Introduction
A new Android ROM called The Schism. The Schism is an Android ROM that is a bit different than others. The Schism strives to bridge the gap between Android OS and Google Apps. Along with our ROM being inspired by Google Apps UI, we are also a ROM based off Mahdi-Rom so we have a load of great and useful features like Lockscreen Notifications (AOSPAL), Active Display (CHAOS), Heads UP (CM), SlimPIE (SLIM) and much more!

What this Project will be
Well I have been asked to maintain the l900 for schism. So yall will get an official version and a jlm version (modified and extras added). The official version will be the rom as it comes compiled from source. The jlm version will have added things (apps and tweaks) to make it a little more bloated (just call me samsung!! LOL!!). I will have gapps added into the jlm version and possible the plasma kernel along with synapse. I am also going to add in a preconfigured profile for synapse to aid in battery life for those who dont want to mess with the settings themselves.
Schism JLM Version
The main link for the Schism rom is a base rom as it is compiled from source. While this makes a nice small rom we can add to it sucks sometimes to download all the extra stuff and hope it works together. So I made up this JLM version to give a you a little bloated experience. I have added in the latest PA stock gapps with all the goodies. Added in many extras to hopefully make it a better daily rom with less effort to setup.

Bada$$!
Fixing to flash. Will let you know how things go.
So far so good. Only issue I see so far is for some reason chrome browser won't load any pages but Firefox is working just fine.
Downloading now. It may take a couple of days before I have time to play with it though. Just wanted to say thanks.

Any kernels to use with this?
4g/Wifi/Gps working on this Rom.
Going through all the settings everything there seems to work well for the most part. Got a few FC's but ofcourse JL says he is getting a JLM build put together so will wait for that one before I go deep into the settings. But as it sits right now this is useable as a daily driver imo.
And yes those of you who are wondering... Hotspot does work as well.
Only real issue i have with this rom is while yes the 4g data does work it is slow compared to other Roms i've been on.
For example on this Rom i was getting 3-4Mbps. While on 3.2+ or Stock NE2 4.4.2 by Chaz I normally run between 12-18Mbps in my house and higher outside.

I used the PA Gapps 4.4.4 that you linked. And had no issues with the Keyboard at all. Now the hangouts i couldn't tell ya if there are issues as i never log into hangouts. Can't stand that app lol. I can check it for you later today. As of right now I'm back on the Classic Stock 4.4.2 as I need the faster data speeds atm.
Thanks again for another awesome rom

Well I am testing the JLM version now. It has build.prop tweak, init.d tweaks, plasma 2.53 kernel and synapse app, along with a full gapps (gallery, camera, calendar, chrome) and still has all the stock apps also. Most of the gapps have been moved to /data/app so you can remove what you dont want. I also include a few extra apps in /data/app. I will be uploading and posting a build log shortly.

Crossbones Kernel version: 0.1.0
The Crossbones Kernel (tuna) was derived from the Codename Android kernel, which is based upon (and created by) the Savaged-Zen kernel. We chose to base our kernel off of this particular kernel as mwielgosz has worked closely in the past with the developers of this kernel.
The original kernel base is built off of 4.0.4 kernel source code and is at linux version 3.0.26

First, almost all non-stock features have been coded by myself. Of course there are a few that I didn't write, but this ROM is minimal but unique.
Features include:
* Crossbones Welcome app for showing a changelog with each new release
* CPU Settings built into Settings app
* A custom kernel with tons of governor/scheduler choices
* Quick Settings menu from icon in the notification bar (new with this release, screenshot in OP)
* Extended Power options (I did not write this code)
* The MMS Split code I wrote way back when
* GooManager preinstalled for OTA updates.
I forget what else is in the ROM that's different from stock. Also, some things about the Gnex version are different than the Nexus S version. I've been working on this project for the past 6 months and I've forgotten some of the things that I've changed from stock. I guarantee there are some unique features that will be expanded upon, for example, I'm very excited to get more work done on the Quick Settings
Please do not start requesting features. I have a list of things I need to change/add. Sadly, I don't have the time to work with the ROM all the time, I have a job, two kids, and I'm getting married next Saturday (provided it doesn't rain) :victory:

yes very nice it's very useful to get fast into the settings eg bluetooth for visibility. can't wait for the next update
btw i noticed that the touch recovery is sometimes very laggy on scrolling and it chooses other action. for example i choose "install zip" and it chooses "advance settings"

I would recommend using GooManager to select, order, and flash zips. Just make sure that TWRP is installed. You can install it through GooManager.
I don't develop the recovery itself, so I'm not sure why it would be laggy. I've never had a lag issue using GooManager though, and did write the select, order, and flash code
If its GooManager you're having an issue with, talk to the guys at goo.im about that one.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

1. S Pen works (try out the app Papyrus as a replacement to S Note, Papyrus does utilize the S Pen button as well).
2. Air View works (Go to settings, Language & input, check "Show icon when using stylus".
3. The S Pen button works (Go to settings, Language & input, Stylus gestures, those all use the s pen button).
4. Pop up browser = OverSkreen from the Google Play Store.
5. I use the 4.2 Camera on Touchwiz anyway. There are plenty of good camera apps in the market if you want more features.
6. Multiwindow. There is no alternative, dont ask.

