S-Pen Serial Number?? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

So, a, 'friend' appears to have taken my S-Pen as it was in my Note when I left it at his house, but was not in the Note when I picked it up a week later. I recall he mentioned losing his a while a go but I'm now being told that never happened...
Does the Note store the serial number of the S-Pen used with the device? I have no pictures of my one, nor did I ever keep a record of the number etched into the side, so am hoping one of you clever folk could point me in the right direction to get my pen back, as when I say I remember it was definitley with my device he gets all shouty, just like a thieving sh*tbag would...
Any help is much appreciated.

I have 2 Note 10.1 (2014 Editions) . . .Mine and my wifes. When I purchased them I also purchased two extra S-Pens as I thought they could get lost easy. Sorry to say ,all 4 have the same number on them.

Thanks for the info buddy :good:
Thought they might have a standard product code, but was hoping more along the lines of within the system logs if the devices have any coded id that the Note sees/stores anywhere? Or if you remove the button cover to access the pots... I'm going to have to just smash his Note to bits so he can't use my pen, I doubt he bought it anyway, why do people steal **** man, what scummy creatures humans can be

Something Smells Fishy

Does this seem like a simple mistake from when my phone was produced from the factory in China or Korea, where ever our phones where made. Or does it sound like an employee from T Mobile did, for whatever reason.
So I purchased my Note 2 from T Mobile last Friday. While loving the phone for the first couple days. I finnaly pulled my S pen out for the second or third time. And ever since I put it back inin, I noticed a simple tap on the back of phone. The S pen would just fall out. One time it even went in sideways, so turned 90 degrees then it should be. And had a tough time getting out.
When getting the box ready to exchange for new at T mobile. I looked at the s pen on the box, then looked at mine. And its not even the same S pen. I'm guessing the one I had was from the Note 1.
I just found this really odd. And there's no way mine got swapped with one from note 1, cause I don't even no anyone who owns the first note. Actually I've never even seen one. And no one I no has the note 2 either. And I haven't had anyway touch or hold my phone. Especially with all these posts of everyone cracking there screen lol.
So I don't no what to think about this. Just think its really weired. Has this happen to anyone else?

The Note 1's S-pen is round. Unlike the N2's pen which has a 'flat' side to it.
Pics would help a lot here OP. Because right now you sound like a crazy person. Just take a pic of the pen. Upload to imgur or upload it on here.

Actually I did wait days before using the s pen. I didn't buy the note for that. I bought it for the multi screen. Which is why I rooted day 1 and after playing with all the settings I got to the s pen last.
The only reason I new it was the wrong s pen. Is because the logo was on the side but on the box its not.
I already exchanged for a new one. But my new s pen can only be inserted one way. The other one could twist around while 3/4 in

I have no idea whether or not Samsung makes two different models of the s-pen. It seems unlikely that they would, given that the phone has only been out since the last of September/first of October. The only logical reason that I can think of for them to redesign something that they'd already gone to market with would be if there were something functionally wrong with the original device. Nowhere online do I see any indication that they've made such a change. I got my GN2 on October 29th, which would be several weeks before your stated purchase date (according to your initial post, you purchased yours on "last Friday" and that post is dated November 30, so that would put your purchase date on November 23), and my pen design matches those in all of the ads and all of the photos I've been able to locate online (for a few examples, look here). However, with that said, I suppose that it is possible that Samsung has redesigned the s-pen and is now including a different pen with their phones.
As an aside, you might want to begin proofreading your posts for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors before posting. Well written messages lend credence to your posts, whereas poorly written messages can call the veracity of your message into question.
Good luck with your new GN2 and s-pen. It's a great device and I'm enjoying mine more and more as time goes by and as I learn more about it. As a matter of fact, I ran across an article this morning that taught me even more about this great phone. It's a couple of months old, but there is still meat there for the taking. Doubt they changed it. Got a replacement one yesterday and it had the same s pen.

