[Q] New lcd color problem - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I recently got a new lcd and Digitizer for my Galaxy s3 and now everything that is supposed to be gray has green tint to it. I fixed the problem though with cyanogenmod's screen calibration under display and lights in the settings. I wanted to know what is causing this problem and maybe if someone could find an app to change the screen gamma.

If the colors are not correct while on stock touchwiz, Id say theres something wrong with the display. If so, you should probably consider contacting the seller and ask for a replacement.
If it is damaged already or if its a factory defect, chances are itll get worse over time. And even if it doesn't, itll greatly affect the resale value should you ever decide to sell it.

[Q] Original AMOLED owners - Replacement question

To those who had an AMOLED screen (hardware version 002) and issued a replacement from Verizon:
Did they give you an AMOLED phone?
If so, how recent was this?
Also, did it have any issues?
Was it refurbished, or certified like-new?
I may have to look at getting my Inc replaced, but I sure as hell won't do it if I get an SLCD.
I just got my replace like 8 days ago.. I got a certified like new one... the only problem that I have is that I have no clue how to find out if I have a sLcd or a Amoled.. I know it should have a 002 number under the battery but honestly I dont see that in mine...
hope my info helps...
Note: I just check and I got a Amoled 002...

When I got my replacement last month they gave me another amoled. To be honest though, the colors sucked, white had a yellowish tint. Nothing a little calibration couldn't fix however.
I've had four of them replaced, all for blown speakers. The last two I asked them for an amoled. If you ask, they will send you which ever one you want.

I don't mean to hijack, but how do you calibrate the color of the screen? The last two replacements I got have had a yellow screen and it seems to have gotten better, but I think I just got used to it.
EDIT: to add useful info, I have had 3 replacements since last April, the most recent one being last week and all were amoled screens. My wife had one replaced too and it was also an amoled.
I had mine replaced a few weeks ago, and it's an AMOLED. I haven't had the color tint issues, but my power button is a little sketchy. :/
I also can't sign into Peep on this phone when running Skyraider, but my old phone didn't have problems with it. It doesn't seem like it'd be a hardware problem, but it's the only difference I can think of.
Alright, seems safe to get a refurb now. Thanks guys.
And I assume they're all refurbished units by now instead of certified like-new, whatever the difference would be.

There's not a difference. It's either that or you send yours back to HTC to have them repair/refurbish YOUR phone and wait for whatever their turnover period is to get it back to you. There might not even be any history on the replacement you got at all so stop worrying about whether it's refurbished or not.
Second point, if you originally purchased an AMOLED unit, and you need a replacement you will receive another AMOLED. If you purchased an SLCD version you'll get an SLCD replacement. We have different SKU's for both that are automatically populated in the order system.

Here is the thread I found it in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745248
I can only vouch for ASOP however, I don't use a Sense rom so haven't tested it. Just download and flash calibrated-signed-42-Universal.zip. Then boot up and install Calibrator-5.1-Universal.apk. When you run that, you should be able to change each color calibration. It's pretty amazing, I was thrilled when I finally found it.
Got my replacement today.
Works perfectly. Also, it is AMOLED. Screen isn't "washed out" or anything either.
*edit*
Well, ****. It has ONE dead/permanently blue/cyan pixel in the middle of the bottom half of the screen.

[Q] Return for warranty or not

Hello ... got my Gnex a few days ago ... loved the screen and everything .. but today while reading threads here about Screen issues i tested my screen I saw that my screen has the "Grays going purple" issue and also with a white background when i open the semi-transparent notification bar i (barely) see a white spot it's not white but umm .. it's like a splotch ...
So should i live with this or give for a replacement model i've seen that people who have returned for replacement have ended up with worse problems then what they used to have ...
Hope i got thru... my english isn't that good
Thanks =)
Just ask yourself.
Can you live with it?
That's your answer.
I'm curious as to your screen issues and how you tested? I recently flashed a new ROM and finally played some "color hack presets" and noticed when I set it to the "Default" it goes VERY green. Stock or without touching the color settings I feel everything looks great but thought I'd try some presets which propose to offer better color and thats what I got. Manually dialing the green way down makes it look way better but wondering if there isnt something up with my screen as well
It depends on how bad it bothers you.
Doesn't bother me that much at it only appears when like under 10% brightness
I got a warranty exchange because I thought I broke the power button (worked later) and the screen seems nicer than the first Gnex. Without any changes to gamma value and such, same kernel and ROM, this one is slightly brighter and more accurate with colors. I'm happy with my replacement.

