Cloning is highly illegal...however...you can pay straight talk 15 bucks and activate their service easily through their website legally...and everything works...including data and mms

I blacked out the MEID, ICCID, and IMEI. So what must I do to make this receive mobile connection?
As long as you have a clean phone released by sprint, you can go through straight talk. There aren't many people at straight talk that know how to do it. I had to call them, and you need to make them understand that this is a byop Sprint Samsung galaxy s3 on sprint's 4g/LTE cdma network. I had to hang up and call back a few times to get someone who knew how to switch it over. I was already on straight talk with a droid x2 through the byop program, and they were eventually able to transfer my service to the s3 at no cost to me, and have my service end date transfer too. Persistence paid off, now I have a sweet s3 rocking 4g with unlimited (3gb/month) data for under $50/month.

Thanks! yes I called them the first time and they told me it wasn't possible. They said it wasn't compatible.
EDIT: Did they have to create a ticket for you and give you a network code?
I don't remember what number I called, but it wasn't anything special. I went to straight talk, logged into my account and looked up 'contact us'. I picked the number for cell phone support- I remember it ended with 'cell (2355)'. Told them what I had and that I wanted to port my number from the droid to the s3. When they told me I couldn't do it, I told them it was possible. When they argued with me I said fine, I'll call back and get someone that actually knows what's going on. If they pay any attention to the post call surveys, there are at least 5 people there that should be getting retrained or fired. I believe it took a total of eight calls to them to get the s3 on correctly. The last couple of calls required getting to the port escalation department, but I think that was more a fault of the previous provider on the s3 not properly releasing the phone after it was cancelled. Hope this helps.

They made me a ticket and said it could take 24/48 hours to process. Did they have to do that for you?
Yes. That was right before I found out the previous carrier had not released the phone properly. Getting that done quickly involved threatening the old carrier with the better business bureau.

I RMA-ed my HTC Titan X310e from UK because of the GPS Problem in tracking me down .
HTC sent it back with a US Motherboard of the Titan P series, which is from AT&T.
I have a goPhone service before and the UK Titan acquired great 3G for me, but now , i have the 4G icon popup, but i can;t access internet. I can call, text a message and receive them without any trouble.
I thought that even GoPhone services doesn't provide 4G Speed, at least they will still let me connect to the 3G network? Because i can't surf web at all.

I tried. No luck.
But guess what, i swap the IPhone 4S Simcard from my Brother. I was able to get online on that sim.
So look like AT&T locked my simcard? Can they do that? because my simcard is a goldphone one.
A gophone sim will work in any att phone and an att sim will work in any gophone or that's how it is supposed be. If it's not working for you even after using the network tool I would stop in an att store (a corporate owned one) and talk to someone about it. BTW that 4G is still really 3G it's just how att shows HSPA+.

The moment you walk into a corporate owned AT&T store and ask them to fix your phone because you wanted unlimited Internet again on your smartphone, they'll more than likely say its not possible.
The data plans on GoPhone pre-paid accounts were never meant for smartphones, as prepaid smartphones have their own capped data packages you can purchase.
So if you really find someone very nice or helpful (and that is a big if), then great. But more than likely, they will turn you away and tell you that you can only use regular data packages on your smartphone device with a prepaid account.

I think you need to get onto HTC and ream them for sending you back a different phone that what you purchased. You purchased a UK phone, did you not? They sent it back to you with AT&T parts. This is not ok, as far as I'm concerned... if the substitution was not approved by you. It's up to HTC to make your smartphone 'right' again.

Probably because if its got an AT&T/US IMEI, then AT&T is well aware that you are using a smartphone and they can actively block you from taking advantage of smartphone internet without the appropriate data package.
See before, you had an unknown IMEI from out of the country, so AT&T can't make heads or tails of it, and therefore they don't do anything about it when you use it on a plan you aren't supposed to be using it for. But now that they know you are using a smartphone, they say no data plan for you.

