[Q] Uploading old phone messages/contacts etc with MyPhoneExplorer - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Before I bought the Z1C I had the Sony Ericsson K750i for 9 years -- that phone has still a sweet spot in my heart. Great phone for the time.
I succeeded in uploading all data on the K750i to my PC using MyPhoneExplorer (which also installed BlockAndSurf Adware so beware :-/)
Unfortunately I am unable to connect the Z1c with MyPhoneExplorer using USB -- It says that there is no device connected to USB.
Is there anyone who succesfully connected Z1c with MyPhoneExplorer?
I am also interested in other ways to transfer as much data as possible from my old K750i to my new Z1c... text messages are the most important, followed by calendar data, tasks and contacts.
regards
Dries

did you try with this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client

No I did not! I installed the app and it complained that USB Debugging must be on.
After some googling I found that the USB debugging is a developer option which are hidden in KitKat but can be activated by tapping Build Number 7 times (under About Phone).
After I did that, windows automatically detected the phone and installed the ADB device driver and was able to connect the Z1 Compact with MyPhoneExplorer.
Unfortunately, it is still not clear for me how I can upload the messages, contacts etc from my K750i to my Z1 compact: when I connect, MyPhoneExplorer asks to create a new new user for the identified phone. So I have two "users" now in MyPhoneExplorer but I do not see how I can move the messages and contacts from the K750i user to the Z1 compact user...

Ok I managed to transfer my contacts and messages by
1) make a backup of my new phone.
2) make a backup of my old phone.
3) restore the backup of my old phone on my new phone restricted to contacts and messages
This resulted in a complete replacement of the contacts of my new phone by the contacts of my old phone
4) Move all messages to archive on PC
5) restore backup of my new phone
Result is that I have all the contacts and messages of both my old phone and new phone on my new phone.
Unfortunately, the date and time of the messages of my old phone is the date of the transfer from pc to phone... i.e. today at 18:50
Does anyone know a method to change the date and time of a text message?

3 Simple Questions - Please Help!

1. I know I can import Contact information from SIM card to device, but is there any way I can do the reverse since over time contacts changes?
(I have a back-up phone which is nothing more then just a plain ole' Samsung - so if ever I need to switch from my BA device to the phone I have an updated phone book on my SIM card)
2. Recently the battery came off my phone for a few short seconds while in a purse. Upon putting it back on I realized the phone did a hard reset! (I don't know why either!) The purse was practically empty (two wallets and receipts) and had nothing in it that could have started the reset. When I got home and tried to sync, ActiveSync coudln't recognize the phone and wanted to start a new partnership. Anything I can do in the future to prevent this from occuring again - Activesync not recognizing the phone?? I had to delete the partership the computer and start over.
3. In Outlook I have two Contacts list (1 personal and 1 business). I would like to keep them seperate but it seems like Activesync will only sync one contact list at a time. I know I can assign categories and sort them but life is easier keeping them seperate. Any way to do this or a program that wil do this?
THANKS!!!
BUMP!!!
Sorry to do this but some one out there can answer at least one of these questions right???
THANKS!

I have an MDA compact (Magician), and there I can simply mark the contacts I want to copy to the SIM in my list of contacts, then tap-n-hold and select "Save to SIM".

Yes. Make sure that you regularily do backups using Active Sync. Then, next time a hard reset happens, connect your PocketPC to the PC and choose Guest Partnership. Now, just go to Extras - Save/Restore in Active Sync, and restore a backup. After the restore completed, disconnect the PocketPC, soft-reset it, then re-connect. It will now simply use your old partnership.

I do not know of any way to do that. Maybe someone else does - if yes, I would also be very interested!
Cheers

First, yes, you can have 2 separate contact lists in Outlook. Just create new folder "that will contain contacts" or something to that effect.
Next, download the MS add-on that will let you sync 2 lists. Maybe part of the powertoys or something like that. Definitely out there. Seen it.
Outlook Add In
Thanks....Tadzio!!! Your info was a real big help!!
Has any one heard or found this Outlook add in? I searched all over Microsoft's website and couldn't find it???
What is a power toy??
Thanks!

ActiveSync/Outlook and issues

Hope somone can help me with this:
I've currently got 1 HTC Touch HD (standard Orange ROM), roughly 400 contacts and a lot of calendar/notes/tasks etc, and 2 laptops (both WinXP).
1 Laptop was previously used as the ActiveSync partner for the Touch HD - no problems, I was using ActiveSync merely to back up all my calendar/task/notes/contact entries on the phone - I didn't use Outlook (where the PIM data was copied to) for anything.
I now want to transfer my "backing up" to the 2nd laptop and this is where I'm running into problems. I cannot seem to setup ActiveSync to understand that it is to copy information into the 2nd laptop. I cannot turn on the "contacts" checkbox at all (it's greyed out) for the 2nd "desktop" (ActiveSync's terms), and it won't Sync any of the other items that are checked (calendar/task/notes) - it tells I've logged into Outlook in the wrong "profile" (whatever that is*)
If I try to remove the 1st laptop ActiveSync profile, or uncheck the contacts checkbox, I get a warning error that this will REMOVE all contacts on my Pocket PC - something that I REALLY do NOT want to do!
I found the "pim.vol" file in the root directory of the Touch HD, which I thought was an uptodate copy of all PIM information - but it isn't - somehow in checking that, or messing about with all the Outlook and Active Sync stuff, I've lost "some" information - a couple of repeating tasks have lost information from the associated "notes", and I deliberately deleted a couple of contacts (no loss) to see if the "pim.vol" was indeed a copy of the information - and in copying "pim.vol" back from the storage card those contacts haven't returned.
What am I missing? (apart from a Polaris hardware locked onto the Redmond campus)
Can someone help me here - I'm going to be losing laptop 1 to my daughter soon (so will have to strip all personal info off it), and I really need somewhere to backup my Pocket PC PIM data. (I can't afford to buy SPB Backup (I would prefer to backup the data to a seperate device anyway) - yes I know it's not much - but I can barely afford to pay the Panther45 bill at present - everything is getting more expensive, and wages are static, and I need to eat! )
* secondary rant - why can't Outlook split itself over different WinXP user accounts?? is it just me, or is this a major failing??

