[Q] CWM - Sony Xperia ZL

I want to try flashing the carbon rom and CWM is required as mentioned in the instructions. After going through the threads, I have found out that only older firmwares can flash CWM. How do I install CWM for phones with 4.3?

1. Download flashtool
2. Download carbon rom, and open the zip file, extract the boot.img to your desktop
3. Turn off your phone, and hold vol up while plug the usb
4. Your phone supposed to be on fastboot mode (blue led)
5. Click on lightning icon, and then select fastboot mode... After that choose flash kernel via bootloader and then open boot.img
6. And you're done !
Before that, you need to unlock your bootloader

[Q] Reinstalling my Xperia arc

Hi XDA community,
the last two days I rooted and unlocked the bootloader of my arc. My current build version is .42.
Because I'm fairly new to this scene and not sure how to do various things (or I'm too dumb to understand these installing-instructions), I would like to ask you some questions:
1. How to do a factory reset with a rooted & unlocked arc?
2. I want to clean my SD-Card - am I able to delete all the files on the card without getting any issues with my OS etc?
3. After I "cleaned" my phone, I would like to install CM7 - could you give me a detailled instruction how to do it (because I really don't get it which step I've to make first (e.g. kernel etc))?
Thanks in advance,
1. Flash firmware again using FlasTool
2. Yes
3. Search
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
You can do all what you've asked with a recovery tool. I recommend you clockworkmod.
1. download and instal the clockworkmod on your phone
CWM -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741
2. download CM7 zip -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102523
3. Copy the CM7 .zip to your SD card
4. Enter recovery mod (power off the phone, then start it up and press rapidly the vol. down button)
5. make backup
6. wipe cache, do factory reset
7. go to "instal zip from sd card" and choose the CM7 .zip
Or just see the FXP CM7 link.
Root .42 & Update to .62 OTA
You Can be on the latest firmware with root ....
Update OTA fafter Rooting ........
a) Your Boot loader should not be unlocked (Default setting by Sony Ericsson)

help with CM9 install on xperia play r800x

HI
Im trying to flash cm9 on xperia play r800x with unlocked bootloader. after i flash the kernel i boot into to recovery using fastboot boot recoveryPLAY.img cmd to access CWM to install the cm9 zip. as i click on the zip file i get a error message E:Error in /sdcard.cm-9-20130120-nightly-zeusc.zip (status 7) installation aborted". I was curious to see if there was a problem with my phone so i tried flashing the UK rom wich i flashed it successfully. I even downloaded a new cm9 file but i still got the same result.
Read the op again.

Did you flash the zesusc zip in CWM? Make sure your on official 2.3.4 firmware and flash cm9 kernel before going into cwm.
I'm on the official 2.3.4 firmware and I flashe the img file froma the cm9 folder then went into recovery. I don't underatand what you mean by putting thezesusc.zip file in the cwm.

Make sure your boot loader is unlocked
Use cm 9.1 from here get.cm.com Zeusc 9.1
Copy boot image from Zeusc file zip and place on your PC. Connect phone turn on mass storage mode and put the intact cm9.1Zeusc zip on SD along with a copy of google apps signed for ics 4.04 on sdcard
Turn phone off then hold search button while you plug the USB light should appear blue
Flash the boot.IMG file using flashtool. Selct kernel to flash via fast boot.
Once done unplug phone the turn on.
Clockwork mod is on the boot.IMG file use cwm not to install the zip.
Be sure and create a back up before you wipe/ then install zips

chery2k meant was to put the .zip file on your SD card and install from cwm:good:Looking at your 1st post your problem seems to be a status 7 error this sometimes is associated with a bad download problem or with cwm or sometimes reading your device ro.build.product.If you are still having problems I would suggest downloading again which I think you tried but I would also try a different kernel that is compatible with cm9.
Your problem does not seem to be how you are flashing but what you are flashing :good:Just make sure you flash your kernel of choice first followed by your rom cm9
I unlocked my bootloader through sonys website. I just wana make sure I understand correctly. In addition to flashing the img file that's in the cm9 folder I needless to flash a kernel. I was only flashing the cm9s . img file and was using the recove
ry image cmnd
to enter cwm.

[Q] From Stock to Custom

Here is the phone I have:
My Current Phone: Sony Ericsson XPeria Play
Model: R800i
ROM: Stock GB 2.3.4 (at the moment)
Kernel: Stock 2.6.32.9-perf
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.58
It's un-branded phone that I got via eBay from a seller in Hong Kong.
I wasn't sure if the bootloader was locked or not so I followed the steps to unlock and got back that it was already unlocked.
I would like to install a custom ROM, but the 1st issue is that I can't install a custom recovery via X-Parts for some reason, I install the app, run it and click the install CWM and the app states that it installed OK but if I try to reboot to recovery via the app or via pressing any button on the phone while booting it just won't load the recovery. Any Ideas?
The only reason I want to install the custom recovery is to backup my current stock setup, but if there is a way to return to stock without need of a nandriod backup of the stock ROM then I can skip this part since I use Titanium Backup.
having said that, what would be the steps to follow to go from the Stock ROM I have to install a custom GB, ICS or JB ROM? (if there are any differences)

In case you want to return on your. 58 firmware, you can search for the .ftf of that firmware (just google it, or go under smokerman's roms and firmwares list under development section), download and flash it via flashtool, and your phone will be resetted to the original setup.
During this process, you will loose your data (so your apps and your apps' data), but if you have titanium backups, then you're good to go
Just search on the web if you dunno about flashtool yet

Thanks CriGiu (also pressed the Thanks Button BTW) Now I know what to do if I want to return to the stock ROM... now what would be the steps to follow to go from Stock to Cutsom... would these be the correct steps?
1.- Flash a Custom FTF via Flashtool
2.- Flash a Custom Kernel via Fastboot
3.- Flash a Custom ROM via Custom Recovery
Is this correct or am I missing something?

