Hey everyone. Got an annoying problem.
So I just tried to install a ROM, downloaded the file onto my SD card. Went into recovery. I didn't see my external SD card under Install from ZIP
Usually I see install from SD card and install from external SD card.
I went into mounts to try to see if I could mount it. External_SD was able to be mounted but when I tried to mount SD card it wouldn't mount.
I also had a weird problem in the ROM itself. I couldn't see my external_sd card folder no more. When I go into a TW based ROM and select My Files from the app drawer, it shows the sd card and the ext_sdcard. But when I go into Root explorer, there used to be a folder in the root directory for ext_sdcard. Its not there anymore. I went into mnt/ and saw it there.
Did something happen to my recovery? I flashed CWM to the latest version and confirmed MD5.
Any help would be appreciated. I rather flash and save my ROM filed in my SD card and not internal memory.
Newest CWM Doesnt access the ext sd card. he said on his twitter he plans to fix it.

correct, for now all flashing to be done through internal memory only.
this message brought to you by my GalaxyS3 running Phantom's Blazer
TeamEPIC's recovery does access both. I've been using it. Trying another one as well just to see.
Thanks everyone. Thought I was going crazy.
TWRP for the win!
Do you know if your SD card is still good (or going bad)? It's a reasonably obvious question, but I had 2 SanDisk 32 GB cards go bad on me so I know the frustration. The /mnt/extSdCard in Root Explorer is a little misleading, I can create empty files in there without actually having a card in the slot. Something I discovered when I was troubleshooting my bad cards. Just a thought.

So I lost my 16gb SD card and ended up upgrading to a 32gb SDHC class 4 sd card.
I have all my flashable files copied over to this card (Calks Format All, xxx-ROM, etc.) I have Odin'd back to EL26 CWM. When I try to flash anything it'll list the zip file being flashed then says "(Bad)" right below it then "installation aborted".
I decided to switch the SD card, throw a 1gb in there for grins and then try to flash. It worked like a charm. So it has to be something with the SD card. Idk what "class" the 1gb is (if that even matters), but I did notice the 1gb was formatted to FAT and the 32gb was Fat32. Does the format make any difference?
Am I missing something? I never had this problem before upgrading to the 32gb
Also, I store all my music on the 32gb and can access it just fine. I only have problems when I try to flash stuff thats on it

Maybe a bad card?
I'd try it in another device. (Oops never mind, saw that you could access music from it)
Maybe the files you copied over to it corrupted? I'd download new files and try again.
My sd card that I use all the time to flash off of is also FAT32 so that cant be it. I'd just do what Esoteric68 said.

I thought about that since it said (Bad) underneath the zip being flashed, but I tried re-copying several files and re-downloading the Zips from different sources. all to no avail.
Have you tried to reformat the card?

I tried it while it was in the phone, but I just removed it an plugged it into my PC and formatted it that way.
I'm going to upload a zip to it and try to flash something in a minute here.
Ok so re-formatting directly at my PC may have worked. I successfully flashed the Rapps update for the Frankenstein ROM. Hopefully this fixed whatever issue the card was having and its smooth sailing from here on out
Glad it worked for you. If I ever start having problems with a card first thing I do is copy the files from my card to PC, then reformat, then copy files back... seems to fix problems most of the time.
Yeah it's possible for it to still see media files on a sdcard that is in need of reformatting. The files system does need to be FAT32 instead of FAT.
ok for some reason all the roms i put on my external sd card isnt showing when i go into cwm but i take out my sd card and put it in my computer the roms are there. How do i fix this?
Just put any ROM your going to flash on your INTERNAL SD and all should be well

In cwm, go to mounts and mount external SD card.

When you go to "install from sd card" are you seeing two options(should be first and last) for install from card or install from phone storage? I ask because there are two different CWMs out there.
What he means is that the new versions of cw would not support External SD even when u try to mount then.
For flashing Rom I recommend internal SD if that's what you are trying to do.
CW Touch 5.8.4.9. No ExSd
Last time just to see the difference I flash back to 5.8.4.6 and it those show both sd with out the need to mount then.
Hope this help

Thanks guys for the help i do notice i have ver. 5.8.4.9. I did go to mounts and mount external sd card and it showed the roms i have on it.
Well I have a new version of CWM Mod, and apparently when you format the sd-card, it no longer formats the inner sd card but your external sd card. I was really pissed as I lost all my data I had saved, but it also managed to screw up my sd card. Neither of my computers recognize my SD Card and I have no idea how I can go about restoring it. My phone can detect the sd card but it will say its corrupt randomly. So I'm guessing CWM formatted the card in a really screwed up way. Any suggestions brahs?
I'll even try to mount the sd card on CWM but it wont be able to mount it. It's a shame to waste a 32 gig sd card like this

Only gives me the option to mount or unmount the SD card
How old is the SD card? This phone is know for eating up the 32 GB cards. I had one for less than 3 weeks and it did the same. I use trwp but there is a thread about cards and our misfortunes with the 32 GB.

