[Q] Bootloader location? - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

I hard bricked my Kindle Fire 2nd Gen. Flashed an incorrect bootloader I believe. It no won't turn on at all and the computer does not recognize anything being plugged in. Not even with a fastboot cable.
My question is this - Is the bootloader flashed into a chip on the motherboard? I can get another working motherboard. I just want to make sure that the bootloader is not located in another part of the Kindle before I go that route. My suspicions are that it is indeed part of the motherboard after seeing the unbrick post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415870
Would a new motherboard fix a bootloader that was flashed with the wrong file so i can start over?

How to return a rooted Kindle Fire (Hardware problem)?

Hey guys,
I want to return my Kindle Fire as its charging port has gone lose. There is some amount of "play" in the charging port and it charges only when I push the charger all the way up. And if the wire is moved even slightly during charging process, it stops charging.
Hence, I want to claim the warranty and return my KF however the problem is I have rooted it some time back. And I have heard, amazon treats it as violation of warranty.
Under these circumstances, can someone please help me how to get around this to be able the claim the warranty? Has anyone done this before?
Thanks!!
Yep use kfu and install twrp... then flash stock software. After wiping everything of course... that will erase twrp and root... also wipe the twrp folder of your kindles sdcard..

Thanks
Thanks a lot fiddlefaddle and Josepho1997. I will follow the instructions to return it. Good thing is its quite new so I don't have any data to backup .

Yep..
resurect this post but how can i solve this problem when the kindle fire isnt charged and wont take a charge????
Yeah my Kindle is dead and I can't charge because the Usb port is bad. I told amazon that the port was bad and they are going to send me a new one. However what happens when and if they find out the one in sending back is rooted? I didn't tell them on the phone that it was.

I just performed the reset to stock as detailed above. However I do not have enough battery power to do a reset of the SD card. I manually wiped the files with a file explorer app and Im just going to kill the battery before I send it back. The charging port is broken so they would have to repair it before the could check it. I doubt they will go through this much trouble considering the charging port is a widespread problem.

Let me guess, you tried to flash firefirefire bootloader or used Kindle fire utility, they are made for the original KF, Sorry i have to tell you this but this device is permanently bricked, What you need to do now is contact amazon and ship it back to them, They'll give you a replacement!

No. An attempt was made to manually put the boot twrp. how to make the device as defined cpu omap44xx?
Link us to The directions you are following.
What you are doing has NOT BEEN DONE WITH THIS DEVICE.
What instructions did you follow to update the boot?
My advice is to return your device to Amazon before you damage it to the point of no repair

hard bricked kindle fire hd 7" fastboot cable flashing 8.9 bootloader, recoveries, ect.

hard bricked kindle fire hd 7" fastboot cable flashing 8.9 bootloader, recoveries, ect.
So i had purchased a fastboot cable to unbrick my kindle fire hd 8.9 out of a boot loop. adb read great, ran fastboot and got it restored finally using kfhd tool. then started to attempt to load 2nds bootloader and twrp and now it seems to be hard bricked! won't even turn on or anything connected with the fastboot cable now and was working flawlessly earlier. major help would be appreciated ;please please--------------------------
ii
edit:- so what i thought was the 8.9" kindle fire hd is actually now that ive opened into hardware had come to be the 7" Kindle fire hd . So i believe the source of my hard brick via the fastboot cable (that was working so i should have known right there) trying to flash 8.9" bootloader, and recoveries, and imgs. Is there anyway out of this mess? the only avenue i could think to even work would be attempt the linux usbboot shorting trick withg the command prompts. only problem im having is find a tutorial or a pic confirming what i support to short on motherboard. all i can find is on different hardware with the kindle fire hd 8.9". ive ran the kfhd utilities but just runs as cant not load img or device not reconized. help..........

