Hello all!
No, is not other WiFi Tether don't work on MB1, what I can do?
Confirmed not Working.
If you Set it to WiFi Reload it works but breaks you Wifi until you reboot, but if you set Wifi Reload 2, then you don't broadcast, but you can use WiFi.
Current solution(at least for me) stay on MA6.
Developers with TrevE Mod Built-in. Roms like MOAR, TPR, cant talk about other because I just tested that 2.
You are using TrevE Mod 08/20, latest for TrevE is 08/22.
LATEST for Wifi-Tether for Root Users is based on TrevE Mod.
Please Developers DONT add WiFi Tether on your MB1 Roms, It wont work and its a pain replacing one System Apps with an User App.
Users which want to Test/Update a current/lastest version of WiFi Tether, I recommend to convert Wifi Tether to a User App with TB and them replace it. It WONT be updated/replaced if you have it as a System App.
EDIT: Forget about all that crap. Fixed renaming ConectionManager.apk to .bak.
I froze it first with TB and everytime the phone wake up, Sprint Connection Optimizer failed to start, without any message. Just the typical Wi-Fi tether WTH!
Still devs please update to 08/22
Have a nice day.
Have no clue what you are talking about. Obviously I am using TPR. Turn off wifi (although why would you need tether if there is wifi is beyond me), enable wifi tether (all automatic settings chosen), use it..works fine, stop tethering, turn wifi on, works fine.
Something is broken in your setup.
Friendly Neighborhood Moderator
Just to prove my point this is being sent using the wifi tether. I will turn it off and add to this post from my phone back on wifi.
Edit: this is me on wifi one minute after turning off tether.
My advice is to odin back to pure stock and do not restore anything. Then flash TPR and set your phone up all over.. Again DO NOT Restore anything and use default settings of wifi tether.
Works perfectly for me. On

Kenny, tried on freeza stock deodexed. No mods. Two 2 phones.
What firmware are you using?
Also whats your CPU rev?
Again I love your ROM just it breaks my WiFi but just MB1 based. Current on yours MA6 based.
As you noticed I'm not the first one with Wi-Fi not working on MB1
And daniel, what about if I'm a IT Consultant? That's what I noticed. I use Wi-Fi tether all the time.

There are no framework changes on MB1 from MA6. Look at the update zip.
No one else has reported this and there are over a 1000 downloads of the 3.12 MB1 version of TPR.
Like I demonstrated it works fine. Odin to stock on your phone and start over. You have something corrupted.
When you posted this in the TPR thread, no one agreed or confirmed it with you.
If it is on 2 phones then you have done something similiar to both that has corrupted your system.

Did you read that link? He had the same problem with MA6...I suspect he has bad data from several flashes...some that have included the app in system, then adding the app again in data. I did not see him state he clean flashed.
Changing kernels without running the kernel cleaner will also cause you to have wifi problems.
Let me know what happens when you go into CWM, format system, format data, format cache, flash the ROM, sign in only and try wifi tether.
Install deodexed, flash stock kernel, kernel cleaner. I dont do dirty flashes.
Then run Wi-Fi tether, stop tethering Wifi working.
Make it again, no WiFi.

So you are saying you have to cycle through several times for this to fail?
Just went through 5 times consecutively without issue.
Do you format /system and /data? That is the only way to be sure it is a clean flash. You will need to uncheck your auto-restore options so your wifi settings are not restored and not restore ANY system data. Either way I would have thought a Q&A thread would have made more sense before a thread like this.
It seems this is working fine for 99.99% of everyone so hardly warrants a thread with caps in the title.
Yes. wiped data/system. Still. :/
About Caps please refer to Post 11.
I just only want to a Dev(like you) to try. And it works for you. So I will have a nice time playing with my phone.
You can move/lock/edit the caps. You are the mod.

Lol... Ok... So you went into cwm and chose format /system and format /data, flashed the ROM, did not allow it to restore any of your apps or settings and this still happens? Remember you have to turn these auto restore settings off before you start formatting and make sure Google has time to sync them.
I was mainly saying since your phone seems to be in the minority you should have tried a thread in Q&A first and you would have gotten a better feel for the few that may have a similiar problem and lots of suggestions on how to attempt to fix it.

Im using freeza mb1 odex with mb1 base and non of the wifi tethers will work im having the exact issue the original poster is having.
And spiderman
...
Some people travel for business and cant afford wifi. Why even root if you cant.
I cwm recovered back to LJ7 for now.
I fixed it by:
Disabling Sprint Connection Optimizer
Going to /System/Apps with Root Explorer with r/w permissions and renaming ConnectionManager.apk adding a .bak to the end.
Also use TrevE Mod 8/22
Set to Netd-Ndc.
Set encryption as usual.
But the most important is renaming ConnectionManager.apk don't bother freezing it with TB.
Reboot.