When you imported your Titan from the UK, AT&T had no way of knowing it was a smartphone. Therefore, you get to bypass any of their 'requirements'.
For example. I have a $20/mth unlimited GPRS Media Max plan. I get unlimited GPRS (from my feature phone) and 200 sms. Tethering is 'not allowed'. Now, I only use imported phones. I'm able to tether at HSPA speeds and my Lumia 800 from the UK is unrecognizable. Last year, I once put my SIM into an AT&T HTC HD7S and they immediately (and w/o my permission) forced me off my plan. A nasty little call to them and a ticket that took 5 days to resolve got me back on my old data plan.
Long story short. If the imei of your device is not recognized by AT&T as a smartphone, then you're victim to all of their limitations.

If i have to go with contract based... either the way is hurt, because their cheapest plan for an individual is like $69 for calling and data (they just require data for the contract, but we also need calling...)...
So basically, i don't really see the difference between branded and unbranded device if i use the contract-based sim (at least for me - who text and use data alot ) because there isn't much options,
Here is the Update:
I tried the iPhone Microsim in the slot for Titan, little weird, but it works.
The reason that i RMA-ed the phone was about my GPS when it fu(ked up. At least i know it is fixed (somehow) when it was able to acquire the position of mine, little bit slow, but i think that because i am staying inside the house and my location doesn't have great Signal for AT&T tho... ( i usually have 1-3 bar of AT&T inside.) But whatever, it was able to track down where i am and hold it for over 3-4 mins.
I also tried surfing web without Wifi:
So... I think i am going to AT&T store tomorrow. Sign up for a god damn contract...
Okay so I found galaxy note 2 from a craiglist deal, popped in sim card, everything worked great as its a tmobile version but said per seller that it was unlocked. 30 minutes later after the deal my device had been blocked from network use. My sim would no longer work in my older phone, so I called and got that fixed, but I now have a stupid nice phone that im using for a paper weight. Obviously the person who sold it to me either knew it was reported lost or stolen, or reported it after selling it to me, its whatever it happens right.
What are my options? I really want to be able to use this phone and spent a lot of money on it. I appreciate all input.
Try using another sim card I suppose

I don't know if you guys have reading comprehension problems or what... Dude said he used on tmo for 30 minutes and then got blocked, and then did the same thing with AT&T. For those of you that don't know AT&T and T-Mobile now share their blacklists, meaning it will not work on any carrier that uses any of those towers. Sad to say your best option would be to sell to an international user on celltraderonline. Be very clear that it is on the US blacklist and will not work with AT&T, T-Mobile or their sister carriers.
Have you tried any T-Mobile or AT&T MVNO's like Simple Mobile or Red Pocket? That might work. If not your pretty much screwed. Unless you use it in another country.

if the phone has been imei blacklisted it will not work on any united states gsm service that includes straight talk... highly doubt you have a blocked phone working on straight talk
I had another thread going about being blocked on imei.
I just called tmobile and talked to them for about thirty minutes about my situation.
A quick summarization of the conversation is:
- The previous owner has been accused of fraud so that is the reason of the blocked IMEI.
- Can't do anything to unblock it, unless the previous owner retracts ther dues or whatever it is that needs to be payed.
- No third party unlocking will work.
Well for me, I fortunately have his information such as address and phone number and the text conversation still logged on my old phone. Luckily I called him today as a private number to check if he's phone still worked and still does, thank god.
Now I'm planning on calling him up tomorrow and, professionally, tell him my situation. When I met the guy, he didn't seem like a bad guy but hey, never judge a book by it's cover eh.
If he refuses any of these or won't agree to a median than I'll have to take legal actions.
That's my plan that is. I am not going to let $600.00 go to waste on a blocked phone! I'm taking this guy all the way.

not sure but can't you get rid of your IMEI by flashing a bunch of times? I had this happen with my SK4G, my IMEI number under settings was a bunch of 0s. When I called up T-mobile and asked for an unlock code for the phone, it didn't work because my IMEI was screwed up. I ended up having to alter some Hex file in order to unlock it

oh boy - i wonder how strongly they'll track this ...
Personally, I think thats really dumb because its only gonna make people want to it more.

That is NOT rooting. That is using QPST to flash to another carrier and there are so many exceptions in there that it probably affects 0.2% users on here. It just means that a Boost dealer is not going to just randomly unlock any phone and flash it for you.

