PrimeTether is a tether mod for T-Mobile G3 LG-D851 10C, 10M and 10R users..
MAKE A "SYSTEM" BACKUP IN TWRP IF YOU WANT TO REVERSE THIS MOD TO TAKE AN OTA UPDATE.
THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE IS FLASHING STOCK TOT OR KDZ FIRMWARE FILE.
1. Download PrimeTether zip to /sdcard/
2. Reboot into TWRP -- Make Nandroid Backup(system/data/neither) -- Install/Flash PrimeTether zip -- Reboot back into System
3. Set APN to IPV4 [Settings/Networks Tab/Tethering & networks/Mobile networks/Access point names/Click APN/Set to IPV4/Back 2x to save* ]
4. Turn On Mobile HotSpot [Settings/Networks Tab/Tethering & networks/Mobile HotSpot/On** ]
*You can leave it on IPV4 or change it back to IPV6 or anything else at any time but it must be V4 if you want to make use of this mod.
**If a box pops up when you enable the hotspot saying "it's the first time you're running this blah blah" click the check box and hit "OK" then back out.. should be the last time you see that box.
**If a "Account Upgrade Required" box pops up when you enable the hotspot click "Later" and try again. Bypass: Rapidly tap the screen right after you turn HotSpot ON during the verification process. :good:
FAQ:
Q: I still can't get tether to work, why?
A: Some regions have IPV4 tethering blocked... some don't. Some areas don't monitor other APNS... some do. YMMV.
If you are still being monitored you may still need to spoof your user-agent on the devices tethered to your HotSpot.... OR try a VPN on your phone (ex. Hot Spot Shield).
Q: Will this work on "_______" rom?
A. It will ONLY work on all stock D851 10C/M/R-based roms, both Odex/Deodex. Carrier/Operator must be set to T-Mobile (TMO) in the build.prop.
Q: Will this work around my usual "3GB/5GB/7GB/etc" tether limit? If I have unlimited data I can tether unlimited?
A: Yes, no more tether limit. Also confirmed working with T-Mobile plans that do not include any tethering plan at all. Total tether bypass. Some users are reporting that setting IPV4 no longer gives them data. Not sure if this is a specific tower/region issue or something else. This mod still works for many, including myself. Try making an entirely new APN with just the IPV4 stuff in there and using that.
Q: Can I take an OTA if I do this mod?
A: Not unless you restore a nandroid of an unmodded System, flash a stock system.img or flash a stock firmware tot or kdz file.
Q: Can I install this without TWRP?
A: If you want to use this tether mod you need to be rooted. If you are rooted and want to mess with mods then you should have TWRP.
Q: Awesome mod.. I no longer have to use lame 3rd party apps, worry about a tether cap or pay a cable internet bill! How can I donate to you?
A: I accept PayPal! Hit the "Donate to Me" button under my avatar or click HERE. Thank you.

I also want to thank autoprime.
This does in fact work. Even though, my battery is still slowly dieing on the charger LOL...

If it used HotSpot data then you wont need the mod and could just run full stock....
This question is a fail........
It uses your standard data. If you have LTE in your area then LTE data. It uses your data on the phone which for most people is unlimited.

I haven't seen any threads where people were announcing this so I thought I would.
Go here and choose the last build that was released yesterday, December 18th.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Go there and get the latest WiFi Tether. Make sure you are ROOTED and you choose Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE from the Device Profile menu in Settings in WiFi Tether. It works perfectly.
See attached pictures.
thanks for the link going to give it a try, I have a mifi from work but this might be great to have in case I forget it one day and need access.
Just tried it out and it worked perfectly!
Here is the link to the apk I used. I chose the experimental one, the beta did not work properly.
WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-pre110 *** EXPERIMENTAL ***
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-pre110.apk&can=2&q=
ty just downloaded that one instead.
Another confirmation that the experimental build works. Thanks!
"Not Rooted?" I'm rooted...
Hey, I just rooted my Galaxy Nexus, and I just grabbed the wifi tether. I tried the Beta 8 first, then the experimental build, but both give me an error message saying that I'm not rooted. I rebooted my phone and I saw the little unlock thinger at the bottom of my screen.
Is this just a bug? Or is something wrong?
Please post in appropriate section and be.sure that it hasnt already been posted like this has thanks

To be clear just because you unlocked the bootloader does not mean you are rooted. You should have during the process ran a su.zip from the recovery if you didn't you might want to look in the thread for rooting it.