I never said they came out with a new s pen for note II. I just posted when I bought my note II, it came with the first notes s pen. Anyways I exchanged it awhile ago. All is fine now. My s pen fits perfectly in now. And for sure is not the same s pen then I had before.
But thanks for the link will check it out now

Is my T-Mobile Note 2 refurbished? Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

I received my Note 2 a few days ago. I found no screen defects, although my volume button is loose (and was confirmed normal as per other XDA member's feedback). I have a tiny black marker above the earpiece on the bezel (also confirmed by another fellow XDA member), and I know it sounds like I have OCD, but $700 dollars is not little. Also, I should mention, I purchased my device without contract from T-Mobile on their website, and the retail box (pristine clean condition) came in a bubble wrapped bag instead of an actual box I was expecting. Lastly, while un-boxing, I noticed I didn't find any plastic clear tape to remove on the sides of the bezel like I did in the previous Note (International version). My Note 2 only came with the T-Mobile Logo on front and Plastic on the back cover. Today, I tried registering the product on Samsung's website, and came across the message that my phone's Manufacture Date is 11/30/1993.
Is whatever I described above something to be concerned about? Or am I just being too anal. What about the warranty? Is my device refurbished? Should I have purchased at a retail store instead? My phone apparently came from Kentucky (Origin on UPS Scan shows Louisville, Kentucky) with a pre-paid return label to Forth Worth, Texas.
Relax..... That's not a refurbished device. You can check under the battery and it will be listed as a refurb.
I had 3 Note 2's with Sprint before moving here. They all came the same way. There's no tape on the sides of the phone. Only the screen and and back cover are protected by plastic.

I have purchased 2 notes from tmobile and they have both come in a padded mailer vs. an actual box. The inside boxes were sealed though, I had to slice through seals to open the box. I recall on the international version the back plastic actually wraps around a little to cover the sides, I think it was the same with the tmobile version as well. You can't rule it out entirely but it seems unlikely you got a refurb, in my opinion.
Thanks for the replies :good:, what about the power / volume button, little black mark, and most importantly, the manufacture date. Have any of you tried registering your devices yet? Please let me know. Thanks again.

Do you even have to ask? Consider the source, the world we live in for a moment. The fact is some devices are sold "New" even if they technically need be listed as refurb. If you feel so confused, instead of asking internet strangers about your own device, I'd return it online and buy one in store if it makes you feel any better. But at the end of the day it's just a cell phone

I'm not feeling confused; its really just the manufacturer date I am more concerned about. It might be just a cell phone to you, but $700 dollars invested into a machine like this is not little. The world we live in now requires most of us to think twice before we buy. Coming to the Note 2, Every Note 2 sold has minute issues like I stated in my first post. I might be just being OCD, lol. Also, It's a Samsung thing--QC at its finest.

Hey I'm I'm your side I'm just saying more action less debate about your money...if I purchase something online and I have doubts I don't need to consult with strangers on what to do. As far as the device heck yeah return it and buy in store if it tickles your fancy, our see a doctor about your ocd. In regards to the manufacturer date..this is not the first nor last gadget to have a funky date some are more accurate others are internal...not a big deal.....this technology clearly didn't even exist back then, uncommon sense tells you it's just a Samsung filler, just a date they used. Even if the date was this year..who cares lol enjoy your phone

Anyway, too much plastic. I think thats the biggest flop of Samsung; Plastic

:victory: I don't think OP actually thought the device was manu in 93 xD Probably just concerned it doesnt say 2011 or 12 like it should . lol
OP MADE IN CHINA is all you have to see to answer your questions about loose this or that . This isn't the first thread I've seen about loose buttons on this device. . China makes junk , period. We're kinda lucky as many of these devices function flawlessly from the factory. My and it apears few other radios were bad too I had to get a replacement . Fact is lot of these devices are OK. But chinese quality control just isnt on par with even korea or the phillipines.
Thanks AFAIK, everyone's buttons on the Note 2 are loose, even those Made in Korea (as per XDA Note 2 General Forum Members). I've had the Made in Korea Note and Galaxy S2 before and they both sucked in quality control and were Made in Korea. Its not country of manufacture, its Samsung and their best friend, Plastic. Why not just use rubber? Lol...

mine arnt . thats the only thing on this phone that is ok . I guess your right on the samsung. I've predominantly used HTC throughout my smartphone experience. And their build quility is top notch . maybe Ill trade this thing for a one x or something. I mean the device itself is cool but .
Loose buttons , gps not working very well on more than a couple devices , terrible radios the fragililty of the device itself . I mean I cant tell you how many times Id dropped the MT4GS and I never had any problem with it.