In order to go after rooting they would need to get SCOTUS to change their ruling. Even an act of congress can't overturn the SCOTUS ruling so it would take a hell of alot of good convincing arguments to get them to do a 180. Apple tried and failed, Google doesn't care if you root or not and Verizon is the only carrier that would really put up a fight against rooting so I don't see it happening anytime soon. The problem is they let old farts that have no clue about technology write these stupid laws. When you have an uneducated person write a law you end up with laws that make no sense. More or less someone's just trying to make up a new crime to generate more revenue personally I'll tell em right where they can take that law turn it sideways and shove it

So I don't need to scramble and root my phone tonight possibly bricking in fit of panic?

No you don't. Lol, honestly even if you want to unlock a gsm phone I wouldn't rush, how the hell will they prove you did it after tomorrow
I like to break stuff!
Lol I don't care
The slight chance I leave sprint for a GSM carrier I'll be sure to buy the play store nexus but I guess not being able to use whatever phone I want defeats the purpose of a GSM carrier
But if rooting becomes illegal I wonder what I'll do

Edit: because every one who's phone I root or jailbreak always tells me the wrong phone name or gets scammed in to getting the wrong phone.
One guy bought a galaxy s 4g from Chinatown with the galaxy s 4g box and back cover but it was a vibrant in disguise
Yup guys lol, rooting is to unlocking as peanut butter is to jelly. They go hand in hand but totally different things

Well there really is no such thing as unlocking a cdma phone. If you are flashing your sprint phone to another carrier you were already doing something in the gray area of illegal.
For gsm this sucks a lot. One of the big reasons to go gsm is the open ability to pop a sim into any phone and use it. I hope this is repealed. Sure, companies are pretty willing to unlock phones now, but I can see that all changing now that the law is in their court.

Really don't care what they make illegal.. ..I don't like rules anyways..!
Just 1 question. What for thay make it? I`m trying understand their law about "music content", they make on it huge money. But unlocked devices? All were made on open code, midified it (even adding 1 letter) & closed it. Which ":silly:" will modify it, if it works well? But if it works sh..ty & developer doesn`t want to improve it why they prohibiting us to do that. If it has sh..t code it can`t have any value, if it really good code & we can improve it (without taking money for & from it), why they prohibit this?
& what they prohibit next..?
Just an fyi, that this isn't for phone purchased prior to the ruling. This ruling is only for newly purchased phones, as in the date of ruling and going forward. Also this is more for large scale/business purchases. Apparently business would buy the subsidized phones, then unlock them and send them overseas for sale. This was the main reason for this new law.
just signed the petition but would like to ask a Q.
i just bought a Sprint S3 with cracked screen and bad esn off craigslist for $125 total
i was thinking about flashing to boost or straight talk but can see that is possibly illegal.
anyhow what if i get a sprint donor phone and flash it over to my bad esn sprint s3?
since its not switching carriers that would be ok wouldnt it?
do i need to take the esn sticker off donor phone and put it on phone with bad esn whenever i do this if i do?

How is that not switching carriers? Sprint is a carrier and Boost is an "Affiliate" carrier or whatever you want to call them. Just just pay Sprint to run off their towers.
Unlocked phones can be used on multiple GSM carriers. If you flashed one to Boost, I personally don't think that matters.

So you're saying you want to take a non-S3's ESN / IMEI and attempt to flash it to the BAD ESN S3?
So when you say DONOR, you just want the other "DONOR" phone's ESN.
Yes. That is supposedly illegal. If you're here even asking if that's illegal or not, I don't think you'll even be able to pull it off.

Hello! I am a repair tech and I have a Samsung T999 Galaxy S III here and when I try to make calls on it a message pops up saying "Not registered on network" and I'm just wondering if there is a fix? I am using a valid SIM card and it works in other phones I have here.

Has the phone ever worked, and if so what were you doing when it stopped working?

The APN settings currently in the phone are below. I don't know the exact settings, but will definitely look it up unless someone can tell me if what they see is correct? I checked the IMEI with T-Mobile and it doesn't have any bad history. The phone worked when I first bought it from a customer, but now that I am trying to sell it, any SIM card I put in there gives me the error.

