[Q] What sould I do? - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

My wife handed me down her HTC M8 (Tmobile) 'cause she jemped to LG G3. The phone currently has 1.57.531.7 and it's flashing new update from HTC or Tmobile for a new update 2.22 something.
I want to root the phone and put custom ROM on it. So my question is should I stay on the old firmware and do all that or should I take the update and then start to play around with the phone. Does the new firmware present any trouble if I try to unblock bootloader, root, S-off and put on new ROM?? I'm no stranger to play around with the phone (My current phone is Samsung S4 which has been flashed with many ROMs) just that I haven't followed HTC M8 scene so has no idea the best way to go about it.
Thank guys

It won't effect anything but as always it's best to do all of that before you update. All though once you're S-OFF you can't do updates from HTC anymore (directly). You can flash them yourself once you're S-OFF though, i prefer doing it this way but either way will work, your choice.

[Q] easy & quick question about root & debrand

hey guys..
I just have a quick question regarding rooting and debranding..
I debranded my German T-Mobile branded HTC Desire back when 2.2 was just out for the Desire, so I could get the update couple of months earlier.
and just last night I rooted my device, without any problems..
now, regarding my question:
my room mate got a new Desire with a T-Mobile brand and froyo..
he wants his phone to get to my state, so can I just root it and install a stock ROM on his phone and the brand will be gone too?
or do I need to unbrand it first..
thanks for any help!
peace
(PS: to avoid you having to ask anything,
after the root, his desire will probably have s-on if I do it the way I rooted my device. can he install ROMs with s-on?)
thanks you guys
UPDATE:
I just successfully rooted his device..
so, will the brand be gone if I install a custom or stock ROM?
or do I still need to debrand? his s ist still on too..
You can flash a stock WWE ROM without rooting.
Just get the ROM, make a goldcard and flash it.
You can, also root before or after flashing the WWE ROM if you want to.
Root and S-OFF are different and are done separately, and of course, you can flash custom roms when s-off.
I Edit also:If you install a custom rom or a stock WWE ROM the branding will be gone for as long as he stays on these roms.
I am not sure what you mean by debranding as it is rather the state that you are not an a branded ROM with a branded device, i.e., it's not something permanent that makes your device unbranded.
thanks for the quick answer..
s-off was a typo tho.
I meant s-on..
can't I just install it through Rom-Manager?
and will the brand be gone after that?
Okay, for the brand part see the edit above.
You can install ROMs with rom manager.
You can install ROMs with S-ON.
thank you so much dude..
I have to admit I'm still learning all this android stuff..
just don't wanna brick my friends device, nahmean?
thanks again..
peace

Manual Update of HTC to Gingerbread

HTC has announced they will be releasing a Gingerbread update to the original Desire. My present Desire is currently rooted and S-OFF'ed, so I know I wont get the OTA notification because my phone doesn't match up. But will I be able to download the OTA package and then do a manual update or will that one stop because my phone doesn't match?
Would an Unroot be enough or would I need to restore the Security to its On position again in order to be able to update either way?. And what about the apps I removed, would I have to readd these or what?.
A rooted ROM will be posted in a day, so you will easily just flash that.
If you really want official GB that badly, unroot, and return to stock - then only is it totally safe to use the official update

Agreed, but that would only be a good idea if you plan to stay unrooted!
If you want to run a custom rom, there is no reason to return to stock!
At this moment I dont have any use or desire for a custom rom. All I actually want is get the new GB update from HTC when it comes out. Just not sure I can do that without a lot of hassle considering my phone is presently rooted, has S-OFF and i removed apps.
Unless all the apps will return when I unroot?. But in essence it wont really mattter as my Desire would be laying in a drawer somewhere at that point anyway . When I get my new phone my Desire is getting retired, much the same way my G1 was retired when I got my Desire.

[Q] HTC One M8 Updating manual update?

Hello, I have a Question about my T-mobile HTC One M8. I recently unlocked the bootloader, gained S-OFF and rooted it along with installing a custom recovery (obviously). I then changed my cid token and converted it to a Google Play Edition. Now I have a few question that are probably gonna sound really stupid to you guys since it will probably be an extremely simple question. When Android 5.0 leaks for the HTC One M8 on T-mobile, if I am manually installing it instead of doing the OTA do I still need to flash back to Stock Recovery? And will I need to Change my cid token and pretty much everything back to normal? Also I have SuperSU Pro with "Survival Mode" enabled so if I do lose root access, 1). Will my Converted HTC go back to stock running Sense 6? And 2). How hard with it be to regain root? I am sorry for the simple questions as I am a total noob to these things and was even surprised I was able to convert my phone in the first place.

Root HTC One M8 with Vodafone branding

Dear friends,
Yesterday I sold my Oneplus One to get a brand new HTC One M8. Thing this is gorgeous, but the only thing I'm missing from the Oneplus One is the software. Which isnt the least important aspect of a Phone imo. So I'm considering rooting my Phone and getting CM11 on it. The only thing is that I want to root it, but it has Vodafone branding on it. Can I just use the normal root methods or isnt that possible for Vodafone branded M8's? If so does anyone know a different method? If no does anyone know a link to the best (and simpliest ) root method for my Htc One m8 . Ive been out for a while from this rooting stuff and id be pretty upset if id screw this **** up. lol
Kind regards.
Normal rooting method will work. Unlock bootloader, flash/boot custom recovery, flash SuperSU or any rooted custom ROM.
Another thing, this thread isn't supposed to be in this section. Questions and troubleshooting go into Q&A section not general section.
I agree with above post
I have the same.Unlocked bootloader through HTC and flashed custom recovery and flashed SU.
PS I have not flashed any modified ROM and it i still S-on

[Q] Recently bought M8 and i need to Unlock/Root it without sunshine

i know its a noob question but i used to be a Nexus user
so i easily can unlock my device and play around with it like changing Roms and kernels...
but recently i bought the M8 and it an interesting device and i like to much but i used to be a CM user long ago and i dont like any other Roms
but when i decided to unlock my m8 i suddenly found a weird stuff like Sunshine and S-Off and S-On and i actually cant get it
and then i realized that i have pay money so i can Unlock my m8 !
is that true ?
i just need to get rid of the senses 6 and install any other Rom i like in XDA
so im here to ask about what exactly i should do now ..
PS :- im now on the latest Firmware 5.0.2
You don't need to s-off. It just takes a few extra steps to do things. But it also allows you to do more with your device. It also helps if you have to recover your device from some issues. It is best to be just get it to be honest.