I've noticed quality issues on the Note 2, notably the bezel. The bezel is a throwback to the GS2 with the cheap electroplated plastic. Too easy to scratch, and out of the 3 or 4 I have had, most of them suffered from some sort of manufacturing defect. The GS3s bezel is actually constructed much beter, and I was hoping it would be the same. Instead it's identical to the Note 1 or the GS2.
I wonder how Samsung is able to sell something like this of very poor build quality. It's very shocking and insulting.
Very poor build quality? I have to disagree with you on that. They are built different, lots of plastic that's all. As far as I know anyway. My 3rd Galaxy phone model, and 4th total. I've never had an issue with any of them. However, for $700 I'd expect perfection regardless of where it's made. If you aren't happy definitely contact them.

What are you even talking about??
I've gone through a few Note 2s now (long story), but all of them arrived in a very thin bubblewrap bag, and had the back plastic wrap on loose/wrinkled/something. I'm not sure why that happens, but they were all new and unused. One had a power button that didn't work right, the other had a deep nick on the side (ironically, near the power button) - and that was painted so it was definitely a defect, and then another one had a bad speaker.
The 4th still doesn't sound quite as good as I recall the 1st sounding, but everything otherwise is great and fine so I'm sticking with that one.
Also, I think the front edge of the ring that goes around the sides of the phone has paint that chips, possibly? I think those with the white Note 2s could provide more info about that, because I also see tiny black specs there sometimes, but I can't tell if it's dirt/dust or just the paint, or what? It's really hard to tell since the grey ones are painted really dark hehe.
Awesome phones though!
Also noting: All of these were made in China, and one says rev 1.1 on the box and had a slightly clickier home button (made on 12/3 I think?) but all were virtually identical otherwise. They're really nice phones, just.. not HTC or Apple quality hardware-wise I guess.

Bit of a rant...

So, drop my Note 4 and broke the screen. No problem. I upgraded to the Note 7 (preordered). Loved it. Then the first recall. Exchange the phone and mere days later comes the 2nd recall. Love the note so I send in my Note 4 to Samsung to get it repaired since there is no new Note to upgrade to. Did I mention that I love the Note? After 4 days I get notified (by checking the status of the ticket) that all out-of-warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung and they are sending my note 4 back to me unrepaired. They could have told me that before I spent the time to send it in. Now I'm waiting on them to get it back to me so I can find some third party who can fix the screen for me.
I've been faithful to Samsung for many years (TV, tablet, refrigerator, and many phones) but this recent string of events has me wondering where I'll go next. Sadly, there are no other "notes" out there other than Samsung.
Get your act together Samsung!!! You are losing a lot of customers right now.
Thanks for letting me rant...
I love the Note also. Been waiting a long time for one to meet my feature list demand, this one was it, still miss the IR blaster, but I'm holding strong, keeping my N7 until I see something better drop.

I have a Note 4 with a tan banding creeping in on the display. Sure, I can use it, but after using an N7 for almost 2 months.... the Note 4 feels like a commodore 64. I don't want to go to an S7 edge just to get by, but it is the closest available phone to the N7 made. Trying to decide if I should be patient and live with my aging N4 or just get an S7 edge until Samsung comes out with a Note 8 (or whatever they might call it).

That was the real point of my "rant". I have a note 4 with a broken screen. I sent it in to Samsung to get it fixed so I could revert back to using it. They received it and then sent it back to me UNREPAIRED, saying that all out-of warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung as of Sept 30 I believe. I had given them my CC number for the charges and everything. They could have told me this before I sent it in since they knew at that time it was out-of-warranty. Luckily, I found a local store here that does repairs. I'll get it fixed there and use my note 4 until I decide what phone I want next. Nothing on the market interests me right now.
Feel your pain.. Had a note 4, after got note 7. Have note 4 to a friend(he gets my old notes) so I hate to ask for it back. Now I'm stuck down down grading top my note 3.. Such a big difference in technology...feels real backwards.. Did I say last time I used it we were on safe strap, 4.4.2

I sent my s6 active back in for a screen replacement. It broke in a situation it should not have but I did not raise a fuss and approved the $237 repair. Well they charged me the $237 and sent it back to me unrepaired with the same note you got. So not only can my phone not be fixed now I have to try and get the charge reversed. I will never purchase any Samsung product ever again.

