This started a week ago when I tried out a new rom with this problem. I clean wiped and downloaded another more stock rom, and the problem still remains.
Basically, the headphone sounds great as always, other than the few times when too many apps are updated and the sound becomes choppy. However when someone calls me or I call someone, the headphone looses all connectivity yet it still thinks its connected. When I try to play music or any other audio after this, it too now plays through speakers and not the headphone. Only when I take it out it and put it back in does it sometimes turn to normal. Otherwise the only thing I can do is a reboot.
Tried this with 2 different headphones.
Lost root for now so don't have the logcat.

Hello,
When I boot my phone without my earbuds plugged in, the speakers of my phone are working fine. But I don't hear sound from my earbuds when they are plugged in.
When I boot my phone with my earbuds plugged in, my eadbuds are working fine. But when i take them out, my speakers aren't working. (both the speaker on the back and the speaker for calls)
I've searched google and this forum for solutions and both didnt work.
(I checked if my volumes were muted. but they were not.)
I'm using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
Things I've tried:
- Wipe Dalvik cache and cache and update to the latest version.(08-11-12) Problem still exists
- Complete wipe of my data/cache/dalvik cache. flashed boot.img and installed rom again. Problem still exists.
- Different kinds of headsets. ALL of them give the same problem.
- Different kinds of apps for playing audio. All give the same problem. (Even the phone app)
Anyone got any ideas? I'm new to this so please be noob friendly.
Thanks
Forgot to mention: I use Hboot 0.43
Something is probably screwed up in system and I don't see it wiped from your list. Try factory resetting from cwm recovery AND format /system in cwm mounts and storage. Then flash cm10 nightly. Since none of the above will wipe boot partition, you may choose to not flashing boot. Img. However I would from your pc using
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then reboot.
Sent from a gadget on my balcony.
Thanks for your reply, unfortunately this did not work. The same problem still persists. Could it be that my hboot version is causing the problem?

Don't think so. But... Check your PM in 5
Did you try it with a different ROM to see if you have the same problem?
I tried installing another rom. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784185)
This has not changed anyting. I also found out that when someone calls me (When I have booted with eadbuds plugged in) I can hear the other person speaking through my earbuds. But when I put the call on speaker (Earbuds still plugged in) the sound does go over the speakers. But when I unplug my earbuds and try calling over the ear speaker I hear nothing.
I also forgot to mention that this problem occured randomly. I did not make any changes to my phone, or installed any new software/apps before it happened. From what I can remember I was listening to some music over my earbuds, and when I got called i plugged out my earbuds and tried to answer the call. From that moment the problem exists.
Also, when my earbuds are not plugged in (and i booted with them plugged in) and i plug them in, my music starts playing. When i dont have them plugged in, start playing music and plug them in my music stops playing. And when i'm listening to music over my earbuds and take them out my music won't stop playing like it's supposed to but it keeps on playing (even though i dont hear any sound from my speakers)
Try an ics rom please. Not a jb.
Tried installing an ICS rom. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601408) This unfortunately didn't fix it.

Try reversing what caused the issue?
Long shot but could work.
So by the sounds of it this would be.
Play music through speaker,
Call yourself.
Plug the headphones in and answer.
Then restart the phone or whatever and let us know?
Hope this works

Too bad didn't work. Also tried playing music through headphones,
call self
Plug out headphones and answer.
No sound :\
Okay it just got even weirder.. I found out that when i plug in my earbuds halfway, the phone opens the google thing where you can speak what you want to search.. When i plug them in normally it does'nt. And now when i dont listen to music over my earbuds and i change the phone volume, I hear the preview beep over both the speaker and my earbuds. I Really dont get what got into my phone
Bump, Still didnt fix it. When i boot with earphones plugged in, and take them out all sounds work, but music and phone calls only give sound over earphones. So this means nothing is physically broken. You guys got any more ideas? Installed Hboot 1.39 and Blade V4.0 rom. Didnt change anything

So I had something similar with my previous phone, Palm Pre; plugging in headphones caused intermittent speaker/headphone issues that was very inconsistent as well as triggering apps when half-in/out. In my case it was a physical issue, the jack had some pocket lint in it. I removed the fluff from a Q-tip, dipped the naked tip into isopropyl alcohol and cleaned out the jack. Other Pre users also mentioned that one of the contacts on the side-wall of inner part of the jack is "button like" in that it is pressed when the headphone pin enters the jack. When fluff builds up, the pin can force crap behind the contact and prevent it from being pressed properly.
Swabbing out the jack helped once or twice, but ultimately I gave up on using the headphones. Now that I'm jaded about it, I really wish the One X had a cover.
Thanks for the reply, but I dont think it's a physical issue, Since my ringtone still plays when i'm getting called (after booting with earbuds plugged in) and i can still call over the back speaker. Just not the front speaker. The issue is only there with media/music and calls. But how is it a software issue if updating my radio, changing my rom, and updating my hboot wont work

