I'm very new to overclocking, and so far have managed to only perma-root my phone. I don't understand how to install any of the kernels, and following a method in a guide ( which mentioned using adb to detect the phone in CMD) did not work, as the phone was not detected and I couldn't find out how to fix it.

To overclock you need an overclock kernel. The easiest way is to download ROM Manager from the market, use ROM Manager to install CWM recovery. After that, check the sticky in the forum for a list of compatible kernels (I use Baconbits v3), download a kernel and place it at the root of your SD card, boot into recovery and flash the kernel you downloaded.
Be sure to do a backup from recovery as well as clear cache and dalvik (in the advance section) before doing so.
After that, download a CPU app from the Market (I use SetCPU, others like CPU Tuner) and follow the prompts.

if you're trying to use adb in the terminal, you need to turn on debugging on the phone in Settings>Applications>Development before the device can be recognized by adb.
So its basically the same thing as flashing a rom like cyanogen? It wouldn't affect stability would it?

Hi, I have flashed Virtuous 1.0.1 on my phone, in description of this ROM, there i smentioned:
"Custom built kernel based on official HTC sources, including support for overclocking, CIFS, NFS and Tunneling (VPN). See post #2 of this thread for more detail on our kernel setup."
It means I dont need to do any aditional operations, except installin setCPU and play with it, right?

I decided to flash some ZIPs and so as usual go to CWM and flash. I've noticed this time it doesn't work, the usual way I do it is pressing the back button, tried the volume down button as well but no luck. Is there any reason why this happened? Could it be because I flashed a new framework recently that added on screen buttons? Or could have it been some modules I flashed to enable USB drives on my phone for stock ROM.
Is it possible to re install it without messing up my phone? I have modified the SystemUI and Framework so I'm not sure if I can. I use a program called RecoverX to install CWM but it only works on stock ROMs, I'm on stock but could the modified Framework make the installation corrupted? I may want to try using X-Parts but it has never successfully installed CWM for me which is why I use RecoverX.

It should not be the problem of the framework. Not very sure about the USB Drivers though. If you are willing to unlock bootloader, you can flash a stock kernel with CWM and try to flash the zip files again.

Sadly, my bootloader status is unable to be unlocked. I suppose I could always flash back to stock ROM but I don't want to re install and configure everything again. Once I re-flash everything I would probably get the same problem I had in the first place. I cannot make a nandroid back up as well although I did find an app in the play store that will create one for you, although I'd prefer using CWM because it seems much safer. Does anyone know if reinstalling it would damage the phone? I'll try contacting the developer of the program. ,

Not that I know of, since you cannot unlock bootloader. If you could, flashing a kernel with CWM would have done the trick.

Hi guys, I am very new to this community and this is my first post. So this is what happened:
I had my One X for about 4 months now, and I was starting to want something new so I rooted it and unlocked the bootloader everything went just fine. So I realized root isn't the only big thing you can do to tweak your device so I wanted to flash a custom ROM. I wanted to customize it so I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611349 to customize CMOD 10 based on Jelly Bean and flash it to my device. So I finished my custom ROM and wanted to flash it to my device. So I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904 (post 2 only (of course)).
At first when I tried to flash my custom ROM I didn't make any backup because I had Titanium backup and I thought that it does the same thing as recovery backup (now I know it doesn't) so I don't have the stock ROM on backup. I was disappointed that the device won't boot, it only shows the boot screen "HTC quietly brilliant". And then I saw boot.img I didn't knew what to do with it so I read about it and found out that I need to flash the boot.img before I flash the ROM. So I deleted everything again and done it all over again, but I flashed boot.img that came with the CM 10 first and then flashed the ROM itself. I've done everything correctly and my device still won't boot. It's over 20 minutes and still showing the "HTC quietly brilliant" like before the boot.img.
What should I do and very much thanks for the helpers I don't want to lose my device. :crying:
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is my first android device.

Okay matey, here's your problem:
You need a special boot.img for your newer hboot version. Check post # 9308 in CM10 thread for link.
Unfortunately GPS doesn't work with this boot.img.

Probably something went wrong when you customized it. What exactly did you do? Why not just download it as it is?
And when you talked about github.... you mean you built it from source?

I did built it form source. I got in a folder 3 files: 2 folders: system and META-INF 3rd file is boot.img.
I probably don't know what to put in update.zip (what folders) would you tell me?
I customized some colors, battery skin on the status bar and fonts. I also customized build.prop and added adrenaline script so I got another folder named "data".
could you tell me how to pack it all to update.zip? I guess my problem is that.
P.S. I also sign it after packing it to update.zip with auto-signer using java.
THX in advance!
Here's one idea: Download the pre built zip of the rom and use it as a template. Replace all the folders inside with your own, custom ones.

I tried it this is the result... Don't you have an experience with ROM building?
Not sure if you understood correctly.
I meant you should dl the rom from get.cm and then replace the files with the ones you built and modified.
If this is exactly what you did, then I'm out of ideas.
I, in fact, haven't built a rom from source in my life.

well for 4.2.2 roms u need a 4.2.2 kernel
and Paranoid Android 4.2.2 is not stable(doesnt boot even with kernel)
so if u want a working phone, flash A sense ROM since you're already on Titanium KISS kernel
and for jelly bean, u can try Shpongle
but remember to flash the correct kernel

I think I will have to remove the SD card and use another phone to transfer zip file to it.. ( I don't have Card reader)