Is this just the hotspot hack or the nociq+hotspot hack?
Is this the same as the original thread or did you redo the hotspot hack to be minimal? I believe people mentioned the other one had some UI changes with scrolling.

Hotspot is working great but I think I might be having issues with browser scrolling..
I think people were mentioned something about the scrolling with the original deodexed implementation. They mentioned going to the framework.jar in the nociq version to get rid of that problem.

This will fix the browser scroll lag but you'll end up with overscroll effect that im not too fond of. I would love to go back to stock kernel and use this odexed hack if the
framework.jar is updated with the fixed browser scrolling.
I'd like to see just the hotspot change with no other ramifications in odex'd form.
Also the other 1x/3g notification bar change in odex'd form.
Same for me, Hotspot works great but I have the browser lag, and not sure if it matters, but I moved back to my original framework.jar (to see if it made a difference) and the Hotspot still works fine.

I still seem to be getting browser lag (un bearable lag) even after replacing the framework.jar (with the noCIQ version, by reflashing and I have tried manual copy), wiping cache and dalvik cache, and fixing permissions.
Is that normal? If this isn't, how do I fix it? I made a nandroid before I did this, so I can go back freely, but I would really like the ability to use Sprint's hotspot application.

So, how would I go about fixing it, or can I fix it?
Right now, I have three versions of the framework in my phones sd card and I am going to be trying them.
I did try something though, I went back to my nandroid backup, and replaced just the .odex file as I had already flashed the NoCIQ mod and if I left the framework.jar file untouched, I would still experience the browser lag. So is this problem really isolated to the .jar file?

I will would love to have infrastructure vice ad-hoc.
Hm, having tried all three (original in the odex'ed zip, the NoCIQ framework.jar, and the NoCIQ_HSH framework.jar) none of them made a difference. It definitely is only applicable to the .odex file. How is the odex file being edited?

Thanks GH for looking into this again and trying to fix the issue, it had died due to the browser lag.
Yeah no problem. I found out another issue that I was having trouble narrowing down too.
But, I am far from any dev, and I am not experienced in Java (or any programming for that matter), so it still will need to get fixed by someone else.
It would help if I understood what the .odex file was doing, and maybe I could poke around in it.
EDIT:
Also, forgot to mention this. I noticed that the scroll lag in the browser wasn't immediately evident. It would only take affect after the page was fully loaded, or after the checkerbox screen had showed up. This might not be accurate, but I noticed it would take affect after that.
yea this stuff is way over my head also, i was thinking as metalhead stated in his thread about strongsteve odex rom and getting the framework from there and testing or seeing what is the difference.
Hello, new to the epic 4g touch here. So many samsung phones it's confusing, but I think I'm in the right forum. Galaxy s2 on sprint. With latest firmware.
Anyway, don't really want to modify the phone too much, but just need to get wifi tethering working. I would like to use wifi tethering for root users. Prefer infrastructure mode and really don't want to install any drivers for computers. Would like to use it to tether an android tablet mostly.
From what I read, I have to root it. I think I got that part down.
Next, install wifi tether. Which requires rooting and netfilter enabled kernel. That's where I'm at. Do I have to install a new kernel or does the stock one comes with that. A lot of tutorial seem to leave that out. Don't want to lose any functionality or brick the phone. So after rooting will wifi tether for root user work as is or not? Thanks for any help.
I could be wrong but I've been reading about the same thing. I don't think any of the third party apps allow infrastructure mode at this point. I think to get that, we need to root, install a custom recovery like cwm, then flash the sprint hotspot hack.

Use this, im stock rooted as well im not really into rom flashing and things like that,if you are stock rooted and have the latest sprint update, you should download the ek02 odex hotspot and flash it in Your recovery by holding down vol. Up and power,it should be an option there to install zip from sd card or something like that, then select the file I was always told to have file on the root of your sd card meaning the first level so once you download it move it to the root of sd or if you dony have an sd you can use your phone internal storage

Well, need a little more assistance. When you say you apply the hotspot odexed file. I just put the whole zip file into root directory of my sd card right. Then I use the stock recovery to install it by choosing to update from sd card? When I do that, it just shows the little green android with the triangle exclamation on top.
Then I thought maybe I need to unzip it into the root...well that didn't work either. Do I have to use a CWM or the stock recovery tool should have worked. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
edit:
I have some more information, when it fails, it says "signature verification fails"
Then it aborts the install of course.

