Well....
Send it in for repair?
This should be a warranty issue. No software issue so theres nothing we can do here

Will they charge for it, its only 6 months old

Anybody else had this here? As i searched for this and got many users reporting this hairline crack in the touch screen

If you did not cause it by like smashing it against a wall on purpose they will not charge you.
Thats what a warranty is there for.
If you want to make sure, just ask in your shop / email your shop and ask them.

I think some stocks got QC problem, especially some early stocks. This usually happen on all Sony flagship phones, so better not to buy any new model immediately.... lol

I actually work for a phone company in Australia and had someone come in with this issue. TBH physical damage is defined by a cracked screen and no matter how many times you say you didn't do it the outcome will be the same (if only you knew the stories ive heard). Unless Sony publicly admits fault then any repair centre will charge for physical damage. I advised my customer to speak to Sony directly to get a case open and to send the handset directly to Sony repair once they say they will fix it.

That sounds like complete bs from Sony right there. I hope everybody who experiences this will get a proper repair.
Good luck!

I got the same issue in Poland with my Z1C !!!
official answer from sony service:
"Nazwa urządzenia:Sony D5503 /Z1 Compact/ Black
Powód wyceny: Mechaniczne uszkodzenie wyświetlacza, np na skutek zgniecenia, upadku itp. -nie podlega gwarancji!"
***TRANSLATED***
Product Name: Sony D5503 / Z1 Compact / Black
Reason for valuation: Mechanical damage of the display, for example, as a result of being crushed, falling etc. -not covered by the warranty!

Hello @constantine243,
I'm so sorry to hear that your phone got a cracked screen.
This issue have been seen on other Xperia devices too, such as Xperia Z1, Z and Z2. Usually these types of issues are caused by a construction fault, which causes a lot of pressure on the glass which can cause the screen to shatter.
This should however be covered by warranty, but you might have to argue a bit as there is a lot of customers who lie about cracked screens.
I hope this issue gets resolved, and have a good day,
GethPrime

I had a similar issue which was caused by physical damage, but the touch stopped working for me as well. A friend had a similar issue, also with a Z1C.

It's not Sony's fault for a few cracked screens here and there. It's your own carelessness in 99.99% of the times if this were to happen to you.

That's not true and a very uneducated, inflammatory opinion.

It's then user fault when Sony's thermal throttle is not working as it's supposed to causing internal temperature to raise too high?
As most materials expand on high temps especially battery, then it's no wonder they push the glass screen from inside resulting sudden crack.
The phone gets really hot in poor coverage areas and doesn't stop searching until it finds good signal. So this theory imo bases some truth.
It's better for Sony and worse for customer to put all cracked screens on USER FAULT.
Cause if they admit this problem, then they are forced to replace thousands of screens and they really can't tell if it was actually caused by accident or by phones overheating.
There is no solution for this problem because the design is flawed.
Bonus: Or just wear it in your back pocket.

First I would like to point out that I am only talking about the Z1 Compact and not the Z1 or Z2 or any other Sony phone.
If you really think that was the reason for a few cracked screens we would see a LOT more people reporting this , just like it was with the flash bleed . Now that was a big design flaw. An other design flaw is the water proofing : again on this front you see a lot o people complaining...
I have searched for people that reported this problem for the Z1 compact and I could only find 2 people (the OP of this thread and one in the comment section of this article )
P.S. @Iruwen : I fail to see what you added to this conversation

More than your baseless accusations against everybody (ok, against 99,99% of everybody). While there are of course people lying about what happened, this is not a typical issue of the Z1 Compact but of tempered glass in general which is under extreme internal pressure and may crack under rare occasions. And even if additional external pressure was applied, e.g. by sitting on it, it shouldn't crack.
I don't like your aggressive attitude. Sony doesn't need a White Knight here.