It is in an appropriate section and I made the thread so it would be straight forward and clear. Unlike all of the previous ones. Title says all. If the moderator(s) feel like it is in the wrong place, they move it. We've been trying to keep the users from saying things like this lately because it just starts fights.

However, about a minute after I stopped tethering my phone randomly rebooted while typing a Google + message. Don't know if they are related. I'm unlocked and rooted using Superboot.

Enable Wifi & Native Blue Tooth Tethering on Galaxy S3
*****Disclaimer: This has only been tested on ATT's Version of the Galaxy S 3 if it works on other Galaxys S 3 providers please let us know. But be warned that this may not work on your device if not using an ATT Samsung Galaxy S3.
Special Thaks: I want to thank Clubtech for providing the framework that allows the Tethering in the first place. I only built the script to make it an easier install for everyone. Which was per a request of the community.
Original Post For Clubtech's Enabling Wifi Tethering Tutorial
Requirements:
-Rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 (ATT Version has only been tested)
-Busybox installed on your Phone
- ATT Android STOCK ICS 4.0.4 (To check this go to Settings-->About Device-->Android Version and you'll see version 4.0.4, If you do not have ICS 4.0.4 I do not recommend trying this mod unless you possibly want a bricked phone.)
-Ensure your Build Number IMM76D.I747UCALG1 (To check this goto Settings-->About Device-->Build Number under this section you will see IMM76D.I747UCALG1.)
Steps:
1. Download the Clockwork Mod Install Script Here! (You do not have to register to download the file just click the download button)
2. Copy the script to your Internal SDCard on your Samsung Galaxy S3 Phone (you may have downloaded this file on your phone already just ensure its in the root directory of the Internal SDCard (/mnt/sdcard)
3. Reboot Phone in to Recovery Mode (Remember you will need Clock Work Mod Recovery to Install This)
4. Scroll Down to Install .zip from sdcard and click either home or power button
5. Scroll Down to Install .zip from Internal SDCard and click either the home or power button
6. Scroll Down to the line that starts with Yes blah, blah, blah (This is ensuring that you want to apply this zip. Make sure this is what you truly want to do)
7. Once installation is finished reboot the device
8. Once device is rebooted goto: Setting-->More Settings-->Tethering and Portable Hotspots Now you see that your device has Bluetooth Tethering there as an option and you will now notice if you start the Portable Wifi Hotspot your phone does not tell you to call ATTs 611 to enable this service.
9. Have fun tethering with your Galaxy S3 but remember if you aren't Grandfathered into ATTs Unlimited Data Limit then this means you do have a Data Limit and at the moment the highest they offer I believe is 2GB so any tethering being done on your phone will use your allocated Data Usage in a month and you may incur overage charges at $10.00 for each GB over 2GB. Even if you go 1MB over the 2GB data plan you will be charged the $10.00 so you might as well use the rest of the 1023MB available to you.
If you have any questions on this script please let me know. If you like this and find it usefull give some thumbs up please.
In other words this allows free tethering right? How does this make ATT not notice it?
--Update---
Tested it works as advertised. BTW if you can reply to my Qs.
In a sense yes. This allow you to bypass calling ATT and paying to have the ability to tether. Tethering still uses your allotted Data Usage. So in a way it's free and not free. Well however Clubtech obtained the file to open up the Tethering I do not know. But most likely because removing the old framework-res.apk from the phone and installing the new one is essentially removing ATTs code from the framework-res.apk. They may have a backup somewhere in the system that will allow them to detect tethering this I'm not sure of because I don't have access to this info. But from what I understand is they have to block it immediately because the only way they can tell data is being used on there network by a specific device is through the IMEI number so they can't tell what's behind the device being tethered to because it still shows data is being streamed from the device with IMEI xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I was thinking that the code that was in the old framework-res.apk allowed the phone to contact ATT somehow to see if this specific IMEI can have tethering enabled. That's only a thought though

