Stock 4.3 and 4.4 in camera - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I bought Z1c, it is already on kitkat. Who has used the old 4.3 firmware before?
Which is better now? the old stable 4.3 firmware or the latest 4.4.4 in terms of camera?

Almost no one use old 4.3 now because no 4k and timeshift video mod and bionz won't work on unlocked BL in 4.3 .... a new 4.4.4 update(.133) will come next week too.

Indeed, for the quality-wise I think 4.3 and 4.4.2 is better but 4.4.4 got slightly improved focus and better denoise so overall the result is 4.4.4 but 4.3/4.4.2 should preserve more details both in photo and video. Since focus is more important, so most guys will just switch to 4.4.4.

Just got my ZL on the Bell Network. It came with Android 4.1.2
Should I update the software? Im not interested in Rooting it yet, just wanna try it out for a few weeks stock.

Well I'm for one just updated to 4.2.2...the difference is that I know of is the memory card capacity is upgraded to 64GB..and the lock screen is a bit different..they put up a window for apps..an small apps icon is simpler but boring looking...and somehow, the camera is producing not impressive result...my xperia t and iphone 4 produce finer detail than my zl...wonder why...hmm
Haven't really had any issues with 4.2.2

I have not had any problems so far with 4.2.2.
Same here, not problem at all in 4.2.2

No problems on eXistenz rom, pretty smooth especially with Nova launcher. I've found stock launcher to be buggy and laggy, as well once root access is available you can modify files that will promote speed, better ram access, wake lock detector to avoid draining apps that are useless, etc. On average I get 4 hours of screen time with around 20-30 hours of standby with typical use of music, texting, internet, etc.
the people who have 4.2.2 can tell if the max resolution of the camera is 13 MPX ? ore 12MPX.

Post results, please. My ZL is getting repaired and im dying to test the camera. :cyclops:
Hmm... Not sure if this will share right...Flicker-set
Here's a couple of pictures taken with and without flash of a rack of servers and of a bookshelf. The shots include those taken with the ZL, a S2, and a S3...
I would say the ZL does ok... though I like the manual pictures better than the Superior Auto. Alot of noise gets introduced when it tries to adjust the ISO settings to something way past the optics of the phone.
I haven't really looked at the camera on anything pre 2.67...)
Note - the S2 is running T989UVMC6 (4.1.2), the S3 is an I747 running 4.1.1 JR003L.I747UCDLK3.
Both phones are rooted, but are running stock TW roms.
I actually disagree, and think that the stock camera app was better in Android 4.2. It doesn't seem nearly as good in low light areas with Android 4.3, compared to before the update. I have been searching for a camera app on the Play Store for a little while today, and I might try a few and compare the qualities of them versus the stock Sony camera app.
Has anyone else tried any different camera apps on the Play Store?

[Q] Z1 ROM to Z1 compact?

I am sure I saw someone mention kind of patch to use a z1 ROM on a Z1C without issues. however I can't find it anywhere, so if it actually does exist can someone please provide the link?
And is it a simple process?

I can find it easily in dev section...... you said you got M8 and now got Z1c?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668416
Remember this method only works for Monx and RomAur,some other roms may also work but you have to modify the rom to make it works on z1c. Only Monx and Romaur is easy method but Monx is still on 4.4.2 now and only Romaur got 4.4.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54330224&postcount=83
I've tested it works on z1c perfectly but I don't know which recovery compatible with it. I was using it without recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/cwm-recovery-kernel-deactivated-ric-t2814708
Someone told this recovery might work but no one knows, I will test it later when I have more free time.
That was me, I also didn't have enough time to test this yet. There's not much that could go wrong though, since the kernel can easily be replaced anytime it should be sufficient to reflash it from the already downloaded FTF (like step 9 in the instructions you wrote). Anyway, I'm gonna try that tonight (if it keeps raining here  ).

Actually the answer can be no, that's why I asked for a workable recovery. I was stuck on Sony logo and even step9 doesn't fix it, I was wiped the whole phone and finally made it return to normal. Dualrecovery should also flashed somethings in the rom, not only flashed the recovery partiton and not compatible with Romaur v9.1.

