Officially Sold out - Moto 360

Motorola has come out and said the watch is sold out and to expect “availability may be limited for a while.”
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Moto...ects-limited-availability-for-a-while_id60341
If LG has their units ready to go, and priced right, this could put a damper on the 360 sales. Moto better start producing more quickly.
Clearly they were not ready for this launch.

This is so pathetic. They've been hyping this thing for SIX MONTHS!! They announced it two months ago. How could they possibly not have enough units ready to go? It's sad really.

Who's getting one?

Hey all
Along with many other manufacturers, Asus has thrown its latest smartwatch into the wild. On the face of it the device looks sleek, with a leather strap rather than the plastic ones we're seeing with a lot of other smartwatches. Its expected to be around the 200 Euro mark, and although not as fully featured as devices such as the Samsung Gear S, the price point seems about right for the feature set and specifications. Has Asus done enough to tempt anybody?
I've had an LG for about 2 months.. yeah i think i'll sell it and go the zenwatch
I was going to but I got impatient and I went with the G Watch. so far I am very pleased with it.
Really liked this watch in pics but they were taking too long. So I got a 360.

I love it. Convenient to just glance at your wrist to see info instead of having to pull out your phone. And the abundance of custom faces keeps it exciting because you can have a different look everyday.
I'm really struggling with myself not to get a LG G Watch or Moto 360 - How the struggle ends, depends on when Asus start shipping. I've preordered the Zenwatch at expansys, but the news that there'll be only 300 released in the first batch has dampened my high hopes....

Is that actually confirmed by Asus? I only saw an article with no official source. Just a claim.
I can't see Asus only releasing 300 in the first batch. That would be a joke. I'm sure they have 300 already that are being used as demo devices.
The article in question is this one: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/asus-zenwatch-limited-release/

Yes, that's what I'm hoping for too. A batch of 300 just wouldn't make sense. Unless they are completely hand crafted, making 300 or 300.000 should really make no difference, once you can assemble a single one. For my peace of mind, I'll stick to the theory that 300 units is bull poo.
Ive preordered one but disappointed about the only 300 rumour and not likely in volume before 2015. Come on asus, get them out there...

Unless there's a shortage of components. Seeing as most of these watches appear to have the same innards that could be an issue?
300 does seem to be deliberately contrary though! Might cancel my pre-order and get the new Microsoft watch instead, just to spite any manufaturers trying to play the market.
No updates though?

Oh - I just jizzed in my pants! Looks legit: http://shop.asus.co.jp/teaser/
This will be the first product I buy new in many, many years. For a long time now, I've always bought second-hand. But I want this watch so much I will be buying it as soon as it becomes available. Originally, I thought I would be buying the Apple Watch, but once again the greedy ****s have priced their product beyond reasonable. That, and I don't have an iPhone anymore (no big loss).
I actually have a Moto 360 on the way because I got tired of waiting. As soon as I can get my hands on the ZenWatch, I'll sell the 360.
I'd actually wait in a line to buy this watch.
I think I'm gonna pick this watch up along with a gear s when ever that is released
Looks like it's being released today in Japan. Anybody know if the Zen can make voice calls?
More like "late November" as far as i can tell.

Yeah, well the 300 number was right, for the price anyway:
"ASUS is October 28, has announced it will launch Android Wear equipped with smart watch "ASUS ZenWatch" the (WI500Q-BR04) in late November. Assumed actual sales price 29,800 yen (tax not included)."

Moto 360 2nd Gen release in early 2015?