Yup, and you should flash .79 firmware at the first step, in order to have some of the latest features, like the ability to have custom partitions layout (needed by kernels like Lupus Kernel by wedgess, or Turbo Kernel by Cosmic_Dan).
And another thing you should do is to wipe system and data via fastboot after you flashed the kernel, using:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
This is needed if you wanna try kernels with custom partitions, or you'll be not able to boot into the rom, or the cwm itself

Remember those steps, it's alpha and omega in Play's flashing :silly:
You don't have to do all 5 step all the time, usually you'll flash ftf firmware file only once, you'll wipe system and data if you flash kernel with different partition layout, and most of the time step 5 is needed to flash custom roms
Just keep in mind that kernels can be only for certain type of roms (gb stock, ics stock, aosp, cm7, cm9 muiu type of roms)
Best way to know wich kernel to flash is to read ROM thread and see what recommended kernel is.
OK I have installed CM10 MaXeD but it reads "4. Install touchpad fix( GSM ONLY)" my phone is GSM but I can't locate this fix? anyone has a link to this fix?

[Q] Before flashing.

This is my first post:silly:
I would like to ask do I need a stock 4.1 android before flashing CM11. No website says such a thing but the original thread says yes.
Also how to install CWM on Xperia m because I am lost...:silly:
Please help and thanks if anyone does
Oh and also how to get back to stock 4.1.2 then
Not necessary, but if something goes wrong while flashing custom ROM, you will need that stock ROM to flash.
It is always good to have stock firmware..
for the CWM, first of all you need to unlock your bootloader.(i assume that you unlocked it.) and download cwm file and extract it on desktop then go to flashtool and conect your mobile in fastboot (use volume + key) blue light will appear.
click on flash button- fastboot- flash kernel.after finish start your mobile and start pressing volume + key..you will boot in recovery mode.
Thanks if helped

Which ROM are You trying to flash? If it is a Kitkat ROM as You mentioned, then first copy the ROM and gapps to phone for flashing purposes .
Now, on PC, extract the boot.img from rom zip and flash it via fastboot. Then flash the ROM via twrp which would be installed from that boot.img!

You must have not flashed the rom after flashing the boot.img. That's why it used to get stuck on boot logo of Sony. The kernel(boot.img) of any Kitkat ROM won't with JB ROM as far as I know.
Don't worry, there is still hope since You can at least get it to boot up halfway.
That flashing the original ftf is weird. Are You sure the ftf file is proper? Try downloading a new one. or if You were able to successfully able to flash the original firmware according to flashtool, try flashing it again using Sony Update Service(SUS). Can't guarantee the SUS will work or not.

Hello.
I'm trying to get this **** working as well, but even though it seems like you gave some crystal clear instructions I still manage to not understand it. I unlocked the bootloader on my S and downloaded. All I really wanted to do was get a good 4.4 ROM running, any chance you could toss an idiot some help?
From what I understand:
1. copy the ROM zip-file over to phone
2. connect phone to pc and fastboot it
3. flash the boot.img from the rom zip-file
4. flash the ROM (how?)
I did a quick google on twrp but don't quite understand what I need it for or if I need it.
EDIT: After a bit of looking, apparently the ROM I'm looking to flash (Paranoid Android) installs twrp when you flash the boot.img. Just in case that changes anything.
Brick?
Hi. So I just tried to flash the boot.img from the latest Paranoid Android, got 0 errors or bad blocks, succesful flash according to cmd. I did fastboot reboot as the guide here says: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526866
LED notification goes pink for a few seconds, I get the Sony logo then just an infinite black screen. Left it on for about 15 minutes with no success. I tried force rebooting/shutting it down with volup+power for 5/10 seconds, but both of them just result in the phone getting instantly turned back on and going pink LED->Sony logo->black screen. This means I can't (from what I can tell anyway) boot into fastboot (vol-up+connect to USB does nothing, vol-down+connect to USB gets me a green LED for a few seconds but then goes over to pink LED, Sony logo and then black screen).
I would really appreciate any kind of help right now, even just advice on how to turn this phone off would be fantastic, because right now that also seems impossible.

No worries! If You were able to perform upto step no.3 properly, then when You boot into twrp(Press volume up button 2-3 times while booting up), there is an option there called as "Install". In that You select the zip file of the ROM and slide the bar to install it!

Holy **** this might have just done it! It wasn't actually twrp but CWM I believe, but I did manage to successfully flash the ROM. Seems to be working as of right now so fingers crossed and a massive thank you!
