Charging Troblems - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung Galaxy tab 3 7" SM-T210R. Recently my tablet has been having problems charging. Like when I plug it it it takes forever to charge. Before I could use it and it would also charge. Now when I charge it and use it, it stays at the percentage it was at when it began charging. Sometimes when I unplug it, it'll be lower than before. When I put it on charge over night (6hours) it'll get to 100%. I'm still using the original charger that came with the tablet. Any help would be thanked.

Me too

Exactly have the same problem, I'd like to ask first, are you rooted? What rom are you using? Because that could be the issue, I'm rooted and I'm using nolekat rom. It takes me 10 hrs or more to fully charge and it drains half the time fast. The percentage on the battery jumps higher then goes lower and it decreases while I'm charging and using it and I'm not doing anything heavy. I already tried using the battery calibration app which most people recommend to troubleshoot first, it didn't work for me. I suggest that you try calibrating first and if it doesn't work, reflash your current rom if you're rooted, if you aren't, it could be your charger and I also know my charger isn't faulty. Last thing I'll suggest is try manually removing your battery for 5mins then put it back in. I haven't tried that yet, I need the tools still. Hope this helps and let me know what you've done.

I had a similar problem... Used the Battery Doctor app to figure out that some components were running all the time..
Just reflashed it with same rom and problem is now gone.

thank you very much. installing the battery doctor app does in fact help it charge faster!

thanks for the advice. I recently removed the rom i was running. it helped Thank you very much. I also removed my battery by opening my device with the back end of a knife it you do it gently it really doesnt scratch your device plus if you have a case/skin you can't see the part where you wedge the knife. Thank you !

Did you all get a Refurbished tab? I ask because I was just about to get one.... But not if they all have battery trouble.

calibrate it
Download q battery calibrator from google play let it charge to 100 then calibrate it

how long does it take you to charge your battery?

mine usually takes 3 hours.
the thing is if i touch it and turn the screen on and use it for awhile, i notice that my battery % isnt going up. it just stays to the % where i start using it, even for 30 mins.

I read your thread earlier and let my phone shut down by itself then charge it while it is turned on and most of the time DayDream is also on. It is about 1 hour and 50 minutes to be fully charged. I do not remember it ever exceeded 2 hours unless I am playing a heavy game while charging.
I am running my own AOSP ROM and trinity kernel alpha 7.
A similar thing happened with me when I had my S II. The percentage holds and does not increase, but if I reboot the phone then it shows that it was really charging. For example if it stopped on 45% for some time, then after reboot it may show something like 75% immediately. I think it was a ROM or kernel problem, so try another combination and see if your problem is fixed.
Hope this helps

As I mentioned, my problem was related to ROM and kernel on my S II, so maybe you would like to use another ROM and kernel then check if this problem is fixed

If you do a full wipe (system, factory reset, cache, and dalvik) and install a fresh ROM, does the slow charging and inaccurate percentage exist as well?

Is it a problem with the charger? If it's a third-party charger, maybe it doesn't deliver enough juice. If it's the mfg's charger that came with the phone then maybe it's dying on you.
Doesn't anybody use math? The stock battery (1750mah) will charge in just under 2 hours on a 1A wall charger assuming you leave it alone to charge.

[Q] Battery Issue

So here's my problem:
About few weeks ago, my battery started to fooling with me. When I use it for Facebook, Twitter and normal web surfing, the battery goes down, fast, from 100% to 10% took only about one hour plus. Then I left it aside. Check it again after 30 minutes, the battery went up to 27%. So I think battery was miscalibrated so I tried to calibrate the battery using all the guides I can find on the net for weeks but none worked.
So what should I do? Should I change a new battery?
Did u try calibrate it properly, eg.. wait till its charged fully then wipe them. using an app from playstore is the best way. If u wipe stats when its not charged100% then it will start jumping percentages.

Standard batteries are terrible anyway. I couldn't do without my 3600mah one now.
As wedgess said, get an app for calibration. I use 'battery calibration' (simple enough) which works perfectly for me

Well try to underclock it and make the screen brightness lowest. Try to look at the battery stats too as you may have an app which is using a lot of resources of your phone. If you can live without your phone then switch it off completely, try to find the charger with highest mAh output (the higher the mAh output is the quicker it is charging), connect your turned off phone to the charger, make sure it's charging, leave it for 2 days charging like this and then disconnect it, boot it straight to the recovery, wipe the battery stats from recovery. If this is not going to help then I seriously have no idea what else you can do.

Phone's not overclocked, brightness is always low, I used it for texting my gf for whole day, played word search for a while and my phone left 50%, no data no WiFi nothing, When I turned on WiFi and keep using it, battery drops fast. Reached 4% I left it, went back to 16%, continue using, left 4 % again, left it again went back to 10%, then I used it till 4% again, now left 6%. Using stock charger but with different cable since my stock cable is broken. Is that related? If yes I'm going to get a new charger.

[Q] Can a battery go bad this fast?

