According to GSM arena the price is the V30 may be $750 USD. See link:

If so this is good. LG isn't going the Apple Samsung route and asking crazy money for their flagship. A few month down the road you may be able to pick one up for something in the high 500 to mid 600 dollar range.
I will likely pick up V30 in the near future if the price turns out to be reasonable and sooner if there is some kind of deal/offer.
I'm hoping it's around that price. I avoided the 5 and 6 for lg, but still like their phones. I will be getting this and setting the 8+ aside for a while.
I'm also hoping they do some sort of pre-order deal too. Still using the 200gb card from the v20 pre-order.
I had the G6 and fell for the S8 hype and really regret it. I cant have any samsung phones, they always suck for me. Im waiting on the apple event (dont flame me) to make my decision on what i wanna get to replace the S8. But the V30 is a very strong contender.

Same here. Bought the G6, sold it to get the GS8. I have no idea why I keep trying Samsung. Great phones, yeah, but they never work for me (Note 5 is the lone exception). Bixby was a royal pain in the rear. Anyway, after flirting with the OnePlus 3T, I am back to and enjoying the G6. I am seriously considering the V30.
I have just been in heaven with these releases. First the Galaxy Note8, then the V30, with the Iphones, pixels and Mate 10 launches to follow. All fantastic phones. I have no intention of buying the Note, Iphone or pixels, but I love watching and reading about these phones when they are announced.

Up until the last two or three years I always had Samsung starting with the original Galaxy S to the notes 2 - 4. Then the LG G5 to Axon 7 to Nexus 6P and this year a V20.
I do sometimes miss the S pen and the Samsung camera have always been good for me. I traded in my G5, that wasn't being used, for a Note 8 preorder. I will also be getting the V30 as I carry two phone (work & personal). We will see which one become my go to device.

I am waiting on the V30. I have had much better luck with LG devices (G2, G3, G4 and the G6) than Samsung. However, the Note5 and GS3 were devices I loved. If I don't hear much from LG regarding release date for the V30, I may just jump to the Note8 or or give the GS8 Plus a go (now that I know how to inactivate Bixby).
I wish that they would announce the release date for US carriers already

What is there not to know? South Korea gets it September 21. The rest of the world gets it after that. Assume early October for U.S.
The U.S. carrier unlocked will be after that. Currently rumored for "mid-October", but I'm skeptical because normally they give a month or so for carriers to fleece suckers on "contract" before they unveil the good stuff. [emoji14]
Actually I wouldn't mind if LG delayed the V30 another week or two IF it means improving the few quirks that was noticed in the pre-release devices.

You have a right to your opinion, just as anyone else does. I've got the S6/G920A and now that LG has finally gotten away from putting the power and volume controls on the rear of the phone, I'll grab the V30 next week and probably never look at Samsung again for a flagship phone.

I just wish lg would give a ballpark for us when they announce, or at least release shortly after. A month is a ways out when other companies are right around the corner.
Either way, I made up my mind - I'm getting the 30. I miss lg. I wouldn't have left, but the 5 and 6 were failures though. Still miss my g4.

The Power button/finger print scanner is still on the back. Has been that way since G5, as well as the volume buttons on the side. G4 had both on the back. That was a while ago.
I've heard one person mention that the camera in auto mode isn't that impressive again. If true I'll be very sad, it's what bothers me most about the my V20.
I know manual mode can be very good, but I don't always have the time or inclination to fiddle with it to get the shot.
Bodily at least it's improved over the V20 or it's just the pre-release software.
I just read release date is Sept 15 and the phone is priced at $1000 CDN....

I can't open the link, maybe it just my smartphone.
That would be equivalent to 822. 60 to US dollars. I was expecting less, that's still to expensive for me to consider.
Hopefully actual price is less than that. If not I'll just wait, LG prices drop pretty quick usually.

Thank you Milan, I can still live with that configuration. Its the volume controls I really had a problem with on the G4, as well as switching over from Samsung devices.
Just read the price will be 899€ in Europe. Yeah...no, won't buy. WTF are they thinking?!
Now I don't know which one to buy, the LG G6 is stripped down in Europe. I don't want Samsung (bad experience), sony's are shaped like bricks. Will look into huawei.

