WiFi Tether Works w/root - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I haven't seen any threads where people were announcing this so I thought I would.
Go here and choose the last build that was released yesterday, December 18th.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Go there and get the latest WiFi Tether. Make sure you are ROOTED and you choose Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE from the Device Profile menu in Settings in WiFi Tether. It works perfectly.
See attached pictures.

thanks for the link going to give it a try, I have a mifi from work but this might be great to have in case I forget it one day and need access.

Just tried it out and it worked perfectly!
Here is the link to the apk I used. I chose the experimental one, the beta did not work properly.
WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-pre110 *** EXPERIMENTAL ***
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-pre110.apk&can=2&q=

ty just downloaded that one instead.

Another confirmation that the experimental build works. Thanks!

"Not Rooted?" I'm rooted...
Hey, I just rooted my Galaxy Nexus, and I just grabbed the wifi tether. I tried the Beta 8 first, then the experimental build, but both give me an error message saying that I'm not rooted. I rebooted my phone and I saw the little unlock thinger at the bottom of my screen.
Is this just a bug? Or is something wrong?

Please post in appropriate section and be.sure that it hasnt already been posted like this has thanks

Anybody successfully connecting a tablet and getting it to work? I can't seem to get my ipad2 to connect to it...
using the apk that is in this thread and changed my device to the Nexus LTE... any help would be appreciated.

To be clear just because you unlocked the bootloader does not mean you are rooted. You should have during the process ran a su.zip from the recovery if you didn't you might want to look in the thread for rooting it.

It is in an appropriate section and I made the thread so it would be straight forward and clear. Unlike all of the previous ones. Title says all. If the moderator(s) feel like it is in the wrong place, they move it. We've been trying to keep the users from saying things like this lately because it just starts fights.

Thanks OP, been waiting for this one

np glad to help.

my phone had some random restarts when using this wifi tether. Looking forward to CM9 for easier/better built in tether.

you may want to edit your title it is very misleading. this application is not google's it is just on code.google.com. very different. good find though.

Deleted & reinstalled following your exact steps and it worked that time. A little slow but hey at least it works. Thanks!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Just installed the latest experimental build and it worked. I wasn't seeing the Wi-Fi SSID on my iPod until I switched to channel 6, but after that it worked. However, about a minute after I stopped tethering my phone randomly rebooted while typing a Google + message. Don't know if they are related. I'm unlocked and rooted using Superboot.

[Q] GSM Galaxy nexus Bricked -REWARD

I know i have another thread but its changed. My galaxy nexus is gsm and my brother accidentally flashed verizon stock on it. Now my nexus can only go in download mode and fastboot mode. I have tried flashing stock using odin and fastboot however it goes back to the google logo and just stays till it dies. I also cant access recovery mode because it goes to the google logo. 30 dollars reward thanks
Boot to the bootloader (Fastboot/Download) and give us the information on the bottom. Also give us the link to whatever you're trying to flash. I'll dig up the return-to-stock thread and see if I can't walk you through it. Gotta save that Nexus!
Also it'd be easier if you got on IRC. You can find a lot of us (including me) on irc.freenode.net in the channel #gn so stop on by!
Here's a link if you've never been there: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=gn&uio=d4
Wug's Toolkit???
have you tried Wug's Toolkit???
I've bricked mine for the same reason for flashing a GSM rom alpha state on a LTE Nexus.
All I had to do was hit the restore button. And it was fixed in ten minutes. I was able to save my data thanks to dropbox. Cuz I just so happened to back up my data there a lot by saving my recovery back ups
But your case is different. Use wug's toolkit and ATTEMPT to save your data by using the backup feature. MAYBE u can still recover your apps. Maybe you broke your CWMR and damaged the system.res or something. So just flash stock+Unroot. As long as you can fast boot I think you can fix it like me.
Give it a try if you have not done this yet. And let me know how it out. =p
Hope it works for u just as well as it did for me.

could you gimmie alink for that toolkit
Unbrickable
Also you can't truly brick a Nexus device. ESPECIALLY a GSM variant.
So you can fix this. I'll try to find another way just in case this way fails. but also there is a tool on the right side of the panel do the Wug's Toolkit panel. Never actually used them, but maybe it can make your phone work again without even having to flash stock+Unroot.
But again I'll try to find a another method of how this can be fixed. Hopefully someone has a tool to fix this.

