GPE conversion - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I'm thinking about converting my phone to Google play edition, my only question is that if I do convert, will I still be able to flash other roms no problem if I'm not liking the GPE, when I day other roms I mean aokp specifically or will I have to do other things /convert back?

Read those two threads, as I guess your questions are answered there:
GPE conversion
Back to Sense
Be aware that Sense and GPE are different in partition sizes, so it depends on the question at hand: are you running a full conversion, or just installing an AOKP ROM on you sense edition after the bootloader unlock.

im saying that if i convert to google play edition CAN I FLASH AN AOKP ROM IF I DONT LIKE IT, i would NOT want to return to sense, right now i am running aokp with s off and unlocked bootloader

This will NOT work on a CDMA HTC One GSM ONLY!
PSA After converting you will not be able to flash Sense based roms due to the different size of the system partitions between the sense version and the GPe. To get back to sense please follow the steps in post #2

Guide to GB ROMS?

Hello all,
I like many others, I have installed the new GB ROM from the RUU supplied by HTC and it is "OK". However, i would like something else.
I have seen many guide to install ROMS and it seems more or less clear.
My problem, and maybe the problem for other noobs if the fact that there are so many ROMs out there. It is difficult to know which one to take.
For example, I am looking for plain old stock android 2.3 for the desire. No sense, no extra HTC apps. Just what google would have on the nexus 1. But, I cant figure out which ROM fits that.
Any ideas?
What would be great is sticky which lists the ROMs and their main features for all us noobs. Unless there is one already and I didnt see it
Get Oxygen Rom mate its nice and basic , if u want to go too basic get DevNull
But for starters i think u shud go with oxygen
Pm me if u want to discuss any other details

Well, if you installed official Gingerbread 3.14.405.1 RUU, you can't get root (yet). No root means that you can't install custom rom.

Isn't there one already?

watch the video tutorial too - but it sounds like you want an AOSP rom
Yup, you definitely wanna try Oxygen + it was recently updated to Android 2.3.5.
It's sense free, all bloatware removed, very fast & minimalistic.
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=149 (it wasn't updated on XDA yet, but you can download it from there)
CyanogenMod7 will also fit you.
Should have read into what you were doing before you updated. You can't root now, which means no custom ROMs for you. HTC updated HBOOT so no more rooting for the time being. You're stuck with it till someone cracks it. Unlucky dude.
My recommendation:
Sense (2.1+3.0) : InsertCoin 1.0.9
AOSP: Oxygen
no MIUI from me...sorry..
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of days or weeks at most until I can root. I recall the same situation last update.
It sounds like oxygen is the way to go. Once the root is available I will give it a shot. Thanks.

[Q] How to remove the ICS 3 button menu on RUU 1.29.980.11 (Australia Optus)

Hi all,
I have the latest stock version of Australia Optus (i.e. RUU 1.29.980.11) and I am looking to find how to remove that crappy ICS 3 button menu.
I have tried to search the forum, but it does not have the one that is suitable to my phone.
If anyone can do it or point me to the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S - I can't post/reply to threads in development section since I only have less than 10 posts. I tried to ask endursa in the thread, but can't.
Search harder. There is a mod for odexed (i.e. stock) but you need to be rooted and hence bootloader unlocked.
So if you're going to do all that you might as well flash a custom ROM e.g. one with this option baked, or say ARHD then add the mod.
there is stickies on how to root and custom ROM in the dev section. please read carefully lol.
If you're a total noob at this you MIGHT want to wait until the official 1.29.980.11 RUU exe is made available by someone. If you brick the RUU is your get out of jail card (basically lets you flash back to stock factory). Unfortunately due to HTC's stupid S-ON and locking in general, we cannot flash even an older RUU say 1.28, as when we updated to 1.29 stock it updated a bunch of stuff like HBOOT etc. that right now custom roms cannot touch.
I'm also looking for a solution to this.
I've seen the odexed solution but that only seems to work on 1.29.401.11 stock

Look in the ARHD thread as a compatible mod

Having Nexus software on my HTC One M8 Dual sim

Hello All,
I am new to the forum and first of all I want to say thanks for every one who contributed so far.
I was able to unlock and root my htc one M8 dual sim using info from a thread on this forum.
Now i am wondering if I can make my phone have Nexus software (the software on nexus 5 phone)? I prefer the pure google version vs the Htc version.
How can this be done? I assume flashing a custom rom? Please if someone can explain to me or point me to a direction it would be great.
Mostly I like the way nexus outlines the contacts and the dialpad (missed calls, dialed contacts...) better than the htc.