Very odd announcement from Lenovo exec about when Motorola would release the 2nd gen of Moto 360, looks to be in early 2015...if this is true, I am hoping they at least fix the crack issue.
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/131...ation-smartwatch-could-arrive-early-next-year
If this is true I guess I will be waiting for the 2nd gen then. I was about to pull the trigger to get a 1st gen.
The f is this they should give us upgrade discount or something we just got this

It's a losing battle keeping up with technology and gadgets.
Although this may be true, I highly doubt it would be as early as January (CES). I mean, this model just went on sale in September. Also, Lenovo officially took over Motorola not even a whole month ago. I would think he probably means first half of 2015, which could mean May or June 2015. But, obviously, this is all speculation.
I was waiting for a moto 360/cognac...may be prudent to wait a little longer until there is more information...it looks like the Motorola group is always looking to improve the models; possibility of a refresh, keeping the same form/shell, changing certain things like ambient sensor, more robust back, etc. Either way, tech always evolves.
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
I really hope it won't be released too early...I just got mine for barely a month.
This could also be good news in a way.. The more revisions that are released the sooner they will stop selling/producing the original 360. So higher chance if you got the Best buy protection plan, that theyll give you the newer model if yours gets damaged
I dunno, execs make stupid comments like this all the time not recognizing how people will interpret them. They spent something like 2+ years developing this thing, and ran into so many technical limitations they had to use the flat tire look, and now suddenly all of that has been resolved? Has pricing come down in snapdragon processors so much that they can incorporate a new cpu? The industry doesnt just shift like that. My guess is his definition of "2nd gen" is probably something stupid, and is just typical marketing speak from people used to bull****ting and hyping everything all the time.

Very possible. Though, as a device developer myself, when I send out iterations of a current gen though, I am already working on the next iteration whether it be a facelift/retrofit, or a second gen altogether; so from an engineering perspective, it is also possible that they had come up with a solution for ambient light a month after sending final specs for manufacturing the first iteration (which has happened to me similarly). Since other android wear makers were not as limited on budgets as Motorola (word is that Google really didn't properly fund them), they were able to come up with similar sized watches with 'better specs'...if Lenovo budgets them correctly, they might have already had a solution for all of this, but not the money...I really love the design of this watch though, and hopefully there is more tangible information on the second version soon. Even in its current iteration, it is a very compelling purchase; I have not been this interested in a device in a long while.
Will I wait?
I saw yesterday that the second version of the moto 360 may be out soon. This feels like a marketing blunder as I can't be the only person now thinking I'll wait
Meh, if it happens and they improve the cracking back, remove the flat spot on screen, and throw in a speaker I'll probably go for it.
I bet we can get at least $150 for the OG model so upgrade $$ shouldn't be that bad...

I think a rumor about a v2 moto 360 is way off. Officially it is out for about 4 months now and its considered to be one of the best (if not THE best) choices among Android Wear smartwatches so there is absolutely no reason for moto to show an early v2 of it. I will probably get it next month or early March after HTC`s event. The weird part is that we know we are getting the old processor, the smaller battery, the flat tire display but we still prefer it over LG R. It is just too beautiful to pass.

Good points.
Yeah, the hardware may be "dated" but it does the job. If that's what Motorola had to do to meet an affordable price point, then kudos to them.
Granted, I'm not a spec whore. All I care about is does it do what I want and is it quality. For the most part, the answer to those questions is "yes", fully realizing that Android Wear is arguably still Beta.

Moto 360 2nd gen release date

[Q] Should I Get a Moto 360 Now or Wait for v2

The Moto 360 was released in September of 2014. We're in almost June of 2015. Am I too late to buy the Moto 360? What I mean by that is: Should I hold out for v2?
Originally, I was on the pre-order list due to my excitement. But I voluntarily left due to some financial challenges that came my way. Now that I have spending money again I'm exploring the possibility of getting the Moto 360.
I should say that I am by no means a professional developer. But I am a huge wrist watch fan. I own several Nixon, Citizen, Fossil, and a Rolex. Will I get the same wow factor out of this watch when I wear it? Will I find it useful in my every day life? Mainly work and family life.
I've also missed some really good deals, including when Radioshack sold them for $100!
Your opinion on this matter would be most appreciated. Thank you.
I think you should wait but then again the prices have dropped for the current version so it just depends on you ultimately...
If you are low on funds, just get the 360.
If you can afford to pay full price and tax for a new one, it'll be worth waiting until at least Google IO to see what releases. Things have changed now that the potential new 360 might have just passed BT certification.
I got mine a few weeks ago, and it looks and functions very well. Should you wait for the second gen? A wise man might wait for a release date on the second gen, then buy the first gen in time to return it if you really want the second. Reviews might be out by then too, which might help you decide.
Will it wow you? I have never worn a watch for more than two days in my life. Now I never leave home without it. For that reason alone I say it might. If it can turn me into a watch wearer, it's a solid product.
I never try and justify my purchases; if the product blows then it blows. The Moto 360 is good kit. As always, YMMV.
Both. .
At this point its worth waiting, which is what I decided to do.
I like that idea actually. Buy the first gen and try it out, if I don't like it I can return it (within the terms of return) for a refund and put it towards the second gen. Thank you!