Hi all,
My SGS3 suddenly since last night has not been able to recharge, battery critically low. I have tried a few chargers, and rebooted several times.
Can a battery go bad this fast, because looks like it was charging and running fine the day before.
Thanks

Have you tried loading a stock ROM on there just to be sure it's not software causing harm to your battery? Not sure if your provider will warranty your battery if it is indeed your battery.
Good luck!
Hi, thanks for your response
It actually is stock rom, sorry forgot to mention it. It is rooted, but I never replaced the rom, just put in CWM recovery. I just moved from rogers to virgin mobile last night, just changed sim card. But the multiple reboots killed a maybe already weak battery?
Thanks
Heeter
You should download and install better battery stats, it may help you find out if its being kept awake and draining quickly that way

Thanks for your response, necrowakker.
I guess that I forgot to mention as well that the phone was shut off during a recharge, and upon powering up, it still it complaining to plug it into a wall charger.
Like it was never plugged in.
Heeter
When you rooted your phone was the kernel changed? .. I've had experience with some custom kernels not reading the battery correctly when off, and only after switching it on it still States its low til a little while later it actually looks like its charging .. ( like the battery level goes up over time) while being off the charger.
If thats not the case, try charging your phone again, but while its on after you know its definitely discharged and not just a ROM memory issue. If you turn it off to keep from getting calls during the night switch on airplane mode to keep that from happening. And check if your battery does on fact charge correctly. ...
After 3 full charges and discharges your battery still gives you bother. Then you can either look into what process it was when you rooted,
if it did change anything more than just giving you more access, or see about a hardware replacement, if it is under warranty, and you can take the flash counter back down to zero (if it counted up) and unroot it.
Also using unsupported chargers over the recommended charge rate for your phone, could have done it damage but that's a long shot with today's safety measures on phones.
Edit:
Don't forget to install better battery stats too, just for checking and reporting. Stable ROMs should be able to handle over 300 hours up time before needing a reboot. So using airplane mode should not bother your phone too much
Sent from my Pengus77 powered LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for all that info.
The phone has been rooted for at least 6 months now. It has been running very good until this morning. No kernel was changed for the rooting. I just wanted titanium backup to work.
I am still presuming that maybe the battery was weak, and when I was changing out the sim card of the service providers, I did reboot about 15 - 20 times to try to get all the services running, maybe that was enough to kill a battery.
Heeter
I've don't some silly **** with powering and charging and pulling batteries for every reason, I can't see Samsung giving you a bad battery if its worked fine for 6 months, you'd probably know within the first 6 weeks if it was faulty. ...
It may easily be a software memory issue with the battery that's confused it. If you are using cwm as a recovery it may have the erase battery stats option on it, if so give it go,
charge your battery to 100, allow it to drop to zero, or til it shuts down, plug in, power it on allow to boot, and leave to charge to 100,
once that full discharge and recharge is done, your battery has its full stats. If it gives you hassle after this point, think about buying a registered Samsung replacement for your phone.

Phone slow charge?

I bought my S3 on july and no flaw what so ever, I used to play PPSSPP, I would say its a battery draining app cuz I needed the phone at full power to play, I could play while changing and the battery actually charged, but now. Even by using Mango (which doesn't need much resources) and power saving turned on, plugged in and the phone's charge drops instead of rising. Any idea as to why?

[Q] N900T Extremely Slow to Charge- Tips?

Hello,
I bought a gently used N900T a few days ago. The device is awesome and works perfectly, except for one thing. Charging the phone with the Samsung charging cable+ac adapter takes longer than forever. It charges at a rate of approximately 8-9% per hour.
A few notes:
Device on, device off, it doesn't matter. It charges at the same slow rate.
The battery itself, once it charges, holds that charge very well.
The slow charging happened both when I was on the stock rom and on my current Slim Rom.
I have ordered a new charger and a new battery. If the slow charging persists with these new accessories, am I doomed? Is the slow charging a known issue for the Note 3? Besides the new equipment, does anyone have any advice on how to solve this?
Thanks so much!

Well I have to be honest from dead it takes about 2.5hrs to get back to 100. On stock.using the wall charger with 2amps. When he gets his new charger he should be good or a good kernel swap. Either way it should come back to normal

You gonna have to do testing or replace phone. Me I would change kernel just cause it takes 2 seconds. Let it ride a day if no change then a factory refresh. You have checked that no app is killing phone as fast as it charges right?

Edit. I was just on his thread and a few guys having issues with either bad batter. UV/ oc .try a different ROM and kernel. Fresh install meaning Odin back to stock and start all over. Sorry good luck
As weird as this sounds, I tried the charger in a different outlet in my home and it works a lot better. The battery charges quite fast from any level to about 96%, then starts crawling again to 97, 98 and stops at 98. I opened battery calibration, which shows the battery at 96% and 4337mv, which is the same mv level as 100% normally if memory serves me correctly. So I'm thinking the battery is "full", but for some reason won't go to 100% without a fight. Perhaps if I clear my cache+dalvik cache? Any other suggestions?

I could be wrong but I noticed my charging is slower when I stick my charger into a surge protector power bar as opposed to a standard wall outlet.
