Aloha!
I am trying to fix a friend's phone, what he got is when turning on the note 2 its stuck on the boot screen.
First thing I tried is factory reset, but when going to recovery mode it says can't mount /efs. Same thing happens when trying to factory reset.
If there is any fix for it, I'd love to hear!
If not, can someone please guide me on how to install blank and new bl+kernel+rom?
I tried following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060389
1) When I try to flash the BL through odin - it fails:

2) I didn't find a link for the kernel installation file - just the source files
3) I didn't find a link for the rom file which is recognized by odin - tar or md5 etc
Feel free to treat me like a newbie, and please leave detailed info...
I flashed my fair share of roms on my old S2, so if anything I wrote is outdated (still using ODIN?) please correct me
Thanks!

Well I looked in the link you gave but didn't find it much helpful, either I tried flashing CWM but now it won't go to recovery mode at all.
When I just turn on the phone its stuck on the "Samsung" screen.
When I go to recovery its stuck on the Galaxy Note II screen.
And download mode works fine.
I think I first need to flash a new kernel and rom, anyone can provide me with links to kernel and a rom that works with it and both flashable by odin?
All the threads in the development section have .zip files and those not flashable by odin.
thanks
Anyone?
Link to rom and kernel that can be flashed using Odin.

Someone please help. I let a co-worker use my rooted epic and he's supposedly into developing ROMS so I trusted him. To make a long story short he tried to update my profile and PDL. When I got my phone back the phone had a number of data errors so I used quick boot to reboot. When the phone rebooted it went into recovery mode with an error that said E:/can't open\cache\recovery\log. I have re odin the DK28 modem and pit file but when I try to flash a new ROM it boots back into recovery with the same error. Any suggestions would be great! Help please.
sounds like an ex friend now lol. Have you tried odin back to eclair?
Odin the entire tar ball, not just the modem. Its a different post on here.

Ok... I was able to odin back to stock and am now running Build number Samsung ECLAIR.DG27. I am trying to re-root the phone but am having difficulty. I installed SDK and I can see my device in adb when I type adb devices. When I try to on-click root it shows that the devices is offline. Any suggestions? I am trying to get back to 2.2 and run Nebula Twin Jets. I loved it and would like to get back to norm.

I want to update to the JB/ICS Cyanogenmod rom released in the development section. But I'm afraid of bricking my phone. The glide is my first contract phone with AT&T, and I don't want to end up bricking-beyond-fixing.
I used to own a Huwaei Ascend from Cricket Mobile and rooted/flashed it to Cyanogenmod and wasn't that afraid because I knew back then how to do everything I wanted and how it worked. But..with this being my first contract phone, I'm quite scared to void my warranty and if there's any way to reverse the root/rom flashing back to stock if something were to happen with the phone.
Please help quell my fears and help me make my Glide amazing?
Thank you so much!
You don't have to worry! As long as you can reboot to download mode, you can unbrick your phone.
Just be prepared with a stock ICS ROM, what you can flash via Odin.

So, the Odin that nearly everyone says to use is what I need to get and understand. And make sure that I get the stock ICS to flash.
And, download mode is that volume up + power button trick right?

If you have CWM, you can flash a ZIP, that contains the required Superuser to gain root acces.

Yes. If you flash this ZIP in recovery, you will have a rooted phone.
INC3PTION ROM is a GB variant, so that would be downgrading from ICS.
IMPORTANT.
If your system works right now, make a nandroid backup BEFORE downgrading to INC3PTION in case of any problems.
And take a look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897224

How to make a nandroid backup.
- boot into recovery
- in recovery, select "backup and restore"
- select "backup"
- wait until it completes
done!
Nandroid backup helps you to get your system back, if anything goes wrong with an update.

Screwed up my partition on my sprint note 4(sm-n910p) searched high and low for a .pit file. If anyone could help me out i would love you because both sprint and samsung wont help out.
Can you still access custom recovery? If so, have you tried wiping each partition in recovery? (specially system partition). Try flashing just the TWRP recovery and then reboot into recovery and try wiping everything several times over.If you're able to wipe system then go back and try to Odin the stock NK2 rom .tar.md5. If this fails then you're stuck with trying to pul a pit file or filing an insurance claim. How did this happen anyway?

One time i was wiping every partition in TWRP and it crashed doing system.
I can get to recovery and everything works like normal on aosp and custom ROMs.
However when I odin the stock NIE or NK2 it will only bootloop even though odins saying its good. (i then odin TWRP and flash a customer rom. And I had the NK2 update.
Then when I flash liquid it used to say success result /system. After the recovery crashed it says success result =-=-=-=-. Idk if they changed the script or not.
And another rom I flashed said it couldnt un mount system.
It still wipes fine in TWRP though... Maybe I have another issue with the stock image and they did change the script to say =-=-. I was just going to try the pit as a way to fix it.

If you have a bad partition, no rom would boot. You don't need to repartition. Try odin version 3.07 .

Does Odin need the pit file to repartition? Or does that work just by using a stock tar? I've never tried.
When you flash the stock ROM in oden, and you get a boot loop, go into stock recovery and do a factory reset and reboot. That should boot it for you.

A pit file by itself will create the partitions and nothing more. (the correct pit for your specific device that is) The rom .tar files that have the pit file will do it all in one while flashing the stock rom.
For anybody wondering... By all means DO NOT flash a pit file unless you are absolutely positive you have a good working pit for your specific device and know exactly what you're doing. Don't assume you have a bad partition and go flashing a pit file willy nilly to see if it will fix your phone. You can destroy the partition if you're not careful. Flashing a pit file should be done as a last resort. Literally.

Depending on the software. Pit files are absolutely dependent on the software version especially between versions of android. For exanple, a pit file for Jellybean is different than the pit file for kitkat and the pit file for kitkat is gonna be different for Marshmallow. Word of advice... As a general rule, official Samsung rom tar's will include the pit file for major updates to software versions such as when updating from andrioid 4.4.4 to 5.0 as well as 5.0.0 to 5.1.1 as well as android 5.1.1 to 6.0.1, etc. So look for the pit files to be included in major updates to android and usually the pit files will not be included in the security patch updates to the same version of andriod for your device.
with this said, if you feel you need to repartition your phone then by all means download the most recent software version for your phone that will most likely include the appropriate pit file. Like I mentioned above, these pit files will always be included in major updates to android. OG5 includes a pit, and PC1 includes a pit. Good luck.
Hello everyone,
A few days ago I tried to root my A5 2017(A520F). I needed to wipe my data to be able to root my phone, but I accidently deleted my whole system. When I try to flash a original filmware with odin I get this message: Set partition(nand write). I searched for that error on the internet and people said I needed to use a pit file. So I got a pit file and tried to flash it with the filmware but that didn't help. Do I use the wrong pit with the filmware? What can I do to get my phone back to life? I have TWRP and I can get into download mode.
Thanks in advance.