If you're sure it worked when it was sold to you, and IMEI is in contact, and you're using a T-Mobile SIM...it's very likely he conned you for whatever reason or that HE STOLE the phone, and the owner called T-Mobile to blacklist the IMEI and you're no longer able to connect.
A word of advice before buying a android from someone ask about the original box and when it was bought maybe a receipt if possible. If that person gives you the run around and looks fishy don't buy the phone. Now you got a paper weight and its a win-win for seller since he's really not losing anything. Check if the EMEI matches from the battery on the back of the phone to the number on status of a phone. You can try using Odin as a last ditch effort to stock.

T-Mobile s3 will only work on whatever tower the SIM is for. Say you put a T-Mobile SIM in the phone is useless with out a T-Mobile tower. Same happens if you put a at&t SIM.
I've had 3 galaxy s3 phones and my brother has had a few as well. ALL do the same thing yours does. It just doesn't roam on any other tower then what the SIM is for. and even T-Mobile techs couldn't figure out why. Contacted Samsung about the issue and nothing ever came of it.
Do a manual search for networks. If your using a T-Mobile SIM look for there tower. If you don't see it there's your problem.

Unfortunately, that doesn't matter. It's what happens after that that matters. What needs to be asked is "is this phone on a EIP" (installment plan). If so, then it could easily be blacklisted by the seller stopping the payments. This just happened to me. The sale date and the blacklist date were 2 months apart. So, ebay and paypal were NOT interested in helping me since it was beyond 45 days. My credit card company took over. I got my money back and they went after the seller.
The bigger scam that caused T-Mobile to start blacklisting is people getting a phone for $199 on a two year deal, then selling it for $650 and never making a payment.
edit: the error "Not Registered on Network" is the error I got that prompted me to call T-Mobile only to find out I had been blacklisted. It was the second level tech that got me that information. He knew right away.

Which model? A few Tab 3's are voice capable (without flashing), as is the international Note 8.

I don't know much about this device even though I own one.
There's no normally placed earpiece so I can't imagine using it as a phone, hell, a tablet would look pretty stupid held to my face - which reminds me, no proximity sensor in it....
Revert back to 2.2? This device comes with 4.2 out of the box. No way to downgrade versions that I can see.

I got rid of my phone service a long time ago and just use voip now on with my samsung note with the tmobile 5gb $30 plan, but i switched over to att for this tablet and have been using it with voip with no problems call quality is excellent, speakerphone is crystal clear but i like using my headphones i use grooveip so all my calls to all phones in the us is free. this thing makes a great phone. but knowing that the hardware is there it would be nice to just enable it and have the regular android dialer, the reason i said to revert it to 2.2 was because people have been doing that to enable the specific gsm frequency radio hardware on certain devices.
I think you are not really understanding what we are talking about, true it does not have a built in earpiece like a traditional phone, but it does have bluetooth for a headset and it does have a headphone jack for headphones and speakers for speakerphone and it has the gsm radio hardware for it, im using it right now as my phone using voip with att 4g network and it works great, someone calls my USA telephone number from a phone and my tablet rings, i answer and it works great as a phone..... but it would also be nice to have the regular gsm phone service active on it as a back up and for texting. and 911 so yes it works great as a phone now. we were just trying to flash it to enable the gsm radio
So you are not being helpful at all. because you dont seem to have knowledge regarding the issues we are referring to, and correct you would not hold it to your head because it has no earpiece but that does not matter and also it might look ridiculous to you but others might not really give a sh** what people think.
so to simplify even more , why dont you just stop discouraging people from trying to make things better
Im with @mentalmike99 on this if your not trying to further the discussion in a positive way no need to post. as for Groove IP I never could get it set right to work correctly so I use Zoiper or OBiON with my G-Voice # and they both work great. As far as sms use the G-Voice app or Hangout's now does sms as well. Just an Idea for you to look into for sms.
Hope we can get this figured out. You couldn't use that $30 5GB T-Mo plan on the AT&T GTAB 3 if it were unlocked? If not is the plan tied to the imei & not the Sim card? I was thinking about going to that plan is why I am asking. Thanks
I am using tablet voice with my Google voice number. It works, but I'm not real impressed with it. I only use it on speaker. Having the full on phone active would be a he he plus for me as well, but I'm wondering if its going to happen because of the bootloader being locked still. I can't really speculate about the older tabs because I didn't have one, but I thought the hardware was there and just needed to have a modem fw flashed to enable it. It seems like the ATT version is going to be uncharted territory for a while, but I'm hopeful...

