Hi
I saw a similar thread with a similar question but I don't think the person was asking the exact same thing and to be honest I didn't fully understand the answers either so apologies if it looks like I am asking about something already covered.
Basically I took a nandroid of my stock 4.1.2 DME6 firmware before I flashed a custom rom. I have since rooted and am using 4.4.2 wesamothman's custom rom. I need to return to stock and have seen the tutorials explaining how to do this using odin and the RUU firmware downloads from Sammobile. But I want to know can I return to stock by restoring my original nandroid, then flashing a stock recovery?
I'm worried because I've heard horror stories about DME6 causing bricks and also I'm not sure if it's possible to go back to an earlier firmware as simple as just restoring a nandroid.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'll get my phone back from motorola after having the speaker problem soon. Also i was quite happy when i looked around the defy section and found out that there are so many 2.2 roms. So now i have this question.
1. I'm not familiar with nandroid back and all that. So if someone can give me some explaination of how it works and what i need to do to have a backup of my rom so i can flash back to orignal one whenever i want?
2. Also i heard from people that some ROMs are not flashable or you can't get back to stock rom (recovery), if so then how you know that certain rom isn't flashable
3. Is there a difference between recoving (flashing stock rom) and downgrading?
Thanks !
No one actually knows what flashing is? recovery....i'm surprised...do answer please if you know anything
Hey guys, so CM10 has been giving me some minor troubles, and I'd like to flash my rom back to the rooted stock rom. Would I be able to just follow the same instructions and rooting it the first time around? Specifically these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426&highlight=restore
In my mind, doing the above is just like wiping the phone, and slapping the old image back on it, but I'm really afraid of bricking my phone, so I'm asking just to make sure. Thanks!
There is a stock firmware thread in the Android development section. Within that, there is a link to root-injected stock firmwares. Both threads have instructions. You should be all set.
recently installed cm 10.2 and had my fun with it and tried to restore my stock rom after making sure I made a backup, for what ever reason it will not restore it and gives me an error. I am using the latest cwm recovery, any help would be great thanks.
Okay since there is not really enough information for me to point in one obvious direction I am going to make some assumptions, those being that previous to your posting your question about restoring that you are on AT&T and where running the latest stock which is 4.1.2, so as of this moment unless it was posted in the last week, Samsung updates does not yet have the stock image posted, so if you want to return to stock you will likely have to download a stock rooted rom from the S3 development thread and move it to your sdcard and restore it that way, if you won't to be totally stock and unrooted I would wait till the update is posted on Samsung updates and the restore to stock with Odin, I hope this helps, if you have more questions please try to give a little more information about what you did and what errors you encountered in the process so answers can address your specific problems

I sold my Note 2 for Sprint and I now just want to flash a stock Touchwiz ROM or near stock at least. I haven't used the phone in a few months and i've looked over the development forum but i'm unclear on what to flash. I remember seeing a stock ROM but I can no longer find it. I am currently on Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4, baseband L900VPAMA7. All I want is the easiest way to send my phone to the buyer with a stock or near stock experience. I want the easiest avenue because I do not want to brick the phone right before I send it out. I also have a nandroid of my first stock backup of Android 4.1.1 which I don't know if it is safe to flash. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? It would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
From what I gathered and correct me if i'm wrong, simply flashing the MC2 Stock zip, it will unroot the phone and take me back to stock (what version of Android does it downgrade to? Will the phone be able to receive the updated versions of Touchwiz?). If I want to stay rooted, then i flash the root.zip file right after i flash the MC2 Stock zip? (Would this be able to get updates to Touchwiz?)
Are there any other alternatives to getting a stock experience?
I did this about 2 month ago and it went back to stock unroot...yes u will be able to update... also it u want to stay rooted then flash the root file right after before again before rebooting and it will stay rooted ...no if stay rooted u will not be able to get update.... If u reall wanted to stay rooted there's a few stock rooted rom .. link provided

If you have taken the ne2 ota or flashed it with odin DO NOT FLASH that file. If you have not taken the ne2 update than it is ok to use.