Thankz for the response, i am collecting all comments on various forums about users problem, and will make a case file and then visit the sony service center hope they understand, the crack is not visible from the from but at tilting angles
Sent from my D5503 using XDA Free mobile app

At least we agree it's not a Z1 Compact problem...
"And even if additional external pressure was applied, e.g. by sitting on it, it shouldn't crack." -> no warranty would ever cover that crack if you tell the truth about how it happened. I think you really need to re-evaluate your expectations of mobile phones.

Are you here for trolling on my problem, oh pls that happened by itself, i'll post the photos

Hairline crack on G'Nex - Samsung won't fix

My four month old G'Nex has a tiny hairline crack on the screen.
I have attached the same pic I sent Samsung. It makes the screen look very dirty, but that's just because of the high level of illumination - I do actually take very good care of my phones.
I've contacted Samsung at several different levels, but their answer is always the same: I can send it in and pay to get a quote to find out how much they will charge to fix it. It will not be covered by warranty.
I have no idea how this crack started, but I know I take good care of my phone and didn't drop it.
Are they being reasonable: that this type of crack is typically caused by the user? Or do they know they are screwing me?
(This is not in Q/A because my main purpose is just to complain.)
Glass doesn't just crack itself. Its almost certainly user caused. That said you should try to get a cheap bad ESN Gnex or digitizer and repair it yourself.
Your title isn't accurate either. They'll fix it, just not for free like you want.

True. I shouldn't have used that title (and I don't think I'm able to edit the title now).
On the other hand, their service is so bad (in my experience) that this essentially means they won't fix it. If I do send it, they will quote me a highly inflated price, and charge me if I decide to not proceed. I say this based on the experience of friends (and I'm just talking about Canada).
So, I'm finding it annoying that, not only has the device spontaneously broken and they won't fix it under warranty (I still maintain that I didn't do it) but as well they want to make a significant profit from the repair.
For now, I will just keep using it as the crack has no impact on functionality and can't be seen when the screen is on. When the crack becomes a problem I will either get it fixed at a local independent shop (which I've had good experience with) or try your suggestion.
so you crack your screen, then get mad that a crack isn't covered under warranty?
rightttt.....
Hey wasn't the Galaxy Nexus the phone that everyone was complaining would spontaneously crack, but it would be in a pattern that went from upper left to lower right of the phone or something like that?

[Q] Xperia ZL cover is peeling off

Hi
After 3 weeks I got this annoying problem. The external plastic layer that makes the cover mat is peeling off my phone on both sides (front and rear).
I brought it back to the store (Phone House Germany).
For me it's just a production problem, the glue that is detaching.
But the shop pretend it's my fault, and doesn't want to repair it for free, neither change the phone.
The are asking 335,72 EUR to repair it.
When the problem occurred I also had several reboots and sometimes the phone was very.
Both phenomena occurs even when not using the phone. I had reboots at night when sleeping. Or the phone became very hot in my pocket.
My suspicion is that the glue is detaching due to the phone becoming to hot.
My question is, are there other people who also have the problem with the cover that begins to peel off ?
In attachment you can see a photo of the cover.
i didnt find any issue because my XZL is white,
why its your fault man ? i think that is product defect.
can you give more picture, front side.

That's what I'm asking the Phone House, prove me that it's my fault (the have to due to article 5 point 3 from the Directive 1999/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 May 1999 on certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees).
Article 5
3. Unless proved otherwise, any lack of conformity which becomes apparent within six months of delivery of the goods shall be presumed to have existed at the time of delivery unless this presumption is incompatible with the nature of the goods or the nature of the lack of conformity.
But I can not send any more pictures. My phone is already since 18-5-2013 at the phone house (repair center w-support.com GmbH).
I've seen this before and I think phone house has too, that might be why they don't want to repair it. This happens if you get some cleaning agents on the phone. Some window/glass cleaner does this. You either got some on your phone directly, touched your phone with some on your hands or put the phone on a surface that has just been cleaned with some.
A friend had this problem and also send the phone back. Either way, the seller has not to pay for repair.

