How do I select mtp mode for the g3? It seems my phone is stuck on charge mode.

Option will show up in notification bar IF you attached it to a computer which detects a SmartPhone. There is no other way as far as i know.

My GN is already unlocked and i a trying to root it.
But when i choose to root it using the ToolKit it cant find the device.
On the main menu i can get my device to show under "ADB MODE" when USB debugging is enabled. But i can never get it to show under "FASTBOOT MODE"
Any ideas? I thought i had all the correct drivers already because i have rooted the same model phone before on the same laptop.

You can check if the drivers are working correctly by using Device Manager in the Control Panel.

in debugging mode i have a device in device manager called "SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface" but without debugging i have nothing.

That's perfectly fine ADB won't work without debugging enabled.
Sorry, I missed something out of my post: when you're in fastboot, what does your device show up as?

How do i get into fastboot? I restarted while holding the volume-down button down and i got a screen with a big green start button, but pressing it only turns the phone off and on into regular mode?

That's the right one. At the bottom left of that screen, it should say FASTBOOT MODE in red.

Okay, before i was just in Odin mode, but i managed to get into fastboot mode and a new driver installed called "Samsung Galaxy Nexus BootLoader Interface"
i feel like i'm missing something obvious here, but i don't see pc software or charge only in usb connect menu anymore, also the menu doesn't come up when i plug in usb, i just get a prompt if i want to mound sd card or not, it used to have a menu with 5 options now it has 3 and i have to go into settings > storage > menu button > usb connection mode just to see the menu.

K so i've been reading more on this and i see that google took charge only mode out of android.... is this correct? if so did they also take pc software mode out to prevent connection from pc running terminal?
is there any other way to use adb shell from terminal on my pc using usb connection than pc software mode?

I have no problem using adb with whatever default setting the usb connection is set to in CM10. Just make sure you have Developer Options turned on and Android debugging enabled.

verified that on this rom V6, all usb modes are showing up and the menu is popup when i plug in usb, ahhhh, back to normal

Sorry to bring back this thread but I wasn't sure if you figured it out or not?
Anyways, try this:
In CM10.1, I select Mass Storage. Afterward, a screen pops up saying "Press to toggle Mass Storage". When it's not toggled on, that is PC Mode. When toggled on, it's Mass Storage
i figured out that its cyanogenmod that has missing modes when i changed back to a stock based ics they all came back. i have 6 or 7 modes in stock ics and i only had 3 in cm10

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I don't think they actually are missing. I believe they've combined the settings so it's easier to switch between pc and mass storage (one button toggle between the two).

Usb debugging -enabled,drivers on pc installed.(wont show in hardware though)..but i still cant see the tablet on my pc >Any ideas as to what to try next ?
Tab s doesn't support mass storage mode. Only MTP and PTP.

well it used to just pop up like all my other tabs...when i plugged it in,..now im at a loss as to what the heck i did to break that feature

You may just need to reinstall the usb drivers, check the tablet is detected in device manager.
gotta wrest my laptop back from the kid,and see if its just this pc(just rebuilt,and fresh install),or,tablet..drivers have been installed,tablet isnt even showing in devmanager(it charges though)...

I have a problem with my Note 2 (N7100).
When I connect my Note 2 (N7100) to my Laptop, its not connected as a media device, it takes charge only. I can't see the internal storage or memory card as a external device, also not connected in download mode in odin.
Please anyone help me solve the issue.

Are you using a custom ROM....
Anyway after connecting your phone you should see a notification on the bar that says USB for charging, click on that and tap on the second option, USB for media transfer

but nothing shows as a notification in status bar or anywhere else.
And in both roms Stock or custom, problem is same, otherewise I am using custom rom (Eclipse by AC).

OK, go to developer options, there will be an option called, select USB configuration....
Connect your phone to your PC and click the option and select media device

Try using another USB cable on another port on your computer....
Type the problem in the forum of your rom...

3 Different types of cables in 3 different ports including USB 3.0 port
and also tried in another laptop.
same cables and laptops works perfect for other android phones.
btw its not the rom issue

Hi i have Vibe k5 plus ( a6020a40), when i try to connected my phone to pc. I can see my phonr stotage on my pc but charging. Itry to activated usb debugging but it doesnt work.
I cant install twrp because this problem
When connected to pc slide down the notification panel click on usb notification and select share files instead of charging
