One the things I used to do with phones with a physical SD card was to mount the SD card while I was in recovery to transfer files. This kind of helped not to use adb/fastboot or boot normally and do it as a mass storage. It saved time. I've noticed that this is not possible using CWR. Is that everyone else's experience also? Is there a workaround?
Hey everyone. Got an annoying problem.
So I just tried to install a ROM, downloaded the file onto my SD card. Went into recovery. I didn't see my external SD card under Install from ZIP
Usually I see install from SD card and install from external SD card.
I went into mounts to try to see if I could mount it. External_SD was able to be mounted but when I tried to mount SD card it wouldn't mount.
I also had a weird problem in the ROM itself. I couldn't see my external_sd card folder no more. When I go into a TW based ROM and select My Files from the app drawer, it shows the sd card and the ext_sdcard. But when I go into Root explorer, there used to be a folder in the root directory for ext_sdcard. Its not there anymore. I went into mnt/ and saw it there.
Did something happen to my recovery? I flashed CWM to the latest version and confirmed MD5.
Any help would be appreciated. I rather flash and save my ROM filed in my SD card and not internal memory.
Newest CWM Doesnt access the ext sd card. he said on his twitter he plans to fix it.

correct, for now all flashing to be done through internal memory only.

TeamEPIC's recovery does access both. I've been using it. Trying another one as well just to see.
Thanks everyone. Thought I was going crazy.
TWRP for the win!
Do you know if your SD card is still good (or going bad)? It's a reasonably obvious question, but I had 2 SanDisk 32 GB cards go bad on me so I know the frustration. The /mnt/extSdCard in Root Explorer is a little misleading, I can create empty files in there without actually having a card in the slot. Something I discovered when I was troubleshooting my bad cards. Just a thought.
Hi,
Just changed my phone because the other one was dead. I have a 16 gig external sd card and if I remember correctly on my other phone I had a folder externalsd or something in the root. Now the only place I see my external sd card is under /mnt. If I use recovery it does not see the external sd card. Am I missing a link or something?
Thanks,

Try updating your cwm from clockworkmod. com. The newest version should recognize your external sd card. Also, it's normal to show up under mnt.

I took this tablet from a friend and it was soft bricked..i flashed the stock rom and i saw that in internal storage there is a file SD card and it saves everything there like it is the external and the sd is empty. So it's impossible to transfer an app to SD because it is already there for the tablet. In storage settings i can see the SD normaly and its empty.I m confused anyone knows something?

If the file is stored on the external SD Card, it can't be found by twrp because sdcards couldn't mount on the z play.
No all is on my internal storage but i have external sdcard like internal storage or shared storage
Make sure you're not using the Chinese version that was released.

If you are using as shared storage your phone will have defaulted the file to the SD card in shared storage most goes to the SD card I had the same problem after getting SD back to swappable all is good