Yeah if they are going to fallow the Samsung, Apple model in pricing that will really diminish the appeal of this phone.
BUT if you a little patient LG's prices tend to drop fast. I'm ok waiting a few months for prices to become reasonable. My V20 gets the job done and sounds great worth my good portable headphones/ in-ears. I'm not in a hurry.

Especially if you know that the V30 is finally on par with the Samsung S8 in hardware, but that one came out months ago and is now 200€ less + 128gb free sd card.
So @LG, it is not because you bring competitive hardware to the market 6 months after the compention did, that you can price it as the price 6 months ago.

Is anyone losing interest in the G3 while waiting for release dates to be announced? Its odd how the phone was announced almost a month ago and still no carrier outside of verizon has a release date. The longer LG waits the more we hear about upcoming flag ships that can lure away potential buyers from the G3. I call T-Mobile and nobody knows of anything, I haven't lost interest yet but my patience is running thin!

A little bit, for sure. To me, what's worse than taking a while to release a product after announcing it, is not even giving customers a firm idea of when they'll be able to get their hands on the product.
I'll still probably buy it, just because there isn't another phone that offers such a large screen in a relatively small form factor. But this process has definitely sullied my anticipation, for sure.
Shouldn't be that long now right? I mean the UK release is on thursday & Europe isn't much long after that

You know, I was thinking the same thing this weekend. I was really looking forward to the phone, but since the announcement, nothing. And the longer they delay the release, or the longer there is silence, I am thinking I may as well wait a couple months for the galaxy prime/F, galaxy note 4, Motorola X +1, any other phone coming out. LG had my undivided attention in late May. Now, not so much.

I agree I'm growing tired of waiting, the Note 4 sounds nice but I'm not sure about touchwiz anymore so I'm nonchalant with phones as of right now
Count me in, if LG wanted to be a real competitor this go round they should have planned a global release. Getting bored with my Note 3 and TouchWiz looking forward to Sony's upcoming Z phone.

Very much so.
I had 100% expected to pre-order this phone, however since it was announced I've been getting less and less interested in it. A few reasons why:
Shipping with snapdragon 801 rather than the 805
Poor screen in terms of contrast, brightness, over sharpening. While offering only a debatable increase in sharpness
Very, very poor battery life in some aspects (compared with equivalent flagships)
Overheating issues with the screen, and SoC to a lesser extent, but still more than other phones
Each one is only a minor issue, but overall they add up.

On its own, it's not that poor. But when you compare it (specifically the screen on time, which is important to me) to the M8/S5/etc then it's far from good.

That's reassuring to hear.
I really want to like the phone. I've got the upgrade itch from my N5, and the G3 sounded great with the larger screen, but not quite being Galaxy Note sized.
I guess I need to wait until they're around and have a play with one, then see if it's something I can justify overall.

I don't want to buy another mobile phone within at least 2-3 years as I'm starting high studies and I won't have much to spend then, but I really need a mobile that can handle everything and can last a lot.

One can always wait for the next great product.
If you like the features then get the phone. It has gotten good reviews and has a good reputation here.
Go for it. This phone should last you the amount of time you want it to without it feeling outdated by the 1 year mark. Hard to say what will be our in 3 years but I plan to keep mine for to better part of 3 years.
I'd wait and see if there's gonna be a new nexus phone with L or go for the N5. This phone lags sometimes, has pretty low development activity (yeah, I know the reason, no complaint but a fact). After my nexus 4, I should've gone with the N5. The G3 is an okay phone in my opinion and looks sexy but the wow factor is missing for me...
The phone is great ..... but its really what you want your phone for and whether it fits those particular needs, I'm afraid there is no absolute answer, its about your needs and whether this phone fits them or another is more suitable.
I would advise research and checking it out and the competition, sorry no easy answers.

I'll try to tell you my history, from a person that doesn't change their phone every 3 months, or.. in a better way, a xda-user exception.
Got the Gnexus almost on the end of its lifespan (4 months before Nexus 4 release). It lasted 2 years when I gladly changed it to LG G3.
I saw a lot of reviews to after choose LG G3. What you will see outside is questions about the battery life due to the "unnecessary" QuadHD display.
Having a Gnex for 2 years is undoubtedly a nice school for battery life and screen on time use...
I really don't care about that after having that phone for 2 years.. and in every aspect besides battery life, LG G3 wins (for me).
So, tl:dr, buy it without doubt, grab a spare battery if you care so much. The design and the display of LG G3 destroy every other phone released till today.