Why don't you try PPC PIMbackup 2.8 (http://www.dotfred.net/default.htm) ? It's free
ok - this gets weirder...
My Work pc is a Vista machine with "Windows Mobile Device Center" on it - I have NOT setup any relationship between this Pc and the Touch HD, and (up until now) I've been able to connect the two, and be able to access the ROM on the Touch HD via the windows explorer UI - it's handy for copying CABS and other files down - but there's no Sync relationship.
NOW this connection just fails utterly, and ActiveSync on the phone won't even run!
has anyone any idea what's going on here?? is it hard reboot time??
Ktsak - cheers - will check that out.
ok - after failing to connection to the Vista machine I did a soft-reset, and now my PIM data has TOTALLY disappeared!!
Diary and Contacts GONE, and TouchFlo will NOT boot!!
What the **** is going on here??? (please pardon the term, but I'm getting very near to lauching this thing through a window. I RELY on the diary on the Touch HD, now Microsoft have destroyed it!! )
ok - getting close to launching this thing now.
I've done a soft reboot and lost EVERYTHING in the PIM. Contacts and Calendar are EMPTY.
I also have some odd things going on with my connection - I'm in a 3g available area and (apparantly) getting no reception - so something has happened to the connection as well.
Any ideas????

[Q] Help!

Hi,
I fixing my girlfriends LCD on her One X. Long story short we report lost and got a new one from att.
I have to remove the contacts from her old phone and place them on her gmail account but she didn't enable usb debugging.
Plus shes four hours away...
How do I connect the phone to the computer without being able to see the screen and fix the security settings?
let me see if i'm reading this correctly...
your girlfriend's screen is broken and you managed to blag a new phone out of it and now you want to transfer her gmail contacts to the new phone..?
if so, then all she has to do is log in to her google account on the new phone and it will automatically transfer (sync) all her contacts..
(btw.. usb debugging has nothing to do with the security of the phone)

[Q] How do i migrate from old phone to new phone?

Hi All!
Happy Christmas and merry new year to you guys!
I re-post this, because i apparently asked it first wrongly on a ROM-thread..
I wanted to check from you if anyone has any guide/tool that I should use when moving all olad apps from an old phone to a new phone. I will install Gin2Kitcat on the new phone, and many apps in my old phone save their data in the phone's memory, so they will not be transferred to the new phone by just moving the SD-card and re-installing the apps.
Is there anything else (than sms and callogs) that I should remember to backup before moving data to a new phone (in my case to a brand new Xperia Pro instead of my old over 2 years old Xperia Pro! )
For apps, you will need root. And Titanium Backup is the best option there.
Contacts - use the built-in contacts app to back them up.
Messages, Calendar, Call Log - personally using Mobile Backup 2 app.
You can use Titanium Backup to backup messages, call log, browser bookmarks and Wi-Fi settings as well. Contacts can be synchronised with your Google account so you don't need to backup. Just in case, you can also backup your contacts to the SIM card or SD card if I can remember correctly.

Where's the app to transfer data?

I just got my Mi 10 t pro after buying it in the singles day sales. I can't for the life of me find the app that I would use to transfer data (contacts, sms, photos at a push). I'm upgrading from an HTC U11. Googling for an answer suggests MiMover which isn't on the Xiaomi and can't be found in the Play store (from UK). ShareMe on the Mi 10 t pro has a "Mi Mover" icon inside it, but when I install Xiaomi ShareMe on the HTC, the MiMover icon isn't there.
Google backup doesn't work for me on the HTC (it shows "waiting to backup" which is possibly because the phone is encrypted).
Exporting my contacts on the HTC gave me a vef file which the Xiaomi doesn't recognise. Exporting my sms gave me an .hbk file which the xiaomi doesn't recognise.
Any clues / pointers would be welcome.
Thanks, PT
Answering my own question here:
The .vef file exported from my HTC is an encrypted vcf file. I was able to re-export this as a vcf and trasfer the file to the Xiaomi separately.
I then used SMS backup and recover to tranfer across sms and call logs.
I'm still shocked that I couldn't find / figure out the Xiaomi app to get this job done.
PT
Google backup does a really good job, most of the time. So there's really no need for a separate app. I don't know why your u11 didn't backup, but encryption isn't it, because 99% of phones today have encryption in system itself...
Sorry for the delayed reply. If you want to back up data on your Android phone to the computer easily, my suggestion is Coolmuster Android Backup Manager. Its free backup function can help us back up data like contacts, text messages, call logs, videos, music, photos, apps, ebooks from your Android phone to the computer via USB cable connecting easily. If you still has such problem, please try it. And hope it will work well on your phone.