You should watch the other qbking77 video to install CWM, basically whatever version you have+CWM. Using the same tools you use to root, choose option C. Then pick your build number+CWM...example I pick option E because mine was ek02.
After the cwm is installed, boot it up, it might take a while first time, don't be alarm, let it finish booting. Now you have CWM recovery tool.
Turn your phone off, then boot into cwm by holding vol up and power. When you see the samsung galaxy s2 logo, let go of the buttons and you will be in cwm. Press vol up, then vol down, vol up again so you can use the power button as the choose button. At this point you should do a backup of your phone onto the sd card for safekeeping.
If you want wifi hotspot you should do the sprint hotspot mod, not only will it work, but it'll work in 4g...much faster.
download the "odexed" version, since you are stock and whatever version build you have. Like I said I have ek02 so I downloaded ek02 sprinthotspot odexed version of the hack.
Put this zip file in the root directory of your sd card
Then boot back into cwm, pick to install a zip file from sd card. Choose the file you just downloaded and put on the sdcard
When it finish, reboot and your sprint hotspot will be able to "check" the box.

Depends on what they meant MBps or Mbps (mbps makes it like....). 1.2 MBps would be 4G at a decent 9.6 Mbps but 1.2 Mbps would be 3G like.
Eitherway sustained speed and a speed test are also 2 different stories. Had pretty bad speeds on myne when I tried it out the first time, more dsl than 3G.

I am flabbergasted at my new note 2. I got it a few weeks ago, I set it up how I wanted it and everything was fine. The wifi at home works flawlessly. When I try to connect at work, it will connect for about 30 seconds and then the wifi turns itself off. I'm now on vacation and the wifi here acts exactly like it does at work, connects for about 30 seconds and then turns off. I have looked all over these forums, including forums on the other iterations of the phone to no avail. I can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions? Will flashing the ROM potentially fix the problem?
I've been never flashed a phone before, but it sounds like a nightmare for a newb like me. I wouldn't be able to replace the phone if I turned it into a paperweight. Is it worth the risk? I've been trying to do my research, but it's daunting with everything involved. Any suggestions onI certain posts I should read? I just can't stand the bloatware companies add to devices. I do build my own PCs, but that seems like cake compared to flashing a new ROM. I just don't know where to start... Any suggestions would be more than helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have been reading all morning... I'm still not sure what I need to do exactly. Do I download all of those files to my phone and do everything from here or is part of this process done on the PC? I was reading in a separate part of the forum about having to download Odin (I believe) and using it to flash the ROM? Also, I use AT&T, I'm assuming that's the carrier files I need but I don't see them on the Jedi ROM page. Does this mean Iccan't flash that ROM with my carrier? When it says desired modem, does that mean that's optional or I need to pick one? And do I have to do that at the time of flashing the ROM or can I do that at a later time? What is nandroid and what do I use it for? Next, what is the factory data reset? I've downloaded CWM, do I use that app to wipe the system? How do I actually flash the system? How do I wipe the cache and what is dalvik? What permissions need to be fixed and how do you do that? How do I flash the carrier files, modem and add-ons? Do I need to do that at the time of flashing the ROM or can it be done later?
This is my first attempt at flashing and have no idea what I'm doing, even after days of trying to figure it out. I have a gazillion questions... This forum is amazing and everyone is super helpful, but it would be nice if there were some kind of general flashing guide or maybe a general FAQ. I didn't find the search function of the forums too helpful. It seemed that the results weren't even anything close to what I was looking for. anyway, thanks again for the help and sorry about all the questions.
Can someone pls tell me why my Wifi is not working. I FLASHED the Synergy latest ROM and now I can't connect to wifi..I tried in other spots and it still tries but will not connect...help.. it gives me an "Saved"or "unable to authenticate error"...this happens anywhere that I try to connect to Wifi...and I actually have to turn WIFI off in order to download data from a file....any suggestions???

Usuall the websiye you download the rom from has an md5 or the original post(op) of the thread you got it from has it. It looks like just a bunch of random letters and numbers. Thr way you check the md5 of your file is to go to the playstore and download md5 checker. Also file explorers like root explorer have it. I find it easier though to use the md5 checker app. You open it and it has a box that says load file. You navigate the program to the file( your synergy rom) then you click the select file. It will calculate the md5. Then you just make sure that md5 matches the md5 on the page or thread.

I basically have the same issue for the international version.
This was my first time installing a custom rom, used the 'cm-10.1-20130708-NIGHTLY-n7100.zip ' latest nightly build.
Anyway everything seems to work fine, but WiFi gets stuck on authenticating / obtaining IP address.
I did the MDR5 thing, and when I check it turns red.
I believe I had a similar issue once when I only rooted it. I fixed it by placing the right WiFi file on my phone. But I can't recall the name nor method.

