Should I do a Factory reset before exchange - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased the 16gb Tab S a few days ago. I've decided to take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for the 32gb version. Should I do the factory reset option on the tab before I take it in or let them do it. They had an open box 8.4 and I asked the sales guy about it and he said they just do a factory reset and sell it at a $50 discount. Thanks

YES it is fast and easy and do not trust them to wipe your data.

Also, will I be able to download my movies again to a new tab? I already used my hunger games pack app and gravity and downloaded them but they will be gaone with a factory reset. Maybe someone here has exchanged or returned a defective unit and can offer some insight.

S3 Factory Reset,Any way to get her videos back?

I had to do a Factory reset because a cheap sd card messed up her phone
Is there any way to get her vacation vids back, could they still be there somewhere, and how / what program could I use?
I ask because some paid programs claim they can get them back, is this true?

SM-T800 Password locked & in Retail Mode. Am I hosed?

So... I bought a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on ebay. The guy who was selling it said it works fine but it's password locked and he didn't know how to remove it so he was selling it "AS IS FOR PARTS" I thought that shouldn't be hard to fix. Factory Reset and we should be good to go...
However, I'm pretty sure this was a store demo unit and in addition to being password locked its also in Retail mode (At least that's my best guess because I can't get into Factory Reset mode)... Everything that I've read says that Retail mode won't allow you to get to the factory reset screen. I can get into Oden mode but when I try factory reset it gives me a black screen. Can I get rid of the password protection by flashing the firmware in Oden? Once I get into the tablet I think I know how to disable retail mode but I can't get past the log in screen. I didn't want to start messing around with it if its a hopeless cause but if there is a way around this mess I would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Thank you in advance!
This has been posted several times already the past week or so. A quick search would have yielded the answer.
Flash twrp via odin, boot to recovery, factory reset, reboot to download mode, flash stock firmware with odin for the device region.
Done.
I'd also like to query how people are coming by these demo tablets? Are they even legal otherwise why would they be passworded and in demo mode. A little suspicious if you ask me.

Well, I don't know about how all the other people obtained their "demo" tablets, whether legally or otherwise, but I am also one of those "demo" tablet owners. I actually got lucky and came across mine, which is in pristine condition, at my local Best Buy for about $220 a month ago.

A lot of stores will let you buy the demo unit if you push hard enough (sometimes pushing isnt even required) and they don't have one in stock. That being said; you know little brat kids go through all the tablets just to put passwords on them so no one can test them out. Probably a lost cause, but when I went for a walk last night I decided to stop at Walmart to get a snack and drink and while I was there I wanted to play with some of the other tablets. Before I could do so though, I had to remove the passwords. Thank you for recovery mode.

All retail stores have a place that processes returns or when they're demos are done to make room for the next new big thing.. the "old" go to reclamation.. I can speak specifically for walmart office depot office max.. this product is then resold to a liquidation buyer or mom and pop stores or online business' .. then they resell.

I can speak specifically for Office Depot/Office Max as I am an employee and this is not how they liquidate the "old" models. They do not sell to liquidation buyers, mom and pop stores or online businesses. They clearance out the old stuff and sell it at a marginal discount prior to displaying the new stuff in store.

Chinese seller messed up 7t flash to EU ROM?

So I got 7t off Aliexpress. I asked the seller not to flash Global Rom (whatever that means) but he said he can't do that. Well I ordered it anyways and it arrived clearly used (i.e. customized with apps like Netflix and some apps like Google Movies marked as used 2 weeks before I got it in Google Play Store) and with EU ROM installed. The biggest issue is troubles with installing anything via Google Play store. After I logged in with my gmail account, PlayStore got stuck updating apps like Google services and Chrome. Then I couldn't install ANYTHING, any app I add would get stuck downloading. I obviously set the proper date and time (btw, when the phone arrived, it was off by a few days on the clock, not sure why would that be the case), tried clearing cache/data on Play Store, Play Store Services, rebooting, anything I could think of I tried and still it doesn't work. Then by some miracle some apps got installed (after hours of idle) but an hour later the same story all over again! I'm wondering if the vendor messed up the EU ROM flash and it's acting up, or perhaps he installed some spyware/malware which is interfering with normal operation of the phone. I'm ready to apply MSM tool and flash international ROM but would like to hear any suggestions to avoid that, don't want to brick the phone, besides, I prolly should start a dispute with guy for messing up the phone so bad that I paid a lot of money for
You need to MSM the phone back to a global stock that is available..find that thread. Or, just dispute the charge and return the thing. Sound sketchy the entire situation.
Follow the instructions to factory reset the phone with MSM tool and everything will be fine don't worry.
By the way, Netflix is installed by default as a system app this is normal. As well as Google play movies.
You could try a simple factory reset from the settings first.
yeah, MSM is the last resort, that's why I asked. I was just wondering what the heck happened and why I can't install anything despite all the troubleshooting I tried. I'm also not sure if MSM will clear up everything the guy left behind on my phone.
The problem is not just the installed apps like netflix, it's the reported usage of the apps 2 weeks prior to delivery! I didn't even know it, just came across "my apps" screen in Play store and there it is, some apps report being used 2 weeks ago, and that's in the first few hours of me receiving it. I'm just not comfortable with the phone that's been in use by someone before I got it, not sure if I can trust with my financial data, passwords and so on. The seller took a whole week from the moment I placed the order to shipping it out, probably a bit more.