I'm just a bit confused since he said it's peeling of at the front and the back. My front is made completely out of glass, I don't see what could peel of there?

Don't give up. It's definitely not your fault. Do you have authorized SONY service centers in Germany? Here in India, we have them, although the staff over there are incompetent and pathetic. We go directly to the service centers to get the faults corrected. If they are really hell bent on proving that it's your fault then head to the consumer forums and lodge a case against them. This is unacceptable. Btw, does it look that way only when you view from one particular angle?

wow its the first time i see that on a phone, if u said that it happens when it gets hot, it can be a battery problem as your phone is restarting. dude that really sucks, now that i saw that i wont change my white ZL to the black ZL..... dont give up SONY must replace your phone.
Neither Sony nor phonehouse has to pay when someone gets chemicals on their phone. And those picture sure looks like he did. Maybe he even cleaned his phone with some cleaning agents since it's not only one spot but several. Getting worse when hot could be a reaction of the chemicals in the cleaning agents.
I am sure most phones don't react well to chemicals.
If Sony has to start paying when people don't treat their phone the right way they'll have to stop selling phones at all pretty soon or they'll end up broke.

No I didn't touch any cleaning products at all. Not at home or to clean the phone.
The problem started during my vacation. I was at a hotel where I do not have to clean or work.

No not at all, its really a very tine film that's glued on the plastic cover at the back and front of the phone.
In front I mean the very fine edge around the screen. It's not really visible but I can feel it, that's it became rough.

It's from every angle visible. The black cover is in fact very glossy. It seems covered with a very thin plastic film to rend the cover matte.
It's that film that came lose. Every where that it has been removed the phone is now glossy black. The glossy black plastic looks very cheap

well if its my phone and sony dont want to replace/fix that i would take off all that plastic or buy a black housing. and just replace the back part.
After 4 months I got my phone back...but still not repaired. The way I was treated by The Phone House has made it for me a matter of principe.
They keep saying the damage was my fault.
Following article 5 point 3 of 'Directive 1999/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 May 1999 on certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees ', they need to prove it. During this 4 monts they never did. They send me away with a lettre coming from Sony Xperia Support Germany where they state that they damage was caused by a cleaning product or other chemical.
If they think in German that Belgian are stupid, then they are wrong. I studied industrial informatics and I did had courses in physics and chemistry also. So I know that you need special and expensive equipment en products to conclude such thing. They didn't even look at they extreem heating problem of the phone. That may be an software issue, but the phone should be shut off before it becomes burning hot.
But I got one luck, my professional client is the Belgian Federal Police. I already contacted yesterday some of my relations at the police and monday he will look if the cover can be investigate by a forensic team of the federal judicial police. In that case I will be able to prove Sony and the Phone House that no chemicals where found on the cover. And that they were lying. And in that case I will let them sue for fraud.
That is one weird problem. I have had my phone for over 5 months without any cases or screen protectors and it is scratch free and not peeling.
...did you spill caustic acid all over it?
Joking aside might be a manufacturing defect as from the 3 people I know that have had this phone for a couple months without these issues.

Hi guys,
I have just damaged the screen on my HTC One V, the phone was find and dandy for its day, and I would still be running around with it, if I wasn't concerned that at any point it would implode with a total screen failure. I am currently thinking of getting this phone, and was wondering since you all own it, whether your happy with it, or if you think you should have gotten a different phone?
I;m pretty rough with phones so my main concern is will it stand up to me being a ruffian?
regards to you all