Bump, Anyone got any ideas? this is really annoying, having to reboot my phone every time i want to listen to some music and every time i want to make a phone call :\

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, I tried searching around but I couldn't find anyone dealing with this issue before with the GS3.
I've had this problem with the Motorola S305 Bluetooth headset I started using with my GS3. Basically it would have problems going back to regular non bluetooth calls after I would use the headset, even with bluetooth off the call would turn off and on over and over again, but eventually with repairing bluetooth or forceclosing bluetooth share and the phone app I was able to get it to go back to making calls normally, using the speaker for audio as well.
But 3 days ago that changed, I couldn't get it to make calls after I had used the bluetooth headset to listen to some music for a few hours. It'd take 20-30 seconds to launch the phone app and by then it'd have zero audio. The people I called said there was no volume when they connected, and music wouldn't come out of the speaker again. I tried the fixes I had used before, no dice.
I tend to run rooted but just haven't had the time lately to get back to it, so I've been running stock, nothing complicated, but I figured when I pulled the 4.3 stock upgrade that would have to fix it....but it didn't, same issue. I also factory reset, no difference. I can still bluetooth pair and get audio to the headset for music, but i can't make calls that way, seems to have the same 30 seconds of jammed no changes.
I took it to sprint, they had no clue obviously, it wasn't a corporate store and the closest one is a hour and a half away. I'm about to actually call them and demand a replacement be sent, but I should be able to figure this out somehow, am I missing something? I hope someone has dealt with this stupid issue before.
Hi there.
I'm facing an issue with my note 2 since a few weeks.
When i plug in a headset with mic to make a call, the sound isn't redirected through the headset, it remains on the phone speaker.
This is quite annoying and it used tk work perfectly. I noticed that during the call when i plug in/plug out the headset, the sound goes tbrough the headset , but only for like 1 sec, then back to speaker.
I've tried with 2 diff headsets.
FYI, during music and vid playing, the sound goes though the headsets. Really odd issue.
i also face the issue that when i activate the BT, and try to stream the music to a BT device, the sound goes back to the speaker.
It used to work also but not anymore. Its not a pairing issue, i've tried many times.
I guess both issues are connected. Any help to solve those problems would be appreciated.
THX
No one ?
bump cause i'm still facing the issue
Hello Community,
I have recently updated my Note 2 from Macksrom to Carbon Rom 4.4. The upgrade is awesome, very fast, looks pretty. Just all good, till i plugged in my headphones.
Now, I am quite adept at changing the rom on my phone, done this many times, and never had this issue before. So my question to you is, is anyone else having issues with their headphones on kit kat?
Tech stuff:
When rom was installed, data, cache, and dalvik were wiped. The proper gapps was installed. I use CWM.
When playing music on my speaker, it works just fine. When i plug the headphones in it does not work unless i'm at the home screen. When I try to open an app the sound is gone, when i check notifications sound is gone, and when i lock the device, guess what sound is gone. I can do all the aforementioned tasks with out a problem when playing music through the speaker. Just can't with the headphones.
Now i have tried a few things to resolve the issue, i have uninstalled the music application, I have removed the dsps i have in place, i have rebooted the phone numerous times with headphones plugged in and out. Tried different pair of headphones, and yield same result.
So for now i've run dry, I would not want to downgrade to macks rom again. But if my headphones won't work on my device i will do so.
Any input would be helpful.
Hi all,
I have a quite common problem as I see in Samsung forums (example). A few weeks ago I connected my A50 to a BT speaker, then as soon as I disconnected it, the sound stopped working (system sound, media sound, etc.) and the audio & video playback is on FastForward like 5x mode. So if I play a video, an audio message, etc, I see the seconds of playback go crazy, sometimes at 2X rate, sometimes at 5X, sometimes slowing down...
As soon as I connect a BT audio device, the playback is normal again and I can hear everything. Sometimes if I reboot the phone, the sound from speaker comes back for a few minutes, but then it disappears again. Lately even reboot does not help.
I updated to latest version (A11, Jan 2022 Patch) and did a factory reset via recovery. The problem is still there.
Rebooting in Safe Mode make the sound works! But not immediately, I have to reboot in safe mode, let the phone settle down a few minutes and then I hear sounds. I check the sound with secret code *#0#*. Then when I go back to normal mode, even without any google and samsung account connected, without all personal apps, without SIM, the sound does not work.
Will a custom ROM solve this issue definitely? Or do you know how to solve it while keeping the stock ROM?
I also tried to debloat the phone disabling 125 apps via Universal Android Debloater but it did not help.
Im facing the same problem , did u find any fix?
This occurred on default os - i did factory reset and it wasnt fixed - installed a custom os and stil nothing.
Have you tried cleaning out the headphone jack? Sometimes if there's gunk in there it'll cause an intermittent or long term short that makes it think there's headphones plugged in.