It's based on the CyanogenMod ROM, with sgt7 repo goodies, sbradymobile's Trebuchet and Settings, OpenPDroid Patches to enable the use of the PDroid Manager Privacy App and hopefully humberos' kernel and TWRP Touch Recovery.

Troubleshooting
Mobile, Data, 3G problems? This ROM comes with the JPZ modem. You might need to flash your customary modem back. Just copy your modem.bin to /radio in the Tab.
Wrong MAC? Wrong IMEI? Try restoring files from /sdcard/backup/efs*/* to /efs/. If you don’t have a backup, then start over with FULL Restock, and next time save your backup/efs folders, which are created everytime you install CM10.1.
Market problems? Clear Google Services Framework data and reboot.
Multiple users is NOT supported by the OpenPDroid Patches.
Developer options: can’t find it? It’s hidden! Tap About tablet / Build number 7 times to unlock it.
No touch? That means you got the wrong kernel installed. A couple of builds had problems identifying the exact model. Just flash your kernel through recovery or heimdall / odin.
No boot? Stuck at the SAMSUNG logo? Flash the correct kernel using Download Mode using heimdall!
Deep Sleep not kicking in? Try wiping cLock’s data or freezing / removing it (com.cyanogenmod.lockclock).

Dev-Host Downloads and Ads
Please notice that Dev-Host has some really nasty snicky intrusive Ads in their download pages. DO NOT BE FOOLED! There is only one REAL download LINK, and it DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO WAIT, INSTALL, VISIT OR DO ANYTHING. And it's usually the smallest most discrete button of them all.
Check out the image bellow and be carefull with all the ads around the real download button. They might float around and trick you into clicking them.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience that might have caused. I've never even noticed that was happening because I use a HOSTS mod for blocking those nasty ads and sugggest that everyone do too. Check it out in this site: Blocking unwanted connections

I've got a cdma gtab and the resources to put up a build environment for it. I suck as a developer though, but would love 10.2 on my old tab so I'll take a crack at it if I can bug ppl here for help.

Hi alroger I am running your 4.2.2 version 10.1, without having any problem at all
I don't know if this one has any bugs, Is it possibe to update to this one only by just clearing cache and davlik cache through TWRP and after that to install the Rom , OpenPdroid and Gapps? I have to install all from scratch?
By the way the link for Gapps for 10.2 is not working page opens but is not downloading , I had already downloaded the rom and OpenPdroid
I have a full backup using TWRP to restore if I have any serius probems.
Thanks in advance and for the efford

No, can't keep your configs between major CM versions... you can try, but usually ends up in bad results. I recomend factory reset / wipe and restore your apps and data using something like Titanium Backup, but NOT the system settings.
Yeah, gapps seems to be having temporary problems right now... how about this temp link for you guys in UbuntuOne: gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip

Hi
I just installed the rom and thank you very much it's better than official cm 10.1 for me
But also I found some more issues
- boot logo is still weird on startup
- seLinux does not enable, just freeze when click ok
- unable to reset data with sdcard erase, just rebooting and system is the same. clean data from cwm works ok
regards
Unable to setup restricted account. Crash when press setup icon from main user account

Firstly big thank alroger cdesai humberos koxudaxi et all, this build 20131104 has 487mb only, but on normal usage always available >100mb, hence response reactipon is really great. OC 1.4Ghz also stable, unlike 4.2 only manages 1.2Ghz.
Ok, possible bug report, bluetooth headset doesn't seem to be working with skype and oovoo, how to get logcat again! Thanks.

How's video playback going on this one? That's a biggie for me, and has seen me take a little longer to move to each new version. I stream or store on an sd card, mp4's etc up to 1080p of about 1.5g and on 4.2.2 with mx player they are pretty much perfect.
I can certainly say that you guys have been beyond outstanding in keeping our tab relevant. Every time I think it's time to upgrade, it just works well enough (a bit slower I know, but still works) to keep my money in my pocket. My bank balance thanks you all!

Quoting post #2. Check the image attached there.
Good Morning fellow XDAers.
Here is a Pure AOSP KitKat build pulled from Google source found HERE
I will try to keep this updated with most recent source builds and minor tweaks. This makes for a good base for anyone to build from for a pure AOSP source. Just wanted to get it out there for people to use.
Instructions.
It is highly recommended that you flash using CWM recovery. TWRP may be updated but I haven't used it since KitKat released Again, if you brick your device, it's your fault not mine. This is a Beta so by clicking the download links you are taking full responsibility.
*Backup your current ROM
*Make sure you are using CWM recovery
*Do a complete system wipe
*Flash Rom
*Flash Gapps
*Flash Superuser pack
*Reboot and enjoy
Update 12/18
* enabled app ops - ability to specify which permissions you want to turn on/off for each app
* increased email attachments allowance to 20mb
* any file type transfer thru Bluetooth
* closed some memory leaks
* art tweaks
* animation cut in half for stock launcher
* up to date with Google merges via android-review.googlesource.com

* Added OTG Support
* Added merges from android source that wasn't in 4.4.2
* More location tweaks
* Added Override allowance in source
* Changed to toolchain 4.8
* Build.prop tweaks
* You can dirty flash over previous versions, just make sure to flash gapps, then SU to retain root.

