Flashing different carrier's roms - T-Mobile LG G3

Hey guys, since T-Mobile has unlocked bootloader, are you guys able to flash other carriers roms like at&t?
I'm only asking because im on an AT&T model, but eventually want to flash T-Mobile roms once our bootloader is unlocked for wifi calling.

It would require some tweaking, but in the base idea, yes, they're all the same (with different radios and likely different kernels). You'll want to just wait a little bit and have devs port to the other models. However, your goal of getting wifi calling likely won't work. Maybe I've been out of the loop, but last I checked the app registers your phone number with the T-Mobile network so it knows where to forward calls/texts to. So it more than likely won't work for AT&T/Verizon. I believe Sprint has it now, but same method.

hi sorry, i left out a big important detail. I'm on t-mobile lol. so it would work for me. This is my first lg phone, and i've been on many other phones where we can easily cross flash carriers without the need of porting the roms. I was under the impression that the at&t model was slightly different? i should revisit that again just to be sure.
I was hoping if there was any hard evidence or experience that someone did flash an at&t rom without any hiccups. That'll mean we can do it vice versa.
Thanks for the info.

On other phones this has been possible, I would wait for a definite answer, or make sure you have a backup ready just in case you do try it...

I am on Verizon and I was also wondering if I can flash a T-mobile rom without the risk of an hard brick. I can take the risk of a SW brick.

Why would you want to do this

I'd be careful, there are probably significant differences, you can't use a vz phone on tmo network.

I'm pretty certain that all Vzw phones come unlocked and can be used on t-mobile. Might not get all the bands to work correctly, but will still work.

Vz runs a cdma network for voice and data, t-mobile runs gsm. Some phones can do both, eg Verizon's world phones, but by no means all of them. YMMV

If it is 4g it should be a "world" phone.

Here's the details: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-6991
While the G3 isn't listed, the G2 is so I would assume it will work.

I have flashed a Verizon rom on my T-Mobile phone and almost everything worked fine. You'll need to adjust the apn and delete Bluetooth apn as it fc. The OP stated that he will most likely make a patch to fix the problems

Lets Make it happen, Any model Galaxy3 on any network?

Ok ima try to keep it as short and simple as i can. I have a stock T-999 s3 tweaked to perfection running of Net-10 prepaid with the bring your own sim. Not only that I have it network unlocked so no matter what sim i place in weather its AT&T, t-Mobile, straight talk ect. i have service, each service i can critique to its best functions. Now heres my point. I also have a US Cellular galaxy S3 , rooted, and no matter what i do or try i cannot get this specific model to run a gsm provider via sim card. Im no wiz, but i get the idea, and my idea is to take this phone that is not supposed to operate on gsm carriers and make it operate. A recent example of success doing so was with my Droid Razr Maxx HD, i was able to successfully root the phone but as you all know verizon does not support us gsm carriers within the united states , or even on their network for that matter they block it. however after flashing a different modem, i am currently running t-mobile with great service! So any talk of "its impossible" i dont need, negitivity is not needed. i am fresh to this stuff but it fascinates me. cutting to the chase, what needs to be done to this sgs3 model #SCH-R530U to make it operate and function on a gsm carrier within the United states. Hacking Manipulating and tricking is all welcome that what were all about. Ive tried several things changing to global mode, gsm only,, faking gps positions to outside the u.s. and apn settings among countless hours beyond and im at a loss.. please im open to ideas and suggestions hopefully one day we make every model capable as nevery other
I believe the issue you are facing is because that particular S3 does not contain the necessary GSM radio chip needed to use those networks.
According to this (and its a wiki so it could be wrong):
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III
That S3 does not have any GSM bands for 2G or 3G.
However, once T-Mobile launches its 4G LTE on the AWS band, it should work...assuming the 4G network is both voice & data over LTE AWS.
The RAZR does work cause it does have the necessary 2G/3G GSM radio chip.

Simply put, the Verizon galaxy s3 is the only variant that has both CDMA and GSM bands. So if you wanted to do what you're saying, it would be most possible with the Verizon variant.
But for what you want to do, you'll need a world phone. And I believe the Verizon s3 is a world phone. Just gotta "hack" the GSM bands. Since they aren't active by default. But your T-Mobile att s3 will never work on CDMA. Also not lte will most likely not work on other carriers.

Just curious about this. There is a lot of talk about T-Mobile S3 running/not running LTE once it starts, but what about this setting on my T999?

Data issue...

Ok SO I could not find a proper thread for this since there are SO many threads. The issue I'm having is I got a Samsung galaxy S III that was unlocked, and after I put my ATT sim into it I could recieve texts and calls but I could not recieve data. So I rooted it and applied clockwork with all my mods and figured I could find some setting that would fix it... well I was wrong. I tried global, GSM and LTE settings none of which would give me data. If there is anything anyone can do to help I would be more than appreciative.