Well, yeah, if you can't wait, go into a shop and try it, play around with it and decide how it feels for you. At end it's gonna be u using it I'm not happy with it but I'm okay with it personally. Only reason I got it is that I broke my nexus 4 and got a good deal on it from my SP. Otherwise I was thinking about ordering a nexus 5. Had it in my hand, used it before, I just simply love nexus phones for aosp android, quick updates knowing Google is behind it and if they screw something up in the software they will be quick to release a fix while manufacturers won't be, and to be honest they make shifty UI except Sony imo but I had 2 Xperia phones, both were flagship devices and both sucked.
But as said before, it's your own personal preference. Try it in a shop and you'll see it for yourself. It looks really sexy with the huge display with the tiny bezels and reminds me of the nexus 5 a bit as well. Though I miss my aosp android experience and the quick updates. I however appreciate for instance the IR control and the camera.

The Note 3 was announced early last September and released at the end. Samsung staff have been told there's going to be no annual leave around the middle of Septemeber, the correlates to what happens around their releases. There's no way they'd wait over a month from when they announce to being on sale.
The G3 struggles with the 801 powering it. Check out the videos of a comparison of the G3 805 Vs G3 801. Check out the articles on Samsung's new QHD screen technology also,it uses less power. There may be other better phones out later this year or next but it would be mad to buy an 801 QHD phone when the other major companies are about to release their 805 versions.

Just out of interest, would that be a grey import? The cheapest I can find in UK which is probably imported from EU is £390 which is about 480 Euros. Or is it second hand? Makes more sense if it is the latter.

Would love to read about their new screens using less power, do you have a link?
I was holding out hoping they would start getting desperate to get the recalled units back, let's hope this is the case, so i guess i should hold out longer now Nd see what happens. They should give us discounts on the next phone, but that doesn't really help being on contract for people like me on the next plan, if i switch the s7 edge right now, I'm locked in for a year unless I pay off half the phone, its a mess but I'm hoping this mess blows over soon, I dont want the S7 but I will use it temporarily until a real upgrade drops, otherwise I'll keep my Note 7, really just depends in what Samsung is willing to do to get me to give it up lol.

I was feeling the same until, in the interests of safety and concern I might need to fly unexpectedly, I swapped for an S7E. The phone is fine. I miss the iris scanner a bit. I barely used the s-pen. I think the battery life is better. I can totally live with this phone for a year or two. I'm on the Jump plan but I really don't make use of the upgrade option much.

I think I've already made up my mind with the LG V20. So I'll pass on this offer.
Discount or not, many will still be in a contract if they were forced to take the S7...
Doesn't seem like this speculative deal is just for hold outs, but for anyone who owned a Note 7.

LCD? Really? I just can't see beyond that glaring weakness.
So far this offer appears to only be for users in South Korea - Samsung may simply never make the offer worldwide, that would be somewhat extreme and basically cost them double what this whole thing is costing them at this point in time.
Perhaps this offer arose for Korea because some 500 people are sueing them there already?
Now a S7 Edge explodes. wtf?
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S7-edge-explodes-while-charging_id86908
So I can sign up for an S7E then get a Note 8 upgrade mid term at 50% off? http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...korea-makes-it-easier-buy-galaxy-s8-or-note-8
Assuming they extend this offer to the UK that is. Well I returned my N7 and am awaiting a call from Carphone Warehouse to upgrade to the S7E. But I guess I'll only do this if they extend the offer to the UK...
COME ON SAMSUNG....it's not just S. Korea that have been screwed over.

I would be willing to bet that almost every model of phone has had a couple examples of individual phones having meltdowns. It's called "acceptable risk of failure"
i.e. the manufacturer tests and does calculations on their product, and analyzes it to determine how likely the device is to fail, and what the potential damage from said failure would be. If the financial risk due to that failure is lower than the cost to lower the failure rate, they don't care about it (unless the failure rate would be so high that it would draw negative media attention, such as the case with the Note 7).
I imagine that Samsung did this with the Note 7 - they looked at the situation and figured "well, we can swap to the single battery maker for xx million dollars, and replace existing batteries (as well as potentially the glass and body), and the failure rate risk will be lowered to 1 in whatever number of phones". Then when they did that, they realized that the continuing failure of first gen phones, combined with a very small handful of second gen phones (yes, there were 25 or so failures after the phones started being replaced, but not nearly all of those were second gen phones), the only options were either do a full recall, and mitigate the potential financial liability from a lawsuit, or do a complete recall and re-release the phone after putting it through even more extensive testing and possibly an update or repair to the hardware (requiring full recertification and testing for most countries they are sold in that require such certification). The cost was too great, and the risk was too great, so they canned the phone.