Thanks man, one thing that worries me is the glass front and back, I've seen a lot of iphones with this all smashed, I guess a case is a must. Also I hear a lot of water proof horror stories, but I've read the threads here so am aware. One think I would like to know is how active the development scene is? Are there a lot of developers on board here, and is the community still buzzing? HOV community is gone :'(

this phone has only a few months .. not yet to much developing but it has same specifications like z1 so basicaly almost anything works on z1 compact ..( z1 has active developers)
I don`t have any issue with waterproffing.., i buyed this phone to make pics under water (like pool for exemple) and works great..
and yeah , a good case it`s recomended for this phone, but the aluminium frame it`s very resistant
pewrsonaly i recomended this device for you if you wan a 4.3 inch display.. and it`s not small for you
Sony builds very good quality, durable phones. Aside from the flash bleed I had because of the plastic back (I replaced it with the glass one), it's been a great device thus far. There are some good case options... and those people with shattered I-phones, I would suspect, didn't protect the damn thing.
Mine died of hardware failure, had to be sent for repair 1 month after I bought it.
It's a nice device, but just hope it will never break as Sony's post-sale support is nothing short of appalling. They do not operate the repairs, but rely on a 3rd party in the UK and tracking for mine shows it as pending because the repair centre did not have motherboards in stock so it had to be sourced from abroad. Been in this state for 2 weeks now, and nothing but silence from Sony. Would have appreciated a replacement, like Apple does, but no.. so this is likely the last time I ever buy a Sony.
I've had mine for 3 months and am generally very happy with it. As has been said, it does scratch easily but I did drop it on a tiled floor and a few scratches were the worst of it. It's fast, has an excellent screen, good camera (average in 'Auto' mode) and the waterproofness has been tested successfully !
Battery life was superb but isn't as good with 4.4.2 IMHO - still not bad though. Can get a full day's use and still have 30% left

This was obviously the phone that I really wanted and I totally love it
The perfect "phone" cause I don't consider anything over 4.5" a phone too big for me
You'd better by some screen guard for both front and back, also you could replace the plastic back with a glass one
And waterproof it sure is, as long as it is fresh water and the flaps are properly closed, if used in sea or pool, better wash with clean water later on
Overall a really good phone

The phone performs well but there are some issues, u should be aware of before buying..
Buying sony phones like almost getting lottery.. None knows whatvu will get inside..
1. Some devices are having flash bleed issue
2. There are two dusplay panels, AUO and JDI.. AUO is not as good as JDI
3. Many users are getting touch issues after some days of buying
4. Some members reported water leakage on their device..
But only point 2 and 3 is mostly annoying.. So if these two issues dont bother u, u can buy this phone.. The battery life is really awesome and performance is alsi awesome.. I am happy with this phone.. Just that touch problem making me worried..

See my thread about the touchscreen issues, one of the links in there links to a YouTube video showing the issue:

Particularly annoying if you use swipe to unlock or swype text as sometimes it can take a few attempts for it to work. If I'd have known about this issue, I'd have waited until it was fixed before buying. Other than that it seems like a good phone, although only had it a week.

Are you sure? Talk online is that a firmware update could fix it. Anyway, the place where I got it from is willing to replace it so hopefully I wont have this issue with the next one. Not holding my breath though as I imagine the replacement will be from the same batch since it's from the same place.

Who is confirming about software update? I must say he does not have enough experience in this regard.. And as I told none knows why this problem happens, this problem can happen again after replacing touch screen.. In my previous micromax, the problem started when I used to plug in and after some days it got worse and the problem started after unplugging too.. Btw I got same problem in my z1c just once when it was plugged in charger..

The motherboard on mine gave up 1 month after purchase. Almost 3 weeks since I sent it to repair, and ZERO updates from Sony.
Appalling customer service. Sony never again.

scratch/cracked screen

Anyone else noticed and scratches/cracks on the screen?
The damage seems to have appeared from nowhere and there has not been any drops, impact or contact with sharp objects which leads me to believe that my unit may have a slight defect in the screen that causes easy scratching and cracking? The crack is only about 4mm in length and if you run your finger across the scratch there’s a definite crack as your fingernail runs over it.
I’m almost certain that the screen, especially one that’s Gorilla glass should not show signs of damage as mine has with little to no stress.
I’ve emailed HTC on 26th May and yet to get a response.
None here.
Neither here (4 weeks so far)