While I agree that you should always call at&t so they can register a device to your account, this will not help his current data issue
OP, is this an international s3, T-Mobile or at&t? What firmware/rom is installed? Again, verify your imei is intact
Ok so this is a verizon Galaxy S3. It is rooted running 4.1.2 JB, Kernal 3.0.31. After I got the phone I did go to an ATT store to register a micro sim because i didn't have one at the time. So the imei is registered to my sim card perfectly. I can get calls and texts without any issue but no data. How do I figure out what the apn settings are and if I have the right configuration?

You do realize you're trying to use a cdma phone (verizon) on a gsm network (at&t), right? Different radios. Different technology. Won't work
Well it was unlocked at the phone has a gsm option so if it wasn't compatable I don't see why they would have the option there to actually use a gsm network.

You need to read more.
this phone only supports GSM with EDGE data.* This essentially means that you'll get 2G data speeds (unless you have a WiFi connection) because it doesn't support UMTS/HSPA+ which is required for international and U.S. 3G data. the 4G LTE frequency supported by this phone is only used in the U.S.* For those who don't know UMTS/HSPA+ is the 3G technology used by GSM carriers internationally (and used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.) which is different from the CDMA/EV-DO 3G technology used by Verizon and Sprint.*
This phone IS unlocked, that part is correct. But only for gsm carriers
So its preventing me from recieving ANY form of data possible?? It is a Verizon phone and I have ATT so you mean it doesn't support GSM then right?

You're in an at&t s3 forum with a verizon s3 that has zero data. If you really want to pursue this issue, you should start looking around in the Verizon S3 forums

If I'm not mistaken, some Verizon devices will not work on US gsm networks even if unlocked, only foreign gsm networks.
Saw an article about this, although it might have been a different phone that was being discussed.

If you are going to stick with AT&T, that is the way to go if you want to have data. No worries. Stupidity is only if you didn't learn anything. You had ignorance of the situation and now your don't. Do some research on any phone before you buy next time (especially if branded from another carrier). This can save you a lot of headaches as you have just learned. Just remember some basics from this forum. Good luck.

How would I flash an unlocked SGSIII on a diff carrier?

Hi All,
I just picked up a beautiful SGSIII. It is originally on T-Mobile, I am on AT&T. The phone is unlocked and works fine. My question is, would I flash a rom for the T-Mobile version or for the AT&T version? Or would both roms be the same. I've not yet been in this situation. I've flashed all of my smart phones, just not an unlocked one on as different carrier.
Also, is the hardware internally the same between models? Do they use different parts? I know the outsides can be slightly different.
Thanks in advance. I did a qick search on this forum and didn't see anything to help me.
T-Mobile phone= ROMs meant for T-Mobile phone
You could flash T-Mobile ROMs on an at&t phone and vice versa, but you may end up with APN/data issues. STAY AWAY FROM THE INTERNATIONAL THREAD, DOWNLOAD AND FLASH ANYTHING FROM THERE WILL AND YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
basically the same, slightly different hardware.
Before you go crazy with flashing ROMs, look into backing up your imei.

Radio

Okay this may seem entirely stupid, but coming from mostly Nexus devices I haven't had to worry about radio bands so please excuse me. If I was to flash the AT&T radio would it enable the bands that are not enabled now or is this controlled by hardware?

If your talking about trying to put an at&t radio on a different carrier phone like tmobile, verizon or sprint, dont do it. It will not change your phone to work on at&t because its the hardware that is different.
You can use a tmobile phone on at&t though I dont think you will get at&t LTE though, I think you will get the HSPA and 3g data.
If this is the case trade your phone off or sell it and get an at&t one if you want at&t you would be better off.
You can also dowload any radio apps from play store.

I'm receiving 4g and if I turn it to LTE only I never lose it. But then I can't make or receive phone calls. As soon as I switch to gsm/wcdma/lte I'm consistently switching between LTE and H+. Is there any way to get it to stock on LTE? Also, the reason I'm not selling it is we're getting 4G in my town on t-Mobile at the end of May but right now it's only Edge. So I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile one with straight talk until that happens. I'm stuck on contract with then because I have three phones to pay off, also everywhere else around me has t-Mobile 4g just not my town

As I said, it may cause your phone to be a brick. You can use a Verizon one on any network, just input your carrier APN with your carrier's SIM. You can install any GPE or aosp Rom and it will not have Verizon apps on it iirc.

I honestly don't think so. A: the radios are different. The Verizon one doesn't support any 4G band except 700mhz 13 and it only supports certain hspa and edge frequencies. So it isn't the same hardware wise.
@santod040 might be able to verify my assumption that flashing an international firmware can possibly brick your device.

The firmware from international model will not work, as to it bricking...........no idea on that note(i don't see any reason to find out either, since it won't work for sure). But I know that only VZW firmware will work on the m7vzw. As Uzephi said - the hardware is different.
No it will not work and you will most likely brick by flashing international firmware onto a Verizon one. The radio hardware is different thus making the firmware totally different. Do not do it.