I'm also coming from HTC and the focus better than z1c on average. The problem on z1c is focus and made photo slightly not clear and sharp as expected. When it can focus, the 20M 1/2.3" sensor quality is decent and outperformed HTC but it is unreliable so I back to use HTC takes photo though the details isn't decent but I think a stable camera is more important.
I got z1c mainly for the 4k recording because I'm a video lover. So, I can just ignore the problem but majority of people used it as a photo camera, they may don't think this is good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2730097
Just make sure you updated to 4.4.4 and flash this mode v7 8M mode(20M is buggy) and you are good. The focus and image quality is improved and more acceptable now. Sony said they will rewrite the camera software and big improvement is coming but it will out with Android L and still a long time for us to wait for.

That is a rumor news, no official. But I do believe it because there is not much surprise on z3/z3c, I wonder without the software revolution what's left on the new phones?
I don't actually think Sony will release it for z1/z1c/z2 but since we are all still using the same camera module, that mean we can port it but only after when we received Android L updates and xposed released ART ver because Android L will remove dalvik mode and xposed currently no ART.
We should receive Android L at Q1 2015 if L no late and it will also take some time to do porting. So, at the end it is a long waiting time. Personally, I have a high chance to just stick with z1c on 2015 because I don't real want to spend too much again on Sony and z3c is quite big in my opinion. evleak said 4.5" but from the leaked picture the size more believable at around 4.55" - 4.6". I give the chance for Sony this year and if I want to upgrade I would like to try Iphone, Samsung or go back HTC next time.
SA(auto scene modes) will only work with 8M originally and that mod made it also works on 20MP but high burst mode should no longer working correctly and 20MP SA also got bad focus. It's just not good to use 20MP SA mod.

They are different mods from different devs. If you are on kitkatslim evo8.0/8.1, you can flash this patch to return to stock then flash the v7 8MP mode. Remember to clean all settings related with camera every time before you flash mod.
But I may forced back 4.4.2 my Sony SmartWatch2 doesn't seems working good with 4.4.4, some of my sw2 apps not yet updated to fully working under 4.4.4. I'll need to do some more testing to confirm it. And I think the 4k recording quality dropped very slightly in v7 because it used more of libs from z1c stock 4.4.4 and affected the 4k quality this is my guess. We will need to wait for z2 4.4.4 release to real fix all problem.

I'd be happy with a 5.0 aosp rom as the main things which annoyed me were now adressed: camera and battery life. Those are 2 things which ALWAYS push me back to tw roms.
There is not a single camera app which has such a good post processing as samsungs' with low light shot. And 1 day battery (aosp) with light usage vs 3 on tw roms doesn't really make aosp look better.

CM13 IS Marshmallow you i... also, CM13 has multiwindow too. None of them has "defects". They both work great. They work so great infact that it's no longer a question of functionality but rather a question of preference.

Except, it doesn't have "a lot of bugs". It has "some" bugs, most of which you won't even notice, as any ROM out there has, even official OEM ones. The camera is a non-issue as you can easily find apps in the Play Store that have even more functionality than LG's stock camera app.

Well I tried it a week ago exactly. That build had more than just "some bugs". App wise you are right, there is Proshot and Camera FV-5. But you mean CM13 now also has a working laser focus, spectrum sensor and long exposure for the camera?
What about qslide? Is it available on cm 13? And which camera app is better than lg stock camera or cm13 camera? And what about lg apps? I mean calendar, smart notice, quick remote. Its important for me.
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
I you don't care about camera quality: CM13 all the way. But if you care, forget CM13. Camera it's just horrible. Photos with horrible quality, not so many options, strange ratio, etc.
I've tried CM13 one day after use stock MM for almost a month (the seven version) and returned to stock because camera.
I completely agree. CM 13 is an amazing project but I think that is a little bit unfair put a young project devolped by a guy or two VS the stock one that starts from completely different conditions.
At this stage of development there is no contest simply because CM 13 has a lot of bugs and no real optimizations focused on G4 only.
All that said what I hope is to have in the future someone that works on a custom kernel cause what I see in the past is that custom ROM works perfectly only on Nexus devices but custom kernel could really improve stock experience in terms of fluidity and battery life without losing features that comes only with stock ROM (e.g. camera or dual window).
I would have 5.1 or Android 6.0 over CM 13 any day. I use quick circle case so dont want to lose awesome feature to give up
