Inquiry - LG Optimus G Pro

Hello Guys
I want to ask you a question and i want your opinion for that, i have an At&T Optimus G Pro E980 and it running the stock 4.4.2 firmware so im asking if you advice me to install a custom rom on it instead of that At&T Rom, and FYI i dont use any of the At&T Apps that are pre-installed with the firmware, so what do you think guys?
thanks in advance...

Thats a decision you need to make in your own because your going to get both answers here..... Give one a shot and if you don't like it go back to stock.... I personally run stock most of the time with xposed modules running to get a very themed and customized stock feel.... Good luck

shayneflashindaily Thanks
but can you post the link for a stock rom?

You mean custom ROM? You need to get rooted first if you haven't done so already. Then flash the recovery. Do all that then you can think about custom or modified stock ROM, I.e. With xposed mod you can change the look of your stock ROM. There are two official releases of custom ROM for optimus g pro that I know of vanir and cyanogenmod. The link for cm11 is cyanogenmod.org

Can someone Make a Flash-able STOCK Rom?

I`m looking on the how to or someone to do it for me, Maybe PayPal $10?
But I`m NOT looking for mods or extras I can do that myself.
But looking for a Flashable stock rom from either the Korean Version F240 or the E988 or maybe the UK Version but theres not much on that yet.
I just need a working CWM flashable rom.
I have the E980 and currently running the rom that is made for the F240k but it has mods and such but I want a PURE stock experience. And I dont think its possible to flash a KDZ with baseband to my AT&T E980, I`m afraid to do that.
I just want to be running a stock international rom on my phone.
should be able to tomorrow fingers crossed

Question about rooting!

Hi,
I’m waiting for my LG G Pad 8.3 (still in the mail, should be here by the end of the week!!!) and I have a few questions about it. I plan to root it but I would like to know a few things before doing this as I’m not an expert with “rooting devices”…
1) If I root the device but not install any custom ROM or custom Recovery, will I still receive the automatic OTA update from LG? Of what I understood, if you don’t modify any “system” files, install custom ROM or Recovery, you should be able to get OTA update?
2) If I decide to install a custom ROM/Recovery and then want to go back to the stock ROM, Is it available for download? I checked (quickly) on the forum and I didn't see any link to download it (stock ROM from LG).
Thanks in advance!

1)you probably can not update ota on stock rooted fw. I had asked the same question to the developer of the root method for our devices and this is what he had said:
dalingrin said:
My suggestion, if you want to keep root don't take an OTA.
If you really want to stay with stock LG then you'll want to flash updates via custom recovery. The community will take the updates from LG and make them flashable with TWRP or CWM.

Thanks for your reply! If the update from LG will be available for download so I can flash it, this work with me! I might not keep the stock ROM too... I never had an android device from LG so I'm not sure how it look like... If there is too much bloatware (like Samsung), I won't keep it.

Just to make sure... Stock Kernel = Stock ROM? So the "LG G Pad Sock Kernel.img" is the latest version of the stock ROM from LG?

There is too much bloatware in this tablet just like the Samsung ones. In my opinion the stock rom is worthy if you want maximum stability or you need the lg apps.
No, kernel with rom are different things, google rom vs kernel. The stock kernel is for people who have flashed custom kernels and want to revert back to stock. If you look in the original android development section of these forums you ll see that there are 2 custom kernels and more custom roms available for our tablet atm.

Thanks for the info! I'm not very familiar with this but I'm getting there! I'm reading related post/subject (rooting device) on the xda-developers forum so this help me a lot! I should receive my tablet tomorrow or Thursday so I'll test/inspect it to make sure everything is ok with it and than try to root it.
Did you root yours? Are you using a custom ROM on it?

I had rooted it when dalingrin released the adb root method as I couldn't trust the kingo root method. Adaway and titanium backup are some of the top apps but these apps need root. Also you won't be able to move apps or games to SD without root. I flashed cyanogen mod 11 some days ago and I'm totally satisfied with it. The gpad became faster, with more ram available and with less battery consumption.