I wonder if the editor of that publication read the article before he wrote the headline? The article says 50% off screen repair costs. It says nothing about a 50% discount on an S8 or Note 8!

Oh of course. I'm actually brand neutral. I have tried many brand of smartphones over the years.
Starting with the HTC Dream, and then I've had Motorola, Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony and one more that slipped my mind.
The smartphone has become such a personal device for me, it has already superceded my laptop usage. I've had cheap smartphones in the past and I had enough of those. Few months ago, decided to have one super smartphone that does everything I need. And the Note 7 looked like it fit the bill. But we know how that ended up. And the S7 Edge doesn't quite fit the bill for me.
The LG V20 looks good for my daily use. I totally understand why you'd disagree. But we all have our personal preferences. And the V20 might just work out for me. At the same time, it would be the first time I'd try LG.

How was your Xiaomi experience? I'm eye-balling the Xiaomi Note 2 that just dropped today as a temporary device until the S8 or Note 8 comes out, something to just buy outright and enjoy. But never owned anything but Samsung, so yes I'll def lose the Samsung Perks, I.E. Samsung Pay, Gear VR Etc. But looks-wise Xiaomi did a DECENT job imitating the Note 7, that Skin is just blehhhhhh though.

They're decent smart devices for the price.
However, most reviews of smartphones (every smartphone, not just Xiaomi) fail to cover is the call quality. I mean, it's a smart -phone- after all.
I make phone calls all the time. My parents, my in-laws, my wife, friends, etc.
Once, my wife and I had the Redmi 2, and it was one of the most frustrating experiences we had. We were constantly struggling to make out what we're telling each other.
We've since switched phones. She got a Galaxy S6, I got the Xperia Z3 Compact, VoLTE and HD Voice was like butter to our ears.
I got the Note 7 initially, so that we could communicate using 3G video calls, something not many smartphones support. But now that the Note 7 is discontinued, I have to search for an alternative.
I was quite close to settle for the S7 (no Edge), until I discovered the V20 also supoorts 3G video calls. So I'm giving that a shot.
Edit - Oh and charging was slow. After experiencing quick charge, you can't go back.
To be fair, I'm not sure about the newer flagship Xiaomi phones. But I don't think I'll be getting another Mi phone soon. I am eager to try OnePlus 3 some day.
My country the only option is to get the refund. So will I still able to get the discount rate for s8?

So far, reports suggests it's only in S Korea. Not worldwide.
Anyone else a little annoyed they're releasing a new version already with dual camera for almost the same price that the standard plus released with? I know it's still basically the same phone with a slightly larger screen and improved? Camera. But I'm definitely a little peeved
Yup it is a little annoying but Lenovo seem hell bent on having more models in the market than anyone else.
I am also a little annoyed by it. Planned obsoleteness at it's finest.

Nope. As with many things electronics if you wait a day, week, month, year, something better will come along. One can either choose to wait and wait for the newest best thing and never buy anything, or they can buy now and not worry about it. As with many things as new products are introduced existing products are reduced in price (or discontinued).
The rumored specs of the soon to be released new Moto phones have been circulating for a few months now. One could have waited to buy the new phone if they wanted. <shrugs>
My only concern with Moto introducing so many different models of phones is their support (firmware updates, bug fixes) for all phones will suffer. In typical Motorola fashion, the updates/fixes for the Moto G5 Plus are already lagging months behind.

This is not planned obsolescence. Releasing a successor to this device does not change a single thing about this devices performance or usability.

Yeah, the thing is, it still kinda is. They know people want the newest, best stuff. No reason that the G5 plus couldn't of had these little extra features they've added to the G5S. But this way, they get even more money out of people because they know they will buy it.