Get the first gen at the best discount you can get it. Value for money is even better for a first gen at $130 or so versus a second gen at $250+. But you may want to wait to see if the 5.1 update with Wi-Fi and always-on screen still allows one full day of battery life (which I kind of doubt). If the new features are almost unusable due to battery drain, you may want to wait for the second gen. If the new update also comes with battery life improvements from Motorola then I suspect the first gen will be again in high demand
Like Steve Jobs once said: "it's the software, stupid !"
I just got one yesterday, with clubcard boost. If you want it now, get it. I don't get this hanging around malarchy, there's always new tech around the corner.
I would check to see if there are any Radio shacks in the second wave of closing - I picked up my 360 for $125, and they just received a few more that day (no idea why a closing store is receiving expensive product, but......). For full price, it was iffy. For close to $100, it was a no brainer...
I would wait for v2. Mine was already two times in repair because of the cracked back so unfortunatley I will have to sell it and wait for new 360.

I'd wait. I picked mine up a month ago. I love it, wear it everyday, but I wish I would have held off. Watch + screen protector + BB insurance = cost of 2nd gen.. Kinda depends if your budget.

I grabbed one 4 days ago. You can easily find them at $179 and occasionally at $130. At that reduced price it's ok to grab one now IMO. v2 may or maynot come out soon but this is a capable watch that has shown to hold up well.
If you get it from Amazon you'll have 30 days to decide if it's right for you.

apples to oranges?
cost of v2 + screen protector + BB insurance = way more than what you spent
Kinda curious how you know the cost of v2 anyhow share
Just remember, the v2 will be running the same Android Wear software as the current Moto360. I'm sure the new device will be faster, have a better screen, and a better battery life. But I doubt it'll change your life any more than the current 360 would. I got a great deal on mine at roughly $100, and for that it's great. For $100 it's worth it to me just to be able to stream music to my BT headphones when I'm jogging. But otherwise I consider Android Wear a little awkward. The Google Now notifications are pretty poorly managed, "tilt to wake" doesn't work well enough, the whole user experience of Android Wear is poor, and I'm constantly nervous about using features that will drain the battery. If I bought this thing at full price then I'd be disappointed with it, but at $100 it's a fun toy. I believe it's still the best looking smart watch on the market, so I enjoy wearing it.
I wanted to buy even with the imminent v2. The $150 price at Best Buy helped me make my decision as was the ability to get it with the Cognac strap.
wait google io
Moto 360... $135.00!!
Best Buy has $100 off Moto 360 making the leather strap version $149.99 and the steel one $199.99. Add to this the USPS "movers" coupon (free at the post office with no registration required!) and you can pick up the leather for $135 or the steel for $180!

G5S plus..

Nope. As with many things electronics if you wait a day, week, month, year, something better will come along. One can either choose to wait and wait for the newest best thing and never buy anything, or they can buy now and not worry about it. As with many things as new products are introduced existing products are reduced in price (or discontinued).
The rumored specs of the soon to be released new Moto phones have been circulating for a few months now. One could have waited to buy the new phone if they wanted. <shrugs>
My only concern with Moto introducing so many different models of phones is their support (firmware updates, bug fixes) for all phones will suffer. In typical Motorola fashion, the updates/fixes for the Moto G5 Plus are already lagging months behind.