Update 11/14 (Pure AOSP Manta 4.4 r1.1)
Download ROM from HERE
Needs testing but youtube works through the browser fine. Please make sure you have a fresh wipe, then flash rom, gapps, su, reboot. Also, you may experience gapps fc if you enable ART. Since it is still ART is still experimental, I would hold off of that for now.
My keyboard doesnt pop up any longer using the new googlehome.apk. it took a little bit to settle down but if you have the issue either deal with the glitch or delete the apk from /system/app
Alpha upload 11/11

Download 4.4 Gapps from HERE 4.4.2 Gapps from HERE
Download SU from HERE
Thanks to a good buddy for motivating me to even get back in to compiling and messing with source. It's been awhile. Could the retirement be over? not likely. But you never know. Once Google releases the updated props I will update the OP.
Enjoy!
Don't be cheap. If you download hit the thanks button. It's free!
Just in case for apps or mods

Yeah, transparency is done, and some other low level tweaks. Over all it's very good. We really need the props released to finish the build correctly.

Cool...I don't think SlimKat or CM11 builds had the transparency enabled(may have changed since I last tried them) so this would be good way for people to check that out since the word is it won't be enabled on the Nexus 10 when Google releases.

edit.. it wasn't done. But it's being uploaded right now with it done. Also, swapped out to have the stock native wallpaper_default.jpg. Should be done in less then 10 minutes and will update the op after.
Hoping to have fixed the USB OTG problem too.

Thanks for your work! Sounds like the official 4.4 is rolling out already. Looking forward to the final product!
It would be nice to get the binaries so we can have a proper AOSP build.
I will be working on this tomorrow afternoon. Got the ota updated and system pulled. Now that we have full props we can polish off this aosp. You'd be surprised how similar this really was. Hope the props fix the video glitches.

4.4 binaries have been posted by google. I should have a release sunday. Couple busy days ahead. Have the reboot to recovery working but once I added a system pull binaries it wouldnt boot. So need to dig in to see if we need a new kernel. Either way good days ahead.
edit: Ok, factory images have been released for us. But, there is also a new build tag for the manta. Will be release 4.4 r1.1. It contains a different kernel as suspected. SInce this is the case, I decided to just start fresh with a new sync.

Woohoo, we have a full booted pure aosp 4.4 r1.1
Will post link in op..give me a few
Edit..Youtube app works great. Now the fun begins. I want to keep this as close to pure as possible. The 4-1 reboot menu and OTG is a must. but then just transitions and stuff like that. Have fun with the rom gang.

Gotchya, I'll give it a shot once Mediafire starts working. It seems to be down for maintenance. If I may ask, how does the performance compare to 4.3? I ask because I'm hearing conflicting reports of being fast and the same for some.
EDIT: It won't work on TWRP?

I think with ART vs dalvik there seems to be a boost. It runs smooth as silk. Also, I have Google home installed and it settled down now where the keyboard stops popping up when you hit the home button.
Only think I see not working so far is the tap n pay in settings. Says services not installed.
Even the print seems good once you install an HP print app. Synced right up to my printer. Its work a full wipe then flash ROM, gapps, and then su. Make sure you back up. But I wanted a fresh install for KitKat anyway.
Edit... I don't think twrp updated the recovery yet for KitKat. Use a cwm 6.0.4 version and its golden
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
I just installed this about 30 minutes ago and so far its running great. I am using ART instead of Dalvik and it runs really well and smooth. There was only a small sluggishness to it for me when I would go left to Google Now, but after using it for a little while it seems to have gotten better.
Youtube worked awesome and so has everything else, Gmail, Chrome, Google Plus, etc. The transparency looks amazing on this tablet, great job!! As of right now this rom's a keeper for me.
Edit* I also installed this with the newest CWM. I tried using TWRP yesterday on a few other 4.4 roms and it would fail each time.

Sooo.... what is RRO Layers? RRO Layers or Layers for short is a theme engine that is similar to CM12 Theme but better. Cm12 theme enging is limited to just the system. On layers, everything can be themed including dialer, youtube, gmail etc. It is all a work in progress. Also layers is more secure (or so I read). More info, along with how to set it up can be found in the link below;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/official-layers-bitsyko-apps-rro-t3012172
Below is links to some layers

Instructions: go to the above website and follow instructions to down the app. Once installed, download one of the theme zips. Extract the theme zip and move those files to the other directory. Go into the layers app, then go to the other overlays folder. long press the desired apks (make sure they are highlighted), then press the 2 cards button. It iwill ask you to reboot, click on it, and when it reboots, your theme will be active..
If you find any more themes, please post the link.
Good luck and Happy Theming!
