.. If I were you I would stick to miniwhoopers rom. Good luck.