Yeah, the thing is, it still kinda is. They know people want the newest, best stuff. No reason that the G5 plus couldn't of had these little extra features they've added to the G5S. But this way, they get even more money out of people because they know they will buy it.

No, it isn't. The device still has the same specs. Just because something came out with the same price and slightly higher specs doesn't mean our phones have been downgraded. It doesn't change the performance of the phone. What they ARE doing, however, is taking advantage of people's lack of self control and tech addictions. They can come out with a SD835, 6GB RAM model tomorrow for $50 less than what I paid for my G5 plus and I wouldn't care the slightest bit. I love my devices and I love technology, but if you always have to have the absolute best technology or absolute best deal at all points in time, you will never be happy and will constantly complain when technology moves forwards and you failed to predict the next item being released.
Not really, we all knew what we got when we bought this phone. Its not an powerhouse, it doesn't have the best camera, its just a good decent phone. If they slapped the Lenovo tag on it it wouldn't be such a big deal.
It's still a good phone that you can easily use for 2 years. Plus the specs are nearly the same so I am guessing the software is going to be pretty close together too. If they just keep rolling out updates I really don't see the problem.

So then, bigger screen, better camera(s) full metal body and the same price as what the G5 Plus was.

6 months is a very long time in the tech world. Most flagship device at least comes down one third in price in 6 months. In comparison I have to say that g5 retained some good value.
Moreover I am not seeing it as a big update either.

No not really... This phone works fine and it'll continue working fine even when that new model comes out.
In my opinion it's not a replacement of the g5 plus but it's a different phone in the same lineup. For example I haven't considered the g5 plus because of the screen that is too small for me, but I'm definitely considering to buy this one.
I'm just waiting to see how the g5s plus performs in real life and how much community support it will have.
Sorry to resuscitate such an old thread but I was just wondering how hard it would be to port a ROM over for the g5s+ or if there might be Dev support for it. The specs look EXACTLY the same except for the better camera and bigger display. If there will be Dev support I might be interested in buying one as they're on sale for the holidays.
Why do people say the S plus is a better camera?
Just because it has two doesn't make it better.

Right! From all reports I've seen, the G5S+ camera does not perform well. However, I understand the camera 2 api is enabled on that device, so I'm very annoyed that it's not on the G5+. But in hardware terms, the G5S+ is a big yawn, for me.
As far as I'm concerned dual cameras are nothing but a gimmick, in most cases. There are a few implementations that work well, but most are hit or miss. Coupled with a screen that's larger than I want, it all adds up to an unappealing package. Obviously, others' mileage varies.

V30 hints at possible US pricing

According to GSM arena the price is the V30 may be $750 USD. See link:
https://www.google.com/amp/m.gsmare.../lg_v30_will_probably_cost_749-news-27084.php
If so this is good. LG isn't going the Apple Samsung route and asking crazy money for their flagship. A few month down the road you may be able to pick one up for something in the high 500 to mid 600 dollar range.
I will likely pick up V30 in the near future if the price turns out to be reasonable and sooner if there is some kind of deal/offer.
I'm hoping it's around that price. I avoided the 5 and 6 for lg, but still like their phones. I will be getting this and setting the 8+ aside for a while.
I'm also hoping they do some sort of pre-order deal too. Still using the 200gb card from the v20 pre-order.
I had the G6 and fell for the S8 hype and really regret it. I cant have any samsung phones, they always suck for me. Im waiting on the apple event (dont flame me) to make my decision on what i wanna get to replace the S8. But the V30 is a very strong contender.