Nothing here neither, I never had a problem like that with a HTC phone, you should ask to your family or your dog/cat if they know something about that
None here
My HTC 10 dropped from about 15cm and my display is scratched and broken on bottom side!!!
But gorilla glass 3 shouldn't be resistant???
I come from Samsung note 4 dropped few times and display never scratched neither broken!!!
Is it sure HTC 10 uses gorilla glass??
Question: is it possible HTC fraud us not using gorilla glass? How to check it?

My HTC 10 dropped from about 15cm and my display is scratched and broken on bottom side!!!
But gorilla glass 3 shouldn't be resistant???
I come from Samsung note 4 dropped few times and display never scratched neither broken!!!
Is it sure HTC 10 uses gorilla glass??

Glass is glass, and will always crack. Consider yourself lucky that the note didn't crack. Perhaps the falls were different because if you drop a phone face down, the chances of cracking the screen are greater than dropping the phone on its back or side.

Naked or with a case? Cases absorb some of the shock.
what was HTC thinking, they should of used the new Gorilla Glass 4
How much could cost substitute it? They didn't tell me by phone. Approx I mean.

Whats wrong with gg3? I mean its nearly the same resistant but its a bit thicker(0,7 mm to 0,4mm). And this is a clear advantage. Take a grab on a lg g5. The glass is so thin and flexi that u can easily bend it by touching it, until its hits the lcd.
I have not used a screen protector this time. I have some very faint surface scratches in direct sunlight on the coating but nothing deep or noticeable with daily use

Have you had any luck with contacting HTC? I've noticed the same on my HTC 10. My three year old HTC M7 hasn't got a visible scratch on it's screen but my new HTC 10 has a couple of bad ones and I haven't dropped it or done anything out of the ordinary.
Yes I got the below back:

I then replied with the below and heard nothing back:
Hi Christine,
Many thanks for your email.
I have to be honest and say I’m somewhat disappointed that you cannot
guarantee me a screen repair, I believe this is a service that is offered
to your American customers in addition to a free gift of a USB type C
cable? Why isn’t this something that is mirrored on the UK?
I would imagine that the cost of a replacement screen + fitting would be
around the £80 mark and unfortunately not something I can commit to seeing
as I have just paid £512 for the brand new HTC10.
Is there anything you can do to help? Even as a good will gesture for
being such a committed customer?
So yeah a pretty null shrug off from HTC and I’ve had to resort to using a Spigen screen protector
I just dropped mine yesterday. Unfortunately... Went to grab it off the counter and knock it onto the ceramic tile ????
I have a tempered glass screen protector on my phone and nothing happened. Just some minor scuffs on the top of the phone above that grey plastic liner, and a small gouge on the bottom left where the chamfer and flat edge meet which I buffed and filed down so you can barely notice it. Other than that, my screen didn't take a single knick and it even bounced off of the face. I thought screen was going to be cracked for sure. Phone still looks ALMOST brand new besides the minor scuffs you see on the top portion in the back if the light hits it just right.

Looks to me that they are giving you instructions on how to get it fixed. It is routine practice to warn you that if they find something wrong with it other than you describe that it may not be covered. It should surely be covered but only with Uh Oh protection. One time use. Warranty never guarantees the screen.

I'm in the UK. HTC don't offer any kind of Uh Oh protection as they do for those in the US.
mine fell sideways on an iron rod. the volume-button is slightly bent, but not a scratch, thankfully
nonamecase without extra screen protection

Xperia XA1 Touch on the edge of display not working properly

I am having touch issue here with Xperia XA1. I bought two phones for me and my gf. Touch on the edges of the phone are not working properly on both phones. Keyboard keys like P and L are unresponsive.
I have seen other people complaining on Sony Forum.
Is anyone here having the same issue?
Thanks.