I understand. You ordered it from China? How much time did it take to come?
Mine took 5 weeks. So usage 2 weeks ago would not be worrisome. Maybe they simply forget to reset the phone after flashing the ROM. I don't know the procedure but they maybe test the phone quickly before resetting it and this time.... They forgot to factory reset it. But the fact that you can't install apps is really strange I agree. Anyways MSM should format and re-encrypt everything so it should be good.

Mine was about 3 weeks but that's as reported by Aliexpress. The postal service actually recorded receiving the package about 2 weeks before I got it, so it's possible that the guy simply printed out the shipping label but shipped it later.
Does MSM clear out any potential rooting or whatever else in the bootloader apart from firmware itself?

As I understand, it completely resets the phone to stock so you should loose root and unlocked bootloader if it was unlocked.
I got a 7t pro McLaren edition from China, took 5 days to get to me buying from eBay. Arrived 2 hours ago sealed brand new with global rom/Google maps out the box. It's weird some have oxygen OS and playstore from factory and some don't
Mine arrived sealed as well, but it was sealed by the seller, not at the OnePlus factory. It was obvious from the addition of a plug adapter and misplaced SIM ejector in the box

Just received my second one last Thursday and it was sealed as well. Obviously done by the seller as it is a Chinese one (256GB) with global rom.

Bought a FRP S20+ unknowingly Help

Good Evening folks,
asking for hopefully an answer to my stupidity. Bought a Galaxy s20+ 5G today as I thought id treat myself. (Used of Course as i could never justify the price of phones new these days haha) Phone was reset before I got there and it looked good to me so took it.
I normally go through it fully but with covid about i didnt want to sit about so was quick. Got home and setting up was introduced to a message saying it was attempted to be factory reset and i need to put in the details of the previous owner (who had vanished online).
Now I assume this is the same as icloud lock and cant be removed? or is there a way to get past this?
In the olden days id just install a custom rom or flash a stock firmware but i guess this isnt as easy at that?
All help apppreciated.
Nope, best try to find the seller and sort it out with them

Question gmail and password from previous owner needed - Help

Got an ex review Galaxy fold 4 which had not been wiped before I was given it. I factory resetted it, but it needs the gmail and gmail password from the previous owner... is there any way to byoass this or will it simply be easier to chase up the previous owner?

first who knows how you have got the device? You really new owner or what someone trying to hack into hte device. Kindly reach out the old owner. or do your own research.
Let's be reasonable. Telling us you need the account info from the previous owner is a HUGE red flag. That means is was never factory reset when it was...sold/given/stolen to/by...you. So do understand we are not a community that will assist anyone with a stolen device.
That said, methuselah is correct. You should research the issue instead of asking for help via a vague post. You COULD take it to your carrier's store and have them assist you. Honestly, that's the best route. Take the proof of purchase with you to show it's not stolen.
Good luck.
Of course. That is totally reasonable, For background, I am a reviewer and Samsung's local PR firm forgot to reset the phone before couriering it to me (which is incredibly frustrating). I have reached out to their PR team, but it is taking forever to get this resolved Meanwhile I have a shiny galaxy fold 4 sitting there that is unusable
there are ways but FBI would raid me if I tell u...
nice try tho
I'm sending it back to Samsung to be swapped out for a fresh review sample...

That's FRP (factory reset protection). Background: Let's pretend that your mobile device got stolen. The first thing a thief will do is to reset the phone, because without knowing the correct display pattern the device is pretty useless (and it's very hard to sold in that state ). Since the settings menu is also unreachable with a locked display the thief is forced to reset the phone via recovery mode. This mode must be always accessible by pressing the right key combo in case you are in serious trouble with an unbootable device. Doing it that way, the following setup of the device requires a login to the last active Google account to verify the owner.
This verification step is also required if you do a factory reset in your settings menu. But here the verification is done before you delete everything by entering your display pattern. This will disable FRP for the following reset because you have then verified that this device is yours.
As a reviewer of the phone, you must have contact to a person of Samsung's local PR firm. Talk to her/him and get a new one.
Yes as mentioned above that is exactly what I am doing...
Thanks for the follow up, that all sounds fine. It just helps to give more information.
Yes, if you contacted Sammy and they are replacing it, then you found the best route. Good luck on the review.
Sharing frustration of all ends. Got a refurbished Sammy phone on Amazon, it arrived with someone's pwd on it. I bought it as a backup phone for the office so we discovered it outside the 90 days warranty and could not have sent back. I have the receipt, it is AMAZON selling it, and I have a brick on my desk. Nice, isn't it?