For what it's worth, I agree with the "Can you live with it" replies. However, I will tell you that when I replaced mine for overheating the new one does have a better screen. Well, seems to me it does, and that's all that matters.
I did an in-store swap since I had it less than a week. I was willing to live with the screen since the ROM I use seemed to limit the issue or fix it.
Seems like you're always rolling the dice on replacements. My rule of thumb is if I can live with it or fix on my own I would just keep the one I have.

Bluish tint on my screen

i have seen a bluish tint on my screen :/ i dont have insurance on my phone so i read that there is a way to get rid of it with a custom kernel i want to see if there's people with this problem fixed and how they fixed it?
I wouldn't think a kernel could solve this, it's a hardware related problem, not software. I've never heard of a blue tint per se, most commonly it's a yellow tint, but chances are it's a side effect of having an amoled panel. The technology in itself still is improving so this like this do happen to some phones. I believe it's a good trade off to have, admitted as amoled panels look so nice next to lcd led. If you've had your phone less than a year you can take it in for a replacement as it's under warranty

Lol i just said it's not a software issue, it's a hardware problem. If you've had your phone less than a year than I would take it in and get a replacement if the tint is really that bad

heh. I had a blue tint on my screen... after I dropped it sends broke the led screen...
of course I know me, so I have best buy insurance.
if it hasn't been dropped, unless you got you're phone on launch day you should bee able to take it back.
the problem trying to fix it with software, problems like that will just keep getting worse. take it back before your year does run out.

Screen Replacement - AMOLED to LCD Conversion?

Call me crazy, but I personally prefer LCD over AMOLED. Sure it looks worse, but there's no risk of screen burn-in, plus I'm pretty sure it is easier on the battery. So I was wondering if there was any way I could replace the screen in my i747 to make it an LCD screen instead of AMOLED.
I did a Google search on Galaxy S3 LCD replacements and I found many websites claiming to sell replacement LCD's for the S3, but I'm not sure if they actually mean an LCD screen instead of AMOLED or if LCD is just a generic term used to describe any screen even if it is not actually LCD.
They're using it as a generic term. I seriously doubt this would be possible to do though. Someone would have to manufacture one for the S3. Considering it's not a replacement hardly anyone would look for....well, supply and demand rules there.
But if burn in is what you're worried about, and you're willing to spend the money for a replacement, why not wait to see if it happens and then replace it I'd it's ever necessary?
I don't think it's as big a problem as some people say anyway. I've been using mine for years, and have no trace of any burn in. I think it's usually only a problem if you plan to leave it turned on, on a single screen for hours at a time, like on a display unit. That's just based on my own experience though.

Thanks for the advice. Another big issue I have with this screen is one that many people seem to face--small black 'splotches' on a black screen in the dark. Just annoying to have 6-7 of those scattered about, and apparently almost all screens for this phone (even replacements) have at least some of these. Not sure of how to get rid of these.
I've seen those before, but maybe I'm just lucky...? Never seen it on mine. (Even now, in the dark with Tapatalk using the dark interface, I'm not seeing any).
The ones I have seen weren't all that bad though. They weren't even noticeable when anything but a blank dark screen was displayed. That's just my experience with it though.
Unfortunately, it sounds like that's not the case for you, and I'm sorry to say I don't believe I've ever really seen a solution for it. Maybe it's got something to do with evironmental conditions during manufacture? I wish I had a better answer for you on that, but as far as I'm aware there's not a lot that can be done about it.
I know everyone has their own preferences when it comes to these things though. My own experience with amoled has been quite good, whereas lcd was not quite so. I've had issues with dead/frozen pixels, and even one where it looked like several huge ink splotches. (I was told the pixels "leaked", which is what it looked like, but I'm not 100% sure what it really was!)
Sorry for getting off track, but maybe someone else may have seen something that I haven't that can help....

LCD replacement

Hi
I'm one of the unlucky guys that crashed the digitizer...
I order a full replacement screen (lcd+digitizer) and so didn't put so much effort on trying to take out digitizer without break the lcd.
Installed the replacement part, the difference with original one was huge. The repair part was way more purplish/bluish, more dark, with dark contrasts hardly noticeable.
I returned the item and buy another screen, at double price, in a qualified technical service. This latter was supposed to be original (I asked for that an they confirmed). Once installed, the result were more similar to the previous one. Could be a bit better, but still very noticeable difference.
My question is if somebody knows how can I check if this latter screen is original, if I'm missing any procedure on installation (I did shutdown the phone (Vol+ and power) and connected flex, no more) or need some kind of reset to detect a changed screen manufacturer.
I tried also to read panel_id but no luck.
Any hints?