the tmobile plan is awsome but i had to change to ATT because tmobile's cell tower is messed up in my home area so i havent been able to get data for like 2 months here so i finally had to give up on them. trust me i would have loved to stay with them cause i think ATT really sucks, good service technically but price wise no way!. thanks for the info on the other voip services because grooveip works good but it keeps loosing the incoming connection so i sometimes cant receive calls unless i exit and restart the program
As for using it on Tmobiles network, i dont think it would be a problem as long as Tmobile had "refarmed" their tower in your area to the LTE freq. if not then I believe you can only get 2g , not sure on all of that.
Just so you know you will need to get a new tmobile sim from walmart or at least tell them you got it from walmart to activate on the $30 plan.
i really hope we can get the phone part going cause thats the only thinkg i miss about using my samsung note

I bought 4 sims Directly from T-Mobile awhile back well actually I didn't "BUY" them they were free. All I read about it was that you have to Activate online to get that plan which is not an issue for me cause that's all I do is Activate Customers online all day long its just thru my dealer portals lol I guess its kinda different but don't tell anyone shh lol kinding anyway well thats good to know that it should work & sorry to hear about ur tower issue. The coverage map says they have "4G" in my area & people that have stopped buy with T-Mobile 4G enabled phones get 4G here & some of the T-Mo MVNO's I sell get 4G so I think im good to go on that front unless they are selling hspa+ as 4G still then I may b alittle disappointed idk we will see.
So what is the "UNLOCKED" comment about? was that about the Bootloader or Sim Part? If you want a Good site to get SIP info for G-Voice that will work in any SIP App let me know I'll point u toward a site that u can get it free I gave a "donation" & got the GSM band but you can use other bands I didn't see a difference honestly I just think DEV's & Other that do stuff like need paid for their HARD WORK they put in. Diff topic all together I know
Locked is for boot loader, meaning if there are any packages/firmware that needs to be flashed the ATT people may be out of luck. Sprint on the other hand is not boot loader locked. Sim unlocked is something else, mainly moving to a different provider with existing equipment.

Why not?
I use this tablet primarily for voice calls, sms texts, net surf, games, etc etc just like normal android phones out there.
got earpiece at the topside (chrome holes thingy), so when making voice calls, we don't need to use external speakers, just hold it just like normal phones do. It also got proximity sensor.
mine is tab 3 7.0 model t211, GSM HSPA, 16gb.
got to admit tho, earpiece voice not loud, had trouble hearing especially at crowded and noisy places.
looks weird placing voice calls with this huge thing, everyone is looking at me lol.
NO Ear Speaker on a T211 that I know of Included link also

Is that the International Version? I did a search on it & didn't see the Speaker till after I put my post up then I seen this pic on phone arena & I see the 1 with the speaker ur talking about but haven't seen it anywhere for sale I don't believe. Where did u get it & what carrier is for? AT&T?
Most of us are using bluetooth or wired headsets & using our Google Voice with 1 of many app's & ways to use the setup. I personally have 3 diff apps I on my tab that I could use at anytime but none of them are a "Great" or "Perfect" solution to a stock dialer setup like a normal phone. I'm willing to pay a little bit & help with whatever I can to get this done. If theres a dev out there that wants to look into this & uses hangouts hit me up at snyderswireless if you need a file pulled from the tab or whatever. It would be nice to have a stock dialer that we could use.
I know i'm thinking about getting rid of this tab & getting either a Note 8(for the Phone) or Nexus 7(leaning toward this) on T-Mo but haven't made up my mind yet on what I want to do.
the OP original question is IF he buys the tab3, then will phone/mms work.
and the answer is "depends" on which model he buys.
Some work right out of the box with your existing sim out of your smart phone.
Some wont.. rule of thumb would be the price point.. and the screenshot of the device..
I say if its close to 300$ and higher, it may have the capabilities built in..
cheaper tab3's, (and if the phone icon) doesnt show on the home screen..May or May not.
We should start to list the models we have and let him know what we do to get them to do what he wants..
Tab3 - 8" T-315 international version. Phone/data/mms are built in from the get go. just take the sim out of my smartphone and stick it in the tab.