Note 3 now has an unlocked bootloader with TWRP available and JasmineROM v6.1 (Android v5.0). I was on a Note 3 before upgrading because the Note 4&5 just didn't impress me. I sold my old Perfect condition Note 3 on eBay which I had unlocked using the method which converts it to a Developer Edition. If I have to return the Note 7 I'm going to just have to activate an old Note 3 with a cracked screen that I put together out of spare parts and performed the same Developer Edition MOD. I'm waiting until the last possible date to return because I don't plan to upgrade again until whatever replaces the Note 7 arrives. Such a shame as this was pretty much perfect with root available almost on day one.

Well they charged me the $237 and sent it back to me unrepaired with the same note you got. So not only can my phone not be fixed now I have to try and get the charge reversed. I will never purchase any Samsung product ever again.

Well, at least they didn't actually charge me. Wonder how long this repair halt is going to take place. I took my Note 4 to a local shop and now even they are saying it will be another month before they can get the screen because they are backordered. The saga continues...

True 'replacement' phone for the Note 7...

And the winner is…
The Note 9. I mean Mate 9.

People should have waited, instead of "rushing in". Patience is a virtue.
This phone looks identical to the Note 7.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
I am raving about this phone specifically because we all know the Note 7 was "the most beautiful phone that ever was". Well now, we have a possible identical "replica", yet some of the specs simply blow away all competition bar none! Insane price tag of $1300 to prove it.
(The website I linked was used to give us an impression of what to expect. By all means check out some of the more established sites, such as gsmarena for more substantial information)
To be revealed on November 3rd.
I want it! Who's with me?
Who are we? Huawei.
(World's 3rd largest Cellphone Manufacturer. Who knew, right?)
It is nice but it is not blue . Plus I have read the premium version will only be available in China.

What's wrong with Lavender?
Somewhere I read (cliche statement right there) there will be a multitude of colors to choose.
China only? Then why give us the 1300 figure in Dollars? Please why China? I am moving to China. You coming MateFreak?
LO. Sure if they waterproof it for me. After 1300 USD I will have to swim back home
Downright stupid not to make the pro version available in Europe, I'll rather wait for the note 8 then
Dudes. Please don't do the silly thing all tech websites do, like "hey! best note 7 replacements" and then show phones WITHOUT STYLUS... Each time I am forced to take the bait and realize that's its yet another big screen phone with the exact same specs as any other flagship phone. A phone without a Stylus can't replace the Note 7.
Yet no one says "no stylus no dice" and rushes out to get the V20, Pixel, iPhone, etc, etc.
This is a Note 7esque Phone, and we are on the Note 7 forum. I mean sure, go for the Note Pro 12.2, even a S7 Edge, but to think otherwise?

I totally understand this. To be honest, I am still trying to figure out why so many people got the Note7, but admit the stylus wasn't important or a thing they used. Why didn't they upgrade to the S7 Edge six months earlier. To me, the point of the Note series was the stylus once the other phones got big screens, too. There is no other phone that makes taking hours of notes easy to do and easy to reference.
I am stuck in a horrible limbo without a true replacement phone. I keep hoping someone is going to post a "I found a replacement" link that has a stylus.

Premium build, Better looking form factor, larger screen, latest tech. etc. I use my stylus, just not as much as people think you're supposed to, that's like saying "why do you have a waterproof phone if you don't go swimming?" waterproof or not, my phone will never see water. If the S8 was an exact clone of the Note 7 minus the s-pen, I'm all over it. But if it comes out looking like another rounded, pebble-shaped, bubbly piece of glass like the S7 I'll once again pass and wait for the Note 8 that i hope has the sharper corners and better overall aesthetics . I work professionally as a graphic designer and freelance digital illustrator, and STILL maybe only pull the stylus out once a week to jot down a grocery list or idea, unless you're someones personal assistant or something like that, I really don't see the s-pen never leaving your hand.
The Note isn't and hasn't ever been just about the s-pen.