I'll use the root method of dalingrin then! I installed CM on my old device and I liked it so I might test it on my G Pad! There is no big issues with it? I know that it still in "Nightlies status so it might not be "stable". I'm looking forward to receive my G Pad!

CM runs stable on G Pad as of now. Very few features are lacking and you can check the CM thread nad if you have half an hour to spare you can go through the change log as well.
For the love of God, do not mistake a rom for a kernel. And remember that a kernel is usually made for a specific ROM. Kernels will improve performance on specific ROM's.. And enable new features under the hood and so on. But if you install a stock kernel onto a CM rom, it would be like filling a car with the wrong fuel and it would most likely get stuck in bootloop until you reflash a compatible kernel. - As stated above there are 2 custom kernels, one is ported for a few of the custom roms.. The other one as far as I know is pretty empty atm. and is aiming at becoming Play Edition-"like", I don't remember for what ROM. On certain mainstream devices you will find many a kernel and usually something that will suit your needs. Perhaps this will happen with the G Pad at some point.
Good luck on your rooting adventures and feel free to ask anything if you hit a wall at some point.
I received my G Pad yesterday! I rooted it by using the “dalingrin” method, installed TWRP and then CM11 (the stock ROM had too much bloatware for me!). Everything worked without any issue so now I can enjoy my new toys! I was hesitating between the Nexus 7 and the G Pad and I’m very happy that I chose the G Pad!
Thanks again for your replies/help guys!

[Q] Confused about how to upgrade to MK4 based ROMs

I've been poking around looking for a Touchwiz based ROM to upgrade to and I'm completely confused and thoroughly bedazzled (comic sans, multiple colors, huge signature graphics, etc).
It seems that MK4 based ROMs are based off of the latest Sprint images, but to upgrade into one of those, you have to revert to a stock less than MK4 ROM, then update to MK4, then upgrade to an MK4 based ROM? Does it matter if you are rooted or not? I got the impression you had to unroot at some point...
What happened to the days of a ROM was self contained? I've seen several ROMS mention that you had to have a certain base ROM already installed to install a different ROM. That sounds needlessly complicated....
I found this ROM I would like to load:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537186
and it seems this is a stock MK4 ROM, but I'm not sure

well to answer your question about if you need to be rooted to flash this rom or any rom. As for your first link that isnt a rom its a MOD. That MOD allow you to add those features to a 4.3 rom and above. And for the second link you can flash that itll be stock. The link I provided is for the rom im currently using which is TW based rom ad has the Note 3 spen features already included. Check it out. Hope I made sense. Let me know if u have any other questions. Ill try and answer them to the best of my knowledge. Good day to you

Ah, I see what happened. I didn't know there was such a thing as a MOD, only ROMs. I came across the ROM you linked to thinking it was a repost of the MOD-that-I-thought-was-a-ROM, so i was wondering what was going on.
I will give that ROM a shot. Thanks for clarifying things!

Is anyone having issues flashing Aroma ROMs on 4.4.2 Rooted?

This is my device at this point:
1. Rooted 4.4.2
2. Stock T-Mobile ROM
3. I can flash SinLess ROM v2.1.2 with no issues after reboot
ANY Aroma ROM I try to flash (for example, DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6), after reboot after installing results in a bootloop at the Samsung screen.
Are NONE of the Aroma ROMs not working on the T-Mobile Note 3?
I would really like to flash the DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6 but can't if I can't get past the Samsung screen on a bootloop.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Darthstalker is a 4.3 base ROM. It won't work on a 4.4 bootloader, which is what you have if you took the OTA or flashed the Odin 4.4 package. It's not Aroma, it's just that most of the Aroma installer ROMs haven't been updated to 4.4 yet. And Samsung made the bootloader incompatible, so once you are on 4.4, you can't boot a 4.3 ROM.
Same with recovery. Make sure you flash 4.4 bootloader versions of TWRP/CWM or it won't boot.
so what IS a 4.4.2 with Aroma and NOT AOSP?