Not much of a problem since I have 3GB for the month, tethering would be a once or twice a month kinda thing for a very short period. Thanks for answering my Qs!
Which framework?
Which framework did you apply the mod to?
This is very important, since this script can only be run for people running a ROM whose framework is identical to the one you applied the mod to. There are already recovery scripts around for applying this mod (with the cell standby power reporting fix, too) for UCALEM (here, in the thread you mentioned in your OP) and UCALG1 (here, in the mods section).
I have the latest stock Rom. Ucalg I think. Can I use this or do I need to wait.

Thanks for updating the initial post, but there are two "stock AT&T 4.0.4" releases, I believe. I think both UCALEM and UCALG1 are 4.0.4. It might be good specify the Build Number (I747UCALEM or I747UCALG1) instead, just to be sure. I know they updated the framework as part of the LG1 update.

As far as I know, AT&T will still detect wireless tethering and will send you a nasty letter or else force you onto a tethering plan. Has anybody found a way to tether without being detected?

I do have a question concerning busybox. How necessary is that? Should it just be on the device or should its scripts be installed? Or does it even matter?
Edit: got it working. I'm a tidbit weary of altering somethings as I'm still on stock and most root apps I've messed with have their own busybox to go with them.
But I've done a little homework now and got it all squared away.

Tried this on my Sprint S3 and no luck… Got a red "SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED"…
Can u help me understand what this meant and why i got this..?? Anyway to create a zip file to work on the sprint version..?? Willing to PayPal a few $$ to get a solution to rid my error 67 when i try to activate my HotSpot… Reason being is i want to tether over Bluetooth due to its lower power consumption vs WiFi tether which is a battery killer…
Hello all!
No, is not other WiFi Tether don't work on MB1, what I can do?
Confirmed not Working.
If you Set it to WiFi Reload it works but breaks you Wifi until you reboot, but if you set Wifi Reload 2, then you don't broadcast, but you can use WiFi.
Current solution(at least for me) stay on MA6.
Developers with TrevE Mod Built-in. Roms like MOAR, TPR, cant talk about other because I just tested that 2.
You are using TrevE Mod 08/20, latest for TrevE is 08/22.
LATEST for Wifi-Tether for Root Users is based on TrevE Mod.
Please Developers DONT add WiFi Tether on your MB1 Roms, It wont work and its a pain replacing one System Apps with an User App.
Users which want to Test/Update a current/lastest version of WiFi Tether, I recommend to convert Wifi Tether to a User App with TB and them replace it. It WONT be updated/replaced if you have it as a System App.
EDIT: Forget about all that crap. Fixed renaming ConectionManager.apk to .bak.
I froze it first with TB and everytime the phone wake up, Sprint Connection Optimizer failed to start, without any message. Just the typical Wi-Fi tether WTH!
Still devs please update to 08/22
Have a nice day.
Have no clue what you are talking about. Obviously I am using TPR. Turn off wifi (although why would you need tether if there is wifi is beyond me), enable wifi tether (all automatic settings chosen), use it..works fine, stop tethering, turn wifi on, works fine.
Something is broken in your setup.
Friendly Neighborhood Moderator
Just to prove my point this is being sent using the wifi tether. I will turn it off and add to this post from my phone back on wifi.
Edit: this is me on wifi one minute after turning off tether.
My advice is to odin back to pure stock and do not restore anything. Then flash TPR and set your phone up all over.. Again DO NOT Restore anything and use default settings of wifi tether.