Sorry. XDA won't let me post a link. =/
Since I just registered and all but don't worry I'm experienced with this stuff.
Just type Wug's toolkit v1.3 Galaxy Nexus and it should be on Android Central
. Hope this saves ur $400-$600 google device. =p
Know how u feel on this.
---------- Post added at 05:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:25 AM ----------
This should work because I just read the website and it says that if you flash stock+unroot it should unbrick your device. And maybe an OEM lock is required but your a GSM variant so I dunno since u came out of the factory unlocked.
If you were to fix your Nexus Device u don't have to do your $30 reward.
1. I'm 16. =p
2. Don't have a way of receiving money except by mail, which is a big hassle of nonsense.
3. Just wanted to help since I know how u feel.

Same problem here for the last week. Not only is the Software Update app running and saying "Connecting to DM Server", but it is taking about 24% of the total processing time, ALL the time. Can't kill it with any means, whether the app manager, ROM tools or any other means. Even with the great battery of the Note 2 it makes a big difference.
I'd be shocked if others aren't having the same problem but I'd sure like others ideas, especially you gurus.

Found out the only thing that worked to end the process was to Freeze ATT Software Update with Titanium Backup. That worked but of course I won't get OTA updates while it's frozen.
I'd still like some help understanding what to do in the future with it.

Generally speaking...you can still get an update when rooted...if the stock rom and kernel are used....combined with the stock 3e recovery..
However....
Root may be lost...and a factory reset and reroot may be needed depending on what files get pushed via OTA..
The safe bet would be to freeze the updater...and wait for the devs to tear apart the update and see if anything of value was sent...
We continually run the risk of being locked out of root by the networks as they push out exploit patches...
Imagine getting an OTA while rooted...then lose the ability to reroot....and have a borked up device that can't be fixed at the root level...
Freeze is a great option....
And regarding the perma=updates...
Network glitch is now fixed....g

I don't have any problems on the artmod Rom. I fixed the data by using the apn fix and sideloaded the Sprint data flashed and saved!! Perfectly working phone!! Better than stock!! The only thing that doesn't work is the data icon on the quick settings won't lite up blue. And I can't get to network settings. Do you have a fix for that? Please help. Also I might addI flashed this by using framaroot and freegee!! No computer!!???. You're Rom is so much better than anyone else's for optimus g!! And the g3 UI is by far the prettiest and most functional out of all phones!!

Download "quick shortcut maker and search Network in the app. The second option under phone is Network settings. Choose that and select create shortcut. It will create a shortcut to network settings on your home page. I posted a picture of the app somewhere in the artmod thread as well as the GEE3 port thread.

Does the OTA not work? Go to the OTA app on your phone and find the update, it will let you download it and then you can flash it from recovery.

Downloaded the latest update and no service msg now and also won't read SIM. Had to flash previous version 5.2.1 which has no SIM problems but quite a few bugs. Is there a fix in the works? The first 5.3.1 version worked flawlessly.

What do you mean the first 5.3.1 version? Also, Take the build.prop from the 5.2.1 and replace it in the 5.3.1 The reason you get that is because there are mods in the build.prop to be able to use on the ls970, but when you flashed the "official" update it wrote over the build.prop mods we did.
KwakuIsrael
Can you send me a link with the 5.2.1 build props and a new 5.3.1 zip. I don't know how to flash seperately. Thanks for being so helpful. I don't have the rom but I might be able to make you a flashable zip for the build.prop. Not today though. Maybe tomorrow. But all you really have to do is make a backup (just copy it somewhere else or pull it from /system inside the zip of 5.2.1 or the one from this thread) and then replace the one in the new update with the backup, and set the permissions the same as they were, reboot, and bam.
Here, I attached a 5.3 update (don't have 5.3.1) with the same build.prop with an updated custom OTA. It says 5.3 and is 5.3.
Flash this over the artmod rom.

I can't get back into recovery mode unless I have the right command to type & it's not in any of the you tube videos!! I see the art mod Rom is all the way up to 5.4 now. I know my nephew is dying to get his phone back running again. I also had to factory reset my HTC one because I downloaded an incompatible app and couldn't use my internal storage or music pictures movies etc.. Sense toolbox on unrooted phone. Didn't work to well. So therefore I had to start from scratch again!! I also need the Sprint data apk. That's how I got the data working on the optimus g on art mod 5.2!! Works without messing with the apn settings!! So much easier!! It's hard to find everything all over again. Can you please bail me out once more!! I also want to try the art mod Rom for my HTC one m7 as soon as I can find a safe way to root it!! I meant the Sprint data zip not apk.