This is the HDX forum. not the HD. You will probably get better answers from someone actively working on THAT device, than you will here. You really should never mess with things you don't fully understand & you should NEVER use tools designed for older models or other devices. Older devices have different hardware in many instances, so everything is different. Flashing bootloaders or firmware for another device is often time a fatal mistake. I could be wrong, again check in the appropriate forum, but unless you have a custom recovery or safestrap installed, you are likely up a creek, short of jtag & to be honest, with the way the newer devices are, even that is a long shot.
The shorting trick doesn't work on the HD models, well it does but it doesn't, we need a xloader or uboot(can't remember which) that is signed by amazon when you start the process because the processor is a high security model. Only amazon and TI have those files and they aren't public. If it is hard bricked the best bet is to wait until we get the pinout for a 7"HDs emmc, once we do that you can solder a USB sdcard reader to the motherboard of the kindle and reflash the boot loader from linux and it will run again, so far we can do this on the kf2 and the hd8.9" model but we still are waiting for the 7" HD pin out.

[Q] Completely Bricked Kindle Fire

I completely bricked my kindle fire 2. When I press the power button, no lights or anything happen. I was trying to install CM10 but I failed. Here is what I did,
I got my Kindle fire 2 on fastboot and then I flashed a new bootloader. Unfortunately the download for the bootloader I used just randomly stopped so most of the .bin wasn't even downloaded so basicly I flashed an incomplete bootloader.
Here is a link to the corrupted/incomplete bootloader
"mediafire.com/view/ma023jdf2xt70yy/otter2.bin" (Sorry xda won't let me post links)
As you can see the bootloader above is only 2kb and the original file was 220ish kb.
Now when I press the on button nothing happens, no lights or anything and my computer doesn't recognize anything when I plug it in. I have already tried the "hold power button for 20 seconds"
So how would I unbrick my kindle fire if I don't want to soldier stuff. If it isn't possible, would it be possible for amazon to give me a kindle fire at a discounted price even though I rooted it. (I also bought it on ebay like 8 months ago)
When you are still under warenty shure but when not it could be a bit more difficult. The hardest way is to soldir the EMMC and load the ROM directly in the chip. The other way is to buy a new mainboard... Good luck

[Q] KFhd8.9 2nd gen died

Hi , I do apologies if this is a repeated thread. I am very new with KF. My friend gave his KF which the model says 3HT7G and I guess is the 2nd gen KFHD 8.9". This KF doesn't power on at all.I tryied to hold the power button for 20 sec. and nothing happened. Did it again and connect to the power and nothing happened. I connected to 2 different win 7 pcs one of them didn't recognised at all. The other ine says unknow device. Even unistall driver and use the driver which I found on this website didn't work at all. What I know is that my friend tryied to root it maybe with the wrong version (for 1st gen?). My question is , is there any chance to try to recover it ?

If he tried to use kindle fire utility on a kindlfe fire 8.9" then it is ruined, only way to recover from that is to solder a sdcard reader to the motherboard and reflash the bootloader from a linux os. I havent checked to see if that is definately the 8.9" model or not. Usually its hard bricked if it wont even power on.
Thank you very much for your reply. Do you know where to find a guide about how to do that. Anyway it is a8.9"
I also saw that is possible to change the motherboard is that true?
Thanks again.

You can replace the motherboard, but if you want any of your data back frist i suggest the other method. Lemme find a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581124
i Don't remember if it has the instructions or not so lemme find the kf2 thread that has the instructions, The instructions are basically the same, only difference is that the pinouts for what to solder where are different and when you finally do get it working you have substitute the bootloader with the correct one for the kindl efire 8.9" rather than the kf2's.

I just wanted to verify replacing the motherboard would fix the problem. I have hard bricked my wife's Kindle Fire 8.9 HD. Can't turn it on, no response with connected to a computer. I tried detaching and reattaching the battery but no luck. If replacing the motherboard will work, I am willing to give it a try.
Yea you can replace the motherboard to fix a hard brick, but if you have a soldering iron then you could fix it without replacing the motherboard.