Not here. The full keyboard works without any trouble. If you enable "show taps" in developer options, you can see if your phone is actually detecting your touch.
It could be a faulty digitizer. Happens with even the best flag ships so it's not impossible.

Hi there. I see that you are using an XA1, can I ask you something? Would you be so kind to share its stock wallpapers from its system files please? I know this is not related to your topic but I'm just so desperate to have them...:crying:
I have no Issues with my touch screen. Although when I bought a new cheap screen protector off ebay I am finding sometimes it becomes "unresponsive" (in the corners the screen protector "lifts up" due to the curved glass of the phone and starts collects dust/grime).
Removing the screen protector fixes the issue. Do you have a screen protector?
Another option would be to go into: Settings - About phone - Diagnostics to test the screen. you can tap/ swipe anywhere on the screen and it will give you feedback on if it registered the tap or not. Lets us know!
I also experienced this issue but after switching from Swiftkey keyboard to G-Board and it seems that the issue went away so I doubt it is a hardware issue.
I'm just going to provide an update and say that now even without the screen protector, this phone doesn't really register my touches at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Especially the letter "p", "l", and the backspace key.
Changing keyboards doesn't seem to fix anything. Not sure if I should request for a new phone, or if it could be software related.
EDIT: It seems to have gotten progressively worse. Now its almost impossible to press the "p", "L" and backspace keys and the touch registers maybe 20% of the time. I'm going to ask for a refund, or a replacement.

That's got to be hardware. I reckon your digitizer is faulty. You should be able to return it to the retailer for a replacement. Or get Sony to do it for free.

I have same problem and go to sony care 3 days. Everything work perfectly
I want to give a summary of my story here.
I bought two xperia xa1 about a month ago. Both phones are having touchscreen issue within a week (edges of the screen are not sensitive). I sent to local service center in Singapore.
Now I have got my phones back. They replaced the screen for both phones and they are working fine so far.
Thanks to Sony, my new phones become refurbished phones just after being bought.
I feel like I bought refurbished phones with premium price.
It appears , there are certain batch of devices which have digitizers issues along edges ....
There are similar complaints on amazon regarding the same.

I thought so. Reading through forums on Sony and other websites and you see quite a few people who have this issue.
I got mine replaced on the spot at the store I bought my phone from. So far no issues. But I keep my fingers crossed.
Sony should address this issue. It might be a cheap phone, but still it's their responsibility and should issue a recall, or a replacement for all phones that have this issue.

This is not the first time ,when a batch of devices faced an issue .AFAIK, Xperia Z has a lot with yellow tint. Also one another phone with really fragile speaker.
This might be issue with one particular batch , which might have escaped while testing.
Or issue with display vendor.
Otherwise a solid device.
You don't have to stick with the keyboard the phone came with also why not use the speech to text function and just talk
Yes. I too had the same issue. Did a screen and touch replacement under warranty. Working well
@ross23 @Ticklefish
What screen protector are you guys using ?
There are some reports about screen protectors interfering with touch.
I am not using any screen protection , just a generic rubber case for impact protection.

You can resize the keyboard to "deal" with the issue. But keep in mind that this touch screen issue affect all other apps too. Games and stuff. I personally don't think it is possible to use a phone with a defecting touch screen for long.

I am currently using the Zuslab 3D curved tempered glass screen protector I bought off ebay.
Its good, it does cover the whole screen, including the curved edges of the phone, however, it only has adhesive around the edges of the screen protector, not in the middle. So the middle of the screen does feel a little "hollow" as it an air bubble and not adhesive.

I'm just using a thin plastic one I bought from Amazon for a couple of bucks. It's really just to provide a bit of scratch protection. I'm using a proper case to protect the actual phone.

Maybe the touch issue is a software problem. A few hours ago someone on gsmarena said the problem was resolved with latest software update! (in the XA1 discussion).
