hey gyz,im in a huge problem.. i've got myself one used desire hd but the problem is that the volume keys r internally damaged..but im interested in flashing custom roms for which i got to know that ,the key combination to recovery mode includes power + volume down in DHD.. i've some plans to cope with it,donno it will work or not
1.edit the generic.kl n replace the volume down's code with the 'search' key's code..
2. let me know if i an use flashtools to flash a firmware without having DHD powered with the battery?.. i mean just like other mtk phones..can i flash a firmware after removing the battery which not also include vloume button issue..?
*is there any way , to fix my volume keys?* plz gyz..help me out
An app called quick reboot can avoid power button hold to certain boots..recovery twrp 2.7.1 is all touch. No volume keys needed to flash Roms and etc

tanx for ur reply bro.. i knew abt those, but is it safe to just have a nandrod backup? i mean in case of hard bricks due to flashing a rom(maybe kernel related misuse), the simple restore of the backup may not boot up device..,as far i know..
btw.. plz gimme the procedure to get root n twrp for my device having no risk of even soft brick/bootloop..
im using stock 2.3.5 in ma desire hd
A hard brick?? If u hard brick, a back up won't do ya any good. Lol. But yeah, always do a back up. Reboot to boot loader and type fastboot get var all. We need to see your specs. Post outcome plz

mmm damn,,,,,
why it doesn´t work? software or hardware problem????
you have thought about replacing it? if not a problem of the motherboard of course
take the step by step disassembly video just in cause... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfatoeWbMRk
okay i think that u dont need this button for to do that u want...
now u can use CWM recovery with the softkeys (android specific buttons)
and to get around the bootloader you can use only the vol down...
if i´m not mistaken there´s no problem mate,,,
also for to enter to boot loader/fastboot, u need press power button and vol - only...
All your answers are in this thread started yesterday:

Long story short i rushed when rooting my GN because im pretty familiar with rooting android phones. I did not realize you needed to modify a file to be able to boot into CWM other than using rom manager.
My question is, is there a way to get the stock image on the phone, or, use my computer to fix this? Because currently my phone is in a bootloop (I installed gummynex improperly, rushing and forgot to wipe data, yeah i know i asked for it.,..)
If i boot into recovery all it does is let me turn the phone on, i cant select recovery or anything.
HALP!
Find stock Google images and flash them with fastboot.

Thanks but one last question, I can only boot the phone into the stock bootloader (whatever the default thing is when you hold the power button and volume down) and in this, the ONLY option it gives me is to start the phone, nothing else
Am i going to be able to push files to my phone in this?
I think this may have just been a MAJOR blonde moment for myself. in order to access CWM and ****, you have to hold both volume buttons and the power button? Because i was just holding volume down and power....

I take it that you were able to flash the factory images and are all set or do you still need some help?
Hi Everybody . few days ago i installed a bunch of application about 30 something and in the same day i dropped my Desire HD .. after that when i was checking the phone the WiFi does not work it gives me "error" under the check box in setting also Bluetooth and WiFi tethering and the last and worst thing is the :
Volume Rocker .. cuz i want to boot to the bootloader and recovery to flash a new ROM .. cuz i think it might fix this problem but the Volume Rocker is not responding .. i want to know wether these errors cuz of the applications i've installed or cuz i dropped it plz Help MEE> .. Any Ideas ??
I KNOW A LOT OF BLAH BLAH BUT PLZ READ ..
Chances are the drop is cause of your errors. But could be a combo of the apps/rom you installed. What I'd recommend is to download the 4ext app and install 4ext touch recovery. So no need for volume rocker. Also you don't need to go into bootloader to enter recover. Most roms have a quick setting to reboot into recover when holding the power button. You can also use rom manager/4ext app tobooy into recovery. Plus you always have adb too
Hello,i need some help.
My touchscreen(and the four touch buttons: home meny back and search) stop working will i was using the phone!
Only the volume buttons work ( up and down) and the power button.
so i rebooted the phone but i cant even put the pin or unlock it...
the phone is rooted and ai using revolution hd rom.
so i started with volume down and power button(to bootloader),where i can go up and and dow to the first menu
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
but when i go to RECOVERY ,the menu is touchscreen ,so unusuable for me....
i want to make the phone unroot and put the original rom to sent it back to service.
HOW can i restore it??is there a way to do it?maybe using the pc?
Yes , you can flash via fastboot , it is possible, but I don't know exactly how .
Probably you have 4ext touch. I remember reading how you can flash ROMs through adb but it might not be the most straight forward thing, so my guess is that initially you can move back to Clockwork mod and flash your ROM from there..
Have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905
My Desire is gonna be 4 years old soon, so naturally a few bits & pieces aren't as good as new. My main problem is the volume down button: It's just dead. It doesn't do anything, no matter how hard / where I press. It used to be that it didn't register anything just after the 3rd-4th try, but now it does nothing at all.
I like installing roms, but now I'm afraid, what if I encounter a bad flash? If I get a bootloop, I just can't get into recovery via the volume down + power combo. And that would mean that my phone is dead. Bricked.
Is there any way to change this combination to, for example trackpad + power button, or something like this? Or is there any way to get into recovery when I encounter a bootloop / bad flash that doesn't require pressing the volume down button?

Back+power button gets you in fastboot. Then select Bootloader, and then recovery.
Or you can use back + power to get into fastboot, then use "fastboot boot recovery.img" to boot directly into the recovery.
Or
adb reboot recovery
From your PC via USB cable, you can type that even when currently in bootloop ( no need to pull battery)
Thank you, I'm a little more optimistic about flashing now