I see what you mean now, command should be "adb reboot recovery" But I think you need download mode, which is a combination of buttons, not a command. Try pressing volume up and down, holding power, then releasing when the phone flashes. Or hold volume up and power, then when the menu comes up I think you can select "download mode"
I understand the button push part. I was reffering to the part where it' says the phone should reboot at 67% or 83%. That's why I wanted to know what to type in. So do I type in "adb reboot recovery" then run and if that fails do the button press? I just wanted to get get the teeny bin moving. So far I have had it plugged in to download mode not knowing how to proceed from there.

Hey there! Thanks for getting a Robin. We want to make sure you're on the latest software so that's why you got the OTA to download and install. Now that you are on the latest software, you can download TWRP from the Android Development section, unlock your bootloader, and flash the recovery.

However when I boot my phone on it asks for my password, I enter it, THAN IT BOOTS UP (I see the reserrection boot screen) than it asks for my password again AND IT WONT TAKE THE PASSWORD, I have tried 100 times... Its NOT the same password, what on earth is going on.....

This is REALLY weird.... It boots up and than I get my normal black de-crypt screen.. I than enter my password and it ACCEPTS the password and than boots into reserrection (shows the boot animation) than requires me to enter my password again and IT FLAT OUT WONT ACCEPT THE PASSWORD... WTF

I can't imagine it's far off from what CM was doing. Does anyone know if it's still heavily CAF?

Nice to know. Is the pixel actually a supported device?
Where are these builds posted?
Not sure if they're still CAF based. I'd I.agine so since it's still basically cm. I haven't found any topics on em per se just builds. Invisiblek is where to look. There's builds for the marlin

Didn't realize it was out yet.
Was just about to reflash my DU but will download & try out the Lineage just to see what it looks like.
Consider me your first "thanks" for bringing this to our attention.
Edit. It's booting up right now.

I'm not getting far on the 1/14/2017 build of 14.1.
It boots up.
Gives this error which I've seen before and aren't worried about:
"There's an internal problem with your devices"
Then it quickly picks up and connects to my WiFi.
Then quickly enables my Data.
But then drops me into this screen:
"On your other device, open the Google app".
"1) Say Ok Google, set up my device"
"2) Touch Pixel XL on the list, and follow the on-screen instructions"
And I can't get past this.
I think it wants me to restore stuff from my other phone but I can't figure out how to get past this section.
So I can't get to Settings or desktop or anything else.
Lol well "thanks" sir. No problem.Ya wasn't sure if there usable or not yet . I have the 1/14 build downloaded was gonna pull the trigger to see what happens. Perhaps I try 13 build

Where are these builds located? Lineage isn't doing official builds yet.

I was able to get the 13 build running. i am trying the same on the 14 build to see if itll work on that one as well
Got the 14 build up and running. Seems pretty snappy. Gonna play around a bit to see how it is overall.
Edit:
Seems to be running well. Currently restoring apps. Has cm camera and apps loaded but can get all google apps back including pixel launcher.Pretty well polished as far as i can tell
@CZ Eddie, the "internal problem with your device" is due to an out of date vendor IMG usually. You can reflash the latest vendor.img from the factory IMG to get rid of this message.
Yeah, I knew it was something like that.
But it wanted Q instead of V.
And flashing that didn't resolve my issue where it's stuck at trying to restore from some other device (or whatever that prompt is).
I tried flashing the Q bootloader too and still got stuck.

Did you flash TWRP immediately after flashing the ROM?
I did.
Trying something else now and noticed that I somehow now have CM Recovery.
I stared at it for a minute wondering how Clockwork Recovery got installed on my phone till I realized what it actually was. :silly:
Yea I installed TWRP after ROM. Did flashing u vendor IMG get rid of internal error for you? I tried v and still got error but everything seems to be working well

Hah, yeah skipping WiFi setup got me past that restore from other device thing.
I'm logged in now and checking it out.
There are several custom options hidden throughout the menus. Not all packed into one section like AOSP ROM's.
I can't find an option to remove the brightness slider though, I really like that option and would miss it.

Also curious where these builds are. I tried googling it and nothing came up
Post #4 tells you where to find it.

It wants the "Q" vendor image.
Its really smooth and has built in root...only thing I don't like is lack of pixel home button animation and it don't allow unlimited backup but I'm sure those features will become available in the near future (or I hope they will)
Great job with the ROM invisiblek!