The s7 edge has "sharper" edges on the screen the Note 7 are more subtle making it easier to use. The always on display on the Note 7 is MUCH more useful. These are the two biggest and most important differences to me between the Note 7 and s7 edge. I don't use the S-pen all that often but there are some situations where it's unbelievably useful.

I thought so as well but My Wife's didn't. Third party apps still do not show up on her AOD. I have cleared cache and it did not help.

I hadn't noticed, but they don't show up on mine either. Maybe with the next update.

My wife's AOD in her s7 edge is practically useless. Basically just a clock.
My hope is that the note 5 gets the AOD when it gets the Nougat update. I just purchased a note 5 to use till the next note comes out.
I'm considering Pixel XL with Project FI. It's a downgrade for sure, but It's a fastest android phone and from Google. And Project FI is only available on Google phones - basically, unlimited text/talk plus some data, best coverage in the US and possibly the world for only $25 a month.
What do you think?

Its no way as useful even with the update.
It won't show you calendar appointments and tasks like it does on Note 7. Other SPen related features like pinning hand written notes on the AOD screen are amazing useful and convenient. These could never come to the S7 Edge.

Trade in Question Note 9 for Note 10+ - Can I keep S Pen

So with this promotion - Terms say they want the trade in device only. No Accessories, No chargers cables anything. Does this also mean I can keep the Note 9 S Pen as well. Would be nice to have it at my desk and other reasons. I know it acts different, but the pen should still work no?

The S pen is technically part of the phone so not really an accessory . You could try but they might charge you refuse or reduce price of the trade in
p.s I kept my 1 of my Note 7's S pens but that was a bit different scenario

You can always send an email to Samsung and ask. That way your covered in writing.
Wow So I did ask via the chat guy and I'm surprised !! He said I can keep it! edit: ok I didn't realize.. now looking on ebay the spen is so cheap for 8 bucks hahahha.. ok whatever. STill nice to have.

Thank you for waiting!
B Sanjay (Samsung Agent)(08-15-2019 05:41:39 PM)
You don't need to send Spen with note 9.
B Sanjay (Samsung Agent)(08-15-2019 05:42:01 PM)
You only need to send trade-in device.
User (08-15-2019 05:44:13 PM)
wow really? Thank you, just wanted to make sure so to get the credit for 600. So its nice to have extra pen around
B Sanjay (Samsung Agent)(08-15-2019 05:45:25 PM)
Yes, it is a great option to have it.
Pen isnt the same and doesnt fit.
I have like 6 note 7 pens. Then 2 note 8 pens.
Each year the pen is changed a little and wont fit in the new phone.
As for working you it should do the basic stuff.
And as far keeping it. Most places dont care. Its one of those things that can get lost.
I've kept every spen from every trade in. Also samsung considers it an accessory..
Hahahaha! I get conflicting answers. Regular Samsung customer service chat said the S-Pen was part of the phone and required.
The sales support chat said it was NOT necessary to send it in with the phone.
I'll send mine in with my phone. I don't want to take that chance.

Its like $30 for a new note 10+ one. Maybe less for the note 9. Just send it in and not mess with your trade in money.

Which is EXACTLY what I said I was doing.
I asked Samsung and posted responses for two reasons:
1. For the OP's benefit
2. Entertainment
FWIW, I've kept every pen from every Note upgrade after 7...and I plan to keep that going. No issues with my trade in value.

OP is pleased yet little confused. but I'll probably keep it. Device is mint and I have the transcript, so win win.
Maybe it's me, but this sounds a bit weird like asking a dealership if you can keep the spare tire on your trade in!

Reps are notoriously inconsistent. They will never say they dont know even when they dont know. So what's the next best answer? Sure, because if it turns out bad for you they are to be held accountable
Some folks want to be cautious and that's cool but I'm yet to see someone state their returned was rejected because they didnt send it in.

I get that, and that's the exact point I'm making. not worth being declined for a pen.