What firmware are you using?
Also whats your CPU rev?
Again I love your ROM just it breaks my WiFi but just MB1 based. Current on yours MA6 based.
As you noticed I'm not the first one with Wi-Fi not working on MB1
And daniel, what about if I'm a IT Consultant? That's what I noticed. I use Wi-Fi tether all the time.

On MB1 firmware and baseband
L710.14 Hardware version
There are no framework changes on MB1 from MA6. Look at the update zip.
No one else has reported this and there are over a 1000 downloads of the 3.12 MB1 version of TPR.
Like I demonstrated it works fine. Odin to stock on your phone and start over. You have something corrupted.
When you posted this in the TPR thread, no one agreed or confirmed it with you.
If it is on 2 phones then you have done something similiar to both that has corrupted your system.

Did you read that link? He had the same problem with MA6...I suspect he has bad data from several flashes...some that have included the app in system, then adding the app again in data. I did not see him state he clean flashed.
Changing kernels without running the kernel cleaner will also cause you to have wifi problems.
Let me know what happens when you go into CWM, format system, format data, format cache, flash the ROM, sign in only and try wifi tether.
Install deodexed, flash stock kernel, kernel cleaner. I dont do dirty flashes.
Then run Wi-Fi tether, stop tethering Wifi working.
Make it again, no WiFi.

So you are saying you have to cycle through several times for this to fail?
Just went through 5 times consecutively without issue.
Do you format /system and /data? That is the only way to be sure it is a clean flash. You will need to uncheck your auto-restore options so your wifi settings are not restored and not restore ANY system data. Either way I would have thought a Q&A thread would have made more sense before a thread like this.
It seems this is working fine for 99.99% of everyone so hardly warrants a thread with caps in the title.
Yes. wiped data/system. Still. :/
About Caps please refer to Post 11.
I just only want to a Dev(like you) to try. And it works for you. So I will have a nice time playing with my phone.
You can move/lock/edit the caps. You are the mod.
Thank you for replying my annoying post.

Lol... Ok... So you went into cwm and chose format /system and format /data, flashed the ROM, did not allow it to restore any of your apps or settings and this still happens? Remember you have to turn these auto restore settings off before you start formatting and make sure Google has time to sync them.
I was mainly saying since your phone seems to be in the minority you should have tried a thread in Q&A first and you would have gotten a better feel for the few that may have a similiar problem and lots of suggestions on how to attempt to fix it.

I got it. I was freezing Sprint Connection Optimizer.
When the phones wake up. They try to Run it. Now I just renamed it to .bak and everything is working.

Im using freeza mb1 odex with mb1 base and non of the wifi tethers will work im having the exact issue the original poster is having.
And spiderman
...
Some people travel for business and cant afford wifi. Why even root if you cant.
I cwm recovered back to LJ7 for now.
I fixed it by:
Disabling Sprint Connection Optimizer
Going to /System/Apps with Root Explorer with r/w permissions and renaming ConnectionManager.apk adding a .bak to the end.
Also use TrevE Mod 8/22
Set to Netd-Ndc.
Set encryption as usual.
But the most important is renaming ConnectionManager.apk don't bother freezing it with TB.
Reboot.