Make sure you card is not in exfat. CWM will not read cards in exfat, I had the same problem. If it is you are going to need to format it to fat 32. Most 32gigs sd cards and higher come in exfat now. You are most likey going to have to do it on the computer also it cant be done from CWM.

Yes but my computer won't even detect the SD Card. It was fine and dandy up until yesterday when I hit format on CWM on the SD Card thinking I was formatting the internal storage (since it's labelled /sdcard) but it formatted the actual SD. Windows won't detect my Micro SD and neither will my Mac. However if I put the SD card into my phone and connect via USB, it shows up.

You pressed format /sdcard, and it formatted your extsd? That's a pretty serious bug, so thanks for the heads up. What version of CWM are you running?
Op. I did the same thing a long time ago. I have gotten into the habbit of removing the sd card when I am formatting with a custom recovery. I also back up the sd to my pc and reformat the sd when changing roms. A bit off topic but I also wipe system before flashing a new rom. So far I have avoided many of the issues mentioned day after day. Maybe I am lucky but my wierd habits have been successful so far.

Did you manage to fix the problem though? Not to be rude but I'm looking for solutions towards this specific situation, not advice on what to do next time :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

5.8 something. It's weird because it allows for both internal and external SD use. When you backup the first open is to save to external then its internal. First version of CWM i've ever used with such an option.
For anyone wondering about a solution, I used an android 2.3 device which actually has a format option for the SD card and now my computers recognize it again. Life is good

Anyone else experiencing problems with their micro sd cards? I have a 32 Gb class 10 micro sd card installed and it shows that I only have 200 mb of available space on my external card. The card is empty so how is this possible? Any ideas??

Did ya format it with phone
Most likely an issue with your card not the phone. I definitely haven't had an issues nor have I heard of any
Something similar is happening to my sd card
I am experiencing something similar, i first noticed when trying to copy a zip file to the sd card to install a rom and the zip file didnt show up.
My problem is that i am not able to copy anything to the sd card or delete anything from the sd card. I am however able to copy files from my the sd card to the computer. I have tried formatting it from an android phone,pc,cmd but after the format is done i have the exact same files that were on the sd card. Its strange because after formatiing on my pc it shows the sd card as empty but once i disconnect and re-connect the sd card all the files are somehow back on to the sd card and are not corrputed or anything because i can still play music and view images?
Got a 64Gb card in mine with no problems at all. Shows the same space as it did on my Note 3.

Had the exact same problem with my son's sd card on another phone about a month ago. After too many hours trying different things, I ended up having to throw it out.
It turns out that it's because of the new Android 4.4 update. Google has decided to do away with ability to give permission to write on our sd cards and it is creating quite the uproar everywhere. For those of you that haven't yet encountered these issues, that's only because you aren't running latest Android OS. They mentioned that there might be a fix in the next version of Android Lollipop. But for now, we are left with only one other alternative and that is to root our devices and allow permissions to write to sd cards.

I have a freshly formatted 32 gb micro SD card (fat32) that I put in my Freshly rooted phone using Bliss Pop Rom. When I boot up my phone, go to storage and mount the micro SD, it automatically says that it now has 15bgb on it. Using ES file explorer I examine the contents of the card and there is nothing on it but yet it reads as 15gb left. What's worse is that when I try to copy or move a file to it, a message saying not enough space please free up space to proceed. I Googled the crap out of this issue. No luck. Please help. I use a lot of storage and the SD card is important to me.
Try on stock rom. If it works then stay on stock. Can't stress this enough. CM is to play around with but not as a daily driver. CM is garbage

Just to follow up. . I formatted the card on a PC using a an SD card adapter. After that I had the problem. I researched it and apparently that can mess up, corrupt micro SD cards. So I popped the same micro SD card in my Galaxy s5 and formatted it and the tried it in my LG G3 and it mounted and now works great.
Your microSD card isn't formatted properly

SD cards and microSD cards should not be formatted by the Windows, Apple, or other default program. If you're running Windows, download and install SDFormatter. SD cards have special hidden files that are deleted by the Windows regular formatter. SDFormatter handles the removable media properly.
If you are going to use the SD or mSD card in a particular device, you should >always< format the card in that device before using it.
Yes, what the previous poster said... I wish you could have asked before you did it. Windows is bad at formatting for anything other than NTFS and so is Mac. If you have to format at all, use TWRP. But me personally I recommend to never ever format. I have always managed to turn them into RAW due to multiple formatting because like ivanabq said, Windows just deleted those files. These files are used by Android to read where everything is and if they are gone, it doesn't know how to read the card anymore. Good luck. Hope you get the space back.
Also could you tell us the brand of your microSD? Sometimes the knockoff brands will advertise more space and once you format it, it reveals that it is far less. You might be able to get a full refund knockoff or not.