No, it isn't. The device still has the same specs. Just because something came out with the same price and slightly higher specs doesn't mean our phones have been downgraded. It doesn't change the performance of the phone. What they ARE doing, however, is taking advantage of people's lack of self control and tech addictions. They can come out with a SD835, 6GB RAM model tomorrow for $50 less than what I paid for my G5 plus and I wouldn't care the slightest bit. I love my devices and I love technology, but if you always have to have the absolute best technology or absolute best deal at all points in time, you will never be happy and will constantly complain when technology moves forwards and you failed to predict the next item being released.
Not really, we all knew what we got when we bought this phone. Its not an powerhouse, it doesn't have the best camera, its just a good decent phone. If they slapped the Lenovo tag on it it wouldn't be such a big deal.
It's still a good phone that you can easily use for 2 years. Plus the specs are nearly the same so I am guessing the software is going to be pretty close together too. If they just keep rolling out updates I really don't see the problem.

If it was the same spec it would be called the Moto G5 Plus, clearly there are differences to make it yet another model.
So then, bigger screen, better camera(s) full metal body and the same price as what the G5 Plus was.
We've been shafted lads and lasses.

6 months is a very long time in the tech world. Most flagship device at least comes down one third in price in 6 months. In comparison I have to say that g5 retained some good value.
Moreover I am not seeing it as a big update either.
Sent from my Motorola Moto G (5) Plus using XDA Labs
No not really... This phone works fine and it'll continue working fine even when that new model comes out.
In my opinion it's not a replacement of the g5 plus but it's a different phone in the same lineup. For example I haven't considered the g5 plus because of the screen that is too small for me, but I'm definitely considering to buy this one.
I'm just waiting to see how the g5s plus performs in real life and how much community support it will have.
Sorry to resuscitate such an old thread but I was just wondering how hard it would be to port a ROM over for the g5s+ or if there might be Dev support for it. The specs look EXACTLY the same except for the better camera and bigger display. If there will be Dev support I might be interested in buying one as they're on sale for the holidays.
Why do people say the S plus is a better camera?
Just because it has two doesn't make it better.

Right! From all reports I've seen, the G5S+ camera does not perform well. However, I understand the camera 2 api is enabled on that device, so I'm very annoyed that it's not on the G5+. But in hardware terms, the G5S+ is a big yawn, for me.
As far as I'm concerned dual cameras are nothing but a gimmick, in most cases. There are a few implementations that work well, but most are hit or miss. Coupled with a screen that's larger than I want, it all adds up to an unappealing package. Obviously, others' mileage varies.

I especially liked the iPhone X and LG V30 comparisons about 8 minutes in.
By the way this video is an "extended" version of this Forbes article:
The LG V30 Is As Underrated As The iPhone X Is Overrated
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin...ed-as-the-iphone-x-is-overrated/#7c3addc72028
He's just more colorful -- with a some cursing (against obviously biased tech reviewers) -- in the video. So for those who don't have time for 14 minute video, read the article first. If you like it, you can watch the video. Especially towards the end of the video he ably demonstrated how the LG V30 unlocks better, faster than the Samsung Note 8. You can't "show" that in an article.
The main point is he actually has ALL these phones himself and uses them everyday. He's not some dilettante reviewer who just uses an Android phone for a few hours to write an article, then blindly goes back to their iPhone flock with the other iSheep.

IMHO knock code is the most brilliant innovation by LG, and (surprisingly) it's not available on any other phones, been using it since G3 and can't live without it on a daily driver - it's just so convenient. A little complaint though is starting from lollipop LG has required the code to be at least 6 taps instead of 3.

AFAIK, they are different. On HTC you can tap the screen twice to wake up the phone then enter the unlock code to unlock it. On LG you can enter the knock code when the screen is off then immediately unlock the phone.

It's hilarious because I blew my JUMP and down payment on the V30 to get the V30+ because I wanted a black one. Now I use a case to cover it 99.9% of the time.
I still think double the storage and headphones were worth it though.
I just think next time I need to be patient. If I'd waited one month, I'd have gotten the one I wanted originally.

Double storage is great. That's part of the reason I stopped waiting on the unlocked. I'll keep this 30+ though as it's the free one, so I'd rather have the black one since I'm keeping it. If I had planned on jumping one I had through jump, color wouldn't matter too much though. The good thing on my end, when I jump my other, I still have a whole set of accessories that was never used. I have so many USB C cables now just from the s8 and s8+'s I've jumped and BOGO'D. ??

If root and whatnot gets devs onboard and the price drops cheap enough, I may grab a V30+ unlocked version. This one is doing pretty good though. I only really need 1 app that requires root and I can run that on my S3.