Same here. Bought the G6, sold it to get the GS8. I have no idea why I keep trying Samsung. Great phones, yeah, but they never work for me (Note 5 is the lone exception). Bixby was a royal pain in the rear. Anyway, after flirting with the OnePlus 3T, I am back to and enjoying the G6. I am seriously considering the V30.
I have just been in heaven with these releases. First the Galaxy Note8, then the V30, with the Iphones, pixels and Mate 10 launches to follow. All fantastic phones. I have no intention of buying the Note, Iphone or pixels, but I love watching and reading about these phones when they are announced.

Up until the last two or three years I always had Samsung starting with the original Galaxy S to the notes 2 - 4. Then the LG G5 to Axon 7 to Nexus 6P and this year a V20.
I do sometimes miss the S pen and the Samsung camera have always been good for me. I traded in my G5, that wasn't being used, for a Note 8 preorder. I will also be getting the V30 as I carry two phone (work & personal). We will see which one become my go to device.

I am waiting on the V30. I have had much better luck with LG devices (G2, G3, G4 and the G6) than Samsung. However, the Note5 and GS3 were devices I loved. If I don't hear much from LG regarding release date for the V30, I may just jump to the Note8 or or give the GS8 Plus a go (now that I know how to inactivate Bixby).
I wish that they would announce the release date for US carriers already

What is there not to know? South Korea gets it September 21. The rest of the world gets it after that. Assume early October for U.S.
The U.S. carrier unlocked will be after that. Currently rumored for "mid-October", but I'm skeptical because normally they give a month or so for carriers to fleece suckers on "contract" before they unveil the good stuff. [emoji14]
Actually I wouldn't mind if LG delayed the V30 another week or two IF it means improving the few quirks that was noticed in the pre-release devices.

I had the G6 and fell for the S8 hype and really regret it. I cant have any samsung phones, they always suck for me. Im waiting on the apple event (dont flame me) to make my decision on what i wanna get to replace the S8. But the V30 is a very strong contender.

You have a right to your opinion, just as anyone else does. I've got the S6/G920A and now that LG has finally gotten away from putting the power and volume controls on the rear of the phone, I'll grab the V30 next week and probably never look at Samsung again for a flagship phone.

I just wish lg would give a ballpark for us when they announce, or at least release shortly after. A month is a ways out when other companies are right around the corner.
Either way, I made up my mind - I'm getting the 30. I miss lg. I wouldn't have left, but the 5 and 6 were failures though. Still miss my g4.

The Power button/finger print scanner is still on the back. Has been that way since G5, as well as the volume buttons on the side. G4 had both on the back. That was a while ago.
I've heard one person mention that the camera in auto mode isn't that impressive again. If true I'll be very sad, it's what bothers me most about the my V20.
I know manual mode can be very good, but I don't always have the time or inclination to fiddle with it to get the shot.
Bodily at least it's improved over the V20 or it's just the pre-release software.
I just read release date is Sept 15 and the phone is priced at $1000 CDN....

I can't open the link, maybe it just my smartphone.
That would be equivalent to 822. 60 to US dollars. I was expecting less, that's still to expensive for me to consider.
Hopefully actual price is less than that. If not I'll just wait, LG prices drop pretty quick usually.

Thank you Milan, I can still live with that configuration. Its the volume controls I really had a problem with on the G4, as well as switching over from Samsung devices.
Just read the price will be 899€ in Europe. Yeah...no, won't buy. WTF are they thinking?!
Now I don't know which one to buy, the LG G6 is stripped down in Europe. I don't want Samsung (bad experience), sony's are shaped like bricks. Will look into huawei.

Yeah if they are going to fallow the Samsung, Apple model in pricing that will really diminish the appeal of this phone.
BUT if you a little patient LG's prices tend to drop fast. I'm ok waiting a few months for prices to become reasonable. My V20 gets the job done and sounds great worth my good portable headphones/ in-ears. I'm not in a hurry.

Especially if you know that the V30 is finally on par with the Samsung S8 in hardware, but that one came out months ago and is now 200€ less + 128gb free sd card.
So @LG, it is not because you bring competitive hardware to the market 6 months after the compention did, that you can price it as the price 6 months ago.