I am up and running for making calls, but I still get the annoying activation messages on restart.
I'd really like to at least get 2g data working, I spend most of my time of WIFI anyway.
I have CDMA workshop, my MSL, and I've tried tons of dialer codes... But I'm clearly missing something...
Possibly SLOT 0 related, but I'm not sure how to fix it... Can someone point me in the right direction?
I'm sorry that I'm not helpful, but I also desperately want to know it.
If anyone can help us, that would be very appreciable.
The issues is the LS970 is a sprint exclusive... I have heard of a way to connect to verizon services but it was super basic coverage. Pop on the IRC channel, someone in there could explain it more.
But now that im thinking about it, the rom and the apns may play a part too. since stock roms all have sprint only apns; switching to CM, AOKP or any other aosp with full carrier support might fix that. Also try to find out if they have special apns.
I have 3g working on both mine and my wife's sprint LGOG with page plus. Its possible, but I didn't manually flash it like I usually do with all my other phones. I used a flashing program called wireless workshop. Its only $10/flash. I signed up (just said I had a flashing business), downloaded their program, and about a minute later everything worked (except mms). Even getting up to 2.5 mb/s download speeds. The only thing is that you have to add a min of $50 to get started. I flash a lot of phones so its well worth it. Don't know if this helps, but it saved me a lot of hassle.
Have u changed ya prl to a page plus prl? Also u need to set the apns up for page plus ... Just do them Two things and u should be good to go.... That's all so called flashing does...

You have to modify one of the NV files, on CDMA workshop, connect your phone-->Go to memory tab-->and write nv.
Flash thos file. http://www.mediafire.com/download/u04ckkdytyd8tnw/LG.txt and then your phone will be able to save 3g settings from other carriers. I flashed 3g settings from QPST

Seems odd that someone posted a NV file, if it was only good for one specific MEID?
CDMA WS does not recognize the "media fire" file above as an NV file, and viewing in text shows all the blocks are zeroed out.

No Data After using File
Ok so I have wrote the NV File to the phone & now my customer is not getting any data at all. Says that her network is chameleon which I have never heard of & don't think that is a carrier in the States. Her Talk & Text is working fine still. She had 3G data that would Drop in & Out before I used the NV Items & I didn't make a backup like a idiot beside the point. Does anyone have any IDEA's on what I can do to get the data working again by chance? I have tried several different things none of which have worked. Correct prl & settings. Thank ahead of time for any help
that's not hard to fix

First I am not responsible.... this is just gathered information, and no one had put it together for the Verizon GS8+
Again, GS8+ for below. The steps should work for other versions, but you will need the other versions of the software files.
Alright, I was tired of looking everywhere for everything. Here is what you need to do, to flash the actual U1 firmware, but keep the Verizon Wifi Calling Visual Voicemail, Video calling and other Verizon goodies.
This also allows you to run the U1 firmware version and uninstall any of the bloat that you want (not just disable it). It allows for tethering without checks as well. Best of both worlds if you will. The worst thing about this is the splash screen is still Verizon
Before you proceed. This does wipe the phone, so backup, backup backup.

1. Unzip tool
2. Open SamFirm.exe
3. In model window put : SM-G955U
4. In Region window put : VZW
5. Check Auto
6. Click : Check Updates
7. When update show up check : Check CRC32 and Decrypt Automatically
8. Click : Download.
After you have all this downloaded
BACKUP!
1. Put phone into download mode and connect to Prince's Odin
2. Open PrinceComeys Odin and flash the U1 firmware
3. Start phone, but skip putting in any activation steps that you can
4. Put phone back into download mode and connect to Odin 3.12.5
5. Flash the "user data" from the Verizon firmware in the UMS slot
6. Start up phone again
My phone took about 5 minutes to boot initially from the Verizon splash screen after the last step. Don't panic, I nearly did.
Mine was tested on a Verizon model, but should work for any wanting to use a Verizon compatible unlocked version.

This is different than the other workarounds from a while back. This is new.
The activation is in the settings... Just like the Verizon variant.
Flashed and so far so good. Able to uninstall bloat and tether works on my unlimited Verizon. Not sure about wifi calling as I don't use it but voicemail does not work. Tried several different things and it's a no-go. Also there is no Galaxy app that I've seen. Have some funny quirks in stuff I rarely use. But im happy with everything else.
No vvm no wifi CALLING either for me
Installed no vvm gets error 9009.video calling does work no samsung smart call and samsung backup.
It's odd though. Some new things in setting and the way apps behave is a little different. Cant quite place it.
just install the apks from my thread and follow directions for settings permissions and using rom control to activate wificalling.