Sorry nothing, not even a tiny hint in my mind. All I remember was I needed a file to fix it
Wait. I forgot something. I got a reply somewhere else telling the following:
'For your case go to the dial number screen and put *#0011# hit the menu then go to WiFi at the bottem. You will notice that the wifi is on eco mode, just get is disabled. There you go'.
I haven't tried it yet since I restored my phone to normal because I needed my WiFi working for apps and messaging.
Tell me if it works!:good:
It didn't work

I'm having the exact same problem, every time I try and flash an AOSP rom. Stock roms like All-Star and Whomp don't give me any issues, but paranoid, CM, anything along those lines at all, they all give me the same issue. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Wanted to comment here again to a POSSIBLE fix. I backed up any internal files I needed to an outside source, then formatted my entire internal storage. Since then, I don't get the Authenticating/Obtaining IP issue as much. I sometimes have to turn the wifi off and back on just once if I restart my phone, but that's about it. Not sure if it'll work for anyone else, but it's helped me.
All,
After attempting to find a solution to the WifiTether_TrevE_Mod not working after 4.3 ( 2.10.605.1 ). I have found an alternate solution to use the native HOTSPOT application and it does not prompt to subscribe to it for those of us who have unlimited data.
I cannot take full credit for finding the fix for this I had to look in the following for the XML edits: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467651&page=7
The update script is by andybones, and i modified it, and the xml.
There are 3 flashables i did put together based on this. DeODEX/ODEX versions and Stock. The first two just re-add the WifiRouter_JB43.apk and odexed file respectively depending on which you use, and also removes TetheringGuard.apk.
The Stock, simply places the origional xml file back and puts the TetheringGuard.apk back as well. That one will work for odex and deodex.
THESE ARE ONLY FOR STOCK ROMS. I CANNOT CONFIRM THESE WILL WORK ON CUSTOM ROMS.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT VERSION, OR YOU WILL GET FORCE CLOSE ON THE DIALER! THE FILES IN THIS OP ARE FOR 4.3 ( 2.10.605.1 ) ONLY RIGHT BELOW THIS THERE IS A LINK TO 4.4.2

Also, I cannot get the hotspot widget to work correctly. IT WILL turn it off, but not on.
Enjoy

Works great, thx! While its a bummer that the widget doesn't work properly at least the EQS tile toggles it on and off with no problem. Thx again!
Just to confirm.
you are using the Verizon Hotspot software that comes on the stock rom?
Awesome, thanks! Works perfectly. I actually didn't flash the zip, instead made the changes manually. The WifiRouter_JB43.apk was already on my phone, verified to be identical. So just had to rename ThetheringGuard.apk (and odex) and manually made the XML edits. As you mentioned, the Hotspot widget doesn't work, but it's easy enough to turn it on from quick settings.
Many thanks.

You don't HAVE to rename tether guard, I tested it with and without.
IF only the widget works, that would be great, but not too much inconvenience with quick settings, i am satisfied.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking about flashing stock rooted but didn't want to give up native hotspot.

No charge on bill
I just got my bill today as the 19th was the last day of my billing cycle, and i used the hotspot mod that day.
I DO NOT HAVE CHARGES on my bill for this just so everyone knows or is worried it might generate a charge.
Great work! I love all the little scripts you're putting out to remove all the annoyances on the VZW HTC One. I was looking for a way to enable tethering so I could pair my Nexus 7 with my HTC One if I ever had the need and came across this thread. I was about to go and flash the zip file but I thought I'd take a quick look at my current setup first. Since I am running @santod040's debloated stock rom I was already rid of the Tethering Guard, but I still had the WifiRouter_JB43.apk so I just pulled the default.xml and made the changes, then pushed it back and fixed the permissions. I decided to do it manually once I realized that the default.xml had a bunch of new settings that had been appended to it since I flashed the rom. Now the stock tethering is working beautifully. I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but here is a diff of the stock XML and the one included in this zip to make it clear which lines need to be changed.

I cant speak for 4.2, however you can always make the changes to the correct XML file as shown a few posts up, and make sure you have the wifi router app installed, and it could work
It's not working on mine for some reason, stock 4.3 Sprint Rom, rooted with philz recovery, build MK3, tried ODEX and DEODEX, same result, when I turn on the sprint hotspot it says I'm not subscribed. Maybe I missed something?

This worked fine for me. As a note, the toggle on the pulldown menu works fine for me (turns on, turns off). I'm not using the widget, but the pulldown is where I prefer it anyway.
Quick question
do I load the zips using CMR Zip installer?
Thanks
I tried updating this mod on the stock 4.4.2 but couldn't get it to work. Hotspot would start up and computer would connect to hotspot but there was no connectivity to internet.
Anyway to get native hotspot working on 4.4.2?
Thanks