I think what you want is the GPE conversion. It's stock Android.

Not sure if it works with dual sim.
Yes stock android GPE is what I want. But the link you provided doesn't seem to work for dual sim.
or maybe I should try what's suggested here?

You are right. hehe sorry im new to android scene, its a bit confusing at first.
As per my google research, I am yet to find a GPE for HTC M8 dual sim, which doesn't seem logical in my head.
The current software (sens) is based on GPE right? so GPE should be available somewhere....or I am halucinating?

[Q] Can custom rom's firmware base be different then what my phone came with?

Hi everyone, enjoying my awesome M9 like everyone else =D
and its time to move on to the custom rom goodness.
I can't seem to find an answer to the question. (maybe its too obvious? coming from s3)
Mine is a M9 (hong kong), with 1.32.708.15 (s-On) and all the custom roms are 1.32.401.17 based.
Is it safe to Flash it?
This is the only info i managed to find at the ARHD 5.0 OP with regards to the question.
"- If your current firmware version doesn't match ROM firmware version, wiping data inside AROMA is highly recommended!"
Would be nice if I can get some confirmation from you guys.
Yes it is fine right now since it is the same base. Get soff while you can so flashing firmware in the future is easy. Remember always backup first. Use twrp 2864

I did this on the M8 before, I had problems with the wifi and it took ages to boot until I found out that my firmware is old and different from the rom.
Anyway, I did what you are trying to do yesterday, (firmware 15/ rom 17) for a couple of minutes, didnt find any problems.
Before you flash any ROM, BACKUP your system and move it to your PC and use the latest TWRP
Thats good to hear! I'm gonna give it a try once i'm back in town! Thx!
Please Help me!
I have a HTC (M9) Verizon, and base is 1.33.605.15, it is advisable to downgrade the base to 1.32.401.17?? (for install customs roms with this base)

NOOB : HTC One M8 Sense to GPe

Hi guys
New to all this stuff, have a bunch of questions here it would be nice to get answers
browsing the forum, found many threads of GPe custom roms
Is there a way to convert to Stock GPe Rom ?
What are the most popular Custom GPe Rom ?
Is there a way to revert to absolutely stock settings in case of a major catastrophy or mind change ?
You need a lollipop firnware, then you can flash all GPE custom roms from this forum.
Full converting is possible but ONLY if you have S-OFF ! You need the full RUU to do that.
If you just want to try GPE roms i suggest to just flash a custom one. If you don't like it you can easily flash a sense stock or custom rom again.
Converting back to sense needs a sense stock firmware and/or the full sense stock RUU.
Read on the GPE custom rom threads and see what YOU like, try it. The most popular doesn't mean the best, the best rom is the one that suits you the most
Happy flashing !
I've been running skydragon gpe (just couldn't face the hassle of going full gpe) almost exclusively since I got my m8, and each time I have flashed other (mostly sense based) ROMs I've flashed back to SD within a day or so
It's a lovely clean and smooth rom!

If I understand correctly, full convert as well as converting back to stock is possible, I come from a nexus ecosystem, I am familiar with stock android experience and pretty uncomfortable with sense, touchwiz and stuff... I want to fully convert my One M8 Eye GPe and revert it back only in case I have to sell it

Well, I thought maybe with two pounds of luck it would work, there's no m8 eye forum in here
what are my options here ? no full convert ? custom rom ? stick with sence & install google now ? that last one was my starting idea but I really really hate the notification center icons....