Thank you for the insight, I was seriously under the (wrong) impression that DeathStalker was a 4.4.2 ROM. I really didn't know.
IS there a list of 4.4.2 stock rooted ROMs with Aroma? You wrote "most of the Aroma installers haven't been updated to 4.4 yet." Which have? It's very confusing because honestly, i was looking and didn't see that DeathStalker was a 4.3 ROM. I went back and looked and noticed a bunch of JB stuff in the list of enhancements which gave it away.
Well, if anyone can suggest a good stable 4.4.2 ROM with Aroma and not AOSP, I want to keep the SPEN functionality that is still missing in CM. Although I do LOVE CM. Used it religiously on my S3.
thank you in advance.
I honestly don't know of any that have. Any reason you want an Aroma installer? It's not like you see it after the install is done. Most modded stock ROMs will list the "base" ROM they started from in the OP. Check that, and if it's a 4.4 base, it will likely work fine on your 4.4 bootloader phone. There's going to be a bit of a rough patch for a while as the ROMs get updated and users get updated. You just have to read up on each one to verify before installing. Just do a thread search for "bootloader" or "4.4" and read some of the posts. Chances are, it's been asked and answered in the thread if you look.
I'm just running a rooted stock build without Knox/CIQ, the stock ZIP that teshxx posted in the dev forum. Then just used Titanium Backup to un-install any bloatware I didn't want. Add a few Xposed modules, and it's a quite good ROM.
If you like CM, the SPEN does work. It acts a bit like a mouse. It's the built-in apps that don't work. You can replace the functionality of many of them. But if you really like some of them, that's not a great option. I ran CM/AOSP builds for a while, but decided the stability of a stock ROM was more important to me right now. I'll probably be back on CM after a while. I like the speed boost from the slimmer ROM.
Awesome reply

What a thoughtful and excellent reply. Thank you very much. I'm looking at MyROM Revolution and may download that.
Honestly, I wanted Aroma because it seemed so much more customizable upon installation rather than taking the vision that a dev had for the ROM they created. I may well be wrong and thank you for the update on CM and SPEN, good to know. I just didn't check out the official CM thread as I had heard no SPEN support yet.
I'm running Sinless ROM and while good, it has a certain non-customizable feel to it. Just looking for something lighter, just not as light until everything is stable of CM.
thank you and if anyone has any suggestions for any 4.4.2 ROMs with (or without) Aroma please pass them on.
Is there a list of 4.4.2 ROMs that are compatible?

It's that one. N look at there questions&answers thread has how to flash it basically download wifi nfc blue tooth fix and wootevers kernel. Wipe of course. Flash rom(CSC is default and also choose NO kernel) one done go on and flash wootevers kernel then the wifi fix. Zip should be a go I did it reverse and wifi was bad flashed it again all gravy

Oh also the side effect I had. It deleted everything in my internal so make sure you put the kernel and wifi fix on ext SD so you'll hace it available. You'll eventually get your pictures back and music too but not 3rd downloads from the net or apps like wallpapers of screen shots. Be aware

Saying that all kk roms for this phone suck is really a big insult to the developers here. I understand its your opinion but perhaps if you were a little less aggresive you might get a response for what you're looking for.

I have not seen a true optimus g pro debloated rom. Which is sad, many devs kill themselves trying to get g3 or other custom ROM working well but no one cleans up & optimises the stock rom for there to be one "clean" & stable rom for all users..... Not even sure if there is one on the viet site.

Hmmm.. that would be nice, to have a clean shaven build--one that it available in TOT and/or KDZ. A fresh, stable base would be nifty for sure. I know I get annoyed at having to flash the goshdarn ATT stock roms. They are soo bloated and annoying. I suppose a thing worth doing, is worth doing mydamnself. A project, hooray!
